I've unpgraded to this newest ROM and ever since I cannot connect to my wireless network, did anyone experienced something similar?
I know it's a test version but...I coudl connect before with my dutch SPV m3000 ROM,setting the WEP key and so on...
I am using this rom for 2 weeks now and am very confident.
NO issues whatsoever!
GPRS, BT, WiFi: it all works
2.8 is VERY good
i can also confirm it: the new rom is very stable, and all GPRS+WIFI+BT+IR+ Audio are a significant improvement....probablt because i also overclocked my device at 264 MHz. After 10 days of frequent operations no problem and not a single reset; still skype is not what you would like from life (very bad quality calling echo123...)
I see that we still have a lot problems with w5 on our beloved blue angels.
Now, my question is: what is a major benefit to go from fast and reliable SE 2003 to W 5.0?
it's sluggish, unstable.
so, why we all upgrading-downgrading our devices up and down, is this a justified action to get a better OS or our desire to try something new?
Something new.
WM5 is a lot better than WM2003 but the problem is that there is no specefic official version of wm5 for blueangel, so developers reverse engineer other versions of WM5 and the leaked one from MS , to create stable OS. Latest WM5 versions are quite stable. None forces you to try WM5 if you don't like it downgrade and use WM2003
it's not about forcing me or someone to use w5.0, but what's better in this OS, what do you mean by saying better ? speed, stability extra functionality ?
I simply like it better
Its like WinMe vs WinXP
Well said TB. Kinda like, why are people instrested in Windows Vista? Windows XP work dunit? Acuttaly, don't answer that one.
Guys, you are talking very subjectivly:
like-don't like.
win me and win xp is quite dif. OS. Upgrading to XP gives us very stable reliable system with much more functionalities.
I simply like to see what extra features are in wm5, which are not available in SE.
so far we have OS with not 100% working BT, MMS, terrible ActiveSync, poor phone, etc.
I am very grateful to guys workimg on these ROMs, and thank them of course, but my question: is wm5 better than SE at all and what this better stuff is?
COM,
flashing OS takes about 15 mins. So, flash WM5, play with it. U can always go back to WM23.
And Wm5 to Wm2 is not like ME to XP. More like Win2K vs Win2K+service packs.
Well for me its a Me vs XP (My SE kept crashing and crashing, doublesending the same SMS, not sending MMSes at all, freezing when cancelling calls). WM5 drops Bluetooth connections, does strange things with the hw keyboard and works quite slow (I overclocked the CPU to 531MHz, it works... usable). But at least I can use my PHONE as a PHONE.
I agree with TB
I have many problems with 2003SE, 3-4 daily resets, because it hangs, when the battery and backup battery drains out you loose everything(such as in hard reset). I have no such problems with WM5 it is much stable and it is slower than 2003 but in the recent WM5 roms (Ivan's and Tuatara) the speed is improved and stability is much better than 2003SE
I like WM5 because it looks better, and the soft keys are very usefull. and you get to show off the nice and hard work of Mamaich, Tuatara and all others and say that xda-dev kicks ass!!!!
well, from what you are saying: wm5 is more stable !
Thanks, this is an advantage no doubt. let's hope we will soon get the final version from our gurus here.
By the way, should wm5 be a hardware independent OS, like windows XP and portable from one PDA to another?
Better not - due to XP's portability it eats up so much resources :| If you wanna try it yourself - Linux for example compiles (is compiled ) in order to match the HW configuration of the computer, while WindowsXP 'HasItAll, but mostly unusefull for your current hardware' :|
A new OS, which prevents your data from loss even at significant battery discharge, comfortable control without a stylus, improved Office Mobile. Noticeable cosmetic advantages.
...
Will there every be a BA Official WM5 release
no, microsoft made one and distrobuted it to the telecos but it is there decision whether to release it. as far as i can tell they will never do this as it doesn't make buisiness sense, why give a free wm5 update away when if you keep it too yourself people are gonna buy a new phone to get it?
but.. we are keeping our phones anyway hehehehe
(that's why we are on this phorum. Anyway..)
Hi,
I am using O2 XDA IIs for more than 8 months. I eagerly waited for the O2 update, as HP had offered to its ipaqs. But it was very disappointing that , instead of giving software updates; o2 started to show new models with Windows Mobile 5.0. I tried even from Microsoft site for upgrades, but that was a futile attempt. Then I finally decided to upgrade from XDA-developres.
You have to understand that major advantafe of WM5 over the Wm2003se is that data is not volatile; so there is no need to backup now and then.Secondly fast and secure. The major problem is that it needs faster processor. I hope it is helpful.

WM5 is slower than WM2003SE. WM5 best offering is persistent storage.
It is because it has NAND based rom. So, it doesnt offer XIP
Yes it is a lil slower than 2003 but it hte rom is properly build (Ivan and Tuatara roms) you will find no diference for speed, bu you will find a lot more stability. The CPU is not so important, we see devices with 200 MHz CPU to run WM5 just fine (Prophet and Wizard), of course they have a lil problems with multitasking but thay have only 200 MHz CPU, so you have to expect some lag. Blueangel have more than enough resources to run and operate WM5, we just need a properly tweaked rom for this device.
Hi where I live I can either get GPRS or the not much better EDGE ( at least for now ), yesterday I was doing some tests with my GF phone ( Nokia N73 ) and my HTC Kaiser, and I always saw her phone outperform mine, so I thought maybe the EDGE is the problem, ok I came here updated the phone and things got a bit better ( changed for a better radio ), but today I was still intrigued about the difference on SPEED on the EDGE of hers and mine, so I went and looked at the specifications for both phones.
Nokia N73:
EDGE Class 11, 236.8 kbps
HTC Kaiser:
EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps
They both claim the same speed but they have different Class, based on what I know when there is a Class Change, the Phone has more channels and can pass even MORE data, I think that's the real issue here, now is there a way ( or a radio ) that can make the HTC Kaiser, Class 11, or Class 12 ( if it exists )
I know there must be a way, but I searched all over the forums and I found no information about this.
tyvm.
What are the tests you were running? Unless you're using the phone just as a modem for your laptop, there are many more factors that affect speed, like the time the browser needs to render the pages (and PIE is known to be really slow at this)...
what I was testing
well believe it or not I was testing fringe and skype, they work, but compared to my GF mine is choppier, regading PIE, youtube, and online videos they all play very good ( for EDGE that is )
I'm aware that there are several posts on this subject and i read almost all and NONE of the fixes and hints helped. It's perhaps my (older) iGO version.
So what version are you running and how bad is your lag?
I run 8.0.044366 (June 24.2008) with a HUGE lag (sometimes even taking me off the road).
I have OCN8 which is basically iGO8. I do not have a lag other than the normal 1 to 2 second one.
I played with OCN on the Tilt but it was SUCH a memory hog that I killed it again. Oh well I guess let's give it a try again on the Fuze. Willing to share your sys.txt?
Try adding:
[msdn]
enabled=0
in sys.txt. Made navigation go from about 2fps to 15fps for me.
and what is it that msdn in iGo8 exactly does?
Am I going to miss something if I disable it?
Thanks and regards,
Its USA only, and its for traffic updates i believe. If you google or wiki it i think it explains it.
@Jiggs1337
I tried it but it still takes me off the road occasionally and the lag ... well takes up to 6 seconds (down from 10) to show 0 (zero) miles after a full stop.
I have the same problem. At low speeds (max 40 km/h) I find the lag less obvious than at high speeds (min 70 km/h). The GPS fix on position however is excellent! Almost on top of the arrow all the time, exacter I think isn't possible, its just the lag of the software, its like it can't keep up with the pace.... Anyone found a solution? Are there any more combinations to try in the sys.txt file to get it processing faster??
I had no time (and will not have any time this year) to either install a TomTom version or upgrade iGO to either OCN or the latest iGO. I do see a relatively good accuracy using google maps and ms live search where the ;ag is mainly driven by the delay loading the map through 3G.
I assume (better I HOPE) that the lag is caused by older software releases due to the fact that iGO ran (was perhaps designed to run) on 200 - 400 MHz devices while Fuze/Diamond and other newer devices run 524 MHz plus. This may (again I hope) be the reason for the lag IF it is truly software related.
We'll see, mid. January I will have time to update but until then I need my phone working and a GPS which at least brings me where I have to go using my common sense as backup "device".
There is no lag with bt gps. Tested it many times.
@kirileman
We all know this but WHY the heck should I carry a BT GPS (and spend some money even if only a few bucks) when my supahdupah phone HAS a GPS chipset?!?! If I would have liked a device requiring an external GPS rcv I'd buy a crappy blueberry, strawberry or whatever berry they are called!
my personal experience, i have a smaller lag with iGO than TomTom..i barely notice it whilst with tomtom i do...
Same here, tomtom has an almost non existent lag (v7.450 com speed set to 38400).
Garmin XT on the other hand is almost unusable. The lag is ridiculous!!.

hi
one more for future info updates:fingers-crossed:
There aren't alot of Lumia devices their own thread nor, let alone their own listing in the device section. I was hoping that the Lumia 928 was going to get added, but sadly it might not happen.
Anyone tried gdr3 for 625???

Is where maybe already a custom rom for Nokia 625?
Um... haha no. I mean, it'd be cool, but there are hardly *any* WP8 custom ROMs. Lumias (and most other WP8 devices) are locked down much too tightly.
Unlock code for lumia 625
DOES Anyone know if there is the unlock tool out for the Lumia 625 please? i am desperate for it.
thanks

EVERY LUMIA USER IS DYING TO HAVE ANY KIND OF UNLOCK.
and yes, all caps necessitates me yelling at my phone seeing this comment for the trillionth time.

I *think* the OP is actually asking for a SIM unlock (but doesn't know enough to know that there are many kinds of unlock, apparently...).
Good news
Hey guys, I gotta good news!
I bought a lumia 625 in the last year in December, but until now , I got stuck with WP8 unforunately. I was really interested in Windows Phone platform, but hard restrictions makes me feel like I have a nearly strong, but an absolute useless mobile. I like to gain the best of all the features whitch comes whit my device, but in this way, Nokia is still two steps behind from the other manufacturers of the market. I follow day by day the infos of the Android project Nokia X, so I've decided to check my bootloader somehow, to test the possibilities if in the future can be able to port a CFW into the phone.
-Turned the phone off,
-Pressed the Volume Up button and kept holding it
-Connected a USB cable to the PC
- And voila, A NEW UNLOCKED QUALCOMM DEVICE WAS RECOGNISED BY OS (instead of Nokia DLOAD)
Try it now

Ähm.... what exactly are you trying?
And what do you want?
Do you want an unlocked bootloader?
Or do you want SIM-Unlock?
If you connect your device and it shows "qualcomm device", does windows ask you to format your drive? (if it does, do NOT format, press cancel!! as in old Lumia 800 days)

I'm just having a trial of if I have an unlocked bootloader or not. I do not want to unlock the sim-lock, but if it possible, I would change the firmware to another (get started trying to port android somehow). I know, that there's a large scale of Android running smartphones nowadays, but lumia devices have uniq beautiful design, and well quality of hardwer. So if there's a potencial chance of success, why not?
SORRY guys i was a little basic on the 1st post, what i want to do is use another network on the phone, its locked to one company and i want to use another companies sim, is this possible without having to pay for it pls?
Sorry about that

I highly doubt that happens. If you hold the volume up button during boot, you'll put the phone into some sort of mode (forgot the exact name), but the OS won't recognize it as a mass storage device. If anything, you'd get a QUALCOMM MSM DEVICE or something like that, which isn't of much use either. And if you connect the phone during normal boot procedure, you'll probably get a NOKIA BOOTMGR for a couple of seconds before the OS finishes booting and the MTP kicks in.
This isn't WP7. Production WP8 Nokias are all protected by SecureBoot and a whole bunch of other stuff, so you can give up your hopes of a factory unlocked bootloader.
