I have a friend's ATT Galaxy S5 which she can't remember her passcode/pin so she can't access the phone. Is there a way to either reset or bypass the code without doing a complete factory reset? I have tried doing it online from Android Device Manager, it doesn't work I don't think they set it up. The problem is that she wants to save a few pictures that are stored in the INTERNAL MEMORY of the phone and she doesn't want to lose them. I can't even load a custom recovery right because of the locked bootloader. Again, all she needs is to save the pictures in the internal partition of phone before doing a factory reset. Is there a way to do it ?
Did she try taking it into the ATT store?

Yes she tried the ATT store and Samsung store @ Best Buy. Stupid AT&T and their locked boot loaders.

I'm trying to unlock my AT&T captivate to use prepaid tmobile...while I do have a unlock working now its just by use of an app from the market so I have to redo the unlock each time the phone reboots....I have tries two different one click unlock era with no luck and just now tried doing this method
http://androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/155056-possible-unlock-captivate-free.html (sorry..I wanted to post the adb commands but I'm on an iPhone ATM....
This also did not work. It wouldn't generate the output file at all. I made sure I had debugging on and my phone is rooted running Mosaic 8. Can anyone help me?
Use Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz from the Play Store (free). Once unlocked-always unlocked. --Athough u may have to go back to a Stock firmware first (not sure). But once u r done, no matter what u flash, Odin, etc. it will stay unlocked.

I am in the same boat and wondering if you were successful in unlocking captivate and using prepaid T-Mobile card.
I heard we can only use it in edge mode and the 3g will not work with T-Mobile. Is that true?

Ooops on the thx but oh well.
True on the Edge...But there are some areas where tmobile is reworking their network and making 3g available. Google search will reveal more info on tmobile's revamping.

If you unlock the bootloader EVERYTHING will be deleted. You can backup everything to Dropbox prior to unlocking and then restore it afterwards. Make sure you are connected to WiFi though otherwise you could end up with a large bill.

the NB4 build for the Note 3 was released near the end of February, but i still havent received the update on my Note 3.
I am on stock 4.3 (MJ5), unlocked with an Aio sim card (dont have access to an AT&T one).
If anyone has any ideas or can provide a way for me to update manually it would be much appreciated!
You will have to have an AT&T SIM to pull it OTA.
Or... I believe you can use Kies to get it as well.

Aww looks like I gotta go to an att store, Kies says it's up to date. One good thing about Apple was software updates aren't carrier specific.
There is nothing good about Apple.
AT&T will probably not upgrade it. If you have a friend with a SIM from AT&T, just pop it in and you should be able to update.

Shouldn't he get it since AIO is running on the AT&T network? I get all the AT&T N3 updates on my device using a Straight Talk AT&T sim card.

well i just tried to use my brother's AT&T sim (he has an HTC 8X, I think), my phone registered AT&T as network, still shows "Software is up to Date". I dont think the AT&T card is necessary, and sadly I can't get this update through Kies as its an OTA only. odin maybe?
contacted AT&T by phone, told me the latest was MJ5. Contacted AIO and they made a support. Sounds like its back to roms.....well at least safestrap "roms" not actual ones. Should I just root and get safestrap or wait it out for NB4? (if i should go the safestrap route, any good roms on 4.4?)

If you don't mind wiping your phone you can download the OTA file to your external SD, change the extension to .zip and flash it from recovery. Doing so that way will factory reset and wipe your internal storage, but it works. Whether or not it's worth the trouble of backing everything up then restoring it may or may not be another matter though.
Is there away I can root this phone without having to factory reset it? I was kinda spoiled by Odin when I was with the galaxy line. Just one click flash and done. I was hoping HTC had something similar but I haven't found it yet.

in order to root it, you have to start by unlocking your bootloader through htcdev. this wipes your phone, there's no way I know to get around it.
you could back up all your stuff first. Helium (carbon) is the only app I know of that can backup your app+data, sms, etc without root:

HTC Backup also does a surprisingly good job of backing everything up and restoring it after a reset.
I second the HTC Backup. Link it to Drive or Dropbox and let it do a full backup. When you are setting up the phone again, log back into HTC Backup and choose to restore a previous backup. It will re-install 98% of your apps and will restore lots of settings like wifi routers that you've saved and even restore your Sense homescreen, including widgets.
I was experiencing problems with my rooted mj5 so i used that popular thread on how to revert to stock mj5. Everything went smooth, but im still having the bootloop problems. The custom lock logo is gone on bootup so i know its true stock mj5 now, but my loader hangs on the ATT animation logo for a bit then keeps restarting. This process goes on and off for a few times until it manages to pull itself through. Should i call ATT for a replacement or is this fixable?
Went into recovery mode and cleared cach - didnt work

f*ck.

This. I've reverted back to mj5 multiple times and never got into a bootloop. Don't take it back to AT&T for your mess up. That's fraud.

As i stated above the factory reset does not work. I noticed the main problem was coming from the sd card slot. It doesnt matter what sd card is in there, it will cause the phone to lose signal and enter a weird bootloop. A few hours ago i re installed mj5 and did every step to get a 100% new stock again. The 16gb and 32gb class 10 sd card will cause my phone problems. The main problems are bootloops and if i go to make a call, the service bar will turn to an O with a slash until i end the call so i can not call anyone while my sd card is installed.
Im considering just updating to kitkat and if it has problems from there then i know the phone has hardware issues, then off to AT&T it goes...
