Support for headset with 3-button and mic. ? - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i have and old headset with 3 button and really like to change music and answer calls with it so cool, but stock ROM doesn't work with my headset only the sound.. The question is this hardware related or this support can be implemented in a rom. Is there a dev to answer a question?

Well, Moto decided to not support anything above 1 button headsets. I wrote 2 patches related to that few months ago but due to them being too hacky I didn't merge them.
They require rebuilding the kernel so it's not like "add x.yz file to /system/me/me/".

It works just fine.. you can use speakerphone with just about any VOIP carrier. There's no earpiece so everything is on speakerphone. I don't care to spend any time enabling carrier calling.

That is a little pity..

AOSP doesn't support AVRCP 1.13 which is the version that introduced metadata support. Until it does, custom ROMs the devs have added it to are the only one's that'll display song/album/artist.
Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
This profile is designed to provide a standard interface to control TVs, Hi-fi equipment, etc. to allow a single remote control (or other device) to control all of the A/V equipment to which a user has access. It may be used in concert with A2DP or VDP.
It has the possibility for vendor-dependent extensions.
AVRCP has several versions with significantly increasing functionality:
1.0—Basic remote control commands (play/pause/stop, etc.)
1.3—all of 1.0 plus metadata and media-player state support The status of the music source (playing, stopped, etc.)
Metadata information on the track itself (artist, track name, etc.).
1.4—all of 1.0, 1.3, plus media browsing capabilities for multiple media players Browsing and manipulation of multiple players
Browsing of media metadata per media player, including a "Now Playing" list
Basic search capabilitieshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_profile

As far as I know, no n4 custom rom supports it until today. Google will most likely never update it, don't know what the heck they are thinking.
it's such an elementary feature. Can't believe it's not integrated....This really makes me mad.

What do you mean no custom ROM supports it?
I was waiting for someone to confirm if AVRCP 1.3 was going to be added in android 4.2.2 but now I'm planning on rooting and getting a ROM that does support this...
This is my most wanted bug fix for android 4.2.2, and I can't believe they missed it. Shame on Google.

I completely agree
Does anyone know of a stable mod that does have AVRCP 1.3?
I'm glad that I am not the only one^^
Please share this bug report as often as possible in other forums. Maybe if enough ppl will star this google will react - MAYBE^^

This was the main reason I was looking forward to the update...now, I'm sad. Guess I'm going to be forced to root now...anyone know when any of the ROMs will add this much needed feature?

That's all I was looking forward to also.
Its no wonder companies ignore their users when they needlessly and wrongly report bugs for something which is clearly not a bug.
If I was Google I'd ignore every single bug report which was actually reporting a missing feature.
For whatever reason, Google left it out, probably because its a niche requirement. It's not a bug.
thank god ur not google
maybe it's not the right category but at least I did something to point out that there's a problem and gave other ppl the chance to express their madness about this problem aswell.
And a niche? C'mon this is absolute standard nowadays and we can expect this from a 2012 smartphone when even my 2010 i9000 had it!

no, its software.
Heres to hoping they fix the low headset volume, and High BT volume experienced on some headsets (that last one is my biggest gripe with the phone)
turkishness -> In my Nexus 5 I haven't got the same sound volume concerning the SMS and when I play a video. I think (hope ) it's software issue
Now we just need to wait for the rollout to start and for some nice chap to post the ota zip and then we can all sideload it right away.
I think the sound problem is software, they just won't let us turn it up loud enough.

Headset mic way too sensitive

Hi All,
Got the Z1 last week about 9 dates ago as a replacement for a Samsung Galaxy S3. Generally liking it, though struggling to get used to the size of the handset. One major issue, though that I can't easily sort or find an answer to anywhere.
Basically, when I use a wired headset with inline mic for phone calls, the microphone is way too sensitive. It picks up every movement of the headphone cord, every rustle on my clothes, etc. Tried about 5 different headsets, including a dedicated Android one button Sennheiser headset. All the same. None of these proved a problem with
Anyone any ideas on what's causing it or how to fix it? Is there something simple I'm missing? It's making calls a painful experience.
Thanks in anticipation.

Nope. In one case, the headphones/headset goes back as far as an IPhone 4, so about three years ago. This is the first time I've had the issue with any of them.

Tried that. No change. S3 better than this? In this respect only. V pleased to see the back of the S3, as it constantly had firmware issues, caused, no doubt. Random battery life issues (sometimes lasting a day, sometimes a few hours), crashes, screen redraw issues, glitchy music playback. I could go on.

I think with Root you can get work anything even the sensitivity of your microphone. It can be easy like edit build.prop that something more but I am sure the sensitivity can be managed. If I find something I will post.

apple earpods isn't working

Apple earpods mic is not wokring on my oneplus 3t...the problem is with the mic. They don't work on calls, where as they are working fine with other devices...im on oreo beta 17...Are there any fixes available? Please let me know...thanks in advance!!!
Edit: a trick worked...move to second page and see the trick explained by @Shashank.446
A good indicator is the fact they are specifically designed for apple iPhones. Those earphones are unique to a phone a person purchased. They aren't plug and play type accessories. You might get them to work as headphones, but if you seriously brought yourself a set of $100+ apple iphone earbuds thinking they'd work 100%. I hope you kept a receipt.

Also building on what he said, you're on the Open Beta 17, which will give issues.
Why in the name of all that is good and holy, would you buy the Airpods, when many reviewers say that it's audio is meh.
There are way more better sounding Bluetooth earphones for less.

Guys, he didn't post "Airpods" (the Bluetooth ones), he posted "earpods" which are the regular wired headphones. I assume the OP has this from a former iPhone. I would expect in that case the buttons don't work properly, but the mic should work. At least that is what typically happens in the case of earpods + Android device. So the OP's question is a valid one.

There's no flashable zip for this kind of purpose, since the system compatibility is required to be changed from AOSP sources. It's just incompatibility between Android and an Apple accessory.
Yep I have the same issue... On nougat the mic and button worked perfectly fine but on Oreo stable now the mic seems to just create a static noise and the button keeps toggling the input as headset and headphones (the icon in the status bar keeps switching back and forth)

same problem
I am having same problem. Upgraded to Oreo yesterday and noticed that my iPhone Earpods aren't working and producing only static noise. Have a Sony wired headset which is working perfectly fine. As I read above posts, looks to be not just with OP 3T, it is Google Oreo as such, which is really bad and annoying. iPhone headphones have noise cancellation microphone feature which is not announced upfront. It helps a lot in taking important calls without surrounding noise. When someone produces a good product, should ensure compatibility and not go against it. Note, it was working till Nougat and not working only on Oreo. Very annoying. Google you are getting bad in terms of attitude, if the message about removal of support from Oreo, is right

Found a work around
My apple earpods dint work too after the Oreo update on my Oneplus 3T (Mic and play/pause controls not working). While i was going through this thread, i was trying to understand what might be causing this behavior. Surprisingly found a work around for this problem.
You need to insert the earpods 3.5mm plug into the mobile headphone jack to a level (except one last click) and hold it there for a second or two, where you can notice the 'headphone with mic' icon pops up on the status bar. Give it a second again and push that one last click in. The headphone, mic and controls, all of them worked as expected, everytime I did this procedure. I've tested it tens of times before posting it here. This trick might work with android Oreo phones other than Oneplus 3T too but i have not checked. Plz do post it here if somebody gets to find out if this trick works for other phones as well.

As has my 3T until recently.

Pretty sure he was asking whether it's Oreo overall (changes made by Google - regardless of the specific device) that broke the Earpod functionality; or something specifically done by OnePlus in the Oreo update.
