Hi Everyone,
I'm torn between buying one of the two super phones: Samsung Galaxy Note and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Google Nexus Prime.
I've done some research using Google about the phones.
ht tp://ww w.androidauthority. com/galaxy-note-vs-galaxy-s2-vs-galaxy-nexus-the-best-of-the-best-32011/
ht tp:/ /social-catalog. com/samsung-galaxy-note-vs-google-nexus-prime
ht tp:/ /versusio. com/en/google-nexus-prime-vs-samsung-galaxy-note
It is my understanding that the Note is superior from what I have understood:
1. Bigger Screen of the Note makes it really awesome visually
2. Marginally better resolution for the Note as well
3. MUCH longer battery life on the Note although it said it is because of the screen size which begs me to ask: does that mean in effect it will be the same as the Nexus Prime's?
4. Note will also get upgraded to ICS
5. Note and NP have both got great screens - Super AMOLED
6. Galaxy Note has a better camera
7. Galaxy Note does or does not have a MICRO SD slot? I have read mixed reports on this. But, I am assuming both have that option of expandable memory. Am I correct?
Given all this I am concluding that the Note is a much better phone.
Am I right? Or am I missing something crucial? I don't "have" to buy a phone right now so is there another better phone with quad core coming out? I don't want to buy the phone and then 2 months later or in Q2 2012 have a new Quad core phone come out.
What do you guys think?
Please help me out here
Of course it has Micro SD slot..
And you are missing one of the best part.. THE "S PEN"
If u keep waiting for somthing better,u'll never able to buy anything..and the nexus is just better than the note in term of being a bit more compact than the note...if you want to buy a good phone buy the galaxy note...update to latest custom firmware and you get an ultimate device...mine iz coming day aftr tommorow..yipeee

Yes, I forgot about that. I just presumed I'd lose the S Pen because it will fall out all the time.
I have a question: Is the battery life good? Right now I'm using the SGS1 and I need to charge my battery 2-3 times a day. I use it for calls, texts, whatsapp, gtalk and a bunch of other apps including OfficeSuite, etc. What do you think?

This is true: there is no need to keep waiting for something new. I just wanted to know if something new WAS around the corner Thank you for your help.
Nothing new around except the quad core acer tablet which mayb launched in near future...and we expected some quad core phones at ces 2012 but nthing like dat..so u can go for the galaxy note
If you take away ICS from the galaxy nexus i think it is a mediocre phone in comparison with the note.
The note has the better hardware and specs and when receiving ICS the difference will only get bigger!

About the battery life, with calls, texts, whatsapp, gtalk and a bunch of other apps including OfficeSuite it will last a day.
Intensive use such as Internet browsing in 3G: 9 hours.

Okay. This is important to note and I'm fine with 9 hours. LOL...When I use all this on my SGS1, the battery lasts 2-3 hours and then it's time to charge. Most annoying.
Thank you everyone. I think my decision is made. I'm buying it as soon as I get my paycheck

I had the GSM Galaxy Nexus prior to selling for the Note. Had the GNEX had Gingerbread on it people would be *****ing up a storm. ICS is neat but can't fix the average hardware of the GNEX. The Note is superior in every way.

Not true. Both screens are 800x1280 SAMOLED PenTile displays. The larger 5.3" screen on the Note actually makes for a lower overall PPI compared to the GNexus though. That said, the absence of hardware buttons on the GNexus means that you have less usable screen real estate most of the time. So, in that sense, yes, the GNote does have a higher resolution (as far as what you can actually use most of the time).

Don't have any hands-on experience with the GNexus, so I can't speak for that of course, but I CAN say that the GNote's battery performance is much better than I expected it to be. Suffice to say, it's way better than my old SGS2 if that helps any.

It would seem to be a very poor business decision on the part of Samsung if they didn't (eventually) release an official ICS update. In the mean time, the good people over on the CyanogenMod team have been working hard at providing us with an AOSP ROM in the form of CM9. It's in an early Alpha build stage for now, but knowing them, it'll only continue to get better! Patience is the key here.

Not only does it HAVE a micro SD slot, but apparently it can take bigger than 32GB cards as well (provided you format them to FAT32 first!)

Here's my advice:
The Note is a fantastic device, hands down. If you want it, get it. If you don't want it, don't get it. There will ALWAYS be something newer and better sometime down the road, be it one month from now, or six, or whenever. So you may as well get what you want, when you want it, and enjoy it while you have it.
Even though quad-core phones may be right around the corner, the 1.4ghz Exynos chip is no slouch by any means. In fact, I would go so far as to say that there simply is no better dual-core chip on the market today that beats it all around. Exynos really is best-in-class as it is.
But, in the end, it's your money, and your choice!
I was in the same exact dilemma and ended up with both the Note and Nexus. After one day of using the Nexus, I am selling it and keeping the Note.
Battery life is very subjective, I'd have to say the Note SEEMS better, but to be sure I have a spare battery handy. No use owning an awesome phone if you turn off its key features, huh?
I actually like the zero lag camera on the Nexus, but the produced shots are not as good as the shots I make on the Note. And if I missed it, I didn't see a "macro" focus option on the Nexus- this is important to me.
The Note doubles as a tablet for me. Ater using the Note for the past several weeks, I just find the Nexus' screen estate too small. If you compare the Nexus' screen area to the GS2, they end up the same because of the onscreen buttons of the Nexus that takes up space.
Don't get me wrong- the Nexus by itself is a superior phone, in my opinion. It seems ICS was truly made for this phone- no lags when I was using it, multi tasking on ICS is easier, and of course, it is easier to carry in your hand due to the smaller size.
In fact, if I could truly afford to keep both phones, I would- the Nexus is often viewed as a novelty phone because of its exclusivity with Google, and the plain vanilla experience of ICS. I hope that the ICS version for the Note won't be too bastardized, because the ICS I experienced on the Nexus is by far, the best OS I have ever used on a phone.
Still- I ended up with the Note. No regrets- and loving the device more each day! Hope this helps you. Let us know what you decide.
I suppose I forgot to mention in my previous post, but the compromise you make with getting a Nexus device is that you may not have the absolute cutting edge hardware, but you will always be first in line for the most cutting edge software from Google.
Take your pick! ):
Wow, you guys are simply awesome!!!!
I'm sorry I'm taking so long to respond.

Unfortunately it is only available in german (with spanish subtitle i think?!?!)
NO, I had both devices and just gave the nexus prime back and hold the note.
If you will wait for a better phone, you will never own one.
Go to a store where both are available and touch the devices and if you don't have a problem with the big size of the note, choose the note
It is better anyway, in my opinion the note is better on every point
no the sd-card slot is only on the note, not on the nexus
Just curious if anyone had the ATT Galaxy S4 earlier, and moved up to the Note 3 ? What are the differences, besides the obvious larger screen ?
- Battery life a ton better, or just little bit better ?
- Screen size hard to get used to on the N3, compared to the smaller S4 ?
- With the N3 being a 4.3 based OS, and also 3GB RAM & Snapdragon 800, is the N3 smooth and lag free ? My S4 feels a bit laggy here and there.
- Can the Note 3 still be pocketed easily, or hard to fit ? And no, I don't wear skinny jeans.
- Overall if you had the S4, and now the Note 3 was it a worthy upgrade ?
Thanks

- I'm not saying battery life is just a little bit better, ... it is better. But someone already tested its battery life saying it gives them 11 hours watching only movies before the screen goes off.
- The size is not that hard to get used to if youre using the S4 right now.
- I'm using stock ROM on my Note 3, so lag is something that you will expect to have with stock ROMs.
- Yes, it is pocketed easily
- It is a worth upgrade
the thing that I like about it is the S pen. It is really cool . I think thats what sets it aside from all products out there.
I agree, I get twice the battery life with n3 than I did with my s4. 3 ram is awesome screen is awesome. I personally see no lag. The main thing for me was 26gb storage compared to 8gb I had on s4.

I didnt have the ATT S4 but i did have the sprint verison and EVERYTHING about the Note 3 is better to me. And the size isnt as big as you would think it would be. If its your first note then ofcourse it will take a couple of days to get used to the size but after that every other phone actually looks really tiny not because your phone is huge or anything but you just get used to the feeling of the phone.
I switched from the S4 to the Note 3. My first time ever paying retail for a phone. It was simply that much better and to my liking. Every phone has its ups and downs. For me, I switched for the bigger screen, S-Pen, sleek design, more memory, 32gb storage, faster processor... and because I crave the latest and greatest. The battery life ended up being incredible. A huge upgrade from the S4.
Def worth upgrade... battery is WAY better.. screen is brighter... more ram.

I upgraded and love it. I wanted a device that was both, as I was tired of having a tablet and a phone. The note sits perfectly right in the middle.
Battery life is amazing.
i updated. had the note 2, went to the s3, then the s4, and now the note 3. took a couple days to get used to screen size again, but now i am in love with it. i do a lot of reading and browsing on my phone now and days, also watch tv shows and movies on it. the screen size has been awesome. and battery is even better. i spent most of last sunday watching football on my direct tv sunday ticket app. lasted pretty much the ENTIRE day, even had juice to spare when i was done with it.
im still not rooted yet.. disabled a lot of the bloat through the built in manage apps settings. would like to make use of my TiBu, but am waiting for a solid root option.
thinking if i should update with the recent update that just came out.
I updated and rooted with kingo

I had an S3, Note2, S4, and now to the Note3.
I didn't like the N2 because of the 720 screen, and the S4 'fixed' that for me. The S4 is awesome, but I missed the big size of the Note3. I don't use the S pen at all.
I have both but I say s4 camera is better
(and the rest is perfect imo for the note3) I compared them especially night shots, s4 shots are more black and crisp compared to note3s noisy/washed out pictures (night), I don't know maybe its just their ppi counts because s4 ppi is higher than the note3 I believe

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 that I got at launch. I came from a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and I was eager to try out a smaller phone after being on the Samsung Galaxy Note series since they came out. After being on the Galaxy S6, I can tell you that I miss a few things. First thing I miss is the larger screen size of the Note. I don't miss the stylus though as I never used it. I really do like wireless charging of the S6, but I am tiring very much of the lack of root on the Samsung devices.
All these things said, I have been looking at the Nexus 6 for a while now. It just seems like a great fit to me, and I have a buddy upgrade available on one of my family lines. I am concerned with the horsepower on the Nexus 6 though. It isn't that old in comparison to the S6, but maybe it isn't an issue after all. Anyone here move from a Samsung device over to the Nexus 6? I am on Verizon if it matters.

I moved from a S6 to a Nexus 6. Loved the camera on the S6 and the screen was very crisp as well. Honestly i hated not being on a stock android. There was lag everywhere. switching apps would take a while and if you installed a theme from the theme store it would be unusable at times. I got a good deal on the Nexus 6 also picked up a 64 gb version. Theres no lag while playing games either. It does heat up a little while doing some intense gaming , but thats nowhere close to how hot the S6 got from time to time. It will be the first to get the Android M update in a few months time. If you are comfortable with a big screen i thing you will love this device. Only thing i miss is the camera on the S6. Rest the nexus 6 on 5.1.1 is as good as it gets. Im sure people on Verizon would have had similar experience.

Besides the camera and the IR blaster you will not miss annything trust me I had the S6 for 4 days and sold it to use my N6 again. The lag, Touchwizz, bloatware and KNOX we`re too much for me and i will never again buy a Samsung device. I love the Nexus`s and especialy the N6 (size, stereo speakers).
Don`t think you will be sorry, but it takes a few days too get used to the the size but once you do you can`t go back to a small screen.
Thanks for your comments.
I made a short list of things that I missed about the Note series when I was on it and what I did and didn't miss. One of those things is the screen size. After being on large phablet phones for a while, I thought a downgrade on size would be worth trying out. That was a mistake. The stock android experience is something I am starting to miss as well. I have a Google Nexus 7 and I love this tablet. So easy to use and the stock android is pretty darn nice. Lastly, rooting would be nice to go back to but it isn't a huge deal. I have Foxfi which handles most of my rooting issues, but it would be nice to install adblock and other rooted apps. I don't know if I would use a different kernel. Samsung's stance on rooting is really pissing me off to no end.
Now that I saw the Google Nexus 6 lounge, I regret not putting this there. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Thanks for your input. The size isn't a big deal to me. I miss the larger size of my Note 3 right now. I took the chance that maybe I would like a smaller phone with this S6 upgrade, and I didn't mind the size at first but now I am missing my larger phone. I really also don't want to go after a Samsung Note 5 either. I would wait 2 months for the Note 5 and I am not sold on the stylus nor the design of the device. Plus, the locking down of the Samsung device really does piss me off even more so now.
Oh, and I don't even use the IR blaster.
I really want to move to a phablet that isn't Samsung based for a change and the Nexus 6 appears to be my final destination.
There are a few things the S6 does better the the Nexus 6, I just switched back to the N6 after having the S6 since launch:
1 - It is snappier when doing data write intensive tasks. Unfortunately I like to have my devices encrypted so I pay the price on snappiness when downloading or installing apps with the Nexus 6
2 - The screen is a lot better. It is crisper (size/ppi) but it is also higher quality. Better accuracy, brightness... I could go on for days. The Nexus 6 is comparable to the Note 3 screen in accuracy and brightness (I had a Note 3 and 4 in the past)
3 - The camera is a ton better, no real comparison. The Nexus 6 has a good camera, possibly bordering on great its just not the outstanding that the S6/G4 are.
Otherwise when it comes to software and such it is amazing. I am running the M preview and am happy as a lark.

These are good things to know. A couple questions though.
Do you encrypt in case your phone is stolen?
Did you move back to the Nexus 6 because of the larger screen and/or was it the stock android OS?

Do you encrypt in case your phone is stolen?
Did you move back to the Nexus 6 because of the larger screen and/or was it the stock android OS?

I encrypt for a couple of reasons, Stolen is one of them.
Yeah stock Android is the main reason. I also really missed my big phone. I went from a Note 3 to Nexus 5 to M8 to Nexus 6 to Note 4 to S6 and while the S6 is the best phone I have ever owned and the Note 4 the best large phone, the software just didnt do it for me.
Android 5.0+ is just too beautiful to be hidden all the time by crappy skins or broken animations. I enjoyed some of Samsungs changes, like the allowing of a single non-play store app at a time without having to set Unknown Sources to always on, multi-window, app bubble things and a few others.
My wife has the S6, which is why I went with the N6. Love it. I love the lack of bloatware. S6 has the camera going for it, but that's all.
A lot of Samsung's extra features I really didn't take advantage of. The app bubbles were pretty nice, but I didn't like multi-window. It just wasn't that useful to me.
I placed an order for my Nexus 6 about 10 minutes ago. Back to stock android I go. I am going to update the phone and then root this sucker for sure. From what I have been reading, it isn't hard to do.
This is why I sold my ATT S6 and bought a Nexus 6. When will the S6 get Marshmallow? My guess is
sometime first qtr next year if your lucky.
Also the Ram management on the Nexus 6 is unreal, consistently 1.8 - 2.1 gb free ram.
On the S6 lucky to have .9-1 gb free ram.
For those interested Amazon has a blow out sale, you can get a brand new just made Nexus 6
- 64 gb for 399.00. This is a steal. My production date was 9/15/2015 so I think they are close to selling out.

Sorry, can't deal with the crap camera, second-rate screen, and poor hardware just to get an update that will probably introduce some new bugs. I like to let the nexus users be the testers, so I have no problems waiting for a more stable build. The 5.1.1 update on my AT&T S6 is smooth and lag-free and I'm happy.

I've got both phones. I'm running M developer preview 3 and my Nexus 6 feels just as snappy as the S6 on 5.1.1. I'm not a gamer so I can't say what the difference is there. A couple of the apps I use aren't ready for M yet but it's no big deal. I keep going back between phones, I can't decide which I like better
I'd love to be able to run vanilla android on my S6 without tripping knox and such. The AT&T and Samsung bloatware is annoying
I bought the nexus 6 awhile back but returned it because I didn't expect living with a 6" phone was that crazy. I loved the speaker output and the fast updates but it just wasn't for me. Right now I'm running my AT&T Nokia Lumia 830 with Denim update and S6 rooted. Pretty happy with the s6 so far and battery life. Wished the speaker was louder after owning too many HTC phones.

I use package disabler pro, disable what I don't want, and move on. The 'bloat' never comes back again, even after OTAs. So sorry if I don't quite understand the bloatware issue.

I will never understand this argument. I had a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 7 for two years and never once felt like a "beta tester" on either of them (except when running preview builds, obviously). In fact, I rue the day I gave my Nexus 4 to my mother to replace it with a Galaxy S5, because despite the theoretically vastly superior hardware of the latter, it felt slower in almost every way. Yet for some reason, I screwed up and gave Samsung one more chance when I sold my S5 to "upgrade" to an S6 Active, and despite again a significant SoC upgrade and an extra gigabyte of RAM, it somehow seems to hold even fewer applications in RAM than the already awful showing the S5 put up in that regard. The S6 stutters constantly when scrolling in Chrome, apps and tabs are ejected from RAM constantly, the sheer amount of bloat in the stock install causes the system partition to eat up over twice the space it does on Nexus devices (and no amount of disabling apps will ever free that back up), and if you don't reboot every couple of days the whole things slows to an unusable crawl. This has been going on since launch, and since I had the audacity to not want to give up the durability and battery capacity of the S5 I was "upgrading" from, apparently I get to eat **** and wait even longer for this mythical 5.1.1 update to maybe someday materialize and hopefully at least fix the atrocious memory management - 9 months after it arrived on Nexus devices and counting! But I mean yeah, the camera I use maybe once a month is really great, aside from the atrocious UI of course.
I have the Nexus 5 running the preview build of Marshmallow and it is definitely allot smoother than my S6 in apps like Chrome and Google+.
If I had the $$ and didn't have to pay the monthly Next fee for the S6, I would upgrade to the 5X.

Well the 5.1.1 build that was finally released for my S6 Edge is quite stable and works very well, it's a massive improvement over 5.0.2 and I am very happy we finally got it. Unfortunately we probably won't see 6.0 anytime soon. If I had to guess I'd imagine we will continue to see security updates every 1-2 months, maybe 1 big update while still on 5.1.1 to add AT&T specific features like the rumored WiFi calling and in 4-6 months we'll get 6.0.2 or whatever is out by then. As great as the hardware is on my S6 Edge, Samsung really still needs to work on further refining the software and reducing the touchwiz codebase to something more manageable. Things will improve slowly I believe as Google adds various features like themes and multi-window which will cut down on the work Samsung has to do but this won't happen for a bit still as 6.0 only has experimental theme and multi-window support. The big problem though still resides in carriers and the bloat/modifications they made to the OS that Samsung has provided, there was no reason it should have taken this long to get 5.1.1 and yes we got a very solid build and the first builds released with 5.1.1 did have issues, however those were fixed months ago. When my AT&T Next contract is up I will plan on waiting for whatever the new Nexus phone is at the time and upgrade to that or I will be going to the unlocked international version of whatever flagship Samsung has released, I am just done with waiting on carriers for updates.
Then that's my point folks. If updates matter that much to you, then you already know which phone to buy. For those of us who want more out of our phones besides just updates that's why we look to other OEMs.

One huge thing is the Ram management on the Nexus 6 vs the S6. On the Nexus 6 the apps switch between each other with no delay at all. Also I notice that in the settings----apps----running apps free ram is anywhere from 1.8 - 2.1 on the Nexus 6. On the S6 its .9 - 1.2 max. On the S6 we all know apps are shutting down completely and hesitating on the relaunch. On the Nexus 6 there is no delay when switching.
Also there is no comparison on battery life, I am at currently at 24 hrs with 47% battery left.
Another huge thing that I noticed was radio reception for the cell towers. I am getting 4 bars in my home on the Nexus 6 vs 2-3 bars on the S6. Also today at one of my clients on my S6 inside tha facility I had no or barely 1 bar reception. With the Nexus 6 I was getting 3-4 bars solid. The radios inside the Motorola device are superior to any other cell phone I have had including the iphone.

Your Nexus 6 having more free RAM has nothing to do with superior RAM management, nor is it necessarily the reason the Nexus feels smoother. More likely it has less in memory because compared to the S6 it's a very slim operating system. Google Android RAM management. TL;DR--free RAM is wasted RAM, even on a Nexus device.

Its a known fact the ram management on the Galaxy devices are terrible. Maybe its the Touchwiz. I owned the S6 for 4 months so believe me I am not making this up. The Nexus 6 feels smoother even with a bigger display and less powerful processor.

RAM management has been much improved in 5.1.1, with no hesitation in switching between apps.
The S6 and Nexus 6 are about the same on battery (I believe the S6 does a little better, not sure). Gotta look at the battery benchmarks again.
Motorola does make good radios I agree, but my S6 has given me no problems as far as reception even in places that kill radio signals.
For me the nexus is not worth it for just the updates. My S6 does everything I need it too with good battery, excellent performance, and top of the line camera, screen, and build quality. I'm glad you're enjoying your nexus 6 though, it's a decent phone.

You missed my point. Available RAM is not an appropriate measure of Android RAM management. You may not be making things up, but you likewise may not fully understand what you're seeing.

What does screen size have to do with anything? The screen resolution is identical
It really isn't anything new for a Samsung on AT&T to be locked down tight, root nearly unobtainable, and slow to receive updates. Anyone expecting otherwise is either a dreamer or did t do their research.
< love my S6 and Tab S on AT&T... Locked bootloaders and slow updates and all...

"Free ram is wasted ram" is pretty much universal for all computing devices.
Right now I'm sitting at 1.4gb used by the System, 747mb used for apps and 454mb free ram. I'm on 5.1.1 and it feels so much more responsive and snappy than it did. Little to no hesitation when switching apps, and I haven't seen the homescreen get re-drawn yet. I also haven't had any issues with BT audio pausing and restarting itself (I assume samsung's task killer was fighting with Poweramp)

Marshmallow 6.0 will bring a 30% battery increase on Nexus 6 devices! Now The S6 needs this desperately.
Maybe mid next year if at all.

Whoa ... The 830 does get denim? I got the 830 in November when the phone was recently announced as shipping with Denim. Then sat for 7 months of no Netflix, a camera that took great pictures if you could ever get it to load, while being told the real denim update was "coming soon." Tried all the Windows 10 previews with mixed results.
I finally had enough and paid to get onto the S6 before my 12 month NEXT plan was ready. Haven't looked back.

Love my Tab S but thinking on upgrading in the near future. What do you guys think is a honorable replacement?
Nothing.
There does not exist a comparable replacement. The Android tablet market made about three steps back since the Tab S series were released. Seriously.

Totally agree!! Tab s 8.4 is my tablet for years now. I am bothered that I can't find a perfect rom for it to flash (some things do not work on each rom) but no matter how ofter I search for a replacement, I always go back to my conclusion: There is no tablet like this! And sometimes I wonder why Samsung made such a GREAT table THAT early. Even the next ones (Tab S2, S3 etc) are not THAT much of a leap forward. Either poor battery, or lower screen quality, or no IR etc etc... So currently I stick with my beloved Tab S 8.4.
Now...to find a new rom......

Well, S3 was a big leap forward in terms of SoC, but with its 600 dollar MSRP, what a poor value it was. And the S4 was good, but pricing completely mad. For that much money I can buy an entry level business class ultrabook. Tablet is great for media consumption, reading, and entertainment, but let's admit it's kind of a toy, it's not a business tool, and for what they offered the successive Tab S-line models were ridiculously overpriced. My Tab S 8.4 does feel kind of slow and I guess I could replace it when I see a tablet for better specs that's priced right, perhaps a heavily discounted Tab S4 during the holidays.

Well, for me a tablet IS a business tool as I use it twice a week (or more) for talks and presentations. And furthermore I like the 8.4" size and am not fond of bigger screens. Unfortunately Samsung doesn't release any decent small-sized tablets anymore. All the good stuff (RAM, CPU etc) exist on the bigger S3, S4, S5. The 8-inch-sized S and S2 were the only ones that did the trick for me. And currently upgrading to an S2 is not a good idea I believe. My (older) S 8.4 has better screen resolution, bigger battery, IR support... So yeah, I stick with it, for a little while at least. I really hope Samsung releases a smaller Tab S5 or (future) S6 (If that is even a thing) on a 8" form factor. I would really like to upgrade this sometime. Until then, it is the best table I ever had. Not gonna change it.

I replaced my T-800 with the Tab S4 when Best Buy was blowing them out at $260 or less this past Christmas.
While my Tab S was very sexy and I had the Logitech Type S keyboard I loved it very much it was a no brainer upgrading at that point.
Here is my thread explaining the $260 sale:
https://slickdeals.net/f/13607677-s...-s4-64gb-tablet-wi-fi-black-260-in-store-ymmv
I would expect the S6 is about to go on deep discount soon so I would be on the look out if you're in the market for a new Samsung Tab.
I just sold off my T-800 in perfect shape, I do plan to hold onto my T-700 as Samsung just does not make sexiness like that any longer.
Hi guys I recently tried to understand whether it was possible to replace my Tab S 8.4 LTE and... I'm astonished. Android tablets are dead. I paid 350€ for this tablet at launch so taking into account 6 years of technological development I was expecting to find at the same price the following specs: 64-128gb of storage, 8gb of ram, same screen since oled technology had some troubles advancing, modern high end processor, a camera with not necessarily more pixels but with less noise and more details, no IR because we don't use TVs anymore.
What I found instead was: crappy low end overpriced tablets, with barely any ram, and no advancements whatsoever in productivity applications. The obvious choice would be to go for an x86 Windows tablet... But I don't dare to run Windows with less than 16gb of ram (any browser uses 5-6gb of ram to begin with with my usage scenario) and onestly those tablets have poor battery life and there are no small tablets to begin with. This leaves only the ipad mini... Which I had terrible experience with (ipad mini 2 was dropped from support and update very quickly and became slow as hell with the last updates it received).
Do you guys have any suggestion? Huaway is out of the question... I don't want to be caught in a stupid useless war.
There is no suitable replacement. I use mine as a phone and there is just nothing with as large a display that has an earpiece that you can hold up to your face and make calls with. I now own 3, 2 working, so I have spare parts as bits break.
Actually that is a usage scenario that happened a couple of times. My phone was temporarily down (anything from a bricked rom to a simply drained battery) and I always simply took the sim out of it, stuck into the tablet and continued my day with no problems whatsoever. Before buying this tablet I was super into the Asus transformer line. A phone that you insert in a screen that becomes a tablet with additional battery life, then you attach the keyboard and bump in terms of productivity. They where unreasonably costly to begin with had bad software support, and super died probably because the company got more money selling separate devices. I tried to create my own version of it with a raspberry pi but it was obviously very clunky.
hi you all!
i have been researching about this subejct and found this thread...
i was also looking into replacing my 8 inch tab S tablet but havent found anything good out there... and i thought tablets were getting better and better each release... like cellhphones...
seems like the 8 inchers are forgotten by the manufacturers... its sad...
my tablet works, sometimes i think it is slow... i guess i keep on comparing to my cell galaxy s10e...
i have the ORIGINAL keyboard that locks into the tablet... i loved this keyboard since it came out! such an awesome design...

Hi There is no replacement to our beloved tablet except for the Huawei Mediapad. Chuwi does make a very compelling android tablet with keyboard... but it is way bigger than the Tab S 8.4.
If you don't mind a slightly shorter screen-on time with your current battery you can change the CPU governor to something more performing. That coupled with a thermal mod gave a totally new life to my tablet (I was close to trashing it before these 2 things together). Now its running so great that I'm tempted to buy a new battery ( or 2 batteries hacked up together) and go on with it for a couple more years.

Hi yes I'm using the latest Lineage OS Deathly (android 7.1). The rom is probably close to its EOL since there is much less activity and updates. ROM. I've undervolted the tab and put an aluminium bar on the SOC to stop it from overheating... I would not describe the experience as high end but it's way better than before. The same developer made roms also for the WIFi only model and for the 2 bigger models.
