Hello,
I really like the Stock OS. Right now I have:
13.3.0.2 installed, which is a very old build.
My device is rooted.
What is the latest STOCK ROM that I can flash and keep my ROOT?! And how can I flash the latest ROM and keep my ROOT?!
Thanks in advance!
Not sure, but this seems to be the best indicator on XDA that I've seen so far:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/kin...hdx-stock-images-pre-rooted-updates-t2911954/
EDIT: Oh, wait, I see you've already commented on that thread.

This is a different thread, though. They are talking about NOT HAVING root and updating to a OS-Version, where they can root the device. I already have root and just want to keep my root. Thats a different solution, hence the new OT.

Do you mean flashing? (with TWRP / SAFESTRAP) or do you mean updating with a .bin-file in your internal storage?
you cant keep the ROOT if you update your version, but towelroot can root till version 13.3.2.6
Hi, I have just recently purchased a HDX7, it has been sometime since I rooted anything, about two years ago I think on the nexus 7 so any guidance would be really appreciated.

You're going to have to go through Amazon support — they're the only ones that can initiate a downgrade at this moment.
See this thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/rollback-to-devices-upgraded-to-4-x-t2946946
So amazon have just called me a stated that they cannot perform a roll back of the firmware ............
Roll back is possible, check out this post before calling customer services, it will help you...

I solved some issues I was having, thought I would share.
Notice Chrome freezing or responding really slowly? Or do you hate not having easy access to tabs and functions? Go to Settings and disable 'Merge tabs and apps'.
Can't remove system apps? Grab the app 'Parcel' from Google play. Uninstall the apps 3 times in a row, then reboot.
All I got for now...
Feel free to share yours!

To the best of my knowledge, for those of us who were not already rooted on KK, a Lollipop root exploit is not available yet.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I have a SM-G900V (Verizon) not T-Mobile as the link you supplied reflects. That link also states "CF-Auto-Root is not yet available for all models". I searched the forum and found no instance of "Verizon" or "900V". Thank you anyway. I'll keep monitoring the forum.

Sorry, first line in that thread is "**You can begin the following process from any build/ROM but you must have both root and Safestrap installed before proceeding**".
No other suggestions?
Why don't you downgrade to an old firmware and then update with the thread I posted? Don't know about rooting on a g900v as I've got a G900F
Is there anyway possible to root this device on the Lollipop update, 5.0? Other than keeping the root from v4.4, and then updating to 5.0.
If not, is there anyway possible to install Xposed Framework without root as well? That is really the only purpose of my devices being rooted is.

He means, go to Settings>About Device and look what the Android Version is. If it is 5.0 then do not bother looking to root your device...it's not possible on an ATT device with Android 5.0 right now.

yea its 5.0, is it possible to downgrade it? if it is, what version do you think is good enough to root?
You can't downgrade if you're already on 5.0, and even if you could, you can't install anything beyond Touchwiz (Samsung) based ROMs because of a locked bootloader.
Let me know if you have any luck

Thank you for posting this question because I am in the exact same situation. I have an AT&T Galaxy S 5 Android 5.1.1. I was never interesting in rooting my phone until just recently and have been doing some light reading on Life Hacker to learn more and it brought me here. I just wanted to clarify your comment above. Are you saying that having the phone that I/we have we are completely out of luck if we wanted to root/modify our phones? Forever or just until something changes down the road?
Well I sold my at&t s5 and ordered a unlocked tmobile s5 to use on at&t with my sim card because you can root the tmobile version. I hope one day soon someone will figure out how to root it I believe it will be done soon just keep checking back on here.

I don't think that will work, the firmware listed there is 4.4.2 which is KitKat, you can not downgrade to KK if you are on lollipop or marshmallow, you could soft brick or worse. I would not attempt this unless you are actually on KK.

For future reference, don't give these unsure ideas to people and tell them to update their phones like this. At the moment, YOU CANNOT GET ROOTED LOLLIPOP 100% of the time unless you were/are on 4.4.2 KitKat with root (use Towelroot) and update through muniz_ri's update method. Trying to downgrade to KitKat will result in a bricked device as the thread previously mentioned.
The reason why root persists on 5.0 when you update it via this method is due to using the older bootloader which doesn't verify the system's integrity the same way the newer bootloaders do.

Ah, sorry.
You are new in the Android world?
Magisk is the most used rooting solution.
You also need TWRP to install it and the drmfix later.

Luckily you can't mess your phone.
But at the moment you would need to downgrade to OREO and use xperifix to reactivate your camera after unlocking.
Then you can update back to PIE.
downgrading requires a phone wipe.
You could root I first and upgrade with titanium backup or you backup only your media data on the internal and external sdcard.

Your welcome.
Root is possible.
But for a working camera you would need to downgrade to OREO, apply xperifix, use your camera one time and upgrade back to PIE.

At least you can deactivate the apps.
On PIE I heared, you can use substratum and Andromeda for your font.
But with root, you can remove the apps and change your font like hell. :silly:

Yes,i know with root it all becomes possible and easy to do. But coming from a rooted Z5,i am very worried about the DRM keys and functionality. When i rooted my Z5 (with help) functions like Super Vivid Colour etc that were lost with DRM,once restored just never seemed to me to be as good as before i rooted.
