PDF files will not default to Adobe. - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cannot get PDF file to default to Adobe and not Kindle. I have tried to clear app cache but it does not work. What can I do to fix this?

Clear defaults are greyed out for Adobe and Kindle via Settings/apps.

interesting, maybe try freezing/temporarily uninstalling the kindle app and open a PDF and select Adobe, always. That may override the kindle app once you reinstall it.

I tried that, unsuccessfully. It is possible that Root browser is at fault?

And what happens if you uninstall Kindle, and then open a pdf?

Did that uninstall. Bring up A PDF I click on the default button and Adobe for several PDF files. Exit Root browser get back in and select the same file. I get that select menu again.

Swiftkey 3 Tablet crashing on Kindle Fire HD 8.9

I've got a real issue here in that I was able to get Swiftkey 3 Tablet installed on a new 8.9 but it is misbehaving and continues to crash and respawn in an endless loop. I have a few seconds in between crashes to navigate around the device and I have tried several things to no avail.
I cannot Force Stop the service. I cannot switch to the default keyboard as there does not appear to be a menu item available for this. I've tried uninstalling but that fails. I've also tried resintalling but it stay in the same state.
Does anyone have experience with forcing the service to stop respawning and to switch the setting back to the default keyboard. If I cannot resolve this issue I will most likely have to reset the device which will cost me many hours in lost time.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
I was able to find a utility on this forum that exposed the Language and Keyboard settings so that I could access the default keyboard again. This eliminated the crash loop. However, I still cannot uninstall Swiftkey. Any ideas?
Did you try to uninstall it with titanium backup?

Thanks for the tip. I tried to uninstall with Titanium backup and it did not appear to work. However there was then an uninstall button available in the Installed Applications menu and I was able to get it uninstalled.
This may have also appeared because when I did a reboot an update was applied which appears to have reset some things. One of the things that has changed is that all of the apps that I side installed or installed through the Play Store have disappeared from the Apps menus. It's not an issue since I have Nova Launcher installed and everything still shows in there.
So the issue with getting Swiftkey to work properly still remains and I sure am having withdrawl from not having this app. If anyone has any ideas or a procedure on how to get that to work it would really be helpful.
But I cannot customize Nova apparently and add icons to the desktops. What a pain. Still looking for solutions to get this all running smoothly.
i managed to get it working after finding this instruction http://blog.wuepics.de/2012/11/swiftkey-auf-dem-kindle-fire-hd/#axzz2GznJiTxt
unfortunately it is in german but the gist of it is
install swiftkey (via play store or side loading?)
find the apk file (data/app likely)
using es explorer click and hold the apk file until you see the options
select view
go into the lib folder > armeabi-v7a
extract libswiftkeysdk-java-internal to somewhere you ll find it (download folder...)
copy the extracted .so file in lib/armeabi-v7a to system/lib
copy app from data/app to system/app
click to install in system/app (not sure if needed, i did any way. sorry i am kindle/android noob )
change permissions to user read/write, rest read only (same permission as the other apps)
reboot kindle
go to keyboard settings, select swiftkey3
no more crashes.
unfortunately the kindle menu overlaps the keyboard a little bit in landscape mode. but to me that is just a minor inconvenience.
hope this helps.

That doesn't seem to do anything for me. Each time my kindle reboots, I have to go to system\apps and reinstall Swiftkey in order to get it to work. If I don't, I'll get keep getting that error msg "****key Tablet has stopped"
Has anyone figured a solution to this?

After I read the response that the link was ONLY in German, I went to that site, and allowed my pc to translate it into English. This is what
I found:
In order to perform these steps is root access required.
Instructions
1 Charge here "NOOKcolor Tools" and installs it on the KFHD
2 Now go download your desired Tastaturapp on the Kindle.
3 Now open your file browser on the KFHD (eg ES Explorer )
4 Examined the copied in step 2 Tastaturapp
5 Keep it pressed to the apk., And choose "view"
6 Opens the "lib" folder
7 Opens the armeabi-V7A folder and select the . "so" file (!) from.
8 Click on "Extract". You possibly can you choose the path.
9.Geht now to the folder where you . "so" you extracted files and copy all the files into the / system / lib directory
10 Installed . "apk" the Tastaturapp and copied the . "apk" from the / data / app folder to / system / app Verzechnis
11.Startet the KFHD and opens new NOOKcolor Tools.
12th Now you can your keyboard to select under "Select Keyboard".
13th Ready!
Have fun with it
Please note that it is at your own risk and I take no responsibility for damaged equipment
This entry was posted KFHD Root & Mod , Kindle Fire HD and tagged Kindle Fire HD tagged on3 November 2012.
Now is it reliable? I don't know, but if you pay attention to the FIRST LINE, it states ROOT ACCESS IS REQUIRED. I have not rooted my Kindle Fire HD 7", so I can't try it out. But for those who have rooted their Kindle Fire, maybe you can try this. The site I had translated, http://blog.wuepics.de/2012/11/swiftkey-auf-dem-kindle-fire-hd/#axzz2GznJiTxt, is the site that was given. Good luck if you try it. ffman2152

[Q] Adobe air update safe?

hi, I'm trying to install paperless drawing, an app that tells me it requires an updated version of Adobe air. when I tried to update it, I realize it would make changes to the /system/data folder and I backed off......any advice?
thank you.

You should be ok. The update is going to be put on /data and all of the original system apps use /data for settings.

Update:
Dip you have any idea why the Adobe air update from Google play would not install and give me an: "incompatible" error?
Most likely because Google have certain spec regarding device certain app would play, so if Adobe Air wouldn't be installed initially it would say that and won't allow you to install via Google Play. But since B&N have it, and it's not suppose have Google Play, any update for any apps that come with Nook should have been from the B&N store.

I just went to google play, and when attempt to install AIR, it say "Package file was not signed correctly, uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again."
This mean, you have to manually uninstall the Nook version of AIR b4 u can use google play to install a new one.
Adobe Air is a system app. You cannot uninstall system apps. But you might get by with removing the apk from /system/app. Save it somewhere if you need to put it back. Removing files from system is ok, just don't replace them with something else. And you might need to delete the /data/data/adobe air folder. Then you might be able to install fresh. But I'm not guaranteeing it will install or run. If it doesn't just put the original file back and reboot. /data/data will rebuild.

Actually uninstall is kinda like removing app from /system/app. In fact I just tested myself. I use Titanium to uninstall Adobe Air, then go into /system/lib/ There is a folder call com.something but its related to adobe air, then reboot. And then you can install Adobe Air from scratch.
PS: yes, I can reboot again after re-installing Adobe Air since this time the app is installed as data app.

Thank you for the response. Can you tell me what is it that I'll do in the /system/lib/com.Adobe folder? should I make a backup and delete it?
It should be safe to delete, because when the new one install, those file will be at /data/data/com.adobe.air/lib. Well, I guess the old folder name is /system/lib/com.adobe.air then.

Sad to say, I went ahead and deleted /system/lib/com.adobe.air and rebooted to the dreaded 8-reboot cycle and full restore of the HD+.......
I guess we know now deleting that folder is a no-no......

Actually, no. Mine is deleted. It must be something else that cause you that 8 bootloop. Let me make it clear. I used titanium to uninstall adobe air, then remove /system/lib/com.adobe.air reboot then install new version of air from play store.

Yup, that's exactly what I did....without the installing the new version of adobe air, since I'm rebuilding to that point.

vlavix,
Do you have Kindle Fire HD Software 7.2.3? If yes, all you do is
pull down the upper Status Bar, choose More, then select
Applications, next select App Settings, choose:
"Automatic Updates" Uncheck Enable Automatic Updates
Next open Droidwall. Check everything Kindle. When you
want to install an application from Google Play,
you will have to allow the "Download Manager"
but this does open the door to updates. Just
remove the otacerts.zip file, this does work
and does not add more running applications.
This file can be found:
/system/etc/security/otacerts.zip
Thank you so much, that was just what i was looking for°°°

Youtube not working after root

After installing the universal root for my Nook HD, Youtube no longer opens. I am on stock 2.2.0 and also have the side load installation activated. When I try to open Youtube I get a message stating, "Unfortunately, YouTube has stopped.". I tried clearing clearing the application cache and data, uninstalling the Youtube updates, deleting Youtube with root explorer and then reinstalling it from the playstore and I have reset the Nook many times. Should I wipe the cache and dalvik cache in recovery? I saw someone on the Kindle Fire HD thread mention reinstalling loginservices.apk, but I can't find it on my Nook. Does anyone know of a solution to this? Thanks!

On configure apps page you must choose the browser you want to use. If you only have chrome installed it will allways say chrome by default

Not sure it will work, but give it a try.
In developer options change webview to stock.
It sets to chrome when chrome is installed.
Maybe it. Will work
