Unbrick GS5A after following 4.4.4 root guide? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

hey guys! I followed the guide here
**Make certain that your reactivation lock in security settings is off before beginning this process**
1. Take the NG3 OTA update.
2. Download and install Towelroot-v3.apk(this version does not require internet access).
3. Place your phone into "Download Mode" (press and hold the Home, Volume Down, and Power keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press Volume Up key) and flash the G870A_NE4_Stock_Kernel using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
4. Open the Towelroot app from your app drawer and press "Make it Rain" to root your device.
5. Power off then boot into "Download Mode" again and flash the G870A_NG3_Stock_Kernel also in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
6. Download SuperSu to manage root access. Done!
Troubleshooting:
1. If the NG3 OTA update fails consider flashing the G870AUCU1ANE4_Full_Odin.tar to return to stock then take the NG3 OTA update, (or place the G870A_NE4toNG3_OTA.zip onto your ext-sdcard and sideload from stock recovery). Once updated to NG3 continue to Step 2 above.
2. The most common cause of an Odin flash failure is a bad usb port or cable. Please check before reporting a failure.
Notes:
1. After flashing the NE4 kernel your phone may run a little wonky and towelroot may not root on the first try. If that happens reboot and try towelroot once again. Once rooted and after flashing the NG3 kernel your phone will once again run like a champ!
2. The above process will not affect your User Data or Knox Warranty Flag.

Am I totally screwed, or is there a magical fix that I could do? Thanks in advance!

[How-To] Root G900AUCU2ANG3

**Make certain that your reactivation lock in security settings is off before beginning this process**
1. Take the NG3 OTA update.
2. Download and install Towelroot-v3.apk(this version does not require internet access).
3. Place your phone into "Download Mode" (press and hold the Home, Volume Down, and Power keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press Volume Up key) and flash the G900A_ND3_Stock_Kernel using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
4. Open the Towelroot app from your app drawer and press "Make it Rain" to root your device.
5. Power off then boot into "Download Mode" again and flash the G900A_NG3_Stock_Kernel also using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
6. Install SuperSU to manage root access. Done!
Notes:
1. After flashing the ND3 kernel your phone may run a little wonky and towelroot may not root on the first try. If that happens reboot and try towelroot once again. Once rooted and after flashing the NG3 kernel your phone will once again run like a champ!
2. Following the above process will not affect your User Data or Knox Warranty Flag.
3. Should the NG3 ota update fail consider returning to stock NCE by flashing the G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+) then taking the NG3 OTA update (or place the G900A_NCEtoNG3_OTA.zip onto your ext-sdcard and sideload from stock recovery). Once updated to NG3 continue from Step 2 above.
Alternative Method for Safestrap Users:
1. Place the G900A_NG3_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM.zip onto your ext-sdcard.
2. Use Safestrap's Backup Function to back-up User Data.
3. From the Safestrap recovery perform an "Advanced Wipe" and wipe everything but your ext-sdcard.
4. Flash the G900A_NG3_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM.zip using Safestrap's "Stock Slot."
5. Then press "Home" then "Restore" and restore User Data.
6. Once complete press "Home" then "Reboot" and reboot into "Download" mode.
7. Last, flash the G900A_NG3_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
Notes:
1. The G900A_NG3_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM.zip process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery to NG3 but does not include the NG3 Bootloader.

It looks like I can't OTA to ND3 anymore. The software update gets me 160MB update directly from NCE reflash.

That's not a bad thing/ I can create a "KeepRoot" zip for it. Can you pull it from your cache/fota folder and upload it and send me a link? Thank you.

Yes. If you have any trouble re-installing safestrap using the apk just install SELinux Mode Changer from the Playstore and set to permissive.

Not necessary to rename before uploading.
I sent the file to you. However when I want to test install the file in stock recovery, I always get error and it will not update (but I can open in computer with 7zip or other programs). Not sure if the file itself has problem.

No. I ODIN back to NCE, no root. Then I rerun update from About/software update. It does download 162MB file, then boot into AT&T logo. It will update until 30% and reboot, then the firmware is still NCE.
I am starting to think the file that people download from NCE is actually the same as those with ND3. However the file expects ND3 so it won't install (hence I get the error both with running the app and install in recovery). Notice all those people saying update fail in another thread?

The NCE Odin .tar that you flashed does not contain the non-hlos.bin. The non-hlos.bin is in the BL file in that set of .tars which the OP tells you not to flash. Likely beacuse if you are on the ND3 bootloader your wifi may go out or your phone may run wonky if you flash the NCE non-hlos.bin.
Here is the NCE modem pkg including non-hlos.bin. Flash in PDA or AP slot in Odin: G900A_NCE_Stock_Modem
Just go into stock recovery after flashing and re-sideload the NG3 OTA. I will put together an All-in-One_NCE_Odin.tar with the non-hlos so that other won't run into this issue. Someone will have to test.

Introduction (will be deleted some time in the next couple days)
Hello everybody, I will be getting this phone next month and look forward to expanding this thread to cover more than just firmware and odin. I have made a few guides and have been told how easy it is to understand and follow compared to others. With that in mind I figured I would just nip this in the butt right now before someone beats me to the punch.
Other than odin I will also for sure be making a back to pure untouched stock for twrp which will flash the following stock images: system, kernel, modem, recovery and if we never see a locked bootloader rpm. This will have to wait until I have the phone because I refuse to make work public unless I have tested it on myself first.
Other than this first part of the op, it should stay more or less the same for the next month. post #2 will have a sandbox for the future of the op then it will turn into a spot to post answers to commonly asked questions.

No! Once it's tripped, it's done. No resetting it.
I tried using JOdin last night but it couldn't ever get my PIT file and never restarted my phone. It would just say that it failed. Can I use someone else's PIT file for the same model or does it need to be specific to my phone? SM-G920T is my model, if so.
I tried odin on a friend's windows computer and it never recognized my phone when I plugged it in in download mode. so i'm not sure what is going on. :/

Stuck on Stock Recovery help!

I am running Alliance 9.1 rom and I was searching for my Safestrap recovery. I didn't find it and so I tried busybox "reboot into recovery" script. Doing that made my phone go crazy "go to att and let the service tech" look at it. I can't boot into recovery as it gives me this error and I have to use ODIN to flash the BL file. Now I can't get into my phone because of a Pin. I think that the script from busy box is still running and if I can get passed my pin, I want to see if I can disable the script. My main issue is, can I use the aforementioned process to just start over? I was told I cannot use ODIN to flash to stock rom. I have already found out that I have tripped my knox counter. PLEASE HELP. THIS IS MY ONLY PHONE AND MY WIFE IS GOING TO KILL ME.
Thank you for your help.

Factory Reset my S6 with Odin No Network!

I rooted with ping pong root, followed these guides to do my "OTA" updates:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-flashfire-update-t3156221
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-to-of4-flashfire-update-t3181135
Then I used this file with Odin, to factory reset:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/odin-tar-files-sm-g920a-t3103835
Now it seems to have factory reset it but it says I have no IMEI, network unknown, etc....
I am suspecting that its something to do with those updates I did and flashing the Modem drivers, which maybe need to be downgraded now? or if i can update my software somehow with a legit version?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Gavin
To my understanding, the downgrade to OE2 from OE3 or OF4 causes these issues with the imei and such.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
from what I have gathered... seems right.
so I am thinking now if I can upgrade to OE3, or OF4 in a legit way... then my modem will work again....
but If i use the upgrades mentioned on those 2 threads, those are pre rooted? so ill just be rooted again (but working modem)
correct?
My files are working fine. the problem is that you're trying to keep root and the modem you flashed is NOT compatible with the bootloader you current have.
Sunderwear, no problem with your files at all, I think the problem is with me.
I am trying to remove root.
How can I put a bootloader on my device that will be compatible with my modem?
I had the same issues. I ended up using Odin to go to OCE, then OE2 then I used PPR to root, and used FF to go to OF3 then OF4. Cause a BUNCH of problemt so I went to BBuy and had them force a flash of the full OF4.
You could always try doing the Odin OI2 files and see if that leaves you fully updated with everything working. You will lose root and will not be able to downgrade.
Well, depending on your desired outcome (rootless OF4, or 5.1.1), you'll have to do slightly different things, both will wipe your phone completely.
To move to rootless OF4, just download the Full OTA from the bottom of the first post at this link this is where things get different.
The next step is to reboot your device to recovery, not download mode (hold power home and vol up). You may see a updating android icon, but nothing should be happening yet.
You should now see the manual menu for the recovery, select the sideload update option
On your computer with ADB, sideload the OTA zip Do not unplug your phone
Your phone should reboot and you're now running OF4 while rootless
For 5.1.1
Flash the ODIN files with ODIN
Please note, you must be already rooted for this to work: I made the same mistake of upgrading to of4. Here's what I did, and my phone works just awesome and is still rooted with the Of4 base band.
1. Odin 3.10.6 OCE2
2. Reboot, at this point you'll have no carrier signal/data.
3. Ping pong root, install flash fire.
4. Install Rayman's ROM, Clean ROM, or Dennis ROM with flashfire (wipe first!).
5. Download the of4 root update here. forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-to-of4-flashfire-update-t3181135 ONTO YOUR PC. unrar. Flash via Odin the two files you unrar'd according to these instructions:
In Odin put boot.tar.md5 in the AP slot.
Put modem.tar.md5 in the CP slot.
Leave all other settings alone and click start.

Reboot, and you should be up and running with cell data and carrier signal.

[GUIDE][G870A] Downgrade S5 Active MM6.0->LP5.0

DISCLAIMERI am not responsible for any damage done to your device. The following guide is to be used at your discretion, you are taking the risk of rendering your phone unusable. It is also advised to Factory Reset while following this guide, so backup, backup, backup! Only attempt if you are confident in doing so!
Marshmallow to LollipopA recent development has allowed us to root the G900A/G870A on 5.1.1., which you can find here. There is a guide for G900A users to downgrade from 6.0 to 5.0, but I wanted to provide a guide for Active users to do the same. Once you have downgraded to 5.0, you can root using this new method, or update to 5.1.1 and root. I was regretting my upgrade to MM, it wasn't worth the cost of root and custom roms, so this was exactly what I needed to love this phone again. Now, on to the guide.
Step 1
Download the necessary files using the following links:
G870A OF3 ODIN TARBALL
ODIN 3.11
Step 2
I will make the assumption you have the Samsung USB Drivers installed and can see your phone in File Explorer. Extract both of the downloaded files wherever you'd like, you'll have an Odin folder, and four files from the tarball: BL, AP, CP, and CSC files. Put them in their own folder, just to avoid any mistakes with flashing. Run Odin as Admin and you'll see 4 slots, which you'll fill with the 4 tar.md5 files you just extracted. You'll load the tar files into their appropriate slots, IE AP_* into the AP slot, and you will encounter delays as Odin reads and verifies the files.
Step 3
As a precaution, it's recommended to have your phone charged to at least 75%. Now to restart the phone into Download Mode, you do so by powering off the phone, then power on the phone holding the Volume Down + Home keys. Once in download mode, hook the phone up to your USB cable attached to your PC. (Most failed ODIN flashes are due to USB cables, you may need to try a few)
Step 4
Go back to Odin and you should see your phone show up in COM box. Once you've verified that the phone is showing up, verify that you have all of the tar files loaded into the appropriate slots, and push Start. You'll see the progress as each file is flashed, look for any error messages. Once everything is flashed, your phone should reboot and you'll see a green pass. At this point, I recommend doing a battery pull or hold down Volume Down + Home + Power keys until the phone reboots. Once it shuts off, immediately hold down Volume Up + Home to boot into recovery. Now just do a quick factory reset, wipe the cache, and reboot. You should now be back to OF3, you can verify this in recovery, or by going to About Device under Settings, under baseband it should read G870AUCU2BOF3.
Step 5
At this point, you can use the previously mentioned guide to obtain root. If interested, once you have root you can head over to the Unofficial List of Roms and use FlashFire to flash a shiny new rom.
I'd just like to thank @AptLogic for his contributions, as well as @719c6 for finding the OF3 tarballs.
Thanks a lot! Just wanted to report I downgraded successfully and will try to work on rooting next. Thanks!

The lowest you can downgrade to is OF3, which you can do by following the guide. The OF3 firmware uses the same bootloader as MM, so we were able to downgrade, NE4 uses an older bootloader, and we are not able to downgrade bootloaders.
Sorry.
How do install superSU on OF3?

It was linked in the OP, but it's in this thread. Apparently, they're having an issue getting it to root now, so if you get it to root, report feedback on the thread and make sure to keep it. I was lucky enough to downgrade, root, and flash my favorite rom, Xtrestolite. Finally have my phone running nice and smooth again, I won't be jeopardizing my root on this phone anymore.
Good luck!
I have install sussces kingroot but i replace superSU then it not complete

Are you using Supersume?
That app (it is paid) automatically uninstalls kingroot and replaces it with supersu, and as far as I know, you have to use it for everything to work properly.
Good luck!

Yea, refer to the linked root thread in OP, there was some modification to kingroot that broke the exploit. I haven't been there in a few days, not sure if they found a workaround yet.
It's unfortunate, but another method or workaround could pop up anytime.
Sorry.

I need more then that to go on. Off the top of my head, I'd recommend a different USB cable and also a verification that the PIT files were downloaded properly, as in, they aren't somehow corrupted.

With this guide could I change from the pb1 update? I'm on a g870a. If so what are my options?

Please, i want to know, does root work on this? I need root for my device. Thank
Just want to check, but for obtaining root I would follow Steps 1-6 in the OP linked guide and then do I follow through with Step 7 (flash 900a PreRooted OF3 ROM -- as described in the link) or do I jump straight to a new custom ROM?
If it helps, I'm trying to flash this ROM (XtreStoLite) to my 870a, which should work based on this post

Im already on OF3, but when I try to install the "combination" file from the guide you mention, ODIN doesnt install anything, tried different PC , usb ports, and usb cables aswell. is this the only way to get root? I mean it would be easier if we had a TWRP working for our device.
That's not for the active. It's for the 900A
