hi, i purchased a 2nd hand note 5
the model at the bottom back of the screen shows n920f
while when i check at the phone using an app and the code *#06#
the imei match the info but the serial and model number is different.
the phone shows model number N9208
mine is a Dual sim, which i believe a n290f variant is only a single sim while the n9208 is DUAL sim
did i purchased a refurb note 5 or is it been altered to factory unlock the phone?
thanks in advance

well bro i dnt think so there is n920f it shuld be C or i power off your cell and press and hold power plus vol down then slect continue option check there your model number
Yes mine is dual sim.
ive tried to boot to download mode and it shows n92080X
so the board is definitely n9208
The only weird thing is..
if somehow the case has been replaced before then it shouldnt match the imei number printed at the back.
so the only thing that bugs me is why would they print n920f at the back of the phone.
If anyone here got an n9208f model, can you check the serial and the model number at the back and see if it matches the one on the phone info.
Try this check the repair status maybe it helps

actually, thats the 1st thing ive used to check but it says original.
If you have 2 sim slots it's 9208. Maybe someone has flashed 920f firmware over 9208 hardware. My best guess is to flash an original 9208 firmware with odin and recheck after that.

Hey! I have the same phone now i am struggling to install a stock rom. Firstly the phone looks and feels legit but i installed a custom rom so I can't go back to stock rom . I can flash n9208 firmware but it will stuck in samsung logo after successful flashing.
Can you help out ?
I already sold mine but you need to go to download mode to get the original model. Then download the correct fw and flash thru odin

I got a note 3 clean IMEI (checked it at swappa) unlocked it via cellunlocker put in a metro sim and got this message: phone not allowed code mm#6 (the phone was rooted using kingo root)
any ideas out there?
thank you.
same problem here but i was using the phone with diferent carrier for over a year and recently the mm#6 poped up
Maybe check the imei here: http://www.protectyourdata.ca/check-the-status-of-your-device-in-canada/
The website refers to Canada but I have used it for us carrier phones too.

Just because an IMEI is good doesn't mean the phone isn't locked to one network( doesn't apply to you but someone else maybe). Also, all these IMEI checking sites are very misleading. If a phone is under contract the IMEI always shows good. They sell the phone but later stop paying, guess what happens?
HI, i had this version and i didn't find any data related to it like firmware , i noticed that everything run smoothly and mobile run the latest update (your system is up to date ) lollipop and model n920f was written on the back although of that when i tried to use Samsung info apk it showed that phone made in Korea and it was Verizon version n 920v so i figured out that phone was a Verizon version and was moved to china to be unlocked and back was replaced also so, am i right ? and if i am right , can i download Verizon marshmallow update without problems.
I thought the f was an international version which hadn't been released. Its usually the tag for european models, which of course wasn't released for the note 5.

I know that it seems to me an assembled version hardware mad in Korea for American company Verizon and was sent to china to be unlocked version so they changed the model to n920f instead of n920v and applied modified soft and kernel and they replaced the back also and wrote n920 f
What do you think bonerp ?

The 'F' variant for Samsung devices is usually for European countries, but Samsung never released Note5 officially in Europe.
There is no N920F, the international variant is the N920C, If the actual device is N920V then those firmware should work.
Download and install : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en_GB
And see what the bootloader and modems are, they should specify what the actual phone is.
Remember that you are responsible for what you do to your device so proceed with caution and always back-up your data.
Here are screenshots from Samsung info apk , what do you think ?

It's a sprint model, you should be able to flash N920P firmware; It seems like the phone is running a custom ROM which has the CSC of the N920V.
Again you are responsible for what you do to your device so make a back-up before you attempt anything.

how did you know it is a n920p not n920v ?

The bootloader and baseband belong to N920P.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/58061/N920VVRU2AOJ2_N920VVZW2AOJ2_VZW/
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/56804/N920PVPU2AOI6_N920PSPT2AOI6_SPR/
It's kind of confusing because your KNOX counter is not tripped but the firmware on your device seems to a mix between N920V and N920P with the Chinese and Sprint CSC

I'll be honest if there was a way to unlock sprint phones that way we'd already know about it, put in a T-Mobile sim and an att sim if they both work it's unlocked you can use any SIM cards if they work it's unlocked as long as you don't use sprint and Verizon for the rest. I'm very confident it's unlocked if it's not, it can be done easily

No it won't work unless first you have to clone main imei via chimera tool or any other tool that help to colne imei and you have to buy dual sim tray also.
After that dr.keten rom will work as dual sim.
There are many video on YouTube how to clone imei for dual sim.

please can the process of converting N960N to N960F/DS be reversed, and how?
So, flashing the correct firmware for the device restore the phone to it's factory state with software updates available. Dual sim will be lost, (of course). and the device will show the true model as N960N, not N960F/DS
Hello everybody.
I bought a refurbished N950U and I have a problem but the seller unfortunately doesn't respond. When I disconnect the data, the warning "You won't be able to use any apps that require an internet connection unless you use WiFi. Cancel / Turn off" appears every time. Samsung USA told me that the cause is the old FW; in fact it has the N950USQU6DSH3 (VZW). However, an IMEI results in a T-Mobile (TMB). I would like to install N950USQS7DTA5 (TMB, USC) simply with Odin. In this way, however, I'm afraid to lock it SIM/Region because I believe that the UK Seller has modified the FW before installing it to unlock it and if I overwrite it becomes SIM/Region locked. Correct? I don't know about American models, is it possible to update it to the latest FW simply with Odin (downloading everything from sammobile) and keep the device sim/region Unlocked ?
PS: software updates option seem locked (I think because of FW seller MOD otherwise device becomes locked...)
Thank you a lot
Best Regards

It should have a model number printed on the back.
I ask because I have seen a few posts now of phones that have parts from different variants, where it will say N950F on the back but the software is N950U, where trying to flash official filmware could brick the phone...
I'm not sure what to advise you, hopefully someone more knowledge will answer you.

Download phone info (Samsung) app from playstore.
Check the Hardware tab and check out the "Hardware/Board" and GPU.
If it says for eg, Samsung exynos 8895 and ARM MALI-G71, you have SM-N950F/F-DS/N
If it says for eg, Qualcomm SDM835 and GPU Adreno 540, you have either SM-N950U/U1/W or SM-N9500.
Any Mediatek cpu's you got a fake note 8.
You can also check your firmware that you are on.
BL, AP, CSC and Baseband first 5 characters has to match eg:
BL- N950U.....
AP- N950U.....
CSC- N950U.....
Baseband- N950U....
Edit changed cpu and gpu for note 8 Qualcomm chip.

It's real!
You can flash the T-mobile firmware N950USQU7.... that you want on it.
NAKE SURE PHONE IS REGISTERED TO YOUR GOOGLE EMAIL AND NOT THE OLD USER OR YOU RUN INTO FRP PROTECTION! BEFORE CONTINUING!
You can log in to your google account to see the devices that are attached to you on PC. (Google account the you log into playstore when you setup a new phone and phone gets attached to that account).
If still attached to the old user and you do a factory reset FRP will lock phone and ask for the old user google email to unlock it. So make sure it's registered to YOU!
Place the 4 files in Odin
BL = BL-file
AP = AP-file
CP = CP-file
CSC= CSC-file (this will format storage and put phone back to factory! Backup first).
Afterwards check your APN Settings or replace sim card if it is really old or defective.
Use samfirm.exe or frija to download firmware and unzip it.

Ok as you can see from the attached photo there are 2 devices connected one is GN8 so it is impossible that it is also connected to the old user, it's right?
Then If I download the new FW N950USQS7DTA5 (TMB, USC), Odin from sammobile and follow the instructions, is everything all right? I will not get a SIM / Region Lock, it's right ?
Because Samsung USA told me that it is lock by T-Mobile like I though...

As for being Carrier UNLOCKED it shouldn't lock to Your Carrier csc. Once its paid off and UNLOCKED by the previous person it should remain UNLOCKED.
You can read the 1rst post in this thread if you want to switch from N950U to N950U1 (not too much bloatware I heard!)

I did not understand what the SIM/region lock/unlock is in the fw that flashes or it is at another level? Because if it is at another level I think I can flash the newest T-mobile fw that the device remains unlocked, correct?
Hello everyone,
I appreciate all the good stuff you are supporting here guys. thanks...:good:
Just got a nice device off Ebay. according to serial number this phone is international dual sim version which was the one i have been searching for. Board serial number also matches the one which is printed on the back of glass.
Surprisingly enough the firmware and CSC is for korean SK telecom and only supports single sim with wrong imei code compared to the ones printed on the back glass (while serial number matches and there is also second sim option on the sim tray). The imei is operational and accepts carrier signal.
Apparently the phone is altered (knox warranty void 1 (0x0400)) but what makes me nuts is the fact that the device "refuses" to install its original factory firmware (according to s/n the phone was originally made for Israeli market which is the one i am trying to install.
Unfortunately i am not allowed to paste image links to show you how exactly errors look like but long story short:
- software installed is n960N
-software i am trying to install is n960F (native software)
-phone accepts 960N combination rom but refuses to install 960F combination rom just like firmware...
-phone has this error message: secure check fail : (pit) while odin says: Re-Partition operation failed
pls review the error messages and write your comments about this strange situation. thanks.
Because it's N960N, so you need to flash N960N firmware.

truth
The phone looks has been altered. You have an IMEI on the phone itself being different then what the phone is saying. Could just be a chassis replacement made to it. Or someone changed the IMEI which I know some do to get blacklisted phones working.
See if you can lookup the IMEIs and identify the phones by that to see what type of phone shows up. I think there is a way to do that..
