I bought the LCD-midframe assembly and the back cover from a seemingly large supplier on eBay. After a lot of waiting my package finally arrived, only to find that the back cover has a smudged font, different construction and the logo covered with tape (which to me has been a telltale sign of a fake item if the photos don't show the OEM logo), the glass on both the screen and cover have a different 'give'. However now I'm not entirely sure it isn't fake, maybe there's some variation depending on manufacturing date or something else along those lines.
I hope someone with more experience can help me determine if I got genuine parts.

I've never seen this, I guess if the parts work, the only thing missing is the Sony logo.

The logo is there, behind some tape, but I've seen a lot of fake items that do that, usually for customs reasons. I don't know what to think though. The seller insists it's OEM. I did some research and found that some companies just don't supply repair parts, so companies like this one have to source the correct 'sub-parts' and assemble them or maybe even manufacture their own pieces if they are impossible to get, and if, for example, the LCD/Digitizer is original, they label the whole assembly as original.
Hi, hard to say from pictures. In my firm we are ordering both type of parts original and spare. Until this day I never saw original part with covered Sony logo. All parts with covered logo are spare but to
soothe You I can tell that spare parts for Sony are good quality (most of time) however if it's not original watch for back cover it's more fragile than original. Every time I'm disassembling Z3c I never wasting time to heat up but when spare back cover wont be heat up to peel it of it breaks just after You bend it.
Anyway most of my client don't see any difference between spare and original Sony parts so it's not so bad. Of course every time I'm giving them choice but most of the time people prefers cheaper one.

Yeah I suspected that. I ended up installing it as I needed my phone up and running and wasn't as sure that the part wasn't original after reading some articles on the Internet.
Let me tell you, it was a pain in the ass, it didn't come with the button gaskets, magnetic port, headphone jack or speakers. To make matters worse when I was trying to pry those parts from my original phone I broke both speakers, the flex to the light sensor and the magnetic port. Man that **** is welded tight!
Anyway, I think I now have another point to my favor; the glue of the screen is poor, so much that after installing the "rest“ of the phone it now has a slit on the side of the usb port where light escapes, not to mention that the screen itself bleeds from all the sides outward more than an extra in a Tarantino movie, you can even see a faint glow around the buttons!
I think I'll follow through the eBay case I opened. I hope I get (at least some of) my money back so I can buy a proper replacement.
What do you guys think?
Man, none of this would've happened if Sony would've repaired my phone... ****ing dumb ass policy of not repairing imported devices, even for a fee.
I love this device, but this kind of crap makes me want to go back to Samsung.
If it doesn't has parts You mentioned it's not original part. Original part MUST have both speakers, magnetic port, headphone port and light sensor and doesn't have both caps for sd and sim card and plastic cover around magnetic port.

I have been reading about replacement parts and z3c disassembling and putting it back together as I have a problem with screen peeling off on the left side. It did not raise to the point where light escapes, but it is noticeable upon pressing it. I think your parts are ok, but it's hard to tell it based on these pictures, however, on almost all replacement parts the glue for the screen is very weak, so the usual suggestion is to use stronger one, like buying double sided 3m tape and cutting it to the exact shape, or using "Sugru". I have read somewhere here on xda that people have successfully glued screen to the frame without any lifting and peeling off using aftermarket double sided tapes.

I have a spare screen adhesive, I'll think about reapplying it once I have the rest of the parts (or a new screen assembly) in my hands. However they are proving quite hard to find (at least for a fair price), especially the magnetic port.
And sorry about the pictures, surely you guessed that they are taken with an older phone.

i think a black backcover is no problem. but if you need a red/orange one,
the only one that has the same color is the original one (2nd picture, left one, check the camera cut out)
the fake orange backcover is more red.
Ok, so I got refunded by eBay, which fortunately makes the whole process easier. Now I'm looking for a respectable place to buy these parts. I looked into replacebase.co.uk and witrigs.com
ReplaceBase has stock, but the parts look exactly the same as the one I've got, and it doesn't mention that the parts are original.
Witrigs is out of stock, but the LCD assembly has the missing parts (speakers, light sensor, etc.) and it says it's OEM, however, their photos lack the Sony logo and it's making me nervous.
Is there any other place you guys would recommend? Have you bought from Witrigs?
P.S. I guess if reviving this thread doesn't get me enough responses I'll start a new one.

Yikes, that is certainly expensive. Although I may see it as a last resort.
125$ for front, 25$ back and almost 50$ for shipping. Maybe there is some cheaper forms of shipping but I would need to read about safety and customs charges.

Judging by the pics both fascias seem identical. Although don't know why this big pricing difference. Maybe the first auction is for a replica housing? Don't have large pics as the second auction so we can tell for sure.

Received the housings yesterday.
They're certainly not OEM (maybe the backcover is, the rest not). The outside looks quite nice finished, the set is quite complete (with some tools for the fitting). From the two sets I ordered, one has a large gluestain on the top part of the housing (below the LCD). This gluestain damaged the paint. So I decided to start transferring the phone in the other housing.
After dissecting the phone I started with the assembly of the screen part. The speaker fitted not quite nice, so took some feddling to get mounted. At last it fitted (the print on top of the speaker fitted just). Closing the top part of the housing was a mess. The snap-locks didn't snap (partly) and on one side the housing did not flush fit. The (original) screws did not fit in the thread bushings.... With some fiddling I sort of managed to fit them. Then on with the bottom part. The new chrome buttons do not fit in the new chrome housing part.......
This is were I give up for yesterday. I think I'm going to rebuild the old housing en give up on the new one....
So.....
Decide for yourself if it's worth the trouble.... The housing looks quit neat (not as good as OEM though) but the fitment process is quite troublesome. Delivery was fast and the package is complete (including self-adhesive rubber for screen and speaker fitment). I will get in touch with the guy from Ebay with my findings.... Maybe I'm doing something wrong....
Will post some pictures tomorrow or something....

OK guys....
I managed to revive the Xperia tonight.... It has become a hybrid with the metal (original) front and black backside. The middle part is also left original. So the only part I ended up exchanging has been the back cover.
First of all; kudo's to HTC for making the Xperia somewhat sturdy (at least the inside is...). The amount of mechanical havoc tha has been put through the innards of the phone are substantial... And still everything functions!!
After the initial assembly attempt a few weeks ago, I was sure that I had wrecked my phone trying to assemble it with the new housing. Some parts did not fit really well, and the (original) screws did not quite fit the (new) threaded bushings. Halfway through the assembly process I ran into the new chrome buttons not fitting in the new chrome middle part and I gave up on assembly for the time being. After recharging myself for a couple of weeks I forced myself to take up the task of finishing the assembly of the phone tonight...
First I had to disassemble the phone (I was halfway assembling it...) again. I decided to use the original front (had some scratch damage and a very small crack) to surpass the not-fitting thread bushings in the new part. This was a problem... One of the screws had settled in the not-fitting thread bushing and decided to not unscrew, but turn the bushing in the plastic instead. After trying careful and not damaging anything for some time I decided it was time for the hobby knife and screwdriver (as crowbar...). The new front cover did not survive this operation. The screw and the innards of the phone did however!! Reassembly using the old front cover was quite easy, as was reassembly of the back using the original middle part. In the new back part was the thread bushing missing for fixation of the speaker... I used the not-fitting bushing from the front cover as bushing for the speaker fixation. Off course after I made the bushing fitting by forcing the screw in the bushing using a sturdy screwdriver and a set of pliers. This bushing was hammered (carefully...) into the location where the bushing should have been.... This sort of worked. The new back cover does not fit as neat into the original middle part as the original back cover, but it did fit (with some force). The plastic lip that fixes the SIM card was a bit to long, so I had to cut of 0,5mm to make it fit the SIM card. And last but not least only one of the two new battery covers was able to get a grip on the phone...
Then came the thrilling moment to switch on the phone.... Everything worked as if nothing had happened!! So end good all good; I have a phone that looks quite neat (part brushed metal - part black) and functions.
If it was worth the hassle... I doubt it... When you've got a phone that is in pieces and you want spare parts to repair it (as cheap as possible and you like some hobbying) then go ahead and buy this housing. If you want a phone that looks as good as new (and you don't want to risk a heart attack or nervous break down) then I guess you're better off leaving this housing as it is.... For a phone that's worth a few hundred bucks I think this housing is not OK. For a scrapheap phone that needs revitalisation for a small amount of money than it's OK.... If I had to do it all again I think I would have gone for an OEM housing.... After all, I'm happy that my phone functions again so I can leave the TYTN at home. I was to stubborn to buy another housing...
This has become quite a story, hope it will be of any help to somebody. Now I must see if I can post some images....

Amazingly it must be good quality because there are a only a couple of scratches on the front and some damage on the rubber around where the
stylus is, but otherwise everything works and is functional.
What this experience did, was got me lookin for spare parts in case I'd

and I just now found this post. Needless to say, I'm damn scared that I've
wasted the money. You tried to fit the black parts on a silver X1, and mine is black,
so I'm crossing my fingers that for some unknown odd fantastical reason, it fits better on the black version. Also may ask whether your model is an x1i or x1a?
I'm guessing b/c its silver its an x1i but u can nvr be to sure. As for me, mine is

I've got a X1i, as you had already guessed.... The mixing of the parts is also a bit of a risk.... The chrome middle part (original) has suffered some damages during my disassembly actions to start with... And has developed some new cracks in the use as a hybrid. Maybe I've overtightened some screws, or maybe the bottom part does not fit well enough so it develops to much tension I don't know...
I've decided to use the X1 till it dies, and to buy something else (no slide keyboard) a little bit more sturdy when it does. I am not going to do any repairwork on it. The design is simply flawed, I have had it repaired at SE once, when it came back it was broken again within two months. These stories can be found al over the internet, so I am not going to repair it again (just to get it broken again). I am not careful enough for a phone like this (however, my colleague also has a X1 that's broken and he is very careful...) I guess.

Before i dropped my x1 for the first time. There was some kind of defect in the silver middle part. At first it was a slight crack so i thought nothing of it, until a piece fell right out of it. Until now i've never needed to go through the process
of getting something fixed and was my experience painful. I got mine through a carrier (Rogers) so I called them on the phone. I was on hold forever, and when I finally got through they told me I had to go to a rogers store to have someone
personally take a look at it.
I got to the store, got on their phone, and was on hold for 20 minutes. When I got through they told me they would connect me to a specific department.
Another 20 minute wait.
I got through and then gave the phone to a rogers employee there. He confirmed that it should be a defect as there were no signs of dropping it and then HE waited 20 minutes while the guy on the line called sony.
I waited all that time to find out that I cannot get it replaced through my carrier but had to go through sony themselves.
I looked up some stories of experiences with SE's services and found that most (if not all) of the time they replace your x1 with a refurbished one, and I wasn't about to trade a perfectly brand new one with a minor ding in it, for
one that could be potentially scratched up and badly treated.
Now that I've dropped it though I fear that whether the defect gets worse or not I cannot get Sony's warranty on it. However, after what you've just told me I don't think I want to. Here's to hoping that i won't have to do x1

So i picked up a Nexus S i9020T for a price that was steal in any working condition. The screen on it is great, no scratches and I've read the thread regarding the battery door and I'm going to order the rear door from Samsung under a warranty replacement for $16.
That leaves me with the front housing ring around the screen... I see that iFixit's tear down shows them using a heat gun at that step. Is the display connected to the front housing ring with adhesive? For showing a picture of using a heat gun they were mum on exactly what it was needed to pull apart. If it is the ring connecting to the screen, will I lose all adhesive to the old ring by pulling these two apart?

Check the link to the website above, Global Direct parts has the midplate with and without the lense. I didn't look close enough to see if they had just the lense. They seem to be on some sort of holiday and aren't shipping right now but judging from the verbage on their website they'll be back up and running in a few weeks.

Well I ordered the back from Samsung as a "warranty" replacement. So does anyone know if theres another place other than Global Direct Parts that has the front ring? I don't see any parts available at CNN.CN or Truesupplier.com

Get ready for the pain of a lifetime. I replaced the front bezel on a galaxy s (they're glued the exact same way) and it is an absolutely terrible experience. I wish you the best of luck because I've seen many people crack the screen while doing so.

So how did those people reattach the screen to the bezel?
Yeah I also been wondering the same thing and from my reseach I think that its not a strong glue but rather a adhesive thats not very strong. A hair dryer on a low setting will do the samething in helping to separating the parts. You can always contact the people at ifixit to find out how it is really attach.

anyway - I wanna replace the bezel too...but havent found anything. let's keep eachother up to date here.
I work at a service and repair store and already tore mine open. The bezel around the screen is the scariest part. Its easy tho, just use a guitar pick and go all the way around the ring. It just snaps in. may help to take the back of the phone off while your doing it.

When I replaced my screen all the adhesive stuck to the screen not the bezel. I used a heat gun on low heat to transfer it over to the new screen. It worked but I couldnt get it all over. If you are going to heat it I would recommend it being fairly low, not hot enough to burn your hand.
I bought a replacement front bezel for an i9020T from global direct a few months ago hoping that it would fit my i9023. It doesn't. All yours if you pay postage, Im in Australia.

My TF701T fell off my bed over the weekend and the screen cracked (even while in the PERFECTO case ). ASUS customer service wants to charge $200 for me to ship it to them and replace the screen. I'm trying to find somewhere online that sells the touchscreen replacement to do it myself, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know a good source to find a replacement screen for the 701T?

Yikes, that's ridiculously expensive... I dropped mine last night and the screen cracked. The display is still alive, but it registers touches like crazy. Luckily I can still use it with my mouse to some degree...
Has anyone had luck with ordering parts directly from ASUS? There's no way i'd pay them that much for that job, and the going rate on ebay for replacement TFx00 screens (albeit every one BUT the 701, WTF!) is in the $20-$40 range. I've already got the tablet apart, and am working on separating the glass from the bezel with a hair dryer. Very easy disassembly.
I wanted to close the loop on this one since I initially asked the question. I ended up going with the tech support at ASUS, going through the RMA process, shipping my tablet to them, and having them replace the screen. In the end it was cheaper than the website above (they charged me $170), but it appears lke they sent me a new one in the end...because the invoice I got in the mail today said new, and it looks like it really is new (i.e., needing the firmware update again, not having a single thing that I had went it was sent, new registration number, etc).
So although it took them nearly a month, in the end I have my tablet back and it's smoother than ever.
I had one tf701t with a cracked digitizer and another where the LCD just failed (but the digitizer was fine). Since I was unlocked, I figured I wasn't going to get much help from Asus. I figured I'd swap the digitizer from one onto the other. I've done this on other tablets but I was unsuccessful on the tf701t. Getting the screen out was pretty easy. The hardware is close to a tf700, but one important difference is in terms of how the digitizer and LCD are attached to each other. On the tf700, there are screws to hold on the LCD. These don't exist on the tf701t and there are plastic tabs instead that don't lift up. It doesn't look like there was any intent to allow the digitizer and LCD to be separated again (unlike other tablets). I was unable to do so without damaging the LCD. I thought I did it, but when I turned it back on, the pressure required to slightly bend the LCD to separate it from the digitizer damaged it just a bit.
If anyone is able to make this repair successfully, I'd love to hear about it. Replacing the combined LCD and digitizer as a single combined unit, would actually be pretty easy given the assembly method (easier than previous Asus tablets). I think that is the planned repair process.

I successfully separated the LCD from the back of my broken digitizer without damaging it, and used the tablet for quite a while with the broken digitizer disconnected. A few weeks ago, digitizers started popping up on ebay from china, so I ordered one when they dropped from $150 down to $100. I saved all the sticky back foam for the LCD, and replaced all the sticky back tape for the bezel-glass attachment. The ribbon cable was mounted a bit closer to the edge on the new digitizer, so it wasn't clearing the bezel properly when folded over. So I had to bevel my bezel a bit, lol, and thus made room for it. So with great satisfaction of not breaking anything, I button the tablet back up and boot it...
WTF??? X Axis is inverted. I touch the left, it registers on the right. I draw a circle, it mirrors that circle. Damnit. I've heard of this being a problem with the TF201's, but this model too??? So now, I'm contacting the seller to see about an exchange or refund.
Parts Tablet the way to go?

Personally, I would do like I just did with my motherboard replacement on my laptop.
**Just buy a broken for parts/AS/IS 701 and just take what you need off it. Then you have a parts tablet. I saw a few go for less than 100$ a few weeks ago when I was looking for parts. I just ended up sending it to ASUS though. I'd rather have warranty work if it's still under warranty, than void my warranty prematurely.
That being said,by the end of the year, I'll probably invest in a parts tablet, just in case. I live a rough lifestyle, but I try to take the best care of my electronics. That being said, accidents happen.

TF700 Screen Woes
Just some related info that may be useful to some of you:
My Asus TF700 tablet slipped from my grip whilst crossing the parking lot from my car to the local Starbucks. To be fair, I've dropped it a handful of times before with no serious damage (including the very first day I had it... the tablet wasn't securely locked into the docking keyboard and I wasn't yet familiar with how to make sure!) But this time it hit the asphalt hard, striking the pavement directly on the corner of the folded keyboard/tablet case. The screen still displays, but the gorilla glass has cracks all over the place!
I took it to a local computer repair shop and they quoted me a screen replacement price of $150 to $250, depending on which screen was required. Apparently they were finding multiple part numbers for the TF700 screen, with overlap between the TF701 and the TF201. They mentioned that some screens are held in place with screws and so can be removed from the back panel, while others require actually going in through the glass itself to separate the glass and screen from the back plate. After reading some of the info here on XDA-developers.com it sounds as though the TF701 has the "fused" screen and the TF700 has the screw-attached version. In any case, I deferred on repairing it for now. I may instead try to sell the docking keyboard with supplemental battery to recoup what I can.

lots of ebay products claims to be OEM, but i smell knock off (aftermarket). my guts tells me i will regret buying from most of the obeyers who claims OEM/new .. of course their prices are tempting, for example most of them offering a range from $63 - $69..

what do you recommend, such as going after used ones that are pulled from previous one etc?

When my wife broke the digitizer on her n4, I was in the same boat. I searched earnestly for TRUE OEM parts. What I discovered was this site:

They are the most expensive, but to my knowledge it is TRUE OEM.
Due to time constraints, I ended up getting a screen on Amazon that claimed to be OEM, and while the screen and digitizer assembly I could tell were brand new OEM parts, the housing had been recycled, as it was missing some adhesive for the board components. While her screen works fine now, it lacked the filter for the led notifications light (as it was a recycled housing) and was more difficult to replace due to the fact I had to conserve the adhesive film off the old housing and transfer it to the new housing. If I had to do it again, I would pay the extra and get the TRUE OEM brand new from etradesupply.com

i looked at etradesupply, but i searched on google on them and there are many allegation they are not OEM, and their delivery time/shipping are not something you want to deal with. been said that, i am only looking for LCD and digitizer assembly as i can assemble them into the housing myself, i have already took apart the older screen out of the housing without a problem.
I bought from ebay one of the ones claimed to be an origiginal oem screen. Works perfect and do blemishes etc.

only one seller, answered all of them concisely, without political correctness or avoidance. lots of them stopped talking to me, and some only answered vaguely. i had one hilarious response, who said the the screen is OEM but not genuine, i insisted for him to elaborate, he said OEM but not original. all of us know that OEM stands for Original equipment manufacturer. i sent him a response, that it does not make sense to be OEM but not original. he replied back OEM for them is, Optical equipment manufacturer lol, heck i do not even know what does that mean lol. i took a screenshot of the definition and sent it to him, he never replied back hahaha. many shady seller on ebay

update,
as i provided previously with the link of the LCD/Digitizer, i promised to update after purchase and assembly.
i self repaired myself, took me about an hour and Half give or take. it works like a charm, no problem whats so ever.
advise, before attempting to do it yourself, find a youtube video of how to disassemble and reassemble, including how to apply the adhesive (took most of the time).
i can confirm, and take my words for it, the one i bought is an OEM LCD digitizer.

Can you provide any info on how u got the screen to securely cit in the frame, like what adhesive did u use and how u did it?
I did the repair my self the phone works great except the bottom ov the screen, sticks out abit n I can see the back light, very annoying

keep in mind the following things,
i used 3mm double sided adhesive tape, you can find them on ebay for 2 dollars give or take. the hard part laying out the tape in correct manner. you have TWO WAYS to do it that i know of using the tape, whatever that suits you. first one, most people will place the tape on the housing (if you did that, avoid placing the tape over the proximity sensor, camera, the usb, and the connection ports. or it will be a pain to remove them and damage maybe imminent in such situation ). the trick part, is the tape in vertical position around the edges where the bezels of the screen will sit (if its done incorrectly, you will have the problem you have described). therefore i will share the second method, my method :
check if the screen and digitizer works correctly before finally putting the adhesive;
WARNING: if you are not sure what you are doing, please consult with phone technicians for a professional fix. this is only my method/my opinion and in no way constitute a professional advise.
it is separated in to three parts
1 - use 3mm tape to tape the bottom and top of the housing, i repeat do not tape, the proximity sensor, camera, the ports, or the usb, use common sense or youtube to see which one is which .
2 - use the 3mm tape and tape the edges behind of the screen under the bezel (on the screen/digitzer assembly itself, not the housing). it is a narrow spot to tape, that where most people end up with popping out screen at the bottom edges and seeing the light. due to the narrow edges, use a small tweezers to place it.
3- use the 3mm tape and tape the edges of the housing where the bottom of the screen will sit (optional). in my case, i did that also
now peel the double sides 3mm tape, using tweezers will make it easier, much much easier.
once done, take your screen/digitizer assembly, and insert the bottom flex cables first into the housing (they are two cables, be careful, they are fragile), make sure the bottom part sit perfectly and all the cables are sitting correctly into the housing, before you insert the top flex cable (longer thinner cable).
insert the flex cable (the top one, into the housing slowly, while checking around with your eyes, that everything is aligned with the housing. once the flex cable in, double check and see if the flex cable is seated perfectly. check around the phone edges, and if everything is perfect, press gently on the edges, until the adhesive makes contacts. if you find that the screen is not sitting correctly, gently lift the phone slowly, and position it correctly before the adhesive sticks (takes about two minutes before the adhesive taking effects, keep that window in mind).
after the everything is sitting where it suppose to, place everything back inside the phone, turn it on and check again if its working along with the digitizer (i recommend checking whether the screen and digitzier works before placing the adhesive). once you check everything is working fine, turn the phone off, and unplug the battery cable from the motherboard.
use hair dryer (on low) or heat gun (use low temperature), hair dryer is safer if you are not sure what temperature to use with the heat gun and heat around the edges of the screen (keep it moving and do not stay in one place) this is for the final seal, about 30 to 40 seconds of heating. now the screen is sealed shut. leave the phone to cool down for a minute (optional: use a rubber band around the top and bottom for added pressure, not too tight though). plug the battery cable in and reassemble the phone.

i did the repair and all, the screen and digitizer works well, its just the bottom of the screen sticks up, i went ahead n ordered a roll of 3m 300lse double side tape, the dounble side tape i hav is just the regular black tape, dont think its strong enough, i will go over everything with a fine tooth comb when it arrives, i hav a sprint g2 on its way as well, do u know if the d800 and the ls980 frame is compatible??

I bought EB40 battery for Atrix HD through Etradesupply's Amazon store. I haven't had any issues with battery and lasted as promised.
Whole purpose of that project was to put battery from Droid Maxx into Moto Atrix HD and bump up capacity from 2100mah to 3300 mah.
May be different buyers have different experience or I just got lucky.

3m 300lse double side tape should be fine, as long as you use it correctly.
in regards to the frame, well that i am not sure about it. however, the LCD/digitizer i ordered was labeled OEM LS980 (sprint) VS980 (Verizon) and compatible with D800 (att- that is mine) and D801. so far, it fits perfectly. make sure it is OEM, if its not, the cut maybe off, that results discrepancy in fitting with the frame. also, double check with the seller, if the its compatible with your phone.

yeah maybe, all depends of course. most of these products are subject to opinions if there is doubt about their OEM legitimacy. but for me, i will not buy non OEM for battery again, it scares the hell out of me. let's say i had a horrible experience before. i had Note 3, and bought a battery for it. the extra capacity made me drools lol, so i went with it. days later, i found the phone in total meltdown, literally. woke up from my sleep, and the phone is melting/fire.... scary scary experience. the good thing, i do not sleep while my phone next to me. it was on my table, charging.
side not: the original battery of Note 3 malfunctioned

Just posting to share my experience. I bought a replacement lcd\digitizer for my G2. Once installed, i had white lines going up and down the screen.
Some devices use different panel hardware (JDI instead of LGIT) and you will have white lines after using patched kernel. You must use those kernel with "_jdi" in its name. More info:http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=122
After flashing the new kernal the phone works great. The phone does get noticeably hotter, unfortunately, which is a little worrisome.
The kernal issue and the heat lead me to believe that what i bought was not oem.

I was just working on a frame lcd assembly swap on an LS980 rev 1. The frame I bought was a Verizon LV980 and the vibrator was off buy at least 3mm, I didn't mind losing the vibrator to gain a good lcd. Then the proximity detector layout was different, the LS980 had an extra piece that fit in a hole, but it could be removed. About 5mm below that is a ground connector for the motherboard on the LS980 but not on the VS980 and the tab holding the antenna coax hit the motherboard making the frame about 0.5mm too small causing the mobo not to seat.
All of these could be amended. Shave 0.5mm of the soft metal chassis, very easy, mobo grounds in at least six other places and proximity sensor had a removable tab.
But the bottom of the chassis where the dock port/usb board sits was just too different, the LS980 daughterboard wouldn't seat, it was larger. It could be forced but only at an angle that made the usb port off-center and not parallel to the opening. My repair stopped and re-assembled the phone with the LS980 chassis complete with my damaged lcd.
-----attached pics of proximity sensor, and ground connector area, didn't take more, I was getting mad.

Actually I bought an LCD from this company. I am very happy with it. It is true HD and the it was shipped for me in 3 days as they said. At first I was very worried with the comments but I took the risk and I am satisfied with it. I don't know why others complain about it but I recommend them.
So I had an incident with my beloved Z3c (D5803) and now I find myself in need to repair it. I don't really want to share the details of such incident and to be honest they are not that important. What's important is that I decided to replace the whole LCD/digitizer assembly.
What would you recommend in terms of better achievable waterproofing, just the LCD/digitizer with the adhesive tape or the whole midframe with the display attached already? The one with the midframe attached already costs about 33% more, but I'm willing to pay the premium if that means that the phone will still be waterproof after the repair.
The same question goes for the back cover, should I just buy new adhesive and re-use the current one (which is in almost mint condition) or just buy a new cover with the tape pre-attached?
And lastly, I'm planning on buying this stuff on eBay, and I'd like to know what you think about these listings. I must note that I have a 20% site wide discount coupon, so if you recommend another site because it's cheaper keep that in mind.

There was very little residue which I removed and after that plopped the new one on. The new glass back panel came with adhesive already on it, I would advice that. The whole process was very easy and took about 10 minutes. Look around for repair/disassembly tutorials and good luck!

Thank you for your advice, I've already seen a couple of disassembly guides and I think I've got a good idea on how to fix this myself (or in the worst case scenario I could go to one of the hundreds of repair shops in the downtown, here in Mexico City, and pay the guy a couple of bucks to install the parts I'm going to buy).
What I'm most worried about is the waterproofing; have you tested your phone in this regard? I still don't know which part to buy, the whole assembly or just the LCD/digitizer.
As for the back cover... I might as well buy both the adhesive and the back cover, it would be like 7-8 bucks for both.

I have not tested if it is water proof because I am not sure it will survive the test As for your second question: if the primary concern is waterproofness you might as well go for the whole assembly, that seems saver to me

Yeah, I bought the full assembly, as well as 2 sets of adhesives and a back cover. I thought that I might be able to re-stick my current display (the only issue it has is a couple of dead lines in the bottom left edge; like 10 by 5 lines) and have it as a back up or maybe even sell it as scrap.
BTW, you can test if your phone is air tight in the service menu, if it is air tight it most likely is water tight as well. Dial #*#*SERVICE*#* #, then tests and then peressure sensor, squeeze the phone and you should see the pressure rise.
Mine, when brand new, rose a bit and then it slowly decreased... Now with the nature of the damage of the display I think that it wasn't entirely waterproof to begin with. Who knows? Maybe after the repair it will end up 'more' waterproof than before.
I just used that service menu, it shows me about 1020 millibar and goes slightly up when I firmly press the phone, so.... this means my repair was a success as far as air-tightness goes?
If it stays up for as long as you press it I reckon it still is waterproof (but then again, don't go swim with it based on this, even Sony doesn't recommend doing this anymore). If it goes down maybe it has a leak, but as I've said before, mine had such a leak since I bought it, so go figure.
