I recently installed Netflix to take advantage of a joint account on my Droid Turbo running the latest RR. I noticed, however, that I would get the mysterious black screen with only audio—no video. I googled the problem and found that several people had problems with it. None of them worked. After checking the RR forum post under Droid Turbo, I found that someone else had an issue with Netflix as well. I did what it said to do and it worked!
However, it started causing several visual glitches, most notibly when I adjusted the volume and tap and held items.
Under developer options, if I enable the switch that reads "Disable HW Overlays" it fixes the glitches, but Netflix stops displaying video.
Flipping the switch when I want to use Netflix is an easy remedy, but an annoying one. Any ideas as to what I can do to solve this?
This Netflix issue with fix is addressed in post #2 of the Resurrection Remix thread. That doesn't work?

Are you referring to the editing if build.prop?
It did, but it causes several visual glitches when items overlap other items, like the drop down menu in Chrome, or the volume slider.

Yes, that was the suggestion. But there seems to be some suggestion down there near the bottom, something about "developer options" and disable HW overlays?
Video apps Netflix HBO etc.
I'm particuly don't have this bug have teste youtube and netflix is all good, but was reported that this apps may not work for one user, the the fix is change a build.prop line:
persist.hwc.mdpcomp.enable
# GLES doesn't support secure display, to allow google play movies netflix
# and other apps that require a secure display we need to enable this
# but this cause screen fragments and glitch , this is a odd bug may not occur always, so is disabled by default
# to enable this change the false to true on the below line in the build.prop and to prevent screen bugs enable
# Disable HW overlays on developer options to not have glitch on the screen
persist.hwc.mdpcomp.enable=false

Yes, but once you disable HW overlays, Netflix stops working once again. So essentially it becomes a "turn it off when you aren't using it" situation which is annoying, especially when you have to deal with the volume slider glitching while watching Netflix anyways.

Its an okay remedy, but I was hoping there was a more permanent solution, considering Netflix is widely used.

I thought it was about time to create a unified thread that everyone can add to, about ICS annoyances and issues that you are experiencing using the new ICS releases that are coming out almost daily now. The developers post what is not working, like "Camera", but in reality that just refers to the hardware that isn't working. Functionality is a different story and my hope is that this thread can be a single place where everyone posts what their annoyances/issues are and then the community can decide what items need to go on the "hot list" below. This list will be the items we'd like to see fixed by our ever-so-awesome development community.
Regardless of which ICS build you are using (ICS4BIONIC, CM9, AXI0M, AOKP, KANG, etc.) there will always be little quirks that you'd like to see fixed. Post them here, and we'll see where it goes!
NOTE: Try not to post "as designed" annoyances/issues. For example, if you don't like that pressing the apps tray button brings up the apps list, well that is how Google "designed" their OS to work. That is a preference thing, not an actual "issue" that needs to be fixed, so you should seek out a third party app to address your need. Also, this list should attempt to only contain items that are issues on all custom ROMs, not just your specific one.
I will start this out with my list. I will edit/modify this list as time goes by and items get fixed and recommended, or deemed important/unimportant by the participants of this thread.
CURRENT HOT LIST (updated 2012-02-29):
Data must be toggled to GSM then back to CDMA/LTE after every boot (This is commonly known by users who have been flashing ICS over the last few weeks/months)
Contact images do not restore, even after Facebook app is installed and all contacts are set to sync. All contacts have default gray Android image instead of contact photo.
If you make/receive a call while using other apps (such as Navigation) you cannot easily switch between them or go back to the home screen (you have to wait until the other person hangs up)
Screen rotation is VERY slow by default (200ms wait time). Change to 100ms or 50ms for easier usability
Camera works fine for still images, but you cannot record video. Pressing the record button does not start recording, it just flashes and does nothing. Switching to Panorama mode also crashes the camera app altogether.
Native Gallery no longer has scroll button to quickly drag through photo library. You have to manually swipe through multiple pages. In my case, I have about 50 pages of thumbnails, and have to swipe for about 30-45 seconds before I get to the date range of the photos I want to look at.
Toggling GPS sometimes modifies Location check boxes, and even though you have re-enabled GPS, you have to manually go into Settings/Location and recheck the "Standalong GPS" box
The native Launcher has no ability to add widgets by pressing/holding on the target home screen as in all other Android OS versions. You now have to go deep into the Apps/widget menu to add widgets (unless you use a 3rd party launcher which of course uses more memory, and should not be necessary)
Many Apps are unsteady and not ready for ICS, like K9 Mail, Root Uninstaller, etc. They will install, and seem to function, but odd behavior occurs. For example, K9 Mail will mix up user credentials between email accounts. Root Uninstaller will see all your apps, but show 0.00kb space used for some apps, so the "Uninstall" button is grayed out and the app cannot be removed. MovieStudio app crashes after creating new project.
Many Games (even simple ones like Doodle Jump and Cubes), will completely freeze up the phone and make it non-responsive after only 5-10 seconds of gameplay. The powerbutton will not even respond, and the user has to do a complete battery pull (which for me is a pain since I have an Otterbox, multiple-layers to remove, then put back on).
Apps that toggle the LED light are very delayed when trying to turn them off. For example, the most popular one on the Market is named "Tiny Flashlight + LED" which includes a widget to turn the LED on/off from your home screen. This worked flawlessly on Android 2.3, but on ICS toggling the LED is very unpredictable. Sometimes it takes 30 seconds to a minute to turn off. Sometimes it does not turn off at all, and the phone begins to get really hot and you have to reboot.
Native Wifi Tether/Hotspot Toggle does not work. You must use the 3rd party Wifi hotspot app.
The wallpaper is static now, and does not move in the background when swapping left/right between home screens. I have not found a way to modify this, and this may not be a "bug" per say, but how Android 4.x is designed (a change in GUI). If you are like me though and liked the old way which helped me know which screens I was on, then it can be annoying. The screen indicator line is so small now, a tiny 2 pixel bar at the bottom, so it is hard to see which segment is highlighted.
VoiceToText feature now does live translation, where it converts the words as you say them, rather than waiting until you finish speaking an then analyzing. This can be good and bad, since now you have to manually press a "Done" button everytime you stop speaking, as the voice engine will not automatically close and analyze when you stop talking as it does up through Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
DSPManager (Digital Signal Processing app) only modifies output through plugged in speakers or headphones, not live playback through phone speaker.
Muting: The user is unable to mute a phone call. Pressing the mute mic button will cause it to flash, but the mute feature never actually enables.
NOTE: I will not change the numbers next to each issue, but instead add new ones to the list that you all come up with, so if you reference a specific # in your follow-up posts then they will always stay accurate throughout the life of this thread when others are reading it.

MIUI modifications are custom changes made by 3rd parties to modify the Android GUI/functionality and OS as a whole. Others can vote on this, but I don't believe this falls under the annoyance/issue category. Custom mods are really a different subject. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

FYI - The intent of this list is to keep the issues to Android-OS related items that we'd like to see the developers fix or enhance to work better. This list should only contain issues/annoyances of the OS of official system apps themselves that we'd like to tweak or change. The whole concept behind MIUI is basically wanting to turn your Android phone, for exmaple, into an iPhone, by making the GUI behave like Apple. This is just an example as there are many various MIUI endeavors. Thes emodifications basically install custom apps and change the GUI of the OS. This would be considered an after-ROM addon and changes the fundamental design of Google's Android OS. That is not what this list is trying to get at. We want to make the Android OS, as it is intended, work better; not redesign the Android ROM altogether. I hope that makes sense.
For example - See Wintergon's previous post about not being able to mute a phone call. That's a defect/annoyance that should already work properly, so it was added to the hot list. Of course, comments, questions and other viewpoints are totally welcome.
Bluetooth
Upon reboot, I have to toggle Bluetooth on/off for anyone to hear me on a phone call.
I have flashed and used all ICS versions available except Mimiu and found this issue. I have not tried to use BT headset yet
Upnp/dlna apps (bubbleupnp, moviebrowser) do not seem to work and actually lock up the wifi requiring a restart

I don't understand. If you are not using a Bluetooth headset then why is it enabled? Is this just for them to hear you using the handset mouthpiece like a normal call?

Hmm. I use wifi pretty much the whole day at work and at home and have never had any drops. They are different routers and ISPs as well. I would look into your wifi router settings. Try downloading the app named "Wifi Analyzer" from the Android Market and make sure your router is setup to use a Channel number that no neighboring wifi networks are using.

Thanks so this issue is common with nexus 6?
Some people have encountered it. Many, like myself, have not.
Thanks man. Hope it gets fixed with updates. Or is it kind of a hardware issue?
Ask Motorola, as I don't have that answer.
I have this problem that when I want to activate an accessibility service, I get a pop up message that says if there is an overlapping app blocking the options I should drag it away or close the app, as in the screenshot attached. I have no idea what is causing this but I have not been able to activate any accessibility services since upgrading to MIUI version 10.2. The device is rooted with magisk. Any help will be appreciated to get this sorted out. I get the Pop-Up each time I tap ok.

Actually I had the same problem in Februari on my Mi Note 2 (I have a Mix1 also, they are very closely related as to firmware).
After trying everything I could think of, and nothing helped, I sat back and thought "what else draws over other apps"?
Bingo! Gestures.
And it worked.
I am on MIUI 11 and after recent update of chrome, I notice laggy behaviour in Chrome, especially when scrolling. After uninstalling update lags are much lesser and then when I update again, issue comes up too.
Is anyone else experiencing same issue?

Same here. With DC dimming off lag is less but not completely gone.
I tried other chromium based browsers such as Edge and Kiwi. They both work pretty smooth.
no issue here on china rom
Don't really want to say that this is an solution. It's more like a workaround until it gets fixed.
You can put Chrome in your "game booster" under security app.
When I do that, the stutter is gone for me then.
I dont notice that behaviour, but chrome is eating my battery like a damn cookie monster! Its the main app that drains my battery

Hello everybody! Suddenly i have no more sound feedback (like writing on real paper) in screen off memo and in notes. Yesterday i have this sound feedback when writing on locked screen. It's on the boot menu on Samsung's.
It sometimes cures bizarre behaviors. I clear it about once a month or after major installs/uninstalls.

You're the one best qualified to find it. Cause and effect. The last things that were changed before it stopped working. This is one reason you don't allow auto updates, one less variable.
Sampling apps can cause big problems even after the app is uninstalled. I've seen it with a Google reading app. Rare but it happens. Best practice to install apks/version you previously vetted only.
Try in safe mode...
This has just happened to me too. Trying to figure out a fix.

I have a Galaxy Tab S8 plus. I'm suffering this problem as well. It happens to me several days ago, after updating both the OS and the stores. I'm also actively looking for a fix.
Scribble/writing sound only works in Handwriting (when you write in a box and the software converts it to text) or when S Pen to text is in use (only when in given text fields). None of the drawing or note-taking applications produces the sound, regardless of the settings. Obviously I checked the tables is not in do not disturb mode, silence or vibration only. Additionally, I double-checked the S Pen sound is on.

What I learned over the last decade about Samsung firmware* upgrades/updates, they tend to break things.
Rule #1- if an OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission let it be! Anything from Pie and above is reasonably secure in actual use without updates or upgrades if you don't do stupid things.
If worse comes to worst as long as the boot loader wasn't upgraded too (Samsung does that double whammy sometimes) you can roll it back.
Eventually... Samsung will probably patch it.
* includes Buds+ and other Samsung bt devices as well, last firmware upgrade degraded the sound quality of one pair I have If you have a pair don't upgrade the firmware. Last version shipped from the factory runs A-OK.
@blackhawk Take a look at this https://samsung-notes.en.uptodown.com/android/versions. Can you please explain how there are higher versions like 4.7 when the latest is 4.4.00.64 in Galaxy Store? Is it that they made the version and it somehow got there, but they don't publish it until further bug testing? EDIT: Or maybe a higher number in the version does not correspond to a higher version (judging by the dates)? I'm not into these things...
