Text and SMS display via bluetooth - MTCB Android Head Units General

Looking for opinions and suggestions for enabling texts and SMS messages to display on the MTCB unit while driving. What, if anything are you guys using?
I searched around already, and found one thread where someone was using tasker and other functions to get messages displayed on the unit from their phone, but that solution didn't appear to be very reliable.
Is there an app that everyone is using? Or am I just late to the party? lol
I realize quite a few of you are using 3G connections with your MTCB, so this conversation is more geared towards those utilizing their Bluetooth only phone connection.

Even using a 3G/4G dongle cannot solve the SMS reception problem because these SMS are normally sent to the phone number, not to the 3G/4G SIM number. At most the dongle can be used to send SMS.
ATM no easy solution to this problem (and for social networks use too).

Have you looked at Tablet Talk? I'm not sure it would work over BT since the BT in these devices is locked down, but I believe there is also the option of using Wifi.

The other thread was mine and I was looking for the same thing
As mentioned above, I don't think it's actually possible with these units since it seems the Bluetooth is locked down. Can't remember the specific details but I'm sure it's to do with the Bluetooth service that handles the messages.
I could be wrong though but I know its not possible with tasker anyway and I don't think tablet talk works with Bluetooth cause I looked into that too. At the moment the way I do it is through data which as you say isn't quite as reliable
If you find anything though let me know

That's why I started this thread, to see if anyone had made any breakthroughs since your initial post. I went ahead and wasted the money on Tablet Talk, and I can confirm that the Bluetooth connection is the issue (Error Code:1) with our units. This seems like such a basic feature that Android would be capable of... my wife's Jeep does it automatically in Uconnect.
One thing I was considering trying with TabletTalk is to go into the factory settings, with the 126 password, and toggle around the Bluetooth type the unit is currently using. I know saving anything in this menu will effectively reset my unit, unless I save settings in Xposed, so I need a block of time to try it that I don't have right now. If it would even make a difference.

Dial-Up Connection

Hey guys! New here, just got my Kaiser. And I apologize if this has been posted before, but I searched and found WAY to many results, and was having a hard time narrowing down.
Does anyone know how to use DIALUP on the Kaiser? I have my dialup number and set it up as a connection, but it always fails.
I was just curious to get this to work as I currently dont have a dataplan because most places I go have WIFI - cept to and from work, so it would be nice just to hop on and burn some minutes just reading the news.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Actually, since I am here I might as well post other questions that I have thought of:
Is there a way to use the GPS without paying a monthly fee VIA a different program? AND is a dataplan needed for that?
Is there a way to use my currently Motorola HS850 headset to listen to music, etc?
Is there away to have the alarm on the phone sound even if I have the phone on silent? I have always used my cells as my alarm clock, but I need to turn the ringer off at work, and sometimes forget when i get home.
Again, I apologize if any of these have been posted. But if someone is more familar with the search functions on this forum, hopefully you can direct me to the right place.
Thanks in advance!
from what i've been told Att disabled your ability to use dial up, so if you've got att service you're sol. if not then ya might get an answer from someone else...
gps you can use it over the net...but either you need a data plan or else pay per use on the net kb's...
i dont know what the hs850 is. however there are many adapters from mini usb to whatever. i just picked one up for mini usb to 3.5mm headphone jack/usb, works great.
Yeah. I just grabbed a USB off ebay!

What is Remote Sim Mode?

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knows what "Remote Sim Mode" is on Captivate? I recently upgraded to Froyo from android 2.1. I noticed that whenever I turn on my "bluetooth" on my Captivate, the bluetooth icon will show up. If I push the "bluetooth" button again, a message will show up saying that "Remote Sim Mode Activated". I never seen this message on android 2.1.

Hope that helps!

But if you had done it 7 days, before this thread existed, it would not have brought you to this thread.
Google is the internet users best friend. A couple key strokes and some good know-how and you can find anything you want.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SEARCHING FOR REMOTE SIM MODE, THERE WASN'T A CLEAR SEARCH TERM BUT BROKE IT DOWN INTO SMALLER TERMS IN GOOGLE BEING "REMOTE SIM BLUETOOTH".
RESULT:
SIM Access Profile (SAP, SIM, rSAP)
This allows devices such as car phones with built in GSM transceivers to connect to a SIM card in a phone with Bluetooth, thus the car phone itself doesn't require a separate SIM card. This profile is also known as rSAP (remote-SIM-Access-Profile).

Saying "Google is your friend" is a failed attempt at saying "I Don't Know".
So please instead of acting like some prissy tech know it all, why not actually contribute something useful to the conversation instead of getting your jollies off by being a smart ass?
I mean not all of us are some lonely geek sitting in their parents basement getting off on some image board, spouting off memes like they are gospel...
It's people like you that make tech forums like this unbearable when it comes to the sharing of knowledge and information. At the very least if you were so wise and sage, you could have posted a link supplying the answer.
But no, you couldn't even take the time out of your busy trolling to even do that. You have to be all cute and cool and go "Google is your friend".
Yes, Google is our friend, it brought us to this place and met idiots such as yourself. Google is an infinitely better friend than you could ever hope to be.

Ouch, haha. A bit harsh maybe, but well said.
I also had less-than-stellar luck when googling "remote sim mode" when my phone decided to put itself there. Soooo don't hate on us just cause we come here hoping for a little bit more clearly stated answers. :-/
Thanks
It just really irks me because these forums exist for a reason. Yes, I will agree that most people don't take the time to look through the forums. But on the other hand, looking through hundreds of posts can be a bit daunting at times too especially if your a noob which can get discouraging.
It's a forum, not IRC. Instead of cluttering it up with nonsense and bickering... just give the answer or shut up...
Now... with that being said, this is what I have discovered: The Bluetooth remote sim mode has something to do with connecting to your cars Bluetooth receiver so that you can make phone calls from your car to your phone.
Why it automatically comes on after you turn off the Bluetooth radio via the drop down menu is beyond me.
So you open up the drop down menu and you push the module and it comes up with "Deactivate Remote SIM mode?" dialogue box.
Click Yes it ideally turns it off. Click No it cancels out of the dialogue box. Clicking yes however... doesn't seem to do anything anyways which is the problem we all seem to be running into.
So what do we do? Well we can reset our phones. Cognition v2.2Beta8 has a nice little reset option when you long hold down the lock button on the side.
Of course this gets kinda annoying every single time.
All is not lost though. What you can do is this: Go into Settings>Wireless and Network>Bluetooth settings and turn on/off Bluetooth from there.
If Bluetooth is off, you can just turn it on from the drop down menu. However if it is on and you want it off, I would suggest turning it off from the settings menu.
When you uncheck the green checkmark that says "Bluetooth", three things are going to happen. One, your going to turn off the Bluetooth Radio. Two, in the status bar there is going to be a message saying "Remote Sim Mode Activated". Three, and this is what we are trying to accomplish, a small dialogue box is going to pop up on the bottom saying "Remote Sim Mode Deactivated". This is essentially what we want to happen.
I don't know why it works this way. However I have noticed that there are a few quirks in the drop down menu from time to time. Perhaps this is just one of the more prevalent ones.
I hope this helped a bit. I'm not a developer or a programmer, just a modder who likes tweaking and likes to learn from the devs who take a lot of time and effort in to making our devices work better. I also hope that you don't mistake the inconsiderate, idiotic reply of "cappysw10" as the general attitude of people who post on this forum.
Most of the people here are pretty cool and are more than willing to help out
Good Luck and happy modding
I agree, these forums are getting hard to ask and get answers in withlut smart butt comments and flaming. Even when posted in the right place! Its getting out of control. : ( I dont post often, but read ALL the time. Some of us need REAL help. I actualy did Google this very remote sim trouble, found NO good help. Went back to stock. Waiting a real fix.
Little harsh but necessary I guess
I am reaaly not sure what remote similar implies is going on but if I turn my Bluetooth back on and the back off it deactivates
Captivate
Cog 2.2
mine acted stupid first time and has been shutting off appopriately since. It still pops up but cancels itself. CoG 9

Hey thanks! Googled remote sim first thing, found out what it was and that it doesn't apply to me. Came to this forum to find an answer and YOU PROVIDED ONE YAY! Not necessarily happy with how the drop-down reacts but knowing how to avoid that annoying message is VERY USEFUL! And I only had to wade through a few message to find your answer! DOUBLE YAY!!
hey all thanks for the thanks! I'm glad that I was able to help a bit with a few observations.
Just a few more before I go, It would seem to me that the entire notifications drop down menu is buggy.
For me, none of the buttons work as they should whether it be WiFi, bluetooth, etc...
Just about all of those functions have to be set in the settings dialogue that I mentioned about before.
I haven't update Cognition in a month now, so he might have gotten to fixing it by now, I cannot say.

Thank you. Best one-liner in a while. I also agree that if a question is asked and your response isn't toward answering the question it's fruitless.
Either answer or don't. I respect either but the taking up of space that doesn't contribute to the solution is useless.
(Much like my response. )
Hope this helps
Idk what causes this or why or how to fix it, BUT if you just turn the bluetooth back on and then off again it deactivates the remote sim. You don't have to do it through the settings, you can use the drop down menu or if u have the control panel widget you can use that. Just on and then off again. Hopefully this will get fix cuz it is annoying to have to push the button two extra times.

Remote Sim Mode
I guess no one actually found out what this is. Just a question did you have your bluetooth connected to your cars bluetooth handsfree? I know I have a handsfree in my car built in, from what I've read on wikipedia it has something to do with the car having a remote connection through the sim card in the phone. Maybe if your phone has the bluetooth on it still has a paired setting for your car and turning it off calls up this remote sim mode thing to show up. I don't know but I believe this is what causes this. When you turn it off and turn it back on it doesn't appear again after you turn the bluetooth back on. I've noticed this only if I connect with the car and turn the bluetooth off on the phone.

Did you not read the thread? It was answered in post #8.
Also it doesn't matter if the phone is synced to your cars handsfree or not. My phone does it when its connected to my car, not connected to my car, sending a file over Bluetooth, really anytime I toggle BT on and off. Its impartial to the situation in which Bluetooth is activated.

Phone Calls with N7 3G

Hi to all,
in these days, i was wondering if at this state there is a solution to enable via software the Phone Calls and SMS system on the Nexus 7 3G.
I read that Google released the binaries of the 4.2.2, could be useful to work on it and enable this function ?
Sorry for this stupid question, but probably i bought a wrong device, because i supposed to use it as phone and tablet but i discovered that 3g work only for data...
If there is any simple or complicate solution, i will be grateful to anyone.
Im sorry if i posted on the wrong section yesterday (develepers)
Thanks
Well you can try the Google voice/grooveIP combo. Everything will run on your data as it doesn't have regular phone capabilities. But you can set it up to operate exactly like a phone if you are so inclined.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
You also might try Talkatone. I have a non-3g n7, Talkatone works better for me than GrooveIP. Mainly on wifi, but also works fine on my 4g wifi hot spot device. I've dropped my cell service, use both my phone and n7 on wifi only.
Thanks

Thanks for your prompt reply.
Its not a must have, but the main reason was to leave the Phone and use the USIM on the Tablet. My first intent was to have just one subscription to a service. So use the Tablet with a bluetooth earset as phone...
Probably this was not a smart idea, i guess...but the damage is done... (as we say in Italy).
I hope there is a simple solution somewhere, in the mean time i would like to root the device and enable tethering for the future...
Thanks again for your support.

SMS issues continue - AA is rubbish

Like so many others, I keep experiencing countless issues with AA informing me that it doesn't know how to send a text, that it's still learning of that it needs to gather more information. I'm on a Samsung S10 5G in a Kia Soul. First I tried a new cable. No help. I tried clearing the phone's cache. No help. Have tried multiple messaging apps. No help. (Currently using Pulse). Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.
How rubbish Rodney?
I don't understand your question. Its lack of consistency in doing things like simple sending/reading of SMS messages makes even the iPhone solution much more usable.
He is saying AA is crap and he is looking for a suitable working alternative.
I'm afraid I don't know how to do that. But I'm still learning *grin*
That's just it, I don't know. Are we stuck with it? Is there any app that can unify multiple apps and put them on the car's screen? I don't think so. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Apple's implementation of something is better than Google's.
In my truck not only does the factory head unit ask to read calls and text via Bluetooth but also via android auto. It could be possible that the two techs are competing and causing errors. One thing that may revel clue to or two is to park and open Matt log with your phone plugged in as you normally do and have someone send you texts and look for any errors.

Thanks! One question: What's Matt log? AA has also started saying something along the lines of, "Sure, but first let me get some more information" - around this point the voice generally fades out and I can't here anything else, but sometimes it also continues with - "select the prompt on your device" but there's never a prompt.
With my car it only works via the steering wheel controls when the phone is connected via the USB cable. I might have to see how it works with just OK Google.
I thought this one was fixed... but every time I've tried to send a text lately "OK Google text X person" ti gives me let me gather some more information... then nothing. Am I doing something wrong, or is texting through assistant on AA broken?

Q: System-App com.oppo.wifisniffer ?

Hi,
I'm using the latest stock version and wonder what the system-app com.oppo.wifisniffer is doing. I know it would be stupid to name an app like that if it would actually intercept my wifi and sniff for sensitive data. So i wondered if there is any intel out there about this system-app. (I actually think there is another thread on XDA with a similar question which has no answers at all...)
Is someone experiencing strange behaviour with their connected wifi?
Did someone reverse this app? (can't find much online though)
Anyway, some clearing up would be nice for my conscience...

I found that this app is in oppologkit. While we dial *#800# then oppologkit screen will appear .Settings-->Wifi-->Wifisniffer.Dont know for what purpose they provided that.
"wifisniffer" sounds like the software that detects available wifi to me. the phone also has an option that connect to the best wifi available automatically. not sure how you jumped to thinking it may be stealing your credentials lol. You should worry about every process run by the phone if you suspect as much lol.

You are completely right, nevertheless just to know what apps are doing is kinda calming thought, isn't it? As the term "sniffer" is usually used in another way than connecting to the best wifi available...
Anyway thanks for your answers ...
