Try using the screen cast option in the chromecast app.

I have chromecast plugged into my receiver and want to play music through it without the TV on. I have been messing with the receiver settings but can't figure it out.
Control HDMI off - auto power on tv but receives now signal from receiver.
Control HDMI on with sub setting...
HDMI Passthrough off - auto power on the receiver and tv. turn off tv, receiver turns off as well.
HDMI Passthrough auto or on - auto power on the tv (reciver stays off)
I realize that this will vary with different av receiver models (mine is a sony d520). Any ideas?
Just a simple thought, because it is how I have mine hooked up, but are you powering your chromecast through your TV?
Edit: I unplugged the power for my Chromecast through my TV and plugged it in a desperate outlet. I am currently listening to Play Music through my receiver with my TV off.

I'll have to check when I get to the house.
Another thing to check is if your TV is able to turn on with an input such as Simplink, Anylink, etc. Each name changes depending on TV. Try turning that feature off in your TV menu.

Thanks that did it for me. I obviously have to manually turn on the tv now but I figure if I want to watch something I am near the remote. In my case turning off cec on the tv as well as turning hdmi pass through off on the receiver gave me the setup I wanted. Now I can turn music on from anywhere in the house and have chrome cast turn the receiver on and play through the receiver.

Glad it worked. I have it setup as an option on my universal remote but when I'm just doing music I just have the receiver on.

I have a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8, when I try the "Cast entire screen" I get an upside down image of my desktop on the TV, everything else is working perfectly.
Anyone else having this problem? How can I solve it?
Thanks

I updated to the 4.4.2 update today and a cast screen button shows up in my settings panel. When it tries to connect to my chromecast it fails every time. How can I fix this to cast the screen? I tried to search for others with this problem but I'm not seeing anything.

It's not designed to cast to ChromeCast.

Then why would it automatically detect and attempt to connect to the chromecast?

That setting is for miricast wireless display
-Nexus 10-
Actually you're getting wireless display and cast screen mixed up. Wireless display is miracast. Cast screen is for chrome cast BUT is only a place holder for now.

So on MM and trying to cast my screen to my LG TV I see the TV and the TV acknowledged my N6 but it fails with an incompatible device error.
Is the only way to screen cast by using a Chromecast?

I believe some people have gotten Miracast to work with an edit to the build.prop. Unsure if it still works on Marshmallow though.
I tried to cast my Mi A2 to LG Smart TV and while casting I was only able to get the home screen that too with a settings button, which is not what my phone's home screen looks like. Does anyone know a fix to it?
Also, there is another problem of hotspot and wi-fi not working together now. Any fix for that too?

Ya I am using stock android 10 only. Casting is supported, I can cast my other phones on TV and I can even cast YouTube through other casting app. It's just that I am not able to mirror the screen and also not able to screen cast YouTube directly.
Also, if you are talking about extending feature in developer settings, that I have already tried but no luck, still it doesn't opens wifi and hotspot at the same time
