Hello,
I did a reboot and now I can't use my phone anymore. I see the Boot animation but after the Boot up, the screen just turns black. I receive notifications and active display is working, also I can start my camera with the twist but I can't take picture because the touchscreen does not respond. On active display or the power off pop up, the touchscreen is working. So I did a cache partition wipe but this hasn't fixed my problem. The strange thing is that after a couple of frustrated reboots, the Boot animation changed to the old animation with the spinning world. I want to reset the phone via recovery but first I need to backup my data. I have very important Data on my phone like whatsapp log or Photos and videos.. I can't connect my phone to the computer because I have a pin... How I can Backup my data and what caused the black screen?
If your bootloader is unlocked you can flash TWRP. TWRP has the ability to decrypt userdata if you have the password. I don't know if it can decrypt the moto x or not, because TWRP only officially support ASOP type encryption, if motorola uses a different technique for encryption it will say the password is wrong. If it works you can browse and backup files from TWRP recovery.
If it says the password is wrong or you don't have the bootloader unlocked, then you are SOL and have lost everything.
In either case doing a factory reset will hopefully fix your issue.

So I did a factory reset now. But I stuck in Bootloop, i just see the M logo. How I can fix it? And no, my Moto X is stock like out of the Box.

After the factory reset bootup takes longer than normal, how long did you wait?
If that is not the case, what model moto x do you have? For example mine is xt1095. Also what version of android do you have? 5.0, 4.4.4, 5.0.2, 5.1, etc?

same issue today
also have the same issue, black screen after reboot. moto voice, active display/notifications are responsive, camera too when twisting the phone. moto voice says "unlock your phone to continue" but i currently don't have any screen locks or anything, just swipe. i have a pure edition running on 5.1. Skeptical about a reset since the phone is still responsive.. tried looking for other fixes, but looks like this issue is just coming up today...
This exact same thing happened to me. Updated to 5.1 about a week ago via the OTA. Wiping cache did nothing. Diagnosing it as a software issue, I attempted to sideload the official 5.1 OTA that's posted elsewhere in the forums. It came back as installation aborted, so I gave up on any hope of keeping my data and did a factory reset. Now all it does is bootloop, sometimes settling on the prone android no command screen for a little while. I can boot into recovery and the bootloader, but thats it. Really hoping someone can come up with a solution. XT1096.

I've waited about 30 minutes, in this time my phone just bootet into the recovery by his self. I've contacted Motorola and I'll send my device to repair.
It's a xt1092 with 5.1 RETDE.
I personally think that this issue is caused by the Boot animation update.

Flash the stock 5.1 logo, kernel, system, modem, baseband and recovery for the XT1096 - the full image files are available.

Have you tried reflashing the system image from the bootloader?
is that possible without adb? If so, can you tell me how?

You still do everything through terminal. You have to cd to your folder that has adb and fastboot enclosed, usually platform-tools. Instead of starting each command with "adb", you'll start with "fastboot" and you'll be flashing these while your phone is at the fastboot screen.
The full image files are in the forums, and all the commands you'll need, in order, are posted in this thread earlier
I have found that some time the fastboot from Moto wouldn't recognize the phone. I, then, use the mfastboot-v2 found somewhere around this forum works great.
Me too faced this problem few days back. Only option left to do was factory reset.
Read below just to go through of what i faced:
( I had gone through bunch of articles for restoring my data but i had a pin lock because of which while connecting to pc it couldnt detect phone.
Other things i tried includes flashing lockscreen bypass zip via stock recovery. There i faced signature verification failed error because i had done it through stock recovery where it doent let u toggle signature verification on/off as in CWM. )
And for those who wants their data back , i found many articles of data recovery after factory reset. But it needed your device to be rooted. All you have to do is after factory reset dont make use of phone and after rooting you can recover your phone by software as EASEUS android recovey, Dr fone android recovery. Thats all .
I am too facing this issue as of last night,, I have the verizon version (complete stock, no root, locked bootloader) and I am not sure how to go about fixing this without losing all my data.. I tried wiping cache but it did nothing.. Can anyone provide some kind of troubleshoot guide please? It would be much appreciated.
A friend of mine is also having the same issue.
I tried the 5.0 image and it won't flash.
I'm locked and without root. Is it even possible to flash even the factory images? (And yes, I've tried to go to the Customer Portal for the Moto X and that isn't giving me anything)
Edit: Finally got it to flash the stock image. Didn't help. Factory reset fixed things.
Note: I had this problem and was able to fix it through a factory reset, but I had to do it through minimal adb and fastboot. The bootloader factory reset option didn't work.
I am having the exact same issue. Has anybody had a luck resolving it short of a factory reset?
My phone battery died last night. I plugged my phone in, let it get about 15% charge, then tried to turn it back on. The phone boots like normal, but after the boot animation goes away, the screen is black. Active notifications still seem to work, and I can hold the power button to get the Power Down option. I can boot into the bootloader & access recovery just fine. However, my phone is fully stock (no root, no bootloader unlock, no anything). I can't seem to access ADB when the phone is powered normally (ie, when I'm at this mysterious black screen), but it's possible that USB debugging isn't even enabled.
So far, I've found a bunch people who've said a full factory reset will fix the problem, but I'm looking for another solution, or at least a way to grab my data before I reset. Since my bootloader's still locked, I can't seem to use fastboot boot to boot into TWRP, and I can't find any other way to access my data to copy it off the phone. I've tried wiping the cache using the stock recovery to no avail. Any suggestions?
So here's the deal. I had a Moto X Dev Edition with TWRP recovery and the latest CyanogenMod ROM, working properly.
I returned to stock using a Motorola ROM and their instructions, did get a gpt_main error in the process, but since it worked for a certain Reddit user (goo.gl/2sEmjz -- can't post links yet!) I decided to continue. It booted fine into stock, but when I did system updates, it would reboot into TWRP. So I flashed the recovery.img file. After that, the phone booted, then rebooted, and went into a recovery "installing updates."
I walked away for a second, came back, and the screen was black. I can't "force it off," it doesn't appear to be running, and I can't get into fastboot. Is the phone bricked (which I'm leaning to), or is it still running and I just need the battery to run out, or is there some other way to revive this phone via USB?
Hoping there's some expert I can get advice from, and thanks in advance!
I have had my Droid turbo since launch and as such followed the path the getting root on it for some time. I used Mofo to get root back on android 4.4.4, used it again to upgrade to 5.1 while keeping root, used sunshine to unlock the bootloader when that came out, and finally installed TWRP recovery on it. I had not done much to it since, but had Intended to install cyanogenmod for a while.
Well I thought I would finally get to it this weekend. I made a nandroid back-up with TWRP, copied it to my computer, backed up some files I didn't want to lose, and went ahead and installed the latest version of cyanogenmod 13 for quark (Moto MAXX and Droid Turbo) and the necessary gapps. It all went very well. I booted into cyanogenmod just fine, and signed in to google.
I was in the process of setting things up, like preferences/wallpapers/wigets etc, while google downloaded my apps. Not long after I started doing this, nova launcher would repeatedly crash, as well as cyanogenmod's built in launcher. I got fed up with it and rebooted. But the phone shut down and started acting odd. It would show what looked like the bootloader, but the open android guy was not there, and I had no options at the top. Sometimes it would just say AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure) with no other text.
I got it to go to the bootloader after holding down the power and volume down button, and got it to boot to TWRP. But TWRP said there is no OS installed, and it refused to install anything, wipe anything, and TWRP itself crashed after a bit when I left it there to try and use ADB to push my nandroid back up to it.
Now TWRP will not load from the bootloader, and I cannot flash anything. I wanted to just re-flash the stock firmware. So I downloaded fresh copies of it from the root thread here on XDA, but no matter what, i get the error "(bootloader) Failed to erase partition" It does this for anything. I tried flashing TWRP and the fresh system image. I tried following the steps on the root thread that flash things that you need to prepare the phone for the system image, but all attempts to flash fail with the same message.
I also tried using mofo to flash a clean system image. But it just stops and quits at 7%. I have had this problem before, and got around it by using mofo 0.0.2. But I no longer have that version.
I am at a loss here. I need my phone back ASAP. Any help would be much appreciated.
Have you tried doing everything from Terminal on your computer instead? That's what saved my butt once when I was in a similar situation.

That's all I've been doing
After installing CM 14(cm-14.1-20161221-NIGHTLY-h811.zip), being a noob, not paying attention to what software version(20i,o,p,q,etc..) i just went ahead and flashed CM14, not sure if that was improper or not, but anyway, everything seemed to work, had a substantally long wait time though at the CM mod logo boot animation but eventually it booted but just fine. Now however i got too damn picky about the fact that the camera did not have focus mode choices available yet in cm 14 so i tried to flash another camera over(G5 camera for G4 modded by Sezersimsek.zip) and after doing so, it seems to be stuck at the CM logo boot animation, but this time after much longer wait, still nothing, eventually my phone died so i tried to plug it in and start trying to boot again but after not long it gave me a message saying charge more before trying to turn on. But im fairly sure its just gonna get stuck again indefinitley.
So now I just want to get back to stock OS, firmware, whatever the term is. But im a little worried because i saw this forum warning about downgrading and im just not sure what version i should be flashing or if i can do it the same way i flashed CM just with the TWRP recovery img?
Any help greatly appreciated.
I would just flash the latest which is 20q. http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...-lg-g4-h811-20q-stock-rooted-rom-20q-t3513679
Be aware that flashing with KDZ will wipe data and remove root and custom recovery.
BTW can you at least get it to boot by wiping /system and reflashing CM?

LP 10n and MM 20i are V2 antirollback
20o-20p-20q are V3 so you can switch between them.
my suggestion is to use LGUP and 20q for h811 KDZ. using the refurbished option. when you open LGUP and have upgrade, select KDZ file once its selected and shows in main screen... close LGUP the open program now tick refurbished and that would install a clean installation wiping all partitons and no sound or camera bug should be gone.
EDIT: Everything booted up after while, just took a really long time for it to completely boot.
I had my xt1060 Verizon Dev Edition rooted and unlocked running Android 5.1. I wanted to flash it back to factory, so I downloaded "XT1060_GHOST_VERIZON_5.1_LPAS23.12-39.7-1_cid2_CFC.xml.zip" from firmware.center. Then I used the commands from Motorola's Restore to Factory guide, to flash the files.
That caused a bootloop to occur and have the screen to stay at the warning bootloader unlocked screen. So then I downloaded "XT1060_GHOST_VERIZON_5.1_LPA23.12-39.7_cid2_CFC.xml.zip" and tried that, and still the same thing.
I had an old copy of "MOTXT1060DEV_4.4-13.11.1Q2.X-69-3_1FF-CID2.xml" which I've used before to flash back to factory and I tried that. And now whenever I try to boot it up, it'll go into motorola's recovery and the image of the Android opened up keeps flashing on the screen, assuming that it's in a bootloop.
Up until this point I've been using osx-fastboot to flash the files, so I pulled out my old Windows laptop which had a copy of RSD Lite in it, and attempted to flash "XT1060_GHOST_VERIZON_5.1_LPAS23.12-39.7-1_cid2_CFC.xml.zip", which I tried the first time. I was able to get through that successfully, however it still did the same thing as before where the recovery was stuck in a bootloop.
I found this thread on here, and I followed the instructions for RSD Lite and the manual flash, neither worked did the same thing as when after I tried RSD Lite the first time. However the manual flash got farther, but is just sitting at the Verizon boot screen, and that's where it is right now for the last 15 minutes.
