Casting the Screen to Chromecast - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

You can cast the Note 5's screen to a Chromecast by finding and opening the Chromecast app, opening the hamburger menu and selecting "Cast screen / audio". On my Nexus 7, there's a case option on the the quick settings. Has anyone found a quick method to initiate casting, or a a cast widget? Or maybe there's a simple setting somewhere I've missed?
Thoughts?

I don't know of any other quicker way to get to the cast to get to the cast screen option. I thought about playing with tasker and seeing if I could come up with something

I'd been hoping to find a widget that would do this. I wonder if marshmallow will bring something.

Same here. I use it often and a widget would be awesome.

Any way to stream Netflix as a regular tab?

As a work around for using Netflix outside of the USA.
I can use Netflix USA very easily on my pc but I haven't figured out how to do it with the chromecast.
I don't have a fancy router and standard vpns don't seem to work.
So maybe if one could cast the Netflix tab on the browser as a "regular" tab, instead of rerouting it to the Netflix app on the chromecast.. Anyone thought of a way to do this?

Have you tried casting the chrome tab that you are playing Netflix in instead of hitting the cast button in the Netflix player?

Yeah it doesn't work, it will redirect it to Netflix app.
If you hit learn more, it will show that it doesn't support plug-ins like silverlight or QuickTime.
Maybe once Netflix switches to html 5

I knew I had done this before so I played it with some. I was able to get video to cast but it wouldn't send audio. I guess when I played with it before I saw the video and went along my way. Maybe use google remote desktop and login to another machine and play netflix while casting the remote tab? Its not perfect and its far from pretty but it works.

Hahahahah well I guess it DOES work, but my wifi is far too slow to handle it properly.
Interesting enough, the cast entire screen feature works okay for me (some lags here and there, could be performance issues because of my low end laptop) , but it's watchable.
If only it had freaking sound.
Oh well the remote desktop app didn't have sound at first either.

Works fine for me but I have to bump it down to 480p. From my chromebook.

A router that can support Linux commands is not all that expensive. You might want to look into that again.

Is there any way to see what a chromecast is doing?

So,
our house currently has 4 chromecasts. if i am not the one casting, i cannot tell what they are actually doing.
is there any method currently to see whats being cast to the screen without being there (URL/mirroring)
thanks for any ideas!
There's an app called RemoteCast that tries to connect to an active Chromecast and take over control. It can sometimes show you a text title for what's running on the Chromecast. But the app hasn't been updated for a long time, and it doesn't work with many Chromecast apps now.

Issues with ChromeCast on a Moto X with 5.0

Hi All,
Brought a chromecast about 2 weeks ago to watch films off a site called showbox. When connecting my moto x 2nd gen to my chromecast the image quality is really poor.... really really poor! The playback is horrid and even swiping screens there is a huge delay. I've tried other apps such like iplayer, youtube etc and they are just as bad.
I couldnt manage to get the "cast screen" option on quick settings to find my device so have had to install app and run that way.
Chromecast does work fine when casting from IOS device's in household.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Darren
Screen casting in my experience is rough no matter the device.
YouTube should be of good quality because the streaming occurs via the Chromecast and not your phone, so I am not sure what is wrong there.

Sounds like you are screen mirroring everything? That's not a good way to do things. Screen mirroring is a last resort. Any app that is Chromecast compatible use it's inbuilt cast option. The Chromecast will then deal directly with loading a receiver app and getting a good quality stream
For showbox...? Not sure, but if you can open and play the videos in Android Chrome you can direct cast from Chrome. Alternatively if you can copy the stream url use LocalCast or BubbleUPNP to cast from the steam url.
My Moto G 1st-gen is about to get updated to Android 5, so I was wondering if that would enable screen casting to the Chromecast. If it works on the Moto X, I guess it will. But it doesn't sound like anybody is too thrilled with the performance.
In any case, a much better solution for casting from any web streaming app is to see if it has the option to output to "Other" video player. You can choose something like LocalCast or Avia and cast it properly to the Chromecast. That works for the app the OP mentioned, which BTW is not supposed to be discussed here on xda, so keep the discussion generic if you don't want the thread to be locked.

Screen casting (from the Chromecast App) works on my 1st Gen Moto G on 4.4.4. I use it a lot to cast photo slideshows with music (something that is still not available on a cast enabled app....why???). Performance is fine for that use case. Noticeable decline in image quality if I make it an animated gif slideshow with music. To be fair I'm also streaming the music/pics to the phone in the first place which is putting additional overhead on the wifi.
Thanks! I did not even notice that the Cast Screen feature had been added to the Chromecast app for my Moto G on Android 4.4.4. It works reasonably well for me even though it says "not optimized". Looks like it came with Chromecast app version 1.9.6 in early December.
I guess I didn't notice when this capability was added because I normally use the Chromecast with my tablet that's on an older version of Android, and the Cast Screen function does not appear on the Chromecast menu there. I'm surprised I didn't see it mentioned more prominently in this forum. I just took a quick look back, and aside from a brief post ending the previous "Experimental" screen casting thread, it doesn't seem like there were any threads about it.

Google Cast option in quick drawer

Hello guys,
i've been a sony user for years now and recently decided to join the Huawei community. So some days back i got myself a pretty P10 (L29).
I noticed that in the quick drawer menu (pull down from homescreen), there is no cast button. I usually do that to connect wireless to my soundbar which supports google cast.
Now, i know the phone supports cast and even audio casting, coz it works through an app called screen mirroring in app store. The app does exactly the same thing as the cast option in the quick drawer.
Now, is there a way to get the cast button in the quick menu?
Cheers
Would like to know as well

Found it though I don't believe it supports Chrome Cast.
I have 2 Chrome keys in the house and it can't see them.
Actually the mirrorshare feature on huawei supports miracast technology which is different from google cast.
I know the phone supports google cast, only the quick option is missing in the app drawer..Maybe in EMUI 8 it will be present

Download the Google Home app for chromecast in the Playstore.

No Miracast option

I moved to P20 Pro from Note 8 and can't figure out how to use Miracast to display my pictures and video on any of my smart TVs. On note 8 it was just an icon appeared within the gallery app and then you picked which TV you wanted to show it on.
I feel like this option was on my phone but since an update has gone or been turned off but can't figure it out.

Settings - Device connection - MirrorShare
Also on pull down menu, select edit, and drag MirrorShare to active, then you just have to pull down and press that on and on
Thanks for the reply. When I use mirror share it doesn't tend to find the TV. Also if I am only looking to cast 1 or 2 pictures just quickly this option takes a lot longer than what I could do on the Note 8.
