Hi everybody! I have a Moto X (xt1058). It is on Android 4.4.2 right now, but I know that AT&T has updated it to Lollipop (5.1):
https://www.att.com/devicehowto/tut...step_KB422438?make=Motorola&model=MotoXXT1058
But when I check for updates it says "no updates". Anybody have an idea why my Moto is not upgrading? here are some info that might help:
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: MSM8960PRO_BP-2323.031.111.00R
System Version: 161.44.26.ghost_row.TIM.en.CA
Build number: KXA20.16-1.26
Yours doesn't have AT&T firmware on it, so it won't get the AT&T updates. You need to see if your carrier has updated it. Not all XT1058 models are from AT&T.

Thanks for the reply! So how do I figure out who is the career? (I bought the phone from somebody else)
TIM.en.CA in the system version suggests it's a Canadian carrier, possibly named TIM or something that uses that as an abbreviation. Just Google the system version and see what comes up.

I could not find anything, but anyways, that means probably the career has not updated the OS. Thanks anyways for the help.

I was wondering if there was a way to change my moto x xt1058 (currently with 4.4.2 Movistar Argentina) to an international or carrier free firmware?
I looked up in the firmware link from motorola and there seems it doesnt exist a 4.4.4 update, yet for the moto G it doesnt either but my brother currently have his on 4.4.4
Thanks in advance guys
AFAIK there's no international or carrier-free firmware per-se. You may want an AOSP-based ROM like SlimROM, DirtyUnicorns, etc.
You can flash a bloatware free version, though, but it will still be based on some carrer's ROM.
As of today, only Verizon has released its official 4.4.4 and will be full of bloatware also.
fortunately my phone came bloatware-free.
So the only 4.4.4 update out there is Verizon's?
My idea was to flash a firmware from which i would be able to get the earliest OTAs

Not only is this very risky (flashing another carrier's ROM), but also it doesn't mean that you'll get updates quickly at all!
In the case of the Moto X, Motorola has staggered the updates across all carriers. The camera update came first for 1 carrier. Then the 4.4 update came first for a different carrier. The 4.4.2 update was first for yet another carrier. The 4.4.3 update came first for the XT1053, and the 4.4.4 update came first for Verizon. There is nothing you can do to make sure you receive updates "earliest" - unless you switch carrier ROMS each time a new update is released. Not only is this ill-advised, but it could leave you with an expensive paperweight.
My advise is be patient. Your carrier WILL get it soon.
[I have no idea how OTAs are staged, so I hope this isn't the worst question ever asked in these forums]
I have a Moto X GSM (xt1053) that I got through Motorola using motomaker. I'm on the AT&T network, and things are working fine.
Since AT&T Moto Xs are xt1058, will my phone get the 4.4.4 OTA correctly?
Thanks

Yes, you will receive the OTA just fine. The network that you are using won't affect it at all.

That being said, they haven't begun the rollout of 4.4.4 on the XT1053. The latest available for it is 4.4.3.

Republic Wireless is still on 4.4.2, so you're not the last....
Anyways, the only known difference between 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 is the ssl and a couple other patches. Extremely minimal difference. There most lilkely wouldn't have been a 4.4.4 if the ssl bug wasn't discovered - we all would have likely went straight to L (eventually).
From what I have read the system version in tmobile 4.4.3 is the same as the other 4.4.4 releases. So we don't need the 4.4.4 update since we are already patched.

It looks like we are missing the OpenSSL patch, but have everything else. That said isn't the OpenSSL the most important portion of the patch?
Is it just me or has Moto never rolled out 4.4.4 to the unlocked GSM editions? My mom bought an unlocked phone straight from Motorola and yet she's still on 4.4.3. We're using the phone on T-Mobile if that makes a difference.

It's not just you. T mobile version got 4.4.3. A bug was found after they started rolling it out, so they fixed it for the other models (that's the main difference between 4.4.3 and 4.4.4). Most of the other features/upgrades were included in 4.4.3, so they didn't make updating the t-mobile edition a priority. It'll probably get it after they finish all of the others are done unless android L is ready to go by then, in which case, it'll probably just get that.

Oops, looks like the site is down.
I got 4.4.4 just a week ago on Dev Edition
I got 4.4.4 just a week ago on Dev Edition, although its not TMobile,
So might be possible, yours on the way.:good:
4.4.4 for t-mobile version (any XT1053 model) was delivered a couple of weeks ago. Go to settings/about phone/system updates and you should update if you have a factory phone - if you have unlocked or rooted, go back to factory spec before trying to update.

Google announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop a couple of days back and we’re already hearing news from various Android manufacturer partners for their Android 5.0 Lollipop update schedule. Major companies like HTC and Motorola announced their update plans right after a few hours of Google’s announcement, while Sony took a day to announce its update plans.
Just to be clear, the source article states that Samsung has NOT announced any plans to update to Lollipop, and the article goes on to speculate what those dates might be "based on past update cycles". So any of the dates are nothing more than pure guesses anyway. And the "date" given for the S4 Active would be a guess for the non-branded version supplied directly by Samsung. Anything that might or might not come for an AT&T version would come many months later, if at all. Just to be clear. Personally, while it would be fantastic to get Lollipop, I'm not holding my breath...

didn't get my kitkat update yet and you guys are talking about lolipop .... how sad am i !?
same here no update still on 4.2
I don't know about ota update, but people use official kitkat around 6 months. Install update via odin and job is done.

Lollipop has been available for the international model (i9295) for months, it's called Cyanogenmod 12. The only people in this forum unable to use lollipop are those with the U.S. model (i537). Along with the fact that the title of that thread you linked to has the actual model number in its title (and the firmware build number does too), I'm not entirely sure what rebuttal you just failed to articulate, but I'd wager it's inaccurate.

Firstly, this thread never implied its about the us variant i537, so his rebuttal was very accurate.
Secondly, The official Lollipop release only came a couple of days ago for the i9295, which is clearly what the OP of the thread begun talking about. Many people in this forum were unable to use lollipop as not many people count a port of Cyanogenmod stable enough to use daily.
Hope that helps you understand this thread better =)
any danger from manual update?
Hi friends. Sure most of you knows about the official 5.0.1 update for S4active which released for nordic countries on sammobile.
I am sill on 4.2.2 in Saudi arabia. My question is : should i update manually to kitkat firstly befor i install lollipop? And is there any dangers for updating my phone to this European update?

I have an unlocked AT&T GS4 Active that I'm currently using through MetroPCS. I still have an AT&T sim card. If I put the AT&T sim card back in the phone, would I have the ability to get the Android 5.0 update? I assume the answer is No as the AT&T sim is not provisioned, but would the sim allow me to get the update over the air? Do all carriers look at the make, model, build # and carrier of all devices to make sure the phone is compatible? I'm assuming if this doesn't work, rooting is the only way. Also, since I have service through MetroPCS, will they update to Lollipop once available or does my model number, SGH-i537, make them think I have AT&T ( and will not update software for the phone )?
Does having an unlocked phone prevent software updates specifically when the phone was made for one carrier only ( AT&T Active )?
Will MetroPCS automatically push software updates to all their customers or to just those that have an approved device from Metro?

You need to have an active AT&T sim card to get the update automatically. MetroPCS nor any other carrier will never provide updates to an AT&T phone. This is similar to asking if Honda will upgrade the engine of your Ford truck, it's never going to happen. Your only option is to update the phone manually using the guides provided in this forum.

So I've had the moto G (2014) for a month now and for some reason I can't detect the latest build version or the lollipop update. My sister has a slightly newer build but she didn't get lollipop either.

Which model do you have? I don't think XT1068 has gotten the Lollipop OTA yet. If you're on XT1064, you can side-load the OTA via ADB.

I just snooped the forums for a quick bit. Sadly Lollipop has not come to the XT1063 yet.
Just in case; I don't recommend you sideload the XT1064 OTA. There have been people complaining in the XT1064 OTA post that functionality was lost since they have a different model.
However, according to this post; Lollipop works. If you decide to use this method, be aware you are flashing a XT1064 OTA on a XT1063 phone. "I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO FLASH STOCK LOLLIPOP ROM OF DIFFERENT MOTO G VARIANT. " -AD9295
I suggest you just wait it out; as painful as it may be.

Oh i wasnt planning to flash it anyway, I am too much of a phone noob that i fear i might brick the phone, I was just worried that it might be my device's fault.
I can't get mine to find the update either. XT1064, locked bootloader, completely stock on 21.11.17 in the U.S. Phone just says software is up to date.

Looked it up in the Amazon store: they're selling 2 variants: the US version and the international version. The US version should have the update by now. The International version has to wait.
What version do you have?
XT1063 Global GSM Single SIM
XT1064 US/Canada GSM Single SIM
XT1068 Global GSM Dual-SIM
XT1069 GSM+GSM+DTV Dual-SIM, Brazil model supporting DTV
As far as I know only the XT1064 has the official Lollipop update by now!
If you bought the "global" version, you probably have the XT1063...
Mine (I'm from Europe) is the XT1068. So i'll have to wait too...
