Note 5: Can I flash canadian firmware on my international Note 5? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I currently have the SM-N920i and my phone won't connect my carriers LTE network (ROGERS), I was wondering if I could flash the canadian firmware on my device, is this possible without rooting?
If so could you guys please leave the link or version name that would work for me. I'll leave some more information about my phone below if that helps
Note 5 32GB GOLD
Model number: SM-N920I
Android Version: 5.1.1
Baseband Version: N920IDVU2AOJ3
Build Number: LMY47X.N920IDVU2AOJD
Any help is appreciated, thank you very much !

Yeah, APN settings are correct

Yes you can if they both have same model number (920I)
And no knox wont trigger.

Flashing the firmware would not enable bands that are not there in the beginning. It's strange you can't get LTE. It has almost all the bands for LTE that Canadian carriers use which is majorly 1700/2100 bands aka AWS

Have you contacted your carrier and ask them if your device is setup on their end for LTE?

I have the international version and it works fine with Bell... No LTE-A though.

Hi Kingpin12, i ever faced the situation here in Indonesia when i first bought the Note5, what I did is go to the provider office and change the sim card into a 4G simcard. Maybe you should try to change the simcard first then give it a shot. Hope it helps.

Hey,
i've tried that, still doesn't work.

Was the last device you had on your line LTE capable and activated? You should be getting LTE unless you're in an area that uses a different band that the n920i doesn't have.

[Q] Can the N910t be used with a different carrier right out the box?

Hi everyone,
Im thinking of getting the T-mobile Note 4 because its the most "usable" model since its bootloader is unlocked, it has different roms to choose from and can be used with LTE globally. I know there is an international model (N910f) but it seems it has trouble with LTE in the US.
So the question is, can I use the N910t (T-mobile) with another carrier right out of the box, if unlocked? Meaning the phone never touches a T-mobile sim card.
Thanks in advanced!
It will need to be unlocked, then it should work on most networks. The LTE will Not work on Verizon or sprint though.

Be careful with the LTE network. If you want to use it internationally you better check the frequency of the local LTE carrier. Most international carriers use a different frequency. Use this page to guide you en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks

Do I have to input APN settings to use a T-Mobile SIM on a Verizon Note 7?

Hello everyone,
I recently got my hands on a Verizon Note 7 and was trying to use a T-Mobile sim card on it. The person I received it from stated that the phone was unlocked and when I put in my SIM I do see T-Mobile is available as a network. The problem is that I do not get any connection to the T-Mobile network, no calling, no data.
I did some research and I was wondering if I have to input the APN settings manually. Also, from what I understand, T-Mobile and Verizon use different bands, so would my data connection speeds be technically slower on this mobile vs a T-Mobile model?
I am also open to flashing the ROM on this Note 7, but is it possible to flash a Tmobile ROM to this device and basically make it a T-Mobile Note 7?
Yes enter APN settings manually. You can Odin the TMO firmware if you aren't squeamish.

Considering the crap that Verizon does to their phones I highly recommend flashing the T-Mobile from if it's possible. I was shocked to see how much bull**** they did on that phone.
I entered the APN settings, but still cannot connect to the T-Mobile network.

Yes there are threads. The phone hardware is exactly the same for all carriers. Just click on my profile name and I posted a recent link on how and where. [emoji3]

That's great news. One more question. I f I have a sprint, or vz note 7 buts its not sim unlocked, and flash tmo fw, will my tmo sim work without unlocking?
VZW is always sim unlocked. Not sure about sprint so somebody else has to jump in for assistance.

Convert Verizon Note 8 to Vodafone?

Hello - I have recently moved to Spain and have a new Galaxy Note 8 (Verizon) phone from the US. I also brought a Nexus 5 (Google) and put a Vodafone ES chip in it to use here, and it worked perfectly from day 1. As the Note 8 is the better phone and I would rather carry it around with me I had hoped simply swapping chips would work, but it doesn't as the phone still looks to Verizon. Is there any way to get rid of the Verizon issue and have the phone work on the Vodafone ES network?
Thank you and apologies if my search missed seeing this addressed earlier!

I believe you can flash your snapdragon device for the unlocked snapdragon ( USA generic non network specific note 8) USA version .
Don't think any Vodafone firmwares out there are going to be snapdragon compatible since the Note 8 sold in Spain is Exynos.
EDIT: first check your APN settings.

The Verizon logo appears on startup and in Settings "About Phone" it shows i'm on the Vodafone network in settings but it doesn't pick up my ES phone number (actually shows no number under "My Phone Number") and won't actually connect to the cellular network. Wireless of course works fine.
The phone is an SM-N950U.
Thank you.

APN is set to "Verizon Internet" (VZWINTERNET), if I were to reset to default would it pick up a new APN from the Vodafone SIM? Actually "Reset to Default" (and "ADD") is grayed out and does nothing when pressed. I can Edit the name, and apparently Discard it from the screen it goes to when I tap on Verizon Internet.

I forgot exactly how to add APN settings but seems like you definitely need to change the APN settings to your local Spanish service provider APN settings first.
Since if I'm correct you are using a stock Verizon note 8 with a Spanish sim card. EG not roaming.

I was hoping I could "ADD" a second setting in APN (per your link above) for Vodafone but ADD is grayed out and not accessible. I'll try popping in the Vodafone chip again and see what is and isn't possible and report back. Thanks.
Done!
I'm not quite sure how or why, but armed with the correct APN data I went ahead and popped in my Vodafone Sim card and booted up the Note 8. It did show the Verizon logo and a message about the Sim not being a Verizon Sim but once fully booted it had the Vodafone APNs and was on the Vodafone 4G network! Only odd thing I can't seem to resolve is that in Settings/About Phone the phone number shows as "Unknown". I dialed a couple local numbers and the correct (Spain) phone number showed on their screens so the Unknown number is no big deal. Googled the issue and the steps shown to get it in there are not applicable for this phone.
Of course the cheapo LG Nexus 5 phone accepted the Verizon Sim and worked fine immediately!
Thanks!

Glad it got sorted. Just out of curiosity, was there any particular reason why you chose a Verizon version to use in Spain? Or was it just the case of getting a better deal .

SM-N960F/DS VoLTE Enable

Hey guys. I got screwed buying a note 9 off of ebay because the seller in the USA did not say it was an international model SM-N960F/DS. I use t-mobile and don't have VoLTE, or VoWifi. Can someone walk me through the process on how to enable this through whatever means necessary. I'm not an idiot with technology and phones but also I have never flashed a new rom or anything. Thanks in advance for your help

Am afraid you can't get VoLTE enabled on the T-Mobile USA network with the international SM-G960F model
You needed the UN-branded US-model SM-N960U or SM-N960U1, or the BRANDED T-Mobile model SM-N960T

You will be able to get VoLTE option in the International version. Just insert VoLTE capable sim from your provider and restart the phone. I have tried it with an Indian sim and works perfect. Once you remove the card, VoLTE option disappears.

I have TMO with VoLTE/WifiCalling working on the F/DS model ordered through ebay with an original CSC of MYM (Thailand/Unknown). You have to have root, make a backup with TWRP, and use the detonator from the thread posted above TekHD's thread. Go to their telegram channel there is more support there and an updated version from bigTINY on TekHD's channel. Do some more reading on it but it is possible to get all your carrier features enabled on the international phone.

Your not alone. My samsung Galaxy Note 9 has the same problem. Yet it in my network information 4glte app it says my phone has volte enabled yet it doesn't work or seem to work for anyone?
After updated to N960FXXS3CSG1, the VOLTE and VOWIFI not work
I am considering picking up a SM-N960F/DS Samsung Galaxy Note 9, installing LineageOS 17.1 with MicroG and use with T-Mobile in the US. I have read that certain T-Mobile Services don't work out of the box, however, I have also read of a TMO Detonator configuration that can be installed which restores those missing features. Is anyone able to share their experience with this Note 9 version on T-Mobile? Did you use TMO Detonator? If so, did TMO Detonator fix all the T-Mobile compatibility issues? If not, which features are still missing? Does Carrier Aggregation work? If not, what LTE Data speeds are possible? Are you happy with the SM-N960F/DS Note 9 experience on T-Mobile? Is there still a site which holds the TMO Detonator File/Package along with Instructions? Any other thoughts or advice? Thanks for your time.

Unlocked Note 9 SM-N960U1 Doesn't work on any network

I purchased an unlocked Note 9 and all the networks tell me it won't work on any of theirs. AT&T, US Cellular, Verizon, Net10 all say no. I put my AT&T sim in and it works with low signal. Why would it not work? How do I figure out where this phone originated? I suspect Sprint because any phone from Sprint only works on Sprint.

Go to this site and run the IMEI. It will tell you if it's actually a U1 model or if it's a carrier model.
http://imeipro.info/samsung_imei_check.html
Whichever it is, you can just flash the ATT firmware, and it will work perfect on ATT. All the N960U and U1s are identical. Just different firmware.

I have the very same model and I just put in my LTE Verizon SIM and it worked right away.

I flashed AT&T but cannot get wifi calling. I ordered an AT&T one through Samsung last night. I'll return this one when I get it. The back of this phone says it's an N960U.
I forgot how crappy carriers are. AT&T unlocked my iPhone but no longer recognizes it. So, I can't get wifi calling to work before switching the sim.
Thanks a bunch to everyone for their input and workarounds! Have been out of the loop for a while.

There's actually a way to get WiFi calling on it working again. Look through the carrier switching threads in the Note 8 forums.
It's why I hate ATT and love T-Mobile. Everything works out of the box on T-Mo.

Well to be fair there will be places where signal will be weak or non and then you will be the one loosing.
They don't look at break is just way for the customers to get better signal every where they go or inside whatever tipe of building...

I also purchased an unlocked Note 9 on ebay. In "about phone", the model number is listed as SM-N960U1. On the back of the phone, it's SM-N960U.
The sites that tell you the model with the IMEI number are right, it's a Sprint phone. Samsung customer support said the same thing. However, the Sprint phone and the US unlocked phone share the same FCC ID.
Does that mean, they are the same radio hardware? Is it just the firmware that makes the difference in band capability? If you flashed the US unlocked version of baseband, would it be identical to the US unlocked version? I just want to make double sure!
