I'm curious - if you had no working handset at the moment, had to pay full price for a handset, and didn't want to buy who potentially might be someone else's trash off Ebay or Craigslist, would you pay $265 for a BRAND NEW Nexus One ?
I had one when they first came out, and then moved up to newer and "better" handsets, either brand new or used....
My latest, the G2, which was bought off Craigslist, fried after 2 weeks of having it. I've already talked to HTC, but then say I'm looking at being without a phone for 2-3 weeks before a replacement will arrive.
So, knowing everything that is out right now, and everything that is coming, would you pay $265 for a brand new Nexus One , or shell out $500+ for a "current" or soon to be released handset?
Nexus......other than the evolution 3d or sgs2 or even maybe iPhone 5.
Edit: actually....I will by the nexus. It get quick updates plus is very hackable. Also I will be saving.up for the nexus 3!

N1 anyday ...
Nexus One everyday at that price!
Just bought my wife a G2 to replace her (submerged) MT4G.
I would've preferred to get her a Nexus (still like the N1 better than both of those). The only reason I didn't was because I didn't want her to have the same phone as me - that's one of the advantages of not having a phone from the fruit company...
Without hesitation! I can't see what any new device has to offer that i don't have already.
Biggest benefit I can see of the newer devices is FFC , more RAM, and Dual-Core CPUs...
I've been thinking about it though - other than a larger screen, the N1 did everything I wanted it to do. Only complaint I had was when I held the phone to my face with my right shoulder, because the 2nd mic on the back was covered by my shoulder, everyone I talked to said I sounded really muffled.
its a pretty hard deal to pass up getting a new nexus one at 250 dollars. you cant go wrong if you do get it. newer phones like the galaxy s2 have better gaming. but really i'd get the n1 again today if i had to.
Finally i got my Nexus 7 back after 3 weeks. You don't even know how happy i was to get it back. That is until i found it that they didn't repaired it. Well they did repaired my nexus 7 dc jack but they didn't repaired my screen. I was having major screen bleeding and i specifically told them to fix my screen and dc jack. They only fixed dc jacked but I just got off the phone with Asus and now i got to RMA it again... This is very very annoying but i hope that they actually fix it this time. There go 3 more weeks. I really love this tablet but it sucks that i can't use it for a total of 6 weeks since Asus fail on their repair.

If I were you, I'd just sell it and buy a new one. It's so much easier than dealing with the turn over time and customer service.

I think they can not fix the screen, if not send you a new one and they don't want that.
Will see with mine. I have yellow spots and kaput speaker.
Will send it back next week.
I can't believe a big tech company like Asus doesn't have an advance shipping option!

Im surprised too but their quality control on devices sucks.
Well to be fair, it sucks, but about all mobile device manufacturers have crappy warranty service. Google does advance shipping on nexus devices that's why I bought my tablet straight from them. Wasn't crazy about the extra $14 to ship it but figured if I ever had a problem it would be less hassle then dealing with Asus.

Yea Google needs to setup some kind of advanced replacement for this stuff. Never have I ever had to send a device out for repair. Just send me a refurb, I'll send you mine, fix mine, and return it to someone else. Seems it would be better that way. Customers shouldn't be bothered with whatever happens behind the curtains...
I can understand laptop and PCs as those are a little more personal because of data and parts.

This is one of the things people forget about when they say Apple charges too much money. When you have a problem, you goto the Apple store, they'll hand you a 'new' device on the spot. Its usually a refurb, but if they don't have any refurbs, you get a new one. And if they don't have any new ones, you get an upgrade. My wife's iPhone 4 had an issue with the charging port. They had zero iPhone 4's in stock at the Apple store so they gave her a brand new 4S. Not a refurb, they opened a brand new box and handed it to her.
I'm surprised Samsung hasn't started doing this even if its a 'mini store' inside of places like Best Buy or the like.

Yeah that's typically how advance shipping works. You typically require a credit card to use it, exception being a carriers warrant service, which is because they can just bill your account if they find the warranty to be void

Wow! Good to see people's nexus 7's get repaired. I sent mine back a few months ago. *I had screen lift* . They returned me a new nexus 7 as they said, and when i opened the box there was a nexus 7 with screen lift , and scratched screen + someone tried to open it so i have real bad scratches from the sides all sides. How nice. Paid 260 euros for a nexus 7 16 gb. For that money i could've had a 32GB 3G Nexus 7 . Well that is how my luck is .

Call and complain. The N7 also doesn't have any type of serial numbers hard coded on the back once the removable sticker is gone.
I'm not trying to be a **** but I would just buy a new one and make a switch/return as damaged.

A few weeks ago after light use, and most of that reading, I noticed an entire band of pixels lighter than the rest of the screen. Mind you, my Nexus was 3 weeks old and that was 3 weeks ago. Notified ASUS and quickly got an RMA. Sent it in, got it back, read the repair note *BATTERY BAD, REPLACED BATTERY*. Nope didn't even fix the screen, let alone touch it. It still has the same band of light pixels. I promptly emailed them back and am still waiting for a reply. I read so many mixed reviews about ASUS customer support that I dreaded sending it in. After my incident I understand why.
just received my nexus 7 after three weeks
let me tell you how happy I am to have it back, though they didn't fix one thing on my c9o. not the screen flicker nor the charging issues..nothing.
on the paper had said found nothing wrong. also they stole my charger...it was written in the report that I was going to send that in as well and wrote on the paper inside the box.
this was Texas facility
I called then where's my charger..they opened a case for me, said were going to put me on hold to speak to manager, stayed on for 15mins then they hung up on me.
yo. **** you Asus I swear

Helps to be near an Apple store for that. I had the awful luck to be at school (with no means to the nearest Apple store before my warranty ran out) when my trackpad went nuts two days before warranty's end. Now I live next to one but I'm past warranty. And as the student manager for our college helpdesk, Apple makes mail-ins absolutely awful unless you're willing to argue.
That said, done and done on their in-store support. But Apple's got the on-the-ground presence to do that sort of thing. If Google made their own retail shops, I would be a happy person indeed.
...but what would you call them? I think it's Microsoft's Experts, Apple's Geniouses, and Google's...I dunno, kNow-ers?
Hi guys, trying to make a big decision here and hoping to get some questions on the X cleared up before I try deciding this. I'm comparing between getting a Moto X Pure edition in 64gb vs. the N6 in 64gb (assuming I can find one in stock ever). I've only ever had phones that were easy to root/rom/etc. though. OG Droid & Galaxy Nexus, also a Nexus 7 2013 for a tablet. I'm assuming the Pure edition already would have 5.x on it, but I wasn't clear if there is an easy way to root it like how on the N7 I just use fastboot to boot a TWRP image and flash SuperSU's flashable .zip whenever an OTA comes around and removes it.
The main thing I use root for anymore though is just so I can do something like run Titanium Backup to transfer saved data between devices (for games for example) or to make a backup before an OTA update in case something goes wrong. I could be living in the stone ages though and maybe there's a better way of doing it now lol.
Other things I'm wondering. I've heard varying reports of battery life. I know this has more to do with individual usage and installed apps/etc. but the battery does seem on the small side especially compared to a Nexus 6. Should I at least be able to expect to get through 10 hours of "normal" email/texting/bit of random gaming and not be on a dead battery? My other concern is whether not having the OIS on the camera like the one in the N6 is much of a problem. I should mention that I'd be coming back to Android (phone-wise) from a Lumia 1020 WP which I went with mostly because of the camera on it. I can't deal with the apps issue any longer though and DXOMark is rating newer android phones as having better cameras anyway. So, camera quality is probably the main concern. On paper the N6 looks better, but I'm just wondering if anyone can advise me on how they compare in the real world.
Going with the X would be great because the size is better, I could do the N6 but it's definitely big. I know I'm mostly drawn to it because "nexus" and 3gb of RAM and the camera. On the other hand I can get a 64gb Pure Edition X for like $125 less since moto-maker is showing $100 off right now. Oh, yeah, I'll be paying full price as I'm 1 year into the 2 year contract with AT&T on my Lumia.
Well that's a difficult decision since sizes are for me almost more relevant thing vs 3gb ram bigger battery different camera.
Rooting side victara is pretty easy, bootloader idem but at the moment we have only few people (making a huge work) working on moto x 2014 modding, maybe for n6 you can find a lot more "options"
Root for victara (for now) is only bootable with img file, no flashable zip as i know at the moment.
So i can only remember to you that size question is for me more important as the other things together.
Ps. Victara battery isn't so big but +4 hours on screen time is easy to achieve.

Thanks. Yeah I'm not necessarily looking for roms. I'm actually currently running rooted stock with unlocked bootloader on my N7 and totally happy with that and would probably do the same whether I end up with an X or N6 for the phone. I just wasn't sure about rooting on the X. As I said I'd be getting the Pure Edition which sounds kind of like a Google Play Edition/Developer Edition type of thing where I shouldn't have any issues unlocking and rooting it if I'm understanding correctly. I did figure out after looking closer at Moto's website that the $100 off I was seeing ends on Saturday so I guess I better figure this out quick.

The Pure edition is the way to go. Zero bloat, unlockable boot loader, easy root, fastest updates. The N6 is nice, but it is way too big IMO. The X has all the awesome Moto add ons (display, voice, actions), its performance is great, and it runs near stock android which IMO makes it every bit as good as a Nexus, if not better because of the add ons. Also, the motomaker customizations are amazing. I have a leather one, and I'm still blown away by the build quality and general maturity of it. Seriously, every other phone feels like a toy compared to it. Also, you absolutely cannot beat the price. It's an incredible value, especially with the $100 off.
Thanks. Yeah I'm really leaning towards the X now even though I want to in the back of my mind say N6 on principal of the whole "it's a nexus" "roms" etc. A friend at work also passed on a $140 discount code to me just now which actually only adds $40 to the $100 off promo Moto is already running but still, that's a 64GB X with turbo charger and leather back for $575 vs. $715 for just a 32GB N6 so estimating $770 with tax for a 64GB of that. Yeah, now that I look at that, the choice is becoming a lot more clear
Anyone have any input on ordering it with the Moto Care accident protection for $85 extra? I'm usually very good with my phones although I did manage to crack a corner of the screen on my current phone because I wasn't paying attention and forgot that it was on my leg before jumping out of a lifted vehicle in my driveway......oops.

Definitely get the Moto care. I have it on both my X's (2013+2014). Haven't had to use it, but it's comforting to know that I'm covered.

Thanks, yep I saw the $140 code my co-worker gave me is extended, I think I may have been talking about the $100 promo Moto currently has on their entire site because I didn't know about the other $140 one at the time.
I was in the same position as you a month a few months a go. I decided to go for the Moto X for the following reasons:
1. Size, I was worried the Nexus 6 was just too big. Though I never got to handle one, still haven't now.
2. Availability. I just couldn't get a Nexus 6 around Xmas time in the UK. And eventually got impatient.
3. Price. Motorola was offering £100 off when it first came out. No brainer really. In the end I used my free network upgrade got an iPhone 6 sold that on eBay for £480 (which promptly broke, lol) and bought a Moto X for £380 and stuck it on the iPhone 6's tariff.
4. Looks. Though I did really like the look of the Midnight Blue Nexus 6, I fell in love with the look of a Moto X with Bamboo back.
With regards how long the battery lasts it is really dependent on how much you hammer the phone. Today I've used it quite intensively hitting on the GPU with a lot of gaming and its now about to die at 9pm. However I've had the day off work, hanging around on my own so its practically always been in my hand. When at work or doing other activities I usually have about 30% come the end of the day.
Just to complicate things further you might also want to consider importing a Moto Maxx XT1225.

Hmmm, just based on a quick search, for that price I might as well just go with the N6 though. It would actually be cheaper I'm pretty sure at this point it's going to be an X in either leather which will hit at about 575 with the 140 discount and taxes or 550 if I decide to go with the plastic back. (that price includes tossing a turbo charger in as well)
One thing to consider is the the leather is meant to mark quite easily so you may want to invest in a case.
I have one and put it on if I think the phone might pick up some knocks, when my daughter wants to play with it, a night out etc.

Yeah I'm not worried about that. I saw the Droid Life article about how the lighter colored leather has aged over 3 months and I actually think it looks really nice like that. I think I'm 99.9% sure I'll be going with the X now instead of the Nexus and probably ordering later today. Stopping by a store one last time to see it in person.
Well, just ordered a Moto X with a $140 off code. Really went round and round trying to figure out what design to go with . I was trying to do something with the white face to be a little different but in the end I went with Cognac, black front, red trim, 64GB pure edition, and added in a turbo charger and the 2 year warranty thing. They must have had a ton of orders. When I started looking a couple days ago shipping was about 8 days. Now I have a two week wait

I ordered my 32GB Moto X on Tuesday the 10th, estimated arrival was Wednesday the 18th. It ended up arriving yesterday (Friday) morning. So you may get it early. So far I'm really liking it, especially the active display. I've only used Nexus for the past 3 years, but due to price increase and size I chose to skip the N6. The $140 off brought the total price down to $440, same as my N5 I've been using since it came out (until I shattered the screen dropping onto concrete).

Ah that would be cool. Unfortunately I now need to call Moto in the morning to find out if my order actually went through. My credit card sent a "did you really do this" text and we replied yes and I didn't bother to check my email till later as everything looked fine when I went through the order process. Looked at my email a few hours later and saw a "your order has been cancelled" email due to the card being denied, yet nothing on the Moto site shows it as cancelled just that it hasn't shipped yet. The card showed a pending $0 charge and a pending one for the real amount so I don't know if they automatically retried it and just never sent a followup email

Wow you weren't kidding about the timing. I ordered on Sunday after the fiasco with the credit card on Saturday. Got an email this morning that it shipped already even though it had said 3-2-14 when I ordered. FedEx site says it will be here Monday, shipping email from Moto said Friday the 27th.
Hello Everyone,
I am having a hard time deciding on what to do here. Here are my options:
A: Upgrade my current Sprint line to the Nexus 6 for $0.00 today, free activation and free overnight shipping!
B: Pre-Order the Nexus 6P for $500+ out of pocket today and have it essentially cost me $120 more a year. (Sprint Unlimited Plan is going from $60 to $70 October 16th)
I have to stay with Sprint. Looking at options A and B it really only seems logical to go with A... lol. Anyways...
I am looking for Pros and Cons for the Moto Nexus 6 vs the Nexus 6P.
Any and all input on this would be appreciated! Thank you for your time!
PS: This will be my first Android Phone. I have been an iPhone user since the 3GS! I currently have an iPhone 6 and I am just sick of my boring A$$ iPhones! After doing a bunch of research and such I decided that I really want a Nexus Device! I just can't decide between the Nexus 6 or the Nexus 6P.
Unless you absolutely need to have USB-C or biometric unlock, save your money. The N6 is still a very capable device.
Ooh and 6p doesn't have wireless charging...
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Not quite sure what the implications on your sprint plan is, but I wouldn't get the N6 from Sprint. Amazon has them for sub $400. I just bought the 64gb warehouse deal for $339. I know sprint is listing them for over $600 and you'll pay every bit of that though easy pay too. IMO saving $150+ by going with the N6 is the better decision.
Are you on a contract type plan with sprint still?
I personally love my Nexus 6. The convenience of wireless charging overrides any USB type-c in my opinion since I have 100 USB cables that work great already. I also like my motorola, as I was a huge fan of the Moto X line the Nexus 6 fits many criteria in one. But its your phone get what best suits you.
I already have the N6, but my wife is looking for a new phone. She's choosing the N6P, mainly because she feels that the original N6 is to clunky. Looking at side by side pictures the N6P looks quite sleek...
The only real difference between the two that are noticeable right away are the finger print scanner on the back, and USB C charging. I have a Nexus 6 and I will tell you, this phone charges fast as hell with it's fast charge feature and it makes the USB C charging seem gimmicky. For the price, I would say go for a Nexus 6! And someone already mentioned the Amazon price that's quite low right now, opinion of course, but I would say the real deal breaker here is if you REALLY want a finger print scanner or can live without it. I love my Nexus 6!
EDIT: You're coming from an iPhone? Welcome to the world of Android, you're making a much better choice!
Sent from my Nexus 6
Also want to say, since you're coming from iPhone, you're making a good choice going with the Nexus platform over one of the vendors (Samsung, LG, etc) IMO. While they make great phones, I think vanilla android is the best form. I cannot stand how the other mfgs load their phones up with just crap. I have an LG now that I love, but it's unlocked and running vanilla android
If you get into unlocking and rooting your phone, there's so much you can do with it but it's also a great experience stock.
I pulled the trigger on the Nexus 6! I've always wanted a phone with a big screen so I know I am going to love it! I spent an hour on the phone with Sprint and got them down to $500! I just explained to the supervisor that it is a year old phone and you can buy it directly from Google for $500. I still got charged the full $648-$48 instant discount =$600. $0 down installment billing through easy pay. But he issued me $100 credit to make up for it! They are also buying my iPhone 6 back for $385 so I will have a $485 credit on my account. I won't have to pay my bill for 6 months! HaHa! He also waived activation and gave me free two day shipping. I feel I did pretty well! Cost me nothing up front! I probably could have gotten more from selling my iPhone solo but the fact that it's a Sprint model would have made it a lot harder and taken forever. Plus it has a few scratches on it and such so $385 is plenty enough in my opinion. Amazons for $350 are a good deal but they say no Sprint/Verizon for some reason. In my area it is Verizon or Sprint. GSM is not an option! No AT&T or T-Mobile coverage at all!
I can't wait to get it! This is the first time I have bought an Android and this is the first time I bought a year old phone! I have always got the latest iPhone upon release. It was kind of hard for me to eat that I was getting year old tech, but I really wanted the 6" display and I wanted a Nexus device. (For some reason I always think I have to have the latest and greatest even though I am far from a power user) With 3GB ram and a Snapdragon 805 I am sure I will enjoy it for a while. As long as I get 2 years out of it I will be happy!

Congrats! You'll love android. And while this may be a year old phone, it's still arguably top of the line. The SD 808 and 810 are not clearly better than the 805, especially with the 810's thermal issues. Take good care of it and you should see 2 years easy out of the phone.
And besides, you can always trade early for next year's Nexus
Edit: BTW I love your avatar...perfect for someone coming from iPhone to their first Android
Awesome dude! Android is a much better mobile OS! It does so much more than iOS! And I'm a believer in the Nexus line! Other phones are alright, but like someone said, loaded with useless crap! Nexus is the way to go!

Yes sir!!
I got a raise and bonus at work, and I've been playing with the idea of getting the Nexus 6P.......I know though the HTC Nexus is just 6 months or so away......think I should wait for the new one this year or pick it up ?
Nothing wrong with my Nexus 6, great phone not damaged. In fact, I have never dropped the phone in the past 6 months of owning. If I did get the 6P, I wouldn't sell my 6.....still love it plus it's my first Nexus so there's lots of sentimental value obviously.
I would do it... But at this point I would wait for a huge discount, similar to the one that got me my Nexus 6 at $250 on amazon lol

Yeah that's what I was also thinking....if the price were slashed even more, I'd do it without question, but given that it's been out for awhile and still priced originally that's why I'm "eh"

Well, right now its $50 off on amazon, that's a good deal. It might go even further but you'll have to wait a couple of months I guess.

Yeah I saw the amazon deal as well. I'll probably just wait until the price drops more. I have a hard time justifying the purchase given that it's been out for awhile and the price isn't a huge drop yet. It's one thing if it just came out or was -$150 off, but -$50 they have been doing for awhile now.
It's $50 off on the Google store too isn't it?

To be honest I would wait for the new nexus line to come out. The 6p really isn't all that much better then the 6. I even picked the 6 over the 6p.
Me, I'd wait too. It's always nice to have money to burn, but if you're thinking of spending a huge wodge of cash for a phone which will be superseded in six months then you earn too much...
I've had my N6 for about 15 months and I still love it. I've bought Nexus devices since the Nexus 4 (so I've had the 4, 5, 6, 7 & 10), but I saw no point in replacing such a great device as the N6 with another one with a smaller screen and a suspect CPU.
I reckon in six months when the Nexus 6P+ comes out (Snapdragon 820... mmm...) you'll be kicking yourself for your impatience and prodigality.
I would wait too until the next nexus came out. I got mine 6 months ago and wouldn't replace it with a 6P, its just too expensive. I will see what the next nexus brings and if it isn't worth upgrading i wait till the 2017 version. My N6 will still be running fast by that time.
i am waiting it out, i also have my Nexus 6 for like about 8 months or so , and i love it.
it is my first nexus too, i will wait until the price drops from 499 down to 399 .
then might get one
I say no, I bought a 6P to replace my 6 with a broken power button. I had to remap the power button to volume down. After getting the Nexus 6P it still wasn't worth it, even with the problems of my 6. I sent back the 6P the day I got it. The new Nexus will be out it about 6 months or so. Hold out on getting it. The 6P will start dropping in price and depreciating value soon. If you have money from your bonus set it aside for the new one to guarantee you have the finances on preorder day (coming from a college student, may not be relevant for someone who works and had disposable income. This was just my reasoning behind my decision).

One thing that I don't like about the 6p is that it is by Huawei. Motorola is pretty good for customer service like broken screens and whatnot but I've heard mixed reviews with Huawei.
I think I'm just going to wait esp since my 6 is working without any problems.
Id prefer to buy from HTC vs Huawei tbh anyways.
OK Im just going to skip the 6p and see what happens this fall. Maybe pre-order the new HTC one. The HTC M10 actually looks nice. They have been putting out junk since the M8 so it looks like they have it right this time.
I'd wait for the 2016 Nexus since the 6P isn't a major upgrade over the 6 unless you really want USB type C and fingerprint sensor. However, I wouldn't be worried about the 6P being made by Huawei. In addition to the 6P, they've made some really nice phones like the P8, Honor 7 and Mate S. Huawei's customer service might not be the best but Motorola has recently had their own issues with warranty service.

Lol, took the words right out of my mouth, bought a 6p last week of amazon, used it for two days and boxed it, and will be returning it this week. I'm now on a N6. N6p heat issues were evident for me with pretty simple tasks.
I also though, the next Nexus should be along pretty soon, why would I pay $500 for a phone I'll trade off for the Nexus 7, if I can have a N6 for pretty much 1/3 of that.
Best decision I've made.
The N6p is not a bad phone, its a great phone if you ignore the 810's heat issues, but aside from that I just didn't like the feeling of the phone, its too thin, for me it felt delicate like it could break easily, and it felt extremely uncomfortable in my big hands. Then N6 feels just right.

That was another factor. If I were to pay full price for it I should have gotten it last Fall. Seems pointless now unless it's heavily discounted just b/c it has been out for awhile. There is a possibility that the new Nexus may be very similar to the new HTC M10 which I would not mind. I'm curious as to where the price point will fall for the new Nexus. IMO, for the Nexus phone, the base should be under $500. They have been slowly ratcheting up the price and it's for feature I think are redundant and only to compete against Samsung when their actual audience is oriented differently.

Welll I do hope the release a 5.5 + screen. I've heard wonders about the 5x, all the reviews tend to be positive, but I hate small screens.
Honestly, if you think of it, $550 for a High End phone with speedy updates and no drama (looking at you 1+1) is pretty cheap.
Another fact I forgot to mention, from what I saw 6P development sucks big time compared to N6 development. Devs just don't want to work with 810 devices.

For me the ideal size would be 5.5" like the Note. The Nexus 6 is slightly on the larger size, but I can live with it. If it were a bit lighter that would be perfect.
The Nexus 6p isn't too pricey at $499 + I'll admit and I don't need more than 32GB myself. I OTG frequently so space isn't an issue. The fingerprint scanner for example, I don't need and would rather not have it and save money. The wireless charging is also a gimmick as well along with NFC payment systems so if they got rid of that I'd be happy.
This is just me, but I think the Nexus 5 was the best approach, and the Nexus 6 is even my first Nexus, I never owned the 5. Retail $349 with specs available in 2013 was great. If they brought it up to 5.5" and charged $400 that would be good as well.
The Nexus 6 price point at over $600 was pretty ridiculous....fortunately I only paid $200 brand new in box. If they brought down the price to the $350-$375 people would probably upgrade every year.
I'm the outlier I guess. I've been a Nexus 6 user, which I loved, for well over a year and decided to get the 6p almost two weeks ago. This is the best device I've owned. I love it. I paid $550 for the 64 GB and consider it a great bargain. No heat issues. Extremely fast device. Great hardware. I love the fingerprint scanner and the camera is fantastic. Really good battery too.

This thread has been a great encouragement to me as I just picked up an N6 on eBay for a little over $200, and was wondering if I should have gone with the 6p. I just couldn't justify the added expense though. I've got an N10 that I use every day and look forward to continuing that experience with my phone. I'm coming from an unlocked, s-off m8 and I've gotten spoiled by active development and complete freedom.
