Good roms with 4K camera and no GAPPS? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Does anyone know if there is any good roms with later Z series camera ported and no google apps? I tried browsing the forums here to find some good alternatives, but I have not been able to locate the ideal rom yet.
I have had problem with all CM based roms that touchscreen gets unresponsive randomly, so I'd really like it if you can suggest non-CM based roms for me. Previously I used ihackers, which was GREAT.

Thanks for the link. This is what I'm running right now.
But I'd really like it if someone made a version of this where all the Sony and Google services/apps were optional instead of already installed. I want my Xperia to be without facebook integration etc.

So just uninstall all those apps with some app manager

[ROM] Indigo Bean; CyanogenMod 5.0.8

Indigo Bean
Latest version: 1.0
Description:
This is a ROM using the famous CyanogenMod sources, version 5.0.8.
It has quite unique features compared to other ROMs:
Power Control Widget with automatic brightness mode (a Froyo feature)
setting to blink the (green) notification light
charging light (amber) if there are no notifications (also a setting)
Download:
I've written a small web-application that allows you to keep track of my releases. You can download ROMs and Add-ons there, as well as see some fancy statistics.
Check it out: http://derhofbauer.at/android/
Setup:
The recommended (easiest) method to download and install Indigo Bean is via ROM-Manager (which can be found in the Market). You can also use the QR-codes from my website.
Sources on GitHub:
http://github.com/aleho
Credits:
Thanks go out to kyosa (touchscreen patches) and defer (for saying "ramdisk"). And of course Cyanogen, the whole CM team and Koush for their great work!
Beer / Coffee:
Changelog:
1.0
Included bluetooth fix. Nothing new apart from that. Decided to bump version to 1.0.
0.6
New setting to turn on amber light while loading
Using native libhardware_legacy.so (updated init.legend.rc, boot.img)
0.5
Some bug-fixes (amber LED should really be working now)
Odexed system/app (will give you enough free space in /cache to install even big apps)
0.4 "Come on baby light my fire..."
Patched LED handling (green steady/blinking for notifications, amber for low battery)
Support for ROM-Manager (now that fake-flash is fixed for the Legend)
Protected apps should be visible in Market now
Removed Google apps (installable as add-on)
0.3 "S5K4E1GX is a beast"
5MP pictures
Odexed app/framework
0.2 "Fixing Bugs is pure Joy"
Fixed sync problems
Custom boot.img (ramdisk)
Moved some apps to /data/app (for easier removal)
0.1
Initial release
Known issues:
Camera needs a lot of tweaking (no zoom, image sizes hard-coded)
Search for carriers broken
Excellent, I never thought I'd see CyanogenMod on the Legend
I'd love to try it if only the camera wasn't broken......
Great. Downloading.......
is the volume key long-press working to change tracks in the audio player, as in the Cyanogen ROMs?
Looks fine so far. Thx for sharing.
One thing that does not work for me is Cardiotrainer from Market. When i try to start workout, it FC. Same problem with vanilla bean. The app works fine on all other roms and also on my magic with Cyangenmod 5.0.7DS.
For those that want camera i can recommend Vignette, it works perfectly.
It costs some money but its totally worth it since you can add effects and lots of other stuff.
can you take pictures ?
this are very great news! Thank you ali ba for your awesome work!
Looks like I have the same sync problems as in vanilla bean. I get no mails pushed. Have have to make a manual refresh .
is it possible just to have the lockscreen as an app?
Is it possbile to use metamorth in this rom?

Stock camera app does work with this release. Issues are 5MP and zoom. Besides that you can take pictures and videos. And playback videos, which is an issue with Vanilla Bean.

Sorry to hear that. I can sync right out of the box after providing my Google credentials. I changed some contact info in Google contacts and saw the changes nearly immediately on my phone.
Again: If you provide a proper log, I might be able to help you.

No. The Lockscreen is part of the framework. Replace the responsible class and the HTC apps will be broken. There were efforts to provide a vanilla-like lockscreen for HTC, don't know whether they succeeded. This is the wrong thread nevertheless for such a request.

You don't have write access to /system, so you'll always have to get into recovery mode.
Thanks for this image!
Has soneone found a way to install it with rom manager. flash clockworkmod recovery fails on my legend. Or is there another way to backup my original rooted rom before flashing this one?
Just an idea, have you tried contacting the CyanogenMod team and maybe submit some patches to make an official CyanogenMod version for the Legend? AFAIK the same has been done with the Desire recently, using contributor patches.
EDIT: I also presume they'd be able to help you with the camera problem.

Does vignette use the full 5mp of the Legend? The problem with camera app is the resolution.... it feels kind wasted having paid for a 5MP camera and not being able to fully utilise it.
You just made me realize that I simply have to root. I've gotta have this!

Yepp, it uses 5MP, you can actually choose from a list what MP you want.
rom is working great. again good work!
you know if the htc keyboard should be included? for some reason i have the default android 2 times

I'm maybe going to do that.
The problem we face is that the hardware is fundamentally different to the Desire, whereas Desire and Nexus mostly share the same drivers.

[REQ] Sony Xperia Z2/ZR Touch Block for XZ1

Hello,
I've been looking for a third-party application that allows you to use the physical buttons whilist the touch screen is disabled.
That would allow you to use your camera in wet conditions, I know that the XZ1 is not meant to be used as an underwater
camera, but it should at least function correctly in the rain.
Does an application like that already exist? So far I've not found one that functions as I'd like it to.
It would be amazing if someone ported the Sony Xperia Z2/ZR Touch Block application to work with the XZ1.
There's just one thing I'd change in Touch Block, I would love it to have the feature to hide the on-screen clutter.
Thanks in advance!
Kevinpar
EDIT:
I just found out, that Touch Block is included with all stock roms since KitKat, I previously had a custom rom installed which apparently did not include that small application.

Yes I have, there are currently no working versions of Touch Block for the XZ1 from what I know.
At least for KK 4.4.4, and I am almost certain, that it's not even available for 4.4.2
I've installed several different builds of the application on my XZ1, none have worked flawlessly yet - FC etc...

That's really weird, because I had Touch Block as one of my Small Apps ever since the update to 4.3 or 4.4. I'm pretty sure because I used my phone underwater already
According to my linked XDA post, that particular version should work on the Z1 though. Do you happen to have root? The only thing I could think of is that you may have conflicting software somehow, causing the FC.

Just to be sure, I tested that particular version again, I am currently on stock deodexed and rooted 4.4.4, fresh install, so I should not have anything interfering with the application. I've also tried the same .apk, when I was on 4.4.2, no luck. Besides, the topic you referred to, is about a version, that was originally meant for JB 4.2.2. If you go on the 2nd page of the linked thread, in the linked thread, you'll find that it stopped working after the JB 4.3 update, even on Xperia ZR devices, which was the device, it was built for.

I've never done this before but I think I extracted the .apk file that works on my 4.4.2 Xperia Z1. I'm curious whether you're able to install this now (as I don't know if this the correct way to extract .apk files). But it's worth a shot I suppose. I mean, it's the app that I found in my system/app folder so it could work :silly:

Xperia with Facebook

Anyone tried the Xperia with Facebook feature in 5.1.1 Lollipop versions?
I've tried using it (Go to settings>accounts>add account>Xperia with facebook) it loads for a while but it returns to the menu and nothing happens. I wondered if it changed because I just checked it out a few days after flashing a new stock ROM.
bump. anyone tried this feature? does it work properly for you?
anyone kind enough to check it out for me?
It is nothing special. You just press "Like" to sony mobile page on Facebook and it synchronizes your Facebook events with your Calendar and viceversa. That's all it does.

This feature bloat is completely pointless. On stock ROM, this is one of the many things I remove from my device. If you're going to share on Facebook, use the website.

Actually no. It does upload facebook photos in a much higher quality than uploading it directly on the facebook. (at least when it worked) Have you ever tried it though, did it work on your stock rom?

Facebook compresses your uploaded images regardless of what platform you use - Android app, IOS app, Sony app, website, etc. It doesn't make sense how the Xperia extension somehow uploads a higher quality than through the website. Besides, if the extension is truly hit-and-miss like you said, why are you still using it?

I'll admit, I've never tried it. However, I used GNOME Facebook integration that works similarly to the Xperia plugin on the Linux desktop. Long story short, it was littered with problems, so I just use the website. No issues so far.

I meant to say it did the job when it was still working before Lollipop or this version, plus it did more than that, like sync contacts and whatever although I did not really put it into much use.

Sip/voip

Anyone know how to get Android native sip working, can't find it in phone settings...
Used an activity launcher but it didn't make any calls...

Not sure if there is a native client, but I know Zoiper works for me.
necroing this here, i just purchased two of these for my kids to play pokemon go. They have FI data only sim cards and typically use my PBX to place calls. The native sip functionality seems to be missing in the settings. I'm considering using a custom rom which will likely resolve the issue, but I've heard of issues with custom roms and pokemon go so I was trying to avoid this route.
Any input regarding the native sip functionality or specific roms for this phone that work fine with pokemon go AND have working native sip would be appreciated. if your reply is about using a third party app, i'm well aware that they work and such comments are not helpful. thanks.

It would be listed as Google phone, not dialer , for some reason. It is in the open gapps package. And there are ways to add the needed framework and just the dialer if wanted.

i am pretty certain that the open gapps install script automaticly disables or removes the old version of apps that it installs., so dont think you need to use the de-bloat beforehand.
Now Im gonna try to install the gapps too to see how it goes.

Great! thanks for running through this! If you're interested in testing sip functionality, PM me and i'll make you a sip account on my PBX. It's US Nationwide calling and Canada.
I'm assuming arm is the appropriate architecture, being that it's an arm cortex a53. I looked through each edition of gapps and I didnt see anything that included google phone. Should i assume it's simply built into any version of Nano and above?

I re-read my post. It was not clear.
I do not have the menu for sip account. So something is missing from phone app.
It is version 10. XXXX
on my other phone(blu life max) running slim-rom and open gapps. The phone app is version 9.XXXX and it has the sip menu
I will try to find the gapps I installed on that phone and see if it is v9 vs v10 that is the problem of missing menu first.
If I get the sip-menu then I can follow up with trying your pbx if you want.

Still same missing sip menu using older gapps with v9.XXX dialer. Must be some stock rom interference with the settings. If camera is not a problem for you then the cm13 port might be an option. OR . The zen rom port has working camera, and has not had too many reviews. I will try to add gapps to that one and see if it has sip menu.
It's not a huge deal, I'll just run csipsimple for now. The kids use the camera for catching Pokemon...

the zen-ui rom has finished and it does not have sip-menu. Installed the gapps on it and still missing the menu.
The slim-rom I have on my "life max" is same rom used to port to r1. So my last attempt is to flash that rom and see.
But my port is not fully working. Audio drops out and camera stops working. But if the sip menu (voip) is there, then it is a rom problem. But if the menu is still missing, that tells me it has to be a kernel problem. All the roms have same kernel.
UPDATE:
yes the sip-menu is shown with the slim-rom port.
so this would be the 'native" option.
I have not spent time working on the rom in a while. I was hopeing for community help to finish. But that has not happened.
My current position with the rom is, I beleive the main issue remaining is the audio/ media server stops and rom needs reboot. This server stop is seen in the logcat. But i do not know why yet. And after it stops the camera server becomes unstable, then it stops.
I have seen , but not tried yet. An app in playstore that is meant for addressing the problem of camera server stopping. It is supposd to be able to restart it with out restarting whole phone.
Im planning to keep slim-rom on for few days or more and explore this app as possible work-a-round
Uninstalling the stock phone app and trying to install Google Phone from apkmirror did NOT work. Don't try it; I was only able to restore a working phone app by restoring /system. Maybe something in build.prop is disabling this? I might look around and see if this is a possibility; CSipSimple works perfectly though if people need sip support, as others have said.

I took on trying to fix my lineage and slim ports because of this sip phone question.
I now have a solution for sip phone on stock rom.
It is same solution from before that did not work, I found so reason it did not work. Blu had intentionaly removed the permission to sip and voip.
so if still interested in getting sip without third party apps. Here is a recovery install zip, that adds the google dialer framework, apk, and needed /etc/permissions
there is warning in the gapps install about adding google dialer that is also relivent here. Default phone app must be set to this goole dialer and also recomend disable stock dialer.
Wow, you rock man! Thanks for your efforts on this!!

Please share z2 MM SMS app

Hello all,
As I use Google hangouts for SMS since a very long time, I have removed the default sony SMS app.
But now Google decided to remove SMS functionality from hangouts, so I would like to put back the default app.
I should have made a backup before removing but sadly I didn't.
Could someone please share the Sony app? It isn't available on play store...
Thanks in advance.

With all respect, download 2gb and installing some program to open the file, for 1 app is not really the simplest solution. I had hoped that someone would be so kind to open his file explorer, browse to the apk and click "share".

Works like a charm, thank you very much.
It is a different version than the one that came with existenz, and I find it a lot better, better than hangouts even.

In that case I might have some old version in mind and have never used this one, I must have removed it instantly when I installed existenz then.
