Just have a simple question guys,
If i rooted with any sort of 1 click method, can i still use adb commands later
in my rooted handset, or does it HAVE to run t through the process of adb.
I ask this cause with z4 i dont have to run the RUU
but i wanna make sure i can still use abd later.
ANy help would be awesome
I don't think one has anything to do with the other... you should be able to use adb, if you have it setup properly on your computer and all the right drivers are able to access your phone.
yeah thats what i was thinking!
just making sure from a more knowledgable source, thanks friend.
Its time to void some warranties..
Hi guys! Fist of all: Merry XMas to everyone
I'm now posting here for the first time. My employer gave me a KFHD 7 for xmas, and now i'm looking to turn this device's os into a good Android version (just found Pacman )
The problem is that, obviously, now my device has Amazon OS v7.4.6.
Following this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909) to get my device ready to be flashed, i read that is proper to start with a device with v7.2.3.
Ok... i get back and found this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
Just before to buy a factory cable on ebay to downgrade my KFHD, i want to ask you about some thoughts i have:
To downgrade to 7.2.3, do i need a rooted device? And how can i root my KFHD 7.4.6?
Reading first guide, seems not too hard to get Android on my KFHD, i learned that the process is:
Install on my PC Android SDK, in order to be able to run fastboot & ADB commands
Root the device
Install Bootloader & TWRP
Flash choosen rom
Is that the correct procedure?
Buying a factory cable, i'll be able to recover any kind of brick?
What is the difference between Official and Unofficials ROMs?
Just to ask you ( ): wich kind of rom do you advice as the more stable, eyecandy and usefull, based on 4.3? Do you think the PACman can be a good choice?
Thanks a lot, i'm new in this world, i would like to use my KF with a more flexible and usefull OS than the Amazon's one, but i'm a bit confused reading all the guides here
Once again: Merry XMAS!

Basically yes. Make sure you set the paths for fastboot and ADB in your environment.

A ROM does not become official until the dev deems it very stable. Most 4.3 ROM's are very stable.

I can't "suggest a ROM" but I can say I was happy using Cyanogenmod and Paranoid Android. There are many great ROM's though. Read through the topics before you decide and make sure that the ROM you are about to choose is working well.

Hello folks,
I posted this in the wrong forum earlier. Im a bit confused and need some direction.
I want to unleash my KF2 to full android tablet, So...I know i need to root it, I want to go with KitKat style rom but want 100% reliability (so will go with the most stable platform), I have been looking at the guides and how to pages for a week now and there is a lot on conflicting or different information. Can someone point me towards a guide or someone who can help me please.
My KF2 is stock with sideloaded apps at present its software version is 10.4.8 (which i can find no information about regarding root or other hacks)
any information will be gratefully received.
Many thanks
Andy
Anyone help out? Cheers, I'm eager to update this thing

root with kindle fire first aid, think it also has a option to install twrp and 2nd bootloader for you, not sure how reliable that is considering you are going to have to downgrade the bootloader and stuff, for some reason fireflash never had kf2 support added to it, which i find odd considering it uses the same method to do it, minus the fact it needs a different bootloader. Long story short, root with kffa, then either use kffa's option to install twrp and 2nd bootloader(if it has it) or use the tutorial for your device in the android development section made by hashcode. You must downgrade your bootloader though if you do it manually, just a heads up so you don't get stuck with a redscreen that only a fastboot cable will fix.
Thanks very much

Just to summerise,
I root with KFFA,
I install TWRP,
Then a 2nd boot loader,
Then I can do custom Rom,
In a nutshell oh 1 more thing, what's the best Rom to go for and at what point do I need to downgrade my bootloader ? Cheers

eh its more like root. downgrade bootloader from fastboot(make sure to check md5sum or risk hard brick), install 2nd bootloader +twrp.
Lemme grab a tutorial for ya: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100963
Hope this helps.

So I'll need to buy a fastboot cable to do it then
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
O you don't need a fastboot cable, fastboot cables are only to kick it into fastboot mode when bricked, you can get into fastboot from a working kindle with commands such as
Code:
adb reboot bootloader

Ok mega, so just follow the guide you posted, I'll root it tonight with kffa and do some research about the rest, the root seems quite simple with kffa

"Kindle Fire First Aide Step 13 : The Kindle Fire should automatically turn on and boot regular Bootmode. If the Kindle does not turn on depress the power button until it turns on. Next select Option 15 in the Software. The Kindle will reboot and will now see a screen that says: Fastboot Kindle Fire."
So i plug my kindle into the USB slot when it is turned off and it turns on as expected, I then go to the KFFA software as instructed to select option 15 from the main menu, except the main menu doesn't 15 options,
i have
1. device diagnostics
2. kindle fire 2nd gen
3. kindle fire hd 7"
4. kindle fire hd 8.9
5. rooting/unrooting
6. backups
7. extras
8. drivers
9. device diagnosics (root required)
10. [disabled] caution: install 2nd bootloader <TWRP>
i have tried going option 15 and it just opens option 1.
Im really confused as this doesnt seem to be doing anything.
help please.......

um just look through the menus for it, because i am not familiar with kffa, i do all the stuff kffa does manually in a terminal/command prompt. I can tell you how to do it manually if you want but other than that...
Cheers ....it's been about 10yrs since I did command prompt stuff, is there a guide out there ? Cheers

you could still do it all you need to do is run a simple "adb reboot bootloader" from a command prompt while cd'd into the kffa directory. Thats the equivalent of what it wants to do.
I'll give it a go, you have been a great help, thank you, I owe you one......if you need to know anything about cars or mechanical engineering I can sort you out lol

Sweet those are 2 fields I'm always interested in, I took a lot of autotech courses back in highschool because I have an old 75 corvette that sat in the driveway for about 10 years. Already replaced all the brake calipers, master cylinder, rebuilt the carburetor, and did the most ghetto fix to the tachometers circuit board to fix a blown circuit you will ever see. xD
I'll stop digressing before there's a huge paragraph about this, long story short it still isn't drive able yet because the transmission needs some serious fixing (some kinda vacuum issue makes the engine die when going into drive unless you rev it a lot while doing so, and occasionally it blows ATF all over the place from the dipstick/fill hole, was told by my teacher a while back it is probably a blocked vent or something, don't remember the term right now because its been awhile since I looked into it, but I digress again)

Lol, I love the old 'vettes, being a brit most of my expertise are modern TDi engines specifically VAG group and large agricultural engines I.E. SISU power or Cummings, but i'll always try to help where i can,
im going to have another play with the Kindle Fire of annoyance tonight if i get a chance.
I'll post up my yellow triange thingy, and ill try getting into fastboot via command line *bites nails ....shaking with terror*
Still no luck with this thing,
I'm going to start again on my desktop computer where I can start from scratch.
I'll start with the SDK program, Drivers and so on, then onto Root for Windows 7 (anyone with advice - I will listen intently), then I need help to install something like CM or a new OS.
I really want to nail this tonight
Thanks for all your help folks

ok i'm still here to help, also now i recognize who pm'd me the other day *facepalm* sorry i've been gettign on xda like right before i fall asleep lately because of a frustrating project i'm working on thats a bit above my knowledge. Rather than donwload the big sdk, look for a tut made by me in my threads (theres not many threads i created) and it has a zip with adb and fastboot in it and thats it. Way smaller and easier to use, just extract it to a directory and then shift right click the directory and hit " new command windows here" and you can run the adb and fastboot commands. Also drivers are in my signature. They are the kind that you right click the device in the device manager and hit update driver on to use. Any questions feel free to ask.
It's been quite a while since the days of rootif and such for me. I haven't had a windows machine for many years now. I'm still not interested in rooting and roming. But I would like to try the latest update even if it has bugs. Is adb and some instructions all I need to push the update?
Yes that should work, ADB push the download. I'll have to try ADB on my Chromebook now.
All the instructions I see say to have fastboot. Is this necessary? But I remember adb being all you need back in the day I think.
If you manage to get it working hook me up with instructions. Don't know all the file locations or exact commands specific to chrome OS.

Yes, you have to use fastboot. And you'll need to unlock your bootloader.
If have adb should have fastboot. They in the same tools package. ADB works in OS. Fastboot works in bootloader. They are together but have separate uses.
Thank you I was very confused about that. Thought fastboot was a whole other program.

Same package. Just the starting command is either adb or fastboot. To tell if working type "adb devices" in OS or "fastboot devices" in bootloader. In either instance should show your device ID number. Neither will see device in the wrong device mode. If see waiting on device either in wrong mode or or path to tools is wrong.
In case anyone is wondering, this is what I'm using

No you will need a computer to do this. I would not advise modding your device at all if you do not have access to a PC.
That root kit worked for me on MM and was easy. Why?

Dont even get me started on using a kit.
As to why. If something goes wrong you will need a PC to fix it.

Because if something goes sideways, and eventually it will, youl'll have no clue what it did, and how to fix it.
Nexus phones have open source tools, adb and fastboot, to manipulate them, they are very easy and straightforward to use.
I understand that coming from different phones, that only have hacks and tricks to unlock the bootloader and change the recovery, using tools seems obvious, but with a Nexus it's counterproductive, and makes fixing things so much harder.
Sent from my Nexus 6 running cyosp using Tapatalk
Thank for that insight. I wanted and took the easy/prepared route for unlocking and root of this phone. I was once familiar with manual way when the N2 was unlocked. I got to re-learn again. My last job made me very anal retentive about following instructions, and I think that made the rootkit easy to use. In 3 days I used it when I got with 5.1.1 and yesterday for 6.0. Today I flash Roms to find the one I like.

Any easy way to root 58r ??
Exqctly like K and N. Flash modified boot.ing, and flash SuperSu.zip in TWRP.

Why do people keep saying you need a custom kernel??? BTW, used nexus root toolkit on the K build without problems, no luck on R(never had N) but the tool got updated.... However... I would not be using any thing chainfire Su related sinds it got sold out.

Because at one time it did require a kernel change to get root.

Because you needed a custom boot.img to root 58K too. It will either contain a modified kernel with SELinux set to permissive (I've patched mine by hand, so I know what I'm talking about), or contain an updated sepolicy binary to allow su to work. Also since you said you didn't have red triangle, it means your fstab.shamu was also replaced with one with disabled verity.
So. Don't use rootkits. If you do use rootkits and discover you don't know what's happening, at least please don't keep correcting those who try to help you.

I was hoping that someone would answer this. Flashing files and rooting on Linux is MUUUUCH easier than Windows. Why? No need for special drivers to recognize your device.
Even better, if you try to run a adb/fastboot command without having them installed, Linux will tell you the actual command for you to type and download/install them...all within the command window.
This might sound confusing, but it is really easy and seamless, in my opinion.

Most of what you said depends on your distro.
On Arch you definitely need to add u-dev rules for the phone to be noticed, and if you dont have them installed and you try to run it, it won't tell you how to download.
But.... If you install via a package manager it will be automatically added to your path
Also, I have NEVER downloaded drivers for my phone in windows, and never needed to.
That's good to know. I should've added that I use Ubuntu as my distro, and I love it.
