[Q] HTC One on ATT or Tmobile?

I am currently on ATT with the Samsung Galaxy S III and I was thinking about switching to TMobile since they have unlimited data and also because ATT has the locked bootloader. The problem is, I am scared of switching to a new service provider. I tried asking around the office and I can't find ANYONE that has TMobile (At least not in the past year or two).
So my question is for people who currently have TMobile. How is the coverage? The speed? There isn't LTE here for TMobile but there is for ATT but I read that the 3.5g that TMobile has is pretty fast.
Any advice either way?
P.S. Please don't go out of your way bashing the other carriers, I am just asking to help me pick the best network for myself and my HTC One. If you have had both carriers, feel free to comment on both. But if you haven't had ATT, please don't bash it (and vice versa)
Once again, if you have had TMobile in the past year or so, please let me know what you think of it.

AT&T HTC One running on T-Mobile 3G. My town finally got refarmed the phone constantly bounces around EDGE, H, and H+ = Battery Drain
But the speeds are pretty impressive, well compared to EDGE. I can literally walk around the house and have it switch between Data Speeds.
Coverage within the City is constant full bars, but now that they started refarming the area it's spotty 3G. For me though it's worth it. AT&T in my area has better coverage when it comes to the suburban areas, but the prices do not compare T-Mobile wins hands down.

It all depends on where you live. If you have service nothing is better value than T-Mobile in my opinion.

Well in my opinion I have had t mobile, Verizon and at&t. It all comes down to service I get 20-50 mbps on art lte constantly, T-Mobile can be iffy from time to time if in a rural area and well the price if unlimited plus the price of paying for the phone each month comes close to att. The one thing over the years I have learned is loyalty can go a long way and when your needing that upgrade early it does pay off being with your provider for a while. I hope this helps out and this is just an opinion of mine.

Tmobile of you got good coverage in your area.

I am in the same boat, I've had Tmobile in the past and while the customer service is 10x better than AT&T I could never stick with them due to coverage being an issue. However, the area has recently been upgraded and coverage seems to be much better so I think I'm going to switch soon. Not to mention AT&T stopped offering military discount, while Tmo has the best military discount of any carrier.

Yeah, it really depends where you live. Minneapolis area has great coverage. I plan on switching back to them in June (currently on AT&T).

So I ended up buying 2 HTC Ones from TMobile, they put a hold on my bank account for 300 dollars and then they cancelled the order. I called them to ask them what was up and they said they are cancelling all HTC One pre-orders that are placed because of an IT issue where the processing system doesn't think any HTC Ones are in stock.
But they are letting the system hit my credit to check if I can get the phone and they are charging my bank account even though they know the system will cancel the order at the end.
That along with the fact I'm not quite sure how good coverage/speed is in Toledo, OH has made my mind up. I'm staying with AT&T.

Your just the guy I'm looking for. I'm currently on att with the HTC ONE, but thinking about going to tmobile's prepaid $30 plan. The coverage in Charlotte NC looks good, but I'm not exactly sure because I haven't used it. However, $30 is a great savings. While your out and about, your getting hspa +? But it switches constantly between hspa + and edge?

this is awesome, hopefully sprint catches on and does something similar. Sprints international rates are atrocious! Although the One does have removable SIM capabilities, it would cut down the hassle of acquiring one in a different country and possibly having to cut it to microsim specs.

I regret my decision of staying with sprint every day. It takes me over 2 minutes to do a simple Google search on sprints network in my area that is supposedly in an LTE zone. The network is atrocious and they keep saying theyre upgrading the towers but it's been almost a year and if anything it's only gotten worse. The only thing that stopped me from going to T-Mobile was their terrible coverage in Michigan. Here's hoping this announcement gets Sprint moving to finally deploying a data network that is usable.

This is not going to happen. T mobile is on a roll. There network is better. There plans are better and there upgrade plan is better. They are taking the other threes customers daily. They are going to surpass sprint very quickly if they haven't and their lte coverage has already surpassed sprint. Sprint still doesn't care and sprints lte network as a whole is terrible. Yeah some people post some big speeds but for the most part most of us are not impressed. If t mobile has the monetary status to roll out their lte network like this so does sprint. T mobile was almost dead a year and a half ago. Sprint put in an lte network to say they are lte. Nothing more. Sorry sprint. T mobile has +42 hspa and lte. Why are we still here? Contract up in June and I'll bet t mobile has lte before sprint where I live so this is my last with sprint. End RANT!

What T-Mobile is doing for pricing and their offering is amazing. I really hope it spurs some real price competition from Sprint. Their 3G coverage in my area is total crap though, EDGE only in all of Bristol TN/VA and pretty much the entire areas around Johnson City and Kingsport. My biggest beef with T-Mobile is trust though. How do you trust a carrier that tried to sell their customer's out to the death star (AT&T)?
I do think Sprint is going to continue bleeding customers to T-Mobile unless they can do this:
-Provide some kind of similar free throttled international data, at the very least to Canada and Mexico.
-Go "no contract"
-Add sites to fix terrible 1900MHz LTE coverage in many areas where all their current towers have been upgraded but coverage still sucks, or hurry up on the tri-band phones and rollout of 800MHz LTE
-Lower the prices a bit
-Family plan price changes. Sprint's family plans are the worst deal out of the 4 carriers, and it's hard to make a worse deal than Verizon.
-Wifi calling on their phones would be better than the Airave program that I know costs Sprint lots of money
Basically, if Sprint would copy a lot of T-Mobile's ideas and fix serious issues with their LTE rollout, they'd be in a much better position. Sprint customer service is already better than T-Mobile, and that's pretty much the only selling point compared to T-Mobile besides superior non-LTE coverage. If things don't change soon, those selling points may become moot.

If their service was better in the first place. We wouldn't need it so much. So as for this being a selling point. No good. T mobile has already surpassed sprint in their lte rollout. And at the pace they are moving they are definitely putting improvements from monetary gains immediately back in the company. It won't be long at this pace and the approach they have in winning customers that they will continue to move quickly in their customer gains and ranking. Their lte just came second to att and beat att in 20 markets. Sprint is doing nothing but putting lte on existing towers. Therefore until they actuall will not improve coverage but just provide lte when we are close enough to a tower. Softbanks acquisition of sprint hasn't showed any improvements of the speed of deployment of lte. We already have the networks vision implemented where I live and there is honestly no improvement in call quality nor 3g speeds other than once in a while. I live 1.6 miles from a tower that has the netwot vision improvements and I have to use an airrave. Makes my stomach turn honestly. I've asked them why I need the airrave. The tower is literally on my street and I can't make a call from home without the airrave. T mobile has made improvements where I live and many people I know have moved from sprint to tmobile.

I live 3/4 of a mile from a tower and only get 1-2 bars inside without the Airave. I feel your pain. My T-Mobile friends cannot use their phones in my house at all unless they switch it to Wi-Fi calling.
T-Mobile is an absolute joke in this rural area. Right now they're only a serious option in cities, and nothing has changed regarding their coverage in my area or surrounding areas, so I have no reason to suspect this will change. Sprint has 3G all along I-81 even in rural southwest VA, whereas T-Mobile has only EDGE in SWVA for 3 hours from the state line, and they have only EDGE between the Tri Cities and Knoxville. Sprint has also added LTE to much of this area, for example the Greeneville, TN and Bristol, TN/VA markets have LTE from Sprint but only Edge from T-Mobile. T-Mobile LTE has not touched any region within 3 hours of me besides Asheville NC. My friend just drove up to Athens, OH on T-Mobile and was roaming for 5 hours of the 7 hour drive because T-Mobile has crap rural coverage. There is Sprint 3G coverage on that entire drive and 4G for the first hour.
If you live in a city T-Mobile may be great for you, but it's still not an option for most rural or semi-rural people.

[Q] T-Mobile vs Verizon for N6?

Hey everyone, I am looking for some opinions here. I live in Atlanta, GA and have just switched to Verizon from T-Mobile. Originally, I purchased iPhone 6+ and am now using the Nexus 6. I still am debating which I will use day to day, but, I have had nothing but issues with Verizon.
Without too much detail... rep that helped us migrate 3 business lines screwed up. As a result we had a lot of calls with care and managers and ended up getting 30gb of shared web for price of 10gb as well as close to $400 worth of credits atop of $450 in 2 cycles for switching. Great deal overall and helps a ton to cover device costs!
I had no issues with T-Mobile but my business partner is going to Dallas more where he had spotty coverage. On Verizon, he was great there but here... we have issues. From voice quality being much worse than Tmobile (even on VOLTE) to slower data speeds to 3G where we have LTE on T-Mobile. Now, with Nexus 6 I at least will get HSPA while on call with T-Mobile, compared to 0 data on verizon. There are places I get nearly 80mbps on Verizon, but it is cancelled out by overall mediocre performance.
I completely understand that Verizon has amazing coverage and better in-building penetration. However, Tmobile has made huge strides to become a very good data network in many metro areas. While calculating costs, after all credits, we would come out pretty even going back and won't save too much money.
So, given all that, is it worth staying on Verizon? Am I simply seeing greener grass on the other side? I am also worried that with Verizon it will be ages before nexus 6 will get VOLTE and Voice + Data.
Now, I am researching a lot about spectrum and what each carrier is deploying and for some reason T-Mobile just seems to be better when it comes to LTE tech, newly acquired spectrum and overall voice + data.

I was a Verizon customer for 11 years and switched to T-Mobile about 1 and half years ago. Couldn't be happier. Wished there was an easy answer gl with your decision

Thanks! Yea, indeed. From one angle I am thinking that the extra coverage is worth it, specially considering how so many others pay way more than what my plan costs. From another, I am seeing such inconsistent service and decreased voice quality makes it hard to want to stay on Verizon. I do like seeing 75mpbs sometimes though .
I rarely had service issues on T-Mobile everywhere I went around the city, now, it is a daily routine on Verizon.

Sounds like you've somewhat made your decision then
75mbps or 25mbps it doesn't matter to me but to some it might (I get 50mbps down and 25 up). Love HD voice it's crystal. What I love most though? That I am no longer with the big red corp and am with the most innovative and exciting carrier of the last 2 years

Haha i hear ya. To me, anything over 5mbps is good as on mobile it all loads instant and videos buffer fast. So im not crazy in thinking that tmobile has an overall more advanced network?

Good question I really don't know. I don't think you're crazy for thinking that. Tmo has turned the carrier world upside down and I believe all subscribers of all carriers can thank tmo for their lower prices and higher GB data plans.
I had to drop vzw because we moved 1 1/2 yrs ago to suburb of Atlanta and it's a vzw dead spot. No prob with tmo though. Blessing in disguise

So you pretty much live by me sounds like. Interesting, that just means that it may not just be me then. At first I thought it was either my phone or the sim, verizon replaced both though. It seems like service always bounced between 2 and 4 bars of LTE at my house which creates random results. At times I could be getting 2mbps down while another verizon phone is getting 50, and vice versa. Speed isn't eveytbing, but there is no consistency and added with bad voice quality even on volte... A week ago I drove out towards Lawrenceville to help a friend look for a car and I kept dropping to 3G or having data so bad that even mobile sites would not load. My gf has T-Mobile and I grabbed her phone to test, she was literally getting 40 Mbps to my 1!

Haha! I live in mableton/Smyrna area. I have great coverage on tmo where ever I go in and around Atlanta. Especially now with the moto N6 its radios rock. 3g on vzw is like edge on tmo. They're both painful. I rarely if ever have seen edge in and around Atlanta on tmo (only one spot I know of) but often saw 3g on vzw. Tmos hspa/umts is super fast

How is voice on n6? I popped Tmobile sim in it and it wasn't very good when I tried. I've read that volte and hd voice won't come to n6 on Tmobile till early 2015? Yea, I always told people about how good hspa on Tmobile was lol. It killed LTE on most carriers originally. Other than having a little higher ping.

Already has HD voice spoke with it today. Volte will be a while yeah. I think voice quality is great, HD and non-hd

If anyone else has any input, greatly appreciated. I downloaded root metrics app and looking at places I go T-Mobile seems to have much stronger data than verizon. Although, voice coverage seems a tab better on verizon.

if you live out in the country, or spend lots of time out there, then tmobile is not for you. i love tmobile, and they have wonderful data speed where i live(70mbps download/30mbps upload. southern brooklyn), but out in the country, they arent so good. in cities, they are wonderful.

Former Sprint customers

I'm thinking about jumping from sprint been with them 10 years. But the service is just getting worst and worst. My question is to the folks that have jump ship how happy are you with the service is it a noticeable difference.

You realize you never stated where you from state town so someone in your area can answer you. Right. We like to help but are not mind readers. Sprint sucks plain and simple. You need to ask people in your area what service is like.

I had been with Sprint for 11 years in South Florida. After being tired of dealing with slow data and not having LTE in many areas I did some research. Used Sensorly and OpenSignal. You can use the app or website and see who has stronger service or LTE coverage in your area. FOr me it was T-Mobile and the speeds I've been getting are 30 times better on average. It was a huge difference after switching. I suggest looking at coverage in your area using the sites I mentioned and find what's best for you.

i just switched back to tmobile from sprint and the difference is night and day. bay area, ca my data on sprint is around 7mbps and tmobile is around 70mbps. the voice quality on sprint was so bad and my calls were dropping almost every call. one of the other reasons i switched was the fact the note 4 on sprint can no longer do simultaneous voice and data currently (at least in my area).

It was a huge difference after switching. I suggest looking at coverage in your area using the sites I mentioned and find what's best for you.

I just jumped ship yesterday. You will NOT regret leaving sprint. Unless you like watching 5 min YouTube video in 15 minutes... lol

Exactly! ! You will not regret it. Go to a Tmobile store. Download speed test app. Run on your phone and a Tmobile phone and tell me the difference lol

Yes! The note 4 supports voice over lte meaning i talk and browse the web with great speeds. But tmobile is gsm so in general yes you have that ability, i switched from sprint three years ago...before they even had lte,tmobile was still 100x better than sprint...i live in west palm beach and we just got wideband lte...and its faster than my comcast speeds.

i left sprint in october. im in los angeles... do not regret going to tmo.

The wifi calling helps with service in the house. Calling in the basement without issues.
In my general area I get good 4G lte service. Though I don't use the data much outside of the house, 1GB plan is fine for me.
For my wife the free unlimited music streaming was a big draw. She tops 3GB per month with that but is on a 1GB plan with no worries.
Sprint was slow to roll out 4G (for the second time) in my area and still hadn't two years into my ltevo contract.
Overall tmobile has better 4G coverage. I pay more money per month though. I had a discount with sprint and the phones were subsidized so it was like $120 per month. tmobile is $140 per month for two phones (iphone6 and note4). If I'm going to pay more why not consider verizon?
Occasionally I go to some more remote areas and I'm waiting to see what the coverage is like there.
Because with sprint I had none. But people with verizon had service.
I was recently in one of those area (outside of gettysburg PA) and while I had bars there was no data service. I couldn't use navigation. I was bummed. But most people didn't have service either. This is why I have a backup gps unit.

its not even just the speed; you will not drop calls any more, and if you want/need it, T Mobile will give you an Asus AC router for wifi calls in your house, for free!
Sprint sucks; I had them twice for a total of 11 years, and after the wimax debacle, I was hoping the "Spark" network would be their saving grace, but it wasnt.
10 months on t mobile, zero issues, great customer service, and never a dropped call..

Yes they do. I talk and download regularly with no drop in download speed.

How is team mobil

Guys been with sprint 15 years I have a note 3 which I am able to do voice and data simultaneously. I am trying to update but non of the phones aprint offers are abke to do that. So i am lookjng around. What are the experience on team mobil? What to look for what sucks whats good thanks

A lot depends on location and where you may travel. I live in KC (home of Sprint) and had Sprint for 4 years before I switched to T-Mobile earlier this year. In KC where Sprint advertises they are the #1 carrier my T-Mobile service blows them out of the water. For data I would get 5 to 7 mbps down on Sprint and on T-Mobile I get 12-20+ . However I went to a wedding in the middle of no-where Iowa and did not have service most of the time. I have also been to Omaha for business and can have great service at one spot and then a few blocks away no service. My son also had problems when he was there and was going to go in to a T-Mobile store, but there were none in Omaha. So to be location is the biggest issue.
I am on a 4 line 10gb per month per line plan, the 10gb is LTE then it goes to 2x data (not that I have gone over 10gb in a month). Three of the lines have the data stash built up to 20GB so we will always have LTE. My son who streams all the time on his phone this month is at 28GB used on the network, but only 9GB used on plan because of Binge On, he also had 9GB in his data stash (since YouTube was added to Binge On). He does not have cable in his apartment and they have a wifi cap on their internet plan so he does not connect to Wifi even at home. This has worked great for him. He is in a smaller college town in Missouri and has very good coverage there as well.
I am paying less for T-Mobile than Sprint and with the Jump On Demand, have had the Note 5, S7 Edge and now the Note 7 since I started in January. I could not be happier and unless they drop Jump on Demand or their coverage get worse (both unlikely) I would not switch to another carrier if they even beat T-Mobiles price by a few dollars.

I have had all phone carriers and tested many many devices of the years. There are 2 absolute truths about the cellular industry.
1. The Hardware you use can affect the level of service
2. The service you select has strong areas and weak ones.
To give an example. I am in Sacramento, CA on T-Mobile. I just Jumped to the Note 7 because the iPhone 6S Plus I was on kept dropping data and calls in the states capital. Knowing that equipment and switches in the towers can "not get along very well" I decided to try the Note 7 in the exact same areas. I have had 100% LTE coverage with very fast data in all areas but on T-Mobile still.
So the trick is finding the right Phone and the Right service. I personally like T-Mobile the best right now after trying all carriers. They have great data and voice coverage for me in my area and places I have been and they offer many more benefits and respect me more as a customer than Big Red or Baby Blue. I did not have the best experience on Sprint in my area regardless of the device.
The cost and benefits are what continue to make me a happy T-Mobile customer. I do think Android devices are superior in connectivity and customization but iPhone hands down has a more seamless out of the box user experience. I would not give my note 7 up for one again though.

I've had T-Mobile for 12 years now and would never go to another. As stated above location does matter, at my house I have 4-5 Mbps and just 3 miles to the North I get around 50 Mbps. At home I'm on wifi most of the time but data is usually enough to use as a hotspot when the internet is down.

I live in central Florida, and we just moved our family plan from Sprint to T-Mobile, after 13 years. After 1 week so far on T-Mobile, i don't regret it 1 bit! What good is unlimited data on Sprint, if it's unusable? Time will tell I guess, but so far, I'm happy!

I love T-Mobile, they really shake up whole phone industry and 60mbps lte at my home plus wifi calling (which nobody else had until just couple yrs ago) does help, but even oh so vain VZ has dead spots (been there), so maybe get 1 month prepaid SIM card and see how it works in your area to be sure? But probably local T-mo shop would be the best place to ask. Best thing about T-mo: no contract (thank you T-mo for bringing it in) except for phone payments , if you buy it on instalments, so if you not happy, pay off the phone, sell it and be on your marry way

Yes all GSM network are voice and data at the same time after Edge(2G).
Been with all 4 major carriers since the 90's (work reasons) and we dropped Sprint roughly 5 years ago. We helped them build a tower on the property and they tried to can us and make up pay the ETF for excessive roaming... How do you figure that one when everyone they canned and lost our numbers when we are less than 1/10 a mile from their tower we can see out the window.
T-Mobile if they have the coverage they are the best bang for your buck. Sorry, but I can not for the life of me paying 40% less than Verizon, but only gettinf 20% of the coverage in places of travel.
Take T-Mobile Jump on Demand if you switch. If they don't have the coverage you need they'll unlock your phone and let you switch carriers(you still have to pay payments for your phone).

You must be going to pretty far away places, because before I switched I had VZ and my friend had T-mo. We travelled together along east coast, from NY to Fla and we were dead even as far as coverage, except Everglades, where T-mo had some spotty signal and VZ didn't, that was the day I switched and never looked back. This was few yrs ago, but if anything things are better now. VZ usually has better coverage in less populated areas, but not as much as you make it and in most higher population areas like whole east coast, they're pretty much even. Of course if you dont have signal and you need it, you dont care, if it was the only place in whole US, but my wife called me on t-mo sim card over wifi from China, for free. Try that on VZ .

That's high populated places... outside that Verizon and AT&T win hands down. Also there have been numerous times in populated places like San Francisco where T-Mobile has little to no coverage in many parts. My job requires me to be in on multiple places in a single city. If the coverage was like how you think it is Verizon wouldn't be our main provider. Yes they have gotten better but not as good as the media or you experienced.
