Created a Cardboard profile for Gear VR and Note 5. - Samsung Gear VR

Been playing around with this a lil bit today, I think I have it pretty close...
These is a cardboard viewer parameter you have to scan when cardboard asks you for the viewer. This will also with with the note 4 +/- a mm or 2.
Don't forget to activate dev mode on gear vr service to reduce the flickering. I have experienced some drifting. mostly on 360 Youtube videos in 1440p and am working to reduce that.

Sweet. I'll try this out on my Note 5 on my lunch break today

I'm using a Note 4 with a Freefly VR and your setup is the best I've seen so far, but a tiny bit off... can you post the values so I can tweak it? Or is there a way to tell from your QR code? Good work

Yeah man, no worries. Here is a link to the settings page. You can modify it as you wish. As mentioned, this works for Note 5 on Retail Gear VR, it should be more or less the same for Note 4, maybe with a few tweaks since the Note 4 is not officially supported by Gear VR Retail. BTW, what version of the Gear VR you're using?
http://google.com/cardboard/cfg?p=C...CAABIQgAASEIAAEhCWAA146UbPToIPQpXPj0KVz5QAGAD
If the link doesnt work, here are the numbers:
Screen to lens: 41mm
Inter-lens: 60mm
Screen vertical alignement: bottom
Tray to lens center distance: 38mm
Distortion coefficients (k1 & k2): 0.21
the rest you lease to 50 degrees

Honestly I'm using a Freefly VR because Innovator Gear VR is pretty expensive/rare in Canada. First time using VR so I'm not sure if my eyes are weird or what but everything is fairly blurry, though your configuration helped a great deal despite being for a different headset and phone. I've tried a number of custom configurations specifically for the Freefly VR and Note 4, and out of desperation I tried yours, lucky for me.. Now time to poke blindly at the settings until it suits me better, aha.
Edit: Simple tweak of 41mm to 40mm made it much better for me... the center of my vision is a bit blurry though, but still miles ahead of where I was
Edit 2: The peripherals of my vision are much less blurry than the center (in VR)... not sure why...

I got a few others that pm'd me saying this worked on a note 4, s6 and edge as well. My only issue is Cardboard doesn't make good use of head tracking so the videos are very jittery unless my head is perfectly still.

Thanks for posting this qr code profile works very well for me with note 5 and gear vr

Don't wish, make it happen. It's not difficult at all, plus the Note 5 is basically a flat S6 edge + . Take my settings, try them, and tweak them.

Gear VR S6 Edge+ Plus viewer profile for Google Cardboard
For S6 Edge+ Plus Try this profile (S6 Edge+ Plus & Gear VR Consumer Edition)
The settings are :
Indirect Touch
41
60
Center
0.20
0.20
Advanced options left as it is except for "Viewer contains some ........" enabled.
Try on your S6 Edge+ and please update us.

Does this profile work for apps in full screen juste just with a splite screen ?

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 (G930F).
I have tried to use the profile generator (https://www.google.com/get/cardboard/viewerprofilegenerator/) but when displaing the web (https://goo.gl/P2tMlz) on my phone in full screen I only see a black screen.
Have anyone the profile QR?
Could anyone share it or generate it?
Any idea about the black screen and how to generate myself the profile?
Thanks and best regards

This seems to be for the Galaxy Note 4, not for the Galaxy S7.
I need it for the galaxy S7 (G930F).
Anyone could make and share it?

I need this for the s7 edge as well

[Q] Should the next Note have a 6"-inch screen?

Screen type, size and resolution seem to be the crucial discerning factor for mobile phones. the Note 2 stepped up its size, and was an even bigger success than the Note 1. So should the next Note step up to a 6-inch screen ?
+1 Yes or -1 No?

It should be pocket size.

Yes, but only if the phone size stays the same
Well only if it has flexible screen because the galaxy S IV its coming 5" flexible super Amoled HD 440 ppi and I think that it's pretty hard to beat that since where are you gonna put the Spen with a flexible screen so I guess my next device its gonna be SIV
Tapatalking on my n7000
No please, if i want a bigger screened note i'll buy a 7".
Yes because being that much bigger won't matter much to me at all. This phone fits in my pocket with room to spare let's fill it up

If it has no bezel at all, then yeah, I might just be able to use it with one hand. which is where my limit lies.

This might actually work. Starting out with the Note 2 and sacrificing the SAMSUNG logo at top, and making the bottom homescreen button much narrower.
Edit: Come to think of it. It is not actually a (secret) 4-way navigation button, right? I actually can't tell from the feel of it....

I took a ruler across my Notes screen and 6 inches of screen will be a tight fit.
If the physical button is made into capacitive doesn't count as that's not part of the screen.
I think the Current Note/Note 2 should not get any bigger in total physical size as that would go too much into tablet territory.
A 6 inch screen in my opinion would be the absolute max I would like to see this phone go to. Any bigger and I wont buy it.
I dont mind if the machine keep the same size as 3.2 x 5.8 inch, and screen is 6 inch, it should be able to fit the 6 inch in if it is kind of frameless.
It is possible.
But seems better if keep the screen as 5.3 inch size, and decrease the overall of the machine size to something like GS3.

Here are a few photos to get an idea of a 6-inch phone. In fact, on second thought, a surface-like touch-keyboard should be built into the cover.
Screens are taken from
here
Actually I do believe a 6-inch Samsung phone will be coming by the end of 2013. But this is pure speculation based on the rate at which Samsung churns out phone-models. It is harder for Samsung to make a 6" phone, b/c big high quality, high res screens are more complicated to make and because they break easier. Samsung has unprecedented brand value, and as such they fare better making no product (i.e. devices which never see the public eye) rather than a disastrous product with lots of bad press.
Would I want one? Perhaps, after I have watched many youtube videos and read reviews with real-life photos.
Rumor: 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 3 tipped for 2013
Samsung‘s stylus-enabled “phablets” are set to get even bigger, sources in South Korea claim, with the Galaxy Note III tipped to have a whopping 6.3-inch display when it arrives in 2013.....

Amazing
But I guess its toooooooo big for a phone!
I remember when NOTE was released and I wondered if I should really buy it. I went to the store, checked it out and felt comfortable with it for daily use coz I could put it in my pocket and still use it as a 'phone'. BUT 6.3" I dunno! Maybe that's the end of the line for me!
LOL samsung should be crazy to put 6"+ screen PHONE unless its border-less with no keys, just whole screen .. yeah that would be cool :good:
-1 Samsung should focus more on productivity and entertainment for the next generation of the note. Even more processing power, more ram for another level of multitasking, more focus on the camera and photography features(which I doubt will happen because of the galaxy camera). The s pen of the note 2 was greatly improved upon but I feel that even more improvements can be add to the s pen. If they do decide to enlarge the screen, 5.7 should be the MAX!

From a psychological perspective the screen specs just have to have at least a 6 in them. Few would upgrade otherwise. Note = Screen. Case in point: apples product line and the journalistic endnotes they receive
I am pretty convinced that Sammy will go the way of virtual Android Homebutton in their new Note. Hate it or love it. And it will be pretty soon: Q2/Q3 2013

Why would you even contemplate purchasing old techno? The gear 2 should prove a 'better' allroud experience IF IF IF the price is right. The Gear one was overpriced.
Ryland
None are worth 300. I got the Gear at 30% off and thats about the price point it needs to be.
Nothing I saw today would lead me to want either of the new gears knowing they run Tizen and how they goofed the Gear launch software. Id say the best bet would be the Gear fit but only in the 149 range.
FWIW the camera on the Gear has been priceless. So many moments that it is more useful than pulling out your phone unlocking and waiting for camera to load.

I agree the camera on the gear is great! With my 1 year old daughter I use it all the time to capture her random moments she has! :good: And no matter what they do with the gear 2 it still will not be as open at the gg1 with full android.
price for the gear watch in my country i can get a bnew at $150 USD. In fact, someone already offered to me tonight. selling at a huge discounted price since he got it as a free bundled with the Note Pro. gear 2 is supposed to run tizen, and this is my biggest worry as of now. i'm not going to say goodbye to my android apps.

it's still the best smartwatch on the market.

i actually am not sure the G2 will be as easy to use but i catch all the shots of the kids i use to miss when i would have to pull out my phone from pocket and fire up the camera.
My only concern is whether samsung will provide support and develop new apps for the old gear now? It's not like they seemed to put a lot of effort developing apps for it in the first place! But even in its current form it ticks most of the boxes for me and battery life is pretty decent.
Plus the camera is actually useful and pretty decent in good light.

Apparently the original Gear is getting updated to Tizen too: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/02/25/galaxy-gear-update-to-tizen/
Love my Galaxy Gear from day one! Use all day, battery isnt that bad for me go easy 2 days! If Tizen means more battery life and same funcions on the watch cool! The only thing that i like more in Gear 2 its dark bezel on black model and lack of the volcano camera on the Galaxy Gear. By the way the camera at Galaxy Gear is actualy prety good... and allways one "the hand" when is need I only use my Note 3 to take important landscape pictures and things like that!
Another thing be able to make phone call with a watch its perfect when driven... i use all the time and dont have to take hands from the wheel
I don't see a reason to move to the GG2. I even see more reason to stay, we got android! Samsung would have to do a hell of a job with tizen for me to run to GG2 or even update to tizen os (like its been speculated)
The GG1 will still have its place and based on the refinements of the Gear2 like water resistance, the G2 will continue the migration of early tech. adapters.
I have a feeling that the real breakout success will be the Samsung Fit. It will likely be stregically priced to capture the segment of the market that are reluctant to tech. but interested in health. Desciding to focus on a limited, but capable level of features, that have demonstrated merit, and still staying reasonable priced, will be a big game changer; Especially in this strange segment of the tech. market where the manufacturer arbitrarily "creates solutions to problems that don't really exist in reality".

Performance - the best QHD resolution phone I tested so far. Smoothness 95% as they is still slightly 3 seconds delay opening recent apps, the briefing add on is not well done especially the open effect, it is not pull out but jump out. Hmm... sometimes they is still slightly jittering when minimise apps and also during scrolling 2nd apps under multi window.
Real Camera - extremely awesome, I believe the best so far in day light, night shoot wise second best. Today later will do some comparison with iPhone 6 plus. The taken time is extremely fast, no single delay event at night.
Front camera - great for selfie, bright and clear. The wide selfie wise is not as easier to use as promote.
Screen quality - I give 95% as well. If you dimmer down the screen then you will notice they is slightly color shift at bottom part at white background. It is more easier to see the wave on bottom end when you put the phone horizontally and look closer to eye. I check others demo set at Samsung store and all same. Please don't purposely check it if you never seen it. But this is by far much much better than my previous Note 3 AMOLED screen. Beside this, the screen is absolutely awesome! The best AMOLED screen I ever seen and use.
QHD resolution - is this gimmick? Hardly to said, seriously I can't spot any differences compare with FHD. Oops! It is not like HD to FHD that kind of big differences wow!
Battery Life - surprisingly great! At least the SOT is better than Note 3.
Touchwiz UI - the best ever by Samsung. Flat nice design and finally can put folder inside apps drawer everywhere back not like initial release in S5 UI which can't. They is two draw back compare with S5. Why Samsung remove the color selection for folder! Also the new briefing is badly implement compare with S5 one. Beside this please implement way for disable or moving to bottom the S Finder and Quick Connect at notification, it is annoying as sometimes I do accidentally click it when clicking the clear button.
Samsung widget - I love all the Samsung widget, this time all well done with flat look semi transparency especially the main clock weather widget.
Bloatware - I don't find any extra Bloatware this time. Those keep complaining Samsung is bloat shall really go check it out before judge. Also if you use China phone especially Xiaomi then you will know what is really call bloat.
Loud Speaker - far louder and better than Note 3 but put back at real is really a big wrong decision. Why oh why you move from previous great bottom location to real. Now I truly miss my HTC One M8 awesome stereo loud speaker.
IN OVERALL I GIVE SCORES OF 95%.
Some random shoot.
Here some night shoot. All auto mode. I am impress with the result.
More photos coming soon.
Note 4 (wide) vs iPhone 6+ (square) Part 01
- all auto mode with HDR Off.
Note 4 (wide) vs iPhone 6+ (square) Part 02
- all auto mode with HDR Off.

I wonder if there's a way to activate the apps without the Gear vr. Maybe connecting it to the pc and running a application. I'll have to check out there development forum. That way we could find a way to run it on other headsets.

A short book could be written answering those questions. A better question would be what brought you to post in this thread?
As for useful? Not right now. It's an entertainment device. Is a gameboy useful? But it has a (limited) purpose. Only you can decide if it is something you want or not

I came to this thread to learn more about this device and what it would be used for. I'm not a gamer, which makes my questions valid.

@segura.org you asked "Is a Gameboy useful?" Some people would say yes, some would say no. The key here is threads like these are here to provide information and help people learn about devices and make informed decisions to purchase.

The Gear VR is the best available mobile VR experience you can get at the moment, which you can actually call a proper VR experience which surpasses the Oculus Rift DK1 and rivals even the DK2 in some regards but those Rifts are wired and need a powerful PC to work properly.
As for describing a VR experience that you will have to probably experience for yourself.

Thanks for the response. I've never used any VR systems and just trying to gain some insight on what it's used for.

VR can be used to watch 360° Photos, 360° Videos, 360° 3D Videos and Games. It can give you the impression of not only watching something from far away like on a TV but as if you were there. Depending on the quality of the content of course.

That's very interesting. Since I'm not a gamer, I wouldn't have thought about those things at all.

For me it's the killer application to be able to watch movies on a huge virtual cinema screen (bigger than i would ever be able to buy a TV or could put in my flat) when i'm on the couch, in bed, on the toilet , in a hotel, on a plane, ect.

The videos can't show you how big the screens really are when seeing them through the Gear VR.

Sprint Note 4 Compatibility?
Are there any super smart folks who know how to get this to work on the Sprint Note 4?
segura.org said:
This will currently only works with the AT&T Note 4. The latest update from AT&T seems to include support for the Gear VR. Read about the update at http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-att/general/att-ota-downloading-t2960247
After the update I needed to install QuickShortcutMaker from the Google Play Store (Thanks lawalty!)
From within the QuickShortcutMaker App, under Activities I selected VRSetupWizardStub, then pressed Try

Got a cool blue Gear VR Welcome and the install

Photo note convert image to edit not working (s note)

I had the galaxy note 4 and used the photo note and then converted to editable lines in s note. But now in note 5 there is no image conversion option in rows. Someone is going through it too?

Yes friend.

I have already installed all the extensions the problem is that the function convert to edit photo does not work it just takes a picture and glue. It's the same function insert camera image. This is not photo note. It does not make a school whiteboard in lines of s note. Do you understand now
I got it the first time I replied to your post ! So strange it doesn't work (didn't try it myself)...Then your best shot is "Optical Reader" app from Sammy..

exactly.
this feature has been removed! I went to a store to see a NOTE5 and could not use the "CONVERT TO EDIT" the note 4. I'm using the rom erobot port 11 note 5 and also has this function. It would be great if the dev could include this user function in rom there would be best!!
I too am missing the convert to edit on my Note 5. Out of all the features, this is the one I actually used and Samsung removed it from the Note 5 software.
Too bad.
I wish I had seen this before I spent over an hour on a call with Samsung trying to figure this out. Convert to text is definitly missing, so all you end up with is the ability to slice the image into sections of smaller images. Very disappointing.
I bought the note 5 only because the camera set + photo note. If all we open a complaint with Samsung we can force them to fix functionality.

Hi.
it is easier to ask a developer of xda here to create a solution. using the rom note 4 believe is possible.
Very frustrating and disappointing. Worked so well on ythe Note 4, used it at work all the time for snapping whiteboards. Note 5 less than useful. photo note......not really. Should have renamed it to photo chop. The note functionality is gone.
I found that the app Office Lens works like the former version of photo note. It creates editable text after using it to take a picture.
Samsung replied my email
Dear Jorge,
Greetings from S Note! We sincerely apologize for the delay in reply.
With every new version of S Note new features are added while modifying and removing some features.
With Note 5, Photo note feature has been modified to exclude the text conversion.
Photo note will only allow to select particular portions in the picture and insert in S Note. Text present in pictures can not be converted to editable lines in S Note.
But as we said earlier with every new version features are added, modified and removed. Text conversion feature in photo note may be introduced again in future versions of S Note.
We can not confirm if this will really happen but there is always a possibility.
Hope this answers your query well.
Thank you for keeping with us. We really appreciate your feedback and suggestions.
We would love to hear more from you regarding your complaints, queries and suggestions to help us improve your experience with S Note.
Best Regards,
S Note Development team

Missing this feature as well!!
Hi, honestly I'm not trying to hijack this thread. Just need some clarification.
Is the Photo Note app the same app that was on the old Note 2's and Note 3's where you can take a picture and makes notes on the (virtual) back of the photo? I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge now and that would be one of my most desired features! Is Samsung NOT putting it on other phones because there is no S-Pen? If it does have the same functionality, is there any way to get this Photo Note apk so I could use it on my S7E? Thanks in advance!
