Kindle Fire Dolphin Browser backup issue - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, probably posting this in the wrong place, but could someone try and help me?
I'll try and go through this step by step
The file extension of the backup file is .file, which is obviously a generic file, which is no help.
1. A couple of days ago, Dolphin Browser (I don't know the version, sorry) started glitching a bit. So I backed up my bookmarks, and uninstalled Dolphin, hoping to reinstall it. It has glitched in a similar way in the past, backing it up, and restoring it worked.
2. After reinstalling it, Dolphin refused to restore my bookmarks using Settings > Privacy and Personal Data > Backup and restore. When I did this, it said it was restoring, and then Dolphin restarted (As it said it would) and none of my bookmarks were there.
3. I then got an updated version which I had on my computer (Again, no idea what version) and tried installing that, and restoring my bookmarks using the same method as above. Again, it said it was restoring, and restarted with no bookmarks. Each time it did this, it said it was restoring for maybe 10-20 seconds.
4.So, next, I backed up a copy of my bookmark backup to my computer, just in case. I then did a factory reset of my Kindle Fire. Dolphin's backup feature backs up to the Kindle's SD card, so the backup stayed where it should be.
5. I then reinstalled Dolphin Browser, and attempted to get my bookmarks back using Settings > Privacy and Personal Data > Backup and restore. Obviously, this didn't work.
6. I tried using an app called Bookmarks to SD to get my bookmarks back. Didn't work.
7. Posted my issue on several forums, got in touch with Amazon, got in touch with Dolphin, and made several reddit posts. No joy.
8. Got an updated version of Dolphin (an official version, but again, not too sure what the version is) from the Dolphin website. I then tried restoring my newer backup.file. Didn't work, but it did restore my download history, strangely. I then tried restoring an older version of my backup.file, from a few months ago. Initially, it did the same thing the newer backup did, and only restored the download history.
I tried restoring both of the backups with several different versions of Dolphin, and no luck.
With regard to the older backup.file from a few months ago I got working, I've no idea how. After I downloaded an official version from the Dolphin website, I tried restoring both the older and newer backup file several times using Settings > Privacy and Personal Data > Backup and restore. The same restore, restart, nothing, again. I left my Kindle for a few hours because it was pissing me off. Before going to bed, I tried restoring the older file again, on the off chance. This time, instead of saying it was restoring for 10-20 seconds like before, restarting, and nothing, it now kept going. It did this for about 3 hours before I got sick of it, and turned off my Kindle.
When I restarted my Kindle, I tried restoring the old file again with the usual method. This time, my old backup loaded my bookmarks. I did this before I got the emulator. (See below)
I’ve tried:
• Opening the file in notepad
• Opening the file in notepad++
• Opening the file in Wordpad
• Opening the file in internet explorer
All of these methods resulted in either freezing or a file of unreadable text.
Next, I downloaded a Hex Editor, hoping to find out what file extension it was, but I was unable to do this, because I’ve no idea how to. I did quickly look up a guide, and it said the way to work out what file extension you have is to read the first line. I’ll include a link to some screen shots on Imgur.
In addition to this, I also tried downloading a program called TrID to work out what the extension was. It didn’t seem to recognise the extension, so no help there.
I also tried:
• Changing the file extension to HTM and importing it to Chrome on my computer
• Changing the file extension to HTML and importing it to Chrome on my computer
This did nothing. Chrome said it imported the bookmarks, but actually didn't. I tried this with a copy of both my newer file and older file, and nothing.
I've also tried renaming the file extension to dbk, which got the same result as the normal backup. It said it was restoring for a few seconds, then nothing.
Next, I tried downloading Dolphin to my phone, and restoring the backups this way. Same result, said it was restoring, restarted, and nothing. This happened with both an older and newer file.
Finally, I tried getting an android emulator (BlueStacks) and installing dolphin to it, and using Settings > Privacy and Personal Data > Backup and restore, for my newer file. Again, said it was restoring, restart, nothing.
And that's where I am now. I'm open to any suggestions. If there's any way of opening this file so I can get it readable, and copying my bookmarks, that would be brilliant.
Thanks, and I’m sorry for wasting your time and annoying you, but I’m seriously desperate.

Try renaming the file extension to dbk and then using Backup and Restore in the browser's settings to try to restore the backup.

When I rename the file extension, it doesn't do anything, sadly. Just says it's restoring for a few seconds, then restarts, with no bookmarks. Again, it loads the download data from the backup. I don't think it actually read the file, though, because I renamed it to something unique, and I could only find the original file name. Thanks for the response, though.

I think your backup file may be corrupted. However, I think Dolphin Browser's support center might help you out. You can try to tweet to them @DolphinBrowser, or you could try one of the other contact methods on their website.

That's it though, I don't see how it can be corrupted. The older backup acted the exact same way and then randomly worked. I've contacted dolphin in every way, and they just don't respond.

[Q] Any Way to Recover from a Nandroid Backup that is Partly Corrupted?

Hi guys!
I'm running Doc_Kalpik's V7.5 and I had a bad run in while trying to manually install MiniSquadron which I paid for yet have been getting download unsuccessful errors no matter what I do! But that's another story...
After I installed it, I got a force close...then I got force closes everywhere else so I decided to reboot. And I discover that once I get to the boot animation portion, I get several vibrations (the same as the force close vibration pattern) at this point and eventually the screen turns black while still doing the vibration thing..I press the home button and the backlight keys just light up nothing else. So I go into recovery to attempt to fix.
I decided to reflash the ROM via CWM so I disabled my lagfix first, then did a reboot into recovery. From there I chose to backup and restore and after all that I still run into the same problem at the boot animation.
I try to manually backup via CWM and then factory reset then restore via CWM and there I run into an error saying that no .android_secure blah was not found so it skips the restore of that. I again run into the same probem at boot.
I try to do an advance restore to just restore my data. Still the same error, and the same problem at boot.
I am only able to boot with no issues after a factory reset with no restore meaning all data is lost...So I was wondering is there any way to just restore some parts from the nandroid backup like messages and such...I would assume that the problem is with my apps that had been on sd...which were actually none at all except the manual installation of MiniSquadron I guess. I don't care for the data of the other apps, I just need my messages. I did have a titanium backup but it isn't very recent since I did not expect this problem to occur.
Any help is much appreciated!
I dont have specific information on restoration of messages because I have not yet looked into it - but I was able to recover a few files from a nandroid backup using unyaffs which extracts the content of the nandroid img files. Maybe you can extract the sms file ( /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db) from data.img and push it using adb shell.
In future, I'd suggest SMS backup app from the market - it backs up and restores into your gmail account.
Ohhh! I'll check out the img files later when I get home. I was afraid of looking into them expecting hard to discern, indescript file names I don't know how to make use of. But that file you pointed out seems obvious enough. I hope it's somehow usable without the full backup. Perhaps a simple move with Root Explorer app would work too? I'm not all too familiar with using adb commands...
Yes I have that app but I don't use it often for backup and restore jobs since I tried several times in the past to restore from backup and always seem to be missing more recent messages.
Thanks for the advice though! I'll report success/failure soon.
I don't seem to have anything inside my com.providers.telephony folder when I extracted data.img...Any ideas?
nvm! Found it in dbdata.img... will update this if this works.
Yes - a simple move with Root Explorer should work too.
It doesn't seem to work... No messages show up even after several retries with reboots I tried opening up the file within root explorer since it has sqlite viewer and it gives me an error..I forgot exactly what but it doesn't let me look within the database unlike if I try doing the same with the original mmssms.db file currently on my phone. I tried sqlite viewer on pc and when I attempt to open the file nothing shows up. Any work around to this? Is it possible for even this file to be corrupt in the backup...that's kinda devastating news..any way to repair this?

youtube not working

I hope I am posting this in the right place. I successfully rooted using auto-nooter and almost everything seems to be working well - thanks to you all for the great instructions because I am a totally noob in the Android department.
You tube worked (not sure if it was before or after rooting but now it doesn't). This is found at the end of the auto-nooter instructions:
"If your Youtube fails to launch delete /data/data/com.android.youtube"
I can't find "data/data/com.android.youtube" to delete. I have ASTRO installed. Can someone lead me through this please? Thank you.
If you install Titanium backup, there is an option to "Wipe Data" for programs. Just scroll to Youtube in the list of installed programs, hit "Wipe Data" and it should work again. Just don't sign into Youtube afterward, or you'll be in the same place again.
THANK YOU, peiziyu
That was easy - it worked great. xda rocks!
You can use Titanium Backup or ES File Explorer.
No problem. Glad I could help.
You can also use Nook Tools. Sadly this fix doesnt work for me and everything I try only gets it to work for a short period of time.
Don't sign in next time you get it to work.
If you remain signed in when you quit YouTube, it will just close the next time until you wipe data again..
That's because this version of YouTube is not really for Android 2.1, ...
has anyone tried this version? its the froyo/gbread version ported to eclair.

Start by getting Titanium Backup from the market (free), then start titanium and hit "backup/restore", go down to youtube and then hit "wipe data"
Hoe that helps

Reinstall
I rooted fine last night (and added Zeem launcher) and apparently signed into youtube and closed out. As such youtube stopped working. I tried uninstalling YouTube via Zeem and was going to install it again from the marketplace. But could not find it in the marketplace. I then installed Titanium Backup and it started working again (I didn't go into TB, just installed it). Today it stopped working again, of course I know why now after finding this thread. However, I have already uninstalled it and TB shows that it is uninstalled and I can't find it in the MarketPlace. How can I reinstall YouTube if I can't find it in the MarketPlace?
I am getting the following error in Ti Backup.
Code:
"Warning - System Configuration"
Your system will prevent you form restoring application. To correct this, go to your phone's Settings the in "Applications" and tick the "Unknown Sources" checkbox.
I cannot find that menu so therefore I am stuck in trying to repair YouTube. ES File Explorer does not show anything inside the /data folder that I can delete.
Thx
Edit:
Nevermind, I found the answer. Ti Backup needs an empty SD Card in order to see Apps. YouTube Wipe Data worked perfectly.
I was able to fix my issue.
I shut the nook off (not just the screen) and put in the auto-nooter microSD card again. Plugged the Nook up to the PC and waited. Basicly I was trying to re-root it. My PC started chiming saying it it found new hardware and that it didn't have drivers for it. It did that a few times and after about 2 minutes the Nook was turned on. I first noticed it had my normal wallpaper on it, so I unlocked it and all my apps were still installed, and the YouTube app was on there again.
So it appears that the auto-nooter saw youtube was missing and put it back for me. Looks like I'm keeping that microSD card around in case I ever need it again.
Thank you
Ti Backup worked perfectly!

[Q] Fixing the "process.com.google.process.gapp" error message

After TRYING all kinds of suggestions, none of which work, I found one that says:
- copy all google talk service and google talk app to system/app folder
- Grant all possible privilages to them
- Restart the phone.
In what folder is google talk service and google talk app located?
How do you grant them "all privledges'?
Seems to me the last time I attempted to CUT AND PASTE a file to the system/app folder, it wouldn't let me.
This message has come up EVEN AFTER I have installed numerous ROMs.
I appreciate any help!
Did you flash stock in between flashes?. To move a file rlto system/app use adb or super manager
If I have helped press thanks.
Clean install of ROMs
Every time I flash, I go back to stock and do a Master Clear, so my flashes are clean. I use Titanium BU Pro to reinstall apps, BUT do NOT restore system data, just app data.
I'm thinking that the problem MIGHT be related to the syncing of my calendar with the google calendar I have online. Triied doing the data clear, etc....
Like I said, I've tried everything except what I posted in my first post. Problem is, I don't know where the files are located so that I can transfer them to the system folder. This seems like the only other "solution" I haven't tried at this point.
Hate to do it, but I'm thinking about going back to stock 2.2 and see if that makes a difference.

Need help: Attempting to restore DLNA/System Service after Uninstalling

Prior to rooting, I reformatted my phone and afterwards I backed up all system apps and bloatware with Titanium Backup Pro. I then uninstalled all bloatware that I knew was safe to uninstall. No problems whatsoever.
However, just to be on the safe side, I decided that I'm going to restore all uninstalled apps, unroot, reset, reroot, and use Pete's script bloatware remover/renamer.
All bloatware has been reinstalled successfully except for DLNA. Whenever I try to restore DLNA or DLNA System Service 1.0, Titanium Backup simply stays on "Restoring App+Data" forever, unless I reboot the phone. I have tried reinstalling DLNA first then I tried reinstalling DLNA System Service first. To no avail. It just gets stuck on "Restoring App+Data."
Any ideas?
Hmm, strange...same thing is now happening with Flickr Authenticator. Perhaps TI is bugging out now. I just don't get it. Really hope to hear some input soon.
i restore all removed apps with this: www.psouza4.com/Droid3
once U download unzip n place in a subfolder named restore
I had a similar thing happen to me when using Titanium, but with different apps. I'm not sure what causes the bug, nor am I certain about how to fix it. It's part of why people have been recommending that we freeze apps as opposed to backing them up (with Titanium) and then deleting them.
However, you can get the apps back by going into the system dump and copying the necessary files back into /system/app. You can find the system dump here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164736
Just take the DLNA and DlnaSystemService apks and odex files, place them on your SD card, and then copy them over to /system/app using whichever method you prefer (Root Explorer, ADB, etc). Hope this helps

I don't think Psouza's Script can restore apps that are uninstalled. Only if they are renamed or frozen by TI. Please someone chime in and correct me if I'm mistaken.

That's fantastic, thank you my friend.
You are wrong.
When I was updating from 5.5.959 to 5.6.890, one of my apps was gone. Deleted. Idk how, but I searched my system for 10 minutes, it was called Fota.apk
I used psouza4s tools (he helped me) and restored the missing app, and then I got to update to 5.6.890

Titanium Backup doesn't see backups

I just got a Nexus 6 and i'm trying to restore some apps I have backed up from my LG G3. I copied the backups into the Nexus 6\Internal storage\Titanium folder. When I opened Titanium Backup and went to preferences and chose the backup folder, I pointed it to the /sdcard/Titanium folder and it showed 339 backups. I started restoring a bunch of them (over 100) and it restored some, but then stopped and said restore complete with like 60 errors. Now if I open Titanium Backup it doesn't show any backups available to restore and if I go to the preferences and choose the backup folder, it says "This folder is empty" on the same folder. Opening it on my PC shows that the files are still there.
I've tried:
Restarting the app
Force closing the app
Clearing cache and data
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app
Any ideas?
While this has nothing to do with the nexus 6 (also, it should be in Q&A), i will answer it.
You have to go to the menu, then prefrences. Click on backup folder location, then press detect. It should find the location of your TitaniumBackup folder automatically, then click use current folder and it should restart after that.
Tell me if it works
Had this problem many times, especially when changing devices. Sometimes changing app processing mode from direct to indirect resolved hanging issues for me. You can find it in preferences.
XabdullahX:
That was the first thing I tried (should have put that in the list of things I tried). Titanium Backup can't find it.
killall:
That didn't work either.
The strange thing is even if I use a file explorer to go to the folder, I don't see my backup files. It's like they're not anywhere on the device. But if I connect it to my computer, I can see them all right there, all 1000+ files.
Whoa this is actually a bigger issue than just TIBu failling.
A ton of things are on one view but not another. I see files/folders through the android file explorer that i don't see on my pc, and I see files/folders on my pc that i don't see on my android.
What's going on?
