Straight Talk Galaxy S5 - Galaxy S 5 General

Hello Fellow Straight Talk S5 Users!!
I have some exciting news!
Basically our devices are fully functioning developer model Verizon S5's. What this means for us is this:
1. Your standard root method and recovery flashing method thru Odin will work. I will address how to do this in post #2
2. Unlike our Verizon or AT&T counterparts, we do not have a "Locked" bootloader, so we do not need apps like flashfire, flashify or SafeStrap. We can access our download mode and custom recovery the normal way, which I will address in post #2 as well.
3. Most Verizon S5 roms will work on our phone. (I only say most simply because I haven't tried them all, lol!) As well as many Intarnational roms, thanks to a patch made by my good friend @jrkruse and a small mod from myself. I will go over flashing custom roms in post #3.
4. We can create and restore back ups from our custom recovery so it is fairly safe for us to get a little flash happy. Just ask me, I flashed and restored like 4 different roms in one day, lol! I will go over backing up and restoring in post #4
5. Most developments for the Samsung S5 will work for our S5. We are actually very fortunate to have our devices. We basically have dev model phones for about half the price of what verizon and att charge.
I will put links to roms, recoveries, patches and tools needed to do all of this in there respective posts and centrally in post # 5.
Thanks to XDA for the platform to share what we do with the world. I take no credit for any roms recoveries or tools found here in this thread. I will give credit to the original devs as I share links to their work, THANK THEM they have done and continue to do a lot for us, and ask very little in return. I especially want to thank @malbert16442 and @jrkruse for there help, again you guys do a lot for the community without asking for much in return, thank you.
respect and education, respect and education my friends.
thank you

In doing this you void any warrant and accept all responsibility for anything that happens to your device. And your device will be wiped and factory reset.
To root your Straight talk s5 you'll need to go get some files. These are the links for what you need to get:
1. Odin (pc only) *http://odindownload.com/download/Odin3_v3.10.6.zip
2.TWRP Recovery *https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys5qualcomm.html
3. SuperSu 2.46 https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
4. Samsung Kies ( if you need drivers for your phone) http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/
Connect your phone to your pc. Copy the SuperSu file you downloaded to the root of your SD card. Once it has copied, immediately disconnect your phone from your pc.
Right click on the Odin file you just downloaded and select "run as administrator"
Once Odin has fully launched, make sure to UNCHECK the auto reboot option. Then click the "AP" button on the right side in Odin. Navigate to the TWRP 3.0 file you just downloaded and select it. Make sure that your TWRP file populates in the window next to the "AP" button.
Now you need put your phone into "download mode". To do this:
1. Power your phone off. Once it is completely off
2. Press and hold volume down + home button +
Power buttons at the same time.
3. You'll see a screen asking if you want to go
Into "download load" press volume up to
confirm download mode.
4. You should now see the little green Android
Guy, and it should say "downloading.... please
Do not turn off"
Now you should connect your phone to your pc. If your phones drivers are installed correctly, com and a random number should show up in the first spot in the upper left corner of Odin.
Once your phone shows up in Odin and you have your TWRP file in the AP spot in Odin, click the "start" button in the lower right corner of Odin. The whole process should take like 10 seconds. If Odin was successful the spot where your phone shows up in Odin should turn green and say reset.
Now disconnect your phone and remove the battery. Leave it out for a count of 5 seconds. Put the battery back in.
Now you need to boot into recovery. To do this your phone must (should still) be powered off:
1. Press and hold Volume up button + Home button + Power button at the same time until you feel the little wake vibration.
2. You should see the "Team Win" logo on your
Screen. The next screen should show a bunch
Of options.
3. Select the option that says install.
4. Click the top of the screen where it says "
Storage and make sure it is set to "ext SD"
5. Now find your SuperSu file you downloaded
And copied over earlier. Click on it. It will take
You to a screen that says "swipe to flash" at the
Bottom of the screen.
6. Swipe to flash.
7. Once it is done flashing, press the back button
Until you are at the screen you started on.
8. Select the "reboot" option, then
9. Select the "reboot system" option.
Your phone should reboot and be factory reset.
Complete your normal set up and you now have a fully rooted straight talk galaxy s5 w/ custom Recovery! Enjoy!

So, now that you are rooted and on the stock touchwiz, the first thing you'll want to do is create back up (some will call this a "nandroid" back up). This is how you make a back up:
1. Power off your phone. Once it is completely shut down
2. Press and hold the Volume up + home + power at the same time until you feel that little wake vibrate. You
should now be in Recovery mode.
3. Select the option that says "back up". Make sure that Dalvik, Boot, System and efs are all checked, at least for
this first back up.
4. Swipe across the bottom to start the back up.
*****This may take 5 minutes or so, so don't get to antsy and try to restart or do anything else with your phone while *****it is backing up. That would be bad.*****
5. Once it is done, press the back button again until you are at the recovery home screen.
6. Select "reboot"
7. Select "reboot system"
Boom! You just created your stock rooted back up. Always back up before you flash a mod or a new rom!
Now if you ever get in trouble, like a bootloop or system crashes, you can always boot into recovery and restore your stock rooted back up. Here's how:
1. Power down your phone. Once it is completely shut down.
2. Volume up + Home + power to boot into recovery
3. Select restore
4. Select storage at the top and make sure you select "ext sd" then go back.
5. Select the twrp folder, then select the back ups folder.
*****Your back up name will start with the date you made the back up.*******
6. Select your back up
7. Swipe across the bottom to restore your back up.
******Here again this could take 5 to 10 minutes. So sit still and have a drink or a smoke and LET IT DO IT'S THING. do ******not stop it, shut it off or interrupt it for any reason.******************************************* ************
8. Once it is done push the back button untill you are at the recovery home page.
9. Select "reboot"
10. Select "reboot system"
If all went well, you should be back on a freshly rooted stock system. Enjoy
I always back up any rom I flash that is working well, that way I can restore it at a later time if need be.

Here is a quick rom install tutorial and review:

Cm13 will work. And that is based on Android 6.0. You will probably need Jrkruse patch for it to work.

But cm13 Is gsm- is that what jrkruse' patch does?

You can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ent/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-android-6-0-t3237502
You will want the one that says G900* Unified-GSM*
Make a back up first.
Then flash the rom. !! do not reboot when it is done!!
Once the rom is finished flashing go back and flash jrkruse patch.
Once jrkruse patch is done flashing then reboot

Ok so grab the cm13 rom entitled g900* unified gsm... got it. but where is the jrkruse patch? That thread is 594 pages long!

This is jrkruse patch. Download from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24421527759882706
But if you are patient I will cook one up specifically for straight talk.
Remember to back up your stuff first

I will wait as patiently as possible and look forward to it! Thank you!

well I waited about 10 minutes before I got so antsy that I backed up, wiped and installed c13 and patch. didn't work, had no cellular data or connection. also, he phone recognized itself as a g900f.

The g900f part is normal. Thats what my phone says as well. Did you reboot before flashing the patch?

No. Should I?
---------- Post added at 08:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:39 PM ----------
I wonder why I had no cell service

i rooted with Odin fine, but when I try to use Odin for the twrp recovery I can't find the file that is saved on my desktop. do I need to change the name of the image?

I see there are a few different patches related to certain baseband versions. I wonder if I need a different one. I've flashed so many roms at this point I'm not sure what I have for a modem, baseband, or anything important!

I've installed maverick rom with the patch... wow I love it!

It looks like Wanam doesn't work with this roms firmware. But so what, maverick rocks! I would like to see 4g or lte up in the top bar though. That is my only complaint.

Kxhan15, where are you? Are international Roms that will work for our phone with the patch any g903f rom?

So at this point, I can make phone calls and send text messages but no pictures and no online. The phone tells me my data is turned off. I know it is turned on there's just something not right

[Q] Did I brick my P880 ???

Hello !!
I have just tried flashing my phone to V10A and I wanted to update to V10F (restoring to stock).
Now my phone is not starting and it starts ""vibrating"" and sometimes screen is orange and something blue ....
What should I do ?
downloaded .kdz from here: http://www.lg-phones.org/official-lg-optimus-4x-hd-firmwares-download.html
Followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861854
This is my first android phone so I need a lot of help. Did I completely brick it ? PLEASE HELP !
Woah, never mind. It was because I just inserted USB cable without the battery. I thought I'm screwed
Take a deep breath.... relax.....
Try doing it again.
Remember to put the battery back in after Step 5 in the guide
---------- Post added at 11:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:26 PM ----------
Most of the people here get our firmware from here: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/
Thanks for posting, and I relaxed a little
Since this thread is already open, I would ask what should I choose at "PhoneMode" ? DIAG, CS_EMERGENCY or EMERGENCY ?
Stated in the guide. DIAG
Preparation:
Download the kdz file of your interest (any version will do) from http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=15
Download the necessary Windows softwares here http://www.4shared.com/zip/Gl2T6aLJ/KDZ_FW_UPD_P880.html
Download usbdriver for LG P880 from LG support website (LGUnitedMobileDriver - Ver 3.8.1)
Recovering steps:
[1]
Extract the KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.zip anywhere (example: C:\KDZ\)
Install msxml.msi (located in \KDZ)
[2]
Install the usb driver (LGUnitedMobileDriver - Ver 3.8.1)
[3]
Reebot your softbricked Optimus 4X in SW Upgrade mode (remove the battery, hold the (vol -) key and plug the cable in, remember not to press the on/off button, just hold down (vol -) and plug the cable in.)
"S/W Upgrade" texts will appear on phone screen, release the holding of (Vol -) and wait for Windows to finish installing drivers for each component: modem, port, etc.
[4]
Open the Windows "Device Manager" > Modems > disable the LGE Mobile USB Modem
Make sure the driver for LG port is correctly installed
If you put off SIM card before flashing, you may find Windows failed to install modem driver, yet disabling USB modem is still recommended just in case.
[5]
Insert back your battery
[6]
Run as administrator Windows Enabler.exe (KDZ\Windows Enabler.exe) --->Make sure to right click and Run as administrator... not double-clicking
After run the app, an icon will appear on your tray, single-click on the icon until the "ON" text appears over the icon
[7]
Run as administrator KDZ_FW_UPD.exe ---> Make sure to right click and Run as administrator... not double-clicking
[8]
Locate the .kdz file that you want to flash
[9]
Select the necessary options:
Type: "3GQCT"
Phonemode: "DIAG"
[10]
Click on "Launch Software Update" and don't click on anything else
[11]
Ignore the error log, it's normal, just click OK over the notification and let the software-updating progress finish about 5-7 minutes
[12]
WAIT until your phone reboots automatically, unplug the cable. and click on EXIT
[13]
The automatic booting may bring you to recovery mode
If this is the case, just do a hard reset (wipe data). The phone in this recovery mode might respond slower than normal, just be patient to wait the phone to respond after making an option
If you've got only boot loop after flashing .kdz, just get to android recovery mode by press and hold [vol -] and [power], then do a hard reset and reboot again

Yes, actually flashed already, now updating to v10f. After doing this and restoring to factory, is there any way of telling device was ever rooted ?

try this apps
actually i think after flash and factory reset, u need to root back ur phone
Flashing through the guide you are following and the one given by razerblade17 will REMOVE all root. So your device will be unroot as far as first boot is concerned.
for rooting follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818502
AND IMPORTANTLY, factory reset your phone after root or you might later complain battery don't last.
---------- Post added at 12:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:15 AM ----------
Simply doing a factory reset will not remove root
I flashed something in German. It shows number 3 when shutting down and some apps with prefix 3 in German.
This is the most obvious way of telling I flashed something, isn't it ?
Flashed this provider:
http://www.drei.at
Did LG PC Suite do this when updating from v10a to v10f ?

To check if you have flashed it's kinda complicated.. follow my steps closely
1. Check if your phone is able to boot into the lockscreen.
2. Pull down the notification drawer, press the Gear icon beside the Date
3. Scroll down to the bottom
4. Go into About Phone
5. Scroll to the bottom. Check the Software version states V10_ (whatever you've tried to flash)
If nothing out of what u expect is found then sorry you've just flashed your phone.
After I flashed that German ROM, everything was almost the same until I factory restored it, than I found out it was German and used one of links from site you guys provided. It's working fine now.
Thanks !
btw: What exactly did you mean by restoring after root ?

do a factory reset from either the settings or recovery (hold vol down + power while phone's off until u see the recovery. Use vol up and down to navigate and power button to select) after you obtained root. You can do the reset anytime after root but until then you might get shiity battery life.

[Q] Failed to verify whole file signature

Hello folks,
I somehow soft bricked my phone yesterday. I have bee trying to recover it by flashing to Odin because doing a restore on the phone through CWM did not do anything except throw my phone into looping hte Samsung logo. I originally rooted it using the first method in this first post a year ago.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26860509
So I do have CWM 6.0.12 but when I tried to use Odin and having hte phone in Download mode as described in the XDA Wiki to return to factory settings (using "uvlg3.flash2stock"), it will go through, but upon the phone rebooting it returns the error "failed to verify whole file signature" and the installation of the phone fails.
Now because I have CWM, I can try using an external SD, but before I got out of my way to buy an external SD to flash, I was wondering if there was something else I might be missing. I have already tried doing clear cache, clear rom, clear dvlekch, etc. Is the Kernel corrupt (is this possible?) Should I be using one of the other Rooted Roms instead of the Factory restore?
In order to avoided problems it is best to do a full wipe before flashing ANY rom even returning to stock. It is the only way to make sure your data isn't corrupt or that it won't be incompatible with the rom your flashing. Too many people skip this step. WIPE, WIPE, and just for good measure WIPE AGAIN. Flash rom, gapps if needed. Reinstall Apps Only. DO NOT RESTORE DATA, save yourself the headaches, force closes, and boot loops.
Also, if you have CWM flash with that not Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda app-developers app
Downloaded that Odin once about a year ago, worked fine for me but it was a bit of a pita, mainly cause I didnt have a clue. Some have luck with it some dont. Try downloading again with a different browser.
BTW does cwm 6012 not have a mount option?

Cwm 6012 mount option is in advance setting.
Tried with an external SD Card flash did absolutely nothing when I selected the external, it was as if hitting "enter" just acted the same as hitting the "back" button. I got no on screen acknowledgement of anything and it would just go back to the previous screen.
I tried re-downloading the zip and flashing through the Download mode of the phone again, and it got as far as rebooting and then...it reached an error.
E: error in cache/recover/sec_csc.zip
(Status7)
Installation aborted
EDIT: Ok tried again with SD Card: using Root Stock 2.36. worked. Rebooted. Hangs at "Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4g" screen. At this point, I'm not sure what the heck my actual problem is. Is my phone permanently bricked? Is the Kernel corrupt?
Just to be clear here you were using the uvlg3.odin.zip in download mode (post 2)
And uvlg3.flash2stock.zip when trying through cwm?

CnP from the wiki
Flash to stock via Odin
Thanks to stubbakatt for the original back to stock directions.
DISCLAIMERS:
This works with Windows XP/Vista/7. It also works with Win7 running via VMWare Fusion on Macs running Snow Leopard and Lion.
FILES NEEDED:
Download Odin (Google it) and the stock factory images: uvlg3.odin.zip
Samsung USB Drivers: click here - if you're rooted/rommed, you probably already have these
Samsung Drivers for "Download" mode: click here or click here - if phone is not recognized by PC when in Download mode
STEPS:
Odin does not reset /data, so do a factory reset - this will wipe out the /data partition, leaving you ready to flash back to stock. If you don't do a reset, your stock install most likely will not work.
Make sure the computer recognizes your phone with the drivers above (again, this is probably already the case if you're having to do this!)
Unzip the uvlg3.odin.zip to wherever you want - preferably somewhere easy to get to (desktop?).
Power down your phone. Once it's off, hold down the volume-down button and press power. Hold both down until you see the "Warning!!" message with the yellow triangle at the bottom. Once you see that, hit the volume-up button. This puts you into Odin/download mode.
Plug your phone into your computer.
Open "Odin Multi Downloader v4.43.exe". Once it opens, the Message window at the bottom left should read "Added!!!" and "Detected!!!".
Make sure all four of the Options are checked (One Package, Auto Reboot, Protect OPS, Reset Time [mine's set to 300 seconds]). I don't know if this is all necessary, but at the very least One Package and Auto Reboot appear to be.
On the right side, click the "OPS" button, and select/open the Ancora.ops file.
At the bottom, click the "One Package" button, and select/open the "T679LG3.tar" file.
The Message window should do an md5 check and end with "Check MD5... ok". If it doesn't, try redownloading again - don't want to flash a corrupt file!
If all of that is good to go, then select the "Start" button.
Your mileage will vary, but it should take around 5 minutes, then the phone reboots itself into recovery mode (the little white box with the progress bar), then about 30 seconds after that and the phone fully reboots. Don't unplug it yet. After a few minutes (actually, the 300 seconds set in the "reset time" in Odin), it will say "Pass!!!" and you're good to go and can unplug the phone.
---------- Post added at 02:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:53 AM ----------
Its been a year or better but seems to me all that was needed for odin was unpacking, the zip already has everything you would need. Someone correct me if i am wrong there.
You can mount your pc through cwm advanced setting, just copy the ROM over and flash. Wipe everything before copying of course.
Yes I did.
However I managed to find another solution. I flashed Peach and my phone is now working! Yay.
However I'm still not sure what happened? Did flashing to stock ROM not work because I had a modified Kernel?

[RECOVERY][ROOT] Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini LTE (GT-I9195)

WARNING! ONLY USE THIS ON THE GT-I9195 MODEL!
Hello all S4 Mini owners!
I'm happy to finally release ClockworkMod recovery and an insecure kernel for the GT-I9195. With these two installed on your device, obtaining root is easy.
Attached to this post is the necessary files needed for this task. Download the following files:
Odin_v3.09.zip (if you don't have it already)
recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.1-serranoltexx.tar.zip
S4Mini_RootKit_v2.zip (contains SuperSU v1.89 and BusyBox v1.21.1) ONLY FOR STOCK ROM! NOT FOR CM OR OTHER AOSP BASED ROMS!
Extract recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.1-serranoltexx.tar.zip file to your computer.
The procedure is as:
Copy the " S4Mini_RootKit_v2.zip" to your device SD card.
Turn off the phone.
Press and hold home, volume down and power. Download screen should appear.
Connect USB cable, and press volume up.
Start Odin, uncheck "F. Reset Time", and then click AP button.
Select "recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.1-serranoltexx.tar.md5" file that you previously extracted, and press Start button. The phone will reboot when finished.
After the phone resets (it vibrates) IMMEDIATELY hold volume up and home buttons to boot into recovery mode.
Select the option to install the ZIP file you have previously copied to your device and begin flashing it.
After flashing using CWM, reboot into system and enjoy your rooted device.
Optional: Flash GT-I9195_Kernel_v1.zip (Only for Android 4.2.2, not KitKat) to use a custom stock kernel, which might fix battery drain for some.
Kernel changelog: https://github.com/arco/android_kernel_samsung_msm8930-common/commits/stock
If you get warnings about applications doing not permitted actions, delete the following files from system/app, or let SuperSU fix it for you.

Insecure is needed for rooting, not unsafe or unstable. As far as I know, it removes some security-thingies added by Samsung. For normal use, this shouldn't make a difference.
Correct me if I'm wrong please

An insecure kernel has disabled the root prevention checks that Samsung added. Other than that it's the same as stock kernel. Although in this kernel I also made two minor changes to allow apps to read the kernel log and the full logcat.

Thanks for the effort! I'm building a similar package for the I9192 (the dual sim variant, a.k.a "serranods") and I was wondering if you made any serious changes to the kernel except the usual ramdisk rooting changes (ro.secure, adbd binary, su binary etc.)
I'm going to release an insecured kernel based on the dual sim stock kernel, but I'm probably going to reuse the recovery. I expect the two platforms to be very similar in terms of recovery support (drivers, libraries, recovery kernel, partition layout etc.) and I know you can't make any implicit or explicit claims that the recovery won't brick any another model or variant than the one you made the release for. However, I expect no issues whatsoever as the hardware is identical except the modem, so I'll let you guys know.
Cheers,
C.

Download and extract them into the same folder. The procedure is as follows:
Turn off the phone.
Press and hold home, volume down and power. Download screen should appear.
Connect USB cable, and press volume up.
Start Odin, uncheck "F. Reset Time", and then click PDA button.
Select "GT-I9195_MF5_870901_kernel.tar.md5" file, and press Start button. The phone will reboot when finished.
After boot is finished, power off your phone and repeat step 2 and 3.
In Odin, click PDA button and select "recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.3-serranoltexx.tar.md5" file, and press Start button.
After boot is finished, power off your phone.
Press and hold home, volume up and power. Phone will boot into recovery. When you exit recovery, it will ask if you want to root the device. Select yes.
All you need to do now, is to download the Superuser app from the Play Store, and you're set!
Click to collapse
I follow the first steps but I always get stuck at the beginning. I only get a screen with "downloading.... Do not turn off target!!" it does not matter what buttons I push. On top it says "odin mode" in red, some product info and then it says "Wrtie protection: Enable".
Any suggestions?
@charliebigpot: That's normal. When that screen appears, connect your device and start ODIN. Then, in ODIN, your device should be detected and you can start flashing. If you still need more info, please search the forum. In any event, you don't have a problem (yet)...
Cheers,
C.
Thank You for the hard work, it work perfectly for me.
I was able to restore my Angry Birds Stars wars Backup which is a life saver for me .
One little thing, I keep getting a notification that says :
"Device Information :
The device as detected an application attempting unpermitted actions. To protect your device, it is recommended you reboot."
So I hit reboot and it reboot in "recovery mode" instead of normal boot.
So I hit reboot in recovery mode and get back on the system, but the notification comes back a few minutes later.
Can somone help me fix that ?
Frem.
PS : The only actions I did after rooting is installing "supersuer" app, then using "ES file explorer" activate root access, to copy angry birds backup, then deactivate "ES file explorer" root access
dsixda's Android Kitchen files
THANKS MATE FOR GREAT JOB!
Now, if some1 can produce dsixda's Android Kitchen files for i9195, it would be awesome!

Delete KNOX apps (containing KNOX in their name), I think there are 3 of them, in system/apps, that would do it. You can use ES file explorer of course with root permissions

Thank you jba.33a that worked perfectly .
One last question a friend of mine told me that "rooting my phone" will stop it from getting the samsung "official updates".
Is that true ?
If it is true, is there a easy way around it like rooting it back ?
Thanks again for the hard work arco68.

[Q] {Help Needed] Rooting Problem

Phone: GT-I9305 Optus
OS: Stock 4.1.2
Problem: I decided to root my phone, mainly to be able to use Titanium backup, and followed one of the guides here.
Odin did its thing nice and easy, phone rebooted and installed CF-Root just like it was supposed to.
However, on the reboot after install, it asked for my password (Device is encrypted). No big deal, enter password.....didn't work. I've tried multiple times, and it's not accepting my password at all.
Did I just brick my phone? Is there a way to fix this?
Edit: The phone now says I have seven more tries before it erases everything on it. Honestly, I'm not that fussed about having to re-install everything, I just want to be able to use my phone.
Edit 2: Tried going into the debug/reset menu (Vol Up+Home+Power) All I get is stuck at the S3 splash screen, with a VERY tiny red '!' at the top left corner.
Try the process again but don't let odin reboot your phone. After it flashes cf-root, make sure the reboot option is not thicked, press home button +Volume up +power at the same time. You should get straight in to recovery.

Samsung Galaxy S5 G901F 4G+ Rooting, installing custom recovery + adding custom ROM!

WELCOME TO SUPER GUIDE on how to root and add Custom Recovery for Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G901F 4G+ kccat6/kccat6xx) (ONLY FOR THIS MODEL)!
~Guide By me, KiprasLT
Credits:
To @Tkkg1994 for TWRP Custom Recovery,
To The well known and Mighty @Chainfire (If I missed someone, PM me!)
IF YOU FOLLOW MY STEPS BELOW, YOU WILL MAY LOSE YOUR WARRANTY, KNOX WILL DISPLAY 0x1! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGED DEVICE!
BEFORE STARTING, make sure you have your sistem backup, if somethink goes wrong.
PLEASE, follow the instructions step-by-stop to make sure you succeed!
Now, let's get started:
1. Make sure you have USB Debugging enabled on your phone. You can easily enable it by going into --> Settings, scroll down, till you see "About phone" --> Scroll down till you see "create number". Tap it 7 times and you will enable developer settings. Now go back, scroll down again, and next to "About phone" you will see "Developer Options". Click on them. Make sure they are enabled by looking at top right corner and clicking white dot. Now go down till you see "USB Debugging" Press on it and click "OK" Check if it's enabled, then your phone is prepared.
2. Go ahead and download Odin3 latest (most recent) version into your computer. (Just google "Download Odin" or "Download Odin3".
3. Create a folder on your desktop and name it whatever you wish.
4. Download CF-Autoroot-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.tar.md5 by clicking here and put it into the folder you just created, or just download it and put it into the folder. This is autoroot. It will root your device.
5. Download TWRP Custom Recovery by clicking here and put it into the folder you just created, or just download it and put it into the folder. This is Custom Recovery, it's the best one yet for SM-G901F. (Thank you once again Tkkg1994 for letting us use it and have it on our S5's)
6. Make sure your phone has at least 60% of battery remaining.
7. Power off the phone while holding power button and pressing "Power off" and "OK" and wait for it to turn off.
8. Get the phone into Download mode by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power + Home buttons at once. Wait for yellow think pop up with some text. Then press Volume UP to get into Download mode.
9. Plug your phone into PC with USB cabble. Then Open Odin. If it's not installed, just install it. Then wait for odin to recognise your phone (where it says ID:COM) that little box should turn into blue color. Go to options, make sure that ONLY autoreboot and F. Reset Time are market. Then, next to AP, mark it, and then click it. Select CF-Auto-Root-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.tar.md5 and click "open". Wait for it to load up.
9.1 Hit the start button and watch the magic happen. You can take a look at your phone and see that blue think is charging up fast. Just let him do his thing. After the autoroot is applied, the phone will reboot itself. Remember that only first reboot after flashing somethink new will take longer. Stay calm and chill. Btw you can close odin for now.
10. Enter the pin code if the phone asks it, then turn on wifi. SuperSU message should pop up telling to install SuperSU. Do it (You need Wi-Fi). When the SuperSU is installed, your device should be rooted. (Don't freak out if SuperSU message didn't pop up, you can allways install it from Google Play store). You can go to google play store, download root checker, open it, click on "check root" or something similar, it will ask root acess, accept it. Then it's probably going to show that this device is properly rooted. Gratz! If not, you managed to screw up somewhere :crying:
Now, it's time for Custom recovery. It's much more better than standart recovery, and it will probably be needed in future.
Sooo, step 11. Get your phone into download mode once again (Power off, then Volume down+Power+Home) and then Volume up.
11.1 Connect your phone into your computer with USB cabble.
11.2 Open Odin/Odin3. Again, wait for it to recognise your phone, then click on "options", again, make sure that only Autoreboot and F. Reset Time are market. Then, next to AP, mark it, and then click it. Select g901f-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1130).tar and press "open". Wait for it to load up.
11.3 Hit the start button and once again, watch the magic happen.
12. After succesfully flashing custom recovery, your phone should reboot by itself.
Guess what folks? This is it! You should have your SM-G901F G4+ rooted and have a custom recovery applied! CONGRATULATIONS to you! If you liked the guide, please hit "Thanks" button, it helps a lot And you can also rate this Threat! If you need any help, just post your question down here in the comment section.
Just a thing: I don't suggest installing Cyanogens (CM) Custom ROM. I've had so much trouble with CM 12, with removing it, fixing my phone and fixing google apps untill I totaly reseted it. However you are free to do what you want. If you found better ROM that's working for you and may work for others, be sure to share it right here in the comment section!
Edit: I found out that this guy @Tkkg1994 posted a good guide about how to install a ROM for this device! I tested it myself and it works perfectly! Currently testing other features, but It's the best one yet for SM-G901F G4+ kccat6/kccat6xx, you can check out the guide by clicking here!
Hi! I think in the title it should be "4G+" not "G4+" and thank you for your post!

Hi thanks for this guide!
I have just one question. I'm on Android 5.0.2, can I use the same CF auto-root file you used?
On chainfire's website there is only an auto-root file for 4.4.4.

Hey, no problem dude! I have Android 5.0.2 too, I use it atm and it works 100% !
Hi KiprasLT, I tried to install and root my s5 g901F, using your method, but odin simply gives me a message that "all is succeeded, one failed". I've enabled usb debugging, my phone is simfree... I have installed android 5.0.2. Can you please tell me what em I doing wrong? I tried even twp recovery, and it's the same. I thought by rooting I will solve this "failed one" problem, but unfortunately, I didn't have any success.
Thanks in advance

I think I had the same problem, I just made a backup of my files and then I flashed default firmware (official post + download link + guide here) and then on top of it flash CWM Custom recovery, then the phone should reboot, and then you can try to flash the CF-Autoroot again. Please reply back to me if it worked/didn't work.
P.S. Make sure that your phone is Samsung Galaxy S5 G901F 4G+. If it isn't, please reply.
Hi KiprasLT, I already have downloaded the default android(G901FXXU1BOC4_G901FNEE1BOC4_NEE). I checked, my device is SM-G901F Lte+. I don't know if it's the same as 4g or there are some differences, that's why I wrote this message. Please tell me, if it's the
same, or it changes everything.
Wish you all the best

Yeah I think the cw doesn't work for this phone model, so just stick whit what I've provided, it's working perfectly for me for about half a year and I'm not complaining. If you have any more questions, just reply to me.

I changed the DPI of my S5 Plus to 400 instead of the default 480. Some apps now appear in smaller boxes on the screen. For me the biggest problem is that the camera now has this problem.
In other threads people bring this up for the normal s5. The solution is to use Xposed to set custom Appsettings. But the problem is that Xposed doesn't work (yet) on the S5 plus! So is there any other way to fix the camera app?
Cheers!
