Always on display? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just wanted to ask you devs from the technical stand point is it possible to port this feature to the note 5?

[Q] Galaxy Note GT-N7000 will get Samsung Galaxy S4 Features?

Are we Galaxy Note I going to have Galaxy S4 features? There are news that S3 and Note 2 will have it. Hope XDA dev could port some for us.
Don't even know if the note is going to get another update. But yeah s4 has some non hardware depended feature like smart pause which may work
Well its too early to say as its just unpacked but i believe that Dev will start working on it once it hits the streets to port as many features as possible until any specific hardware is missing for that feature :good:

What are the chances?

What are the chances that somebody can port over the ToucWiiz from the S6 and make a rom out that for the Note 4? I know that Lollipop is being rolled out next week. Was thinking that perhaps that the new TouchWiz from the S6 can or will work with the Note4? If not no big deal was only a thought that it could work and make the Note 4 look and feel even better.
We be very short on devs at this point I doubt it. They resting up for when official is released.
BAD ASS NOTE 4

Most Compelling feature to buy Note 8

As all the Samsung enthusiasts would know by now that, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is Officially out. Let us discuss here, would you buy Note 8; if so, what is the most compelling reason for you to buy it.
Practically, I feel Note 8 is just a blown out version of S8+ with Stylus and Dual Camera. But it is just my thought. Let us find what other like you think about the product?
Consider the 4th Option 6.3'' Quad HD+ Display as 6 GB RAM. Sorry for the Typo
NOTE:
Sure there many other features (some listed below) that exists too, but these features do exist in S8+. My intention is just to know, what makes you to choose Note 8 instead of S8+ (that have all the features that are listed below)
Snapdragon 835 chip/Exynos 8895 10 nm FinFET Processor
IP 68 Water & Dust Resistant
Infinity Display
Corning Gorilla Glass 5
Bixby Voice Assistant
Finger Print, Iris, Face Recognition Security Features
Samsung Pay (NFC & MST Payment)
Wireless Charging
USB Type C
3.5mm headphone Jack
Bluetooth 5.0
Micro SD Card Support
Dual SIM Options
LTE Cat. 16
Wi-Fi: 802.11a/b/g/n/ac
nothing COMPELLING about any phone...hear that apple lemmings???
and yea i think a just a bit wider than 8+ with a pen
I would imagine, I don't know, that the S-pen would be the major selling point of the Note 8? I wouldn't change from my SGS8+ just for the extra camera, no way, nor the extra 2GB. Nope, its the S-pen that has always made the note....'The note'. Though I have just pre-ordered the Note 8 I am a tad disappointed Samsung didn't at the very least add stereo to the Mobile. The differences between the S8+ and the Note 8 are, apart from the S-pen, minimal to say the least.
Having written that I must consider those changing up from other than the SGS8+ such as the Note 4 or 5 etc.

Spen, camera, and 6gb are what sold me.

Accompany all my other Notes
425 discount for note 7 owners.
Battery guaranteed not to explode!
Without the Wacom pen, the Galaxy Note is just an unremarkable big phone. Nobody else dares to compete with Samsung in that regard, and it pisses me off when they could easily do so. LG V10 or V20 with an active pen? Goodbye, Samsung!
But as it stands, I have another big reason for wanting one: my prized Note 4 isn't supposed to work outside of Sprint, but does so anyway thanks to some GalaxyTools/idoneapps unlock trickery. It just works suboptimally on T-Mobile now, lack of LTE bands and dismal call quality/not even 3G reception as of late.
The Note 8 won't have that issue due to having a unified North American variant... with an irritating locked bootloader, but I'm sure someone will find a way around that.
100 pages of notes with the screen off. will save a lot of battery.
Because it's a Note and not a Galaxy S device. ?

The pen ofcourse because it makes the phone unique from any s series that came before. It gives you about 30 more features in your phone. Writing notes on always on display and pinning it is quite intersting.

I agree and can't understand why so many of our respected peers voted for the camera? The whole idea of the 'Note' is the S-pen, The note series is really the S series plus a pen........The camera set up should have come with the SGS8 and 8+ but oddly didn't?
If I didn't place the S-pen at the top of my list I would keep my SGS8+ and not change until the SGS9+ comes out next year.

I have never once used the S-Pen on my Note 5. It's an utterly irrelevant as to why I purchased a Note

I believe that the camera really is the trump card for the Note...and really the only reason I am ordering it. Samsung seems to have taken a step backwards on the innovation regarding this device. Essentially it is a N7 with dual cameras... nothing more

No confrontation on my part. Just trying to understand your logic. So you go buy a leather brief case to store your documents in to travel but then place said documents in a cloth back pack?
The 'Note' is all about the S-pen that's why its called the Note series and not the S series that in reality does most of what the Note does but without the productivity of the Notes S-pen.
On this one occasion the Note differs in that it introduces dual cameras but in the future all the S series will have dual cameras starting with the S9.
If you don't need the leather brief case, the S-pen, then why not purchase the S series. :good:
You are far from unique in purchasing a Note and not using the S-pen. I had exactly the same debates on the Note 7 forum. If one doesn't need the pen, buy the less expensive S7.

I hear people complaining about how it's no different from a Note 7 or that Samsung didn't innovate. What are people expecting? for it to make you dinner? Aside from an on-screen fingerprint reader, I don't see much that could make it a game-changer.

I hear ya,however,it hasn't been the Swiss Army knife it once was.
Performance improvement,HellYeah,no doubt about it,every year it gets a bit better.
However,on my wish list & for some of us here, would be a huge welcome, whether it be for work or play:
A ruggedized version al la the Galaxy S Active.
Throw a couple front-firing speakers on it as well & I can for once & for all, forgive Samsung for taking our I-R Blaster & removable battery away......
S pen, just in general. Not because of the "advanced features". I always have my phone with me, and not always something to write with, this remedies that problem. Can use it for quick diagrams or directions and random notes. Since I broke my note 4 a year and a half ago I have missed that functionality. Had the Note 7 and you know the story there. Have had htc 10, lg v10 and currently still using the z force. With all these phones I have missed the funcrionality of the pen. It is not often needed, but when it is, nothing beats having it.
I will say I used the pen more than I thought I would on my note 7. I will agree for the price we pay for the note 8. Dual from speakers would be nice and not that cheap ass mono speaker that Samsung seems to love.
I don't know how the s8 preformance over the note 8 is but I do know my note 7 was smoother and faster than my S7 and S7 edge that I had. I like the note for its size and hope this one isn't long and narrow like the S7 edge was. I could do without the edge screen. Just allows a greater chance for the screen to crack like happened to my S6 edge +. Over all I hope I'll be happy with the note 8. Really I guess we buy it because it's the note and no other manufacturer makes anything like it.

Help making a decision

Hi guys and girls,
I need your help! I have a pixel c. And I'm getting a bit fed up with the lack of optimised apps for it. Games mainly. Essentially, my question is, shall I dump the pixel c and get a note 8? What's it like playing infinity engine games on it, and say the final fantasy series? My current phone is a very old Sony, Z5 compact. So it's too small to game on, hence I have the pixel c. Was thinking the note 8 could combine my 2 existing devices?
I know I'm going to loose some screen estate, but the note 8 is pretty much the biggest phone you can get...
Thank you
Ian ?
If your primary interest is gaming, you better get a s9+, the number 1 factor for considering a samsung note series device should always be the S PEN
screen size*
I love my Exynos Note 8 but I agree, in your case I would get the S9+. The S9+ Exynos version looks to be a great jump in performance over the Note 8. Hopefully the rumors about throttling it down aren't true.

Note 9 S Pen work on the Note 8

I was wondering if the New Note 9 S Pen will work and fit with the Note 8. I have a Note 8 and love it. From what I have read of the Note 9 specs, there is little need for me to upgrade.
Much larger battery
Slightly larger screen but same resolution
Better camera but its only better because of the updated software
More drive space
And an S Pen that (shoots freakin laser beams) has Bluetooth support
Those are great upgrades, but I do not feel like spending close to $1000 two years in a row. I kept the Note 7 S Pens when I returned the explosive phones multiple times in case I wanted backups. They work fine with the Note 8 even though their spec were supposed to be slightly upgraded. I would love it if I could get my hands on an Note 9 S Pen and be able to use it with my Note 8 without having to buy a whole new phone. I especially love the feature of taking a picture with the S Pen.
Does anybody have any thoughts or insight on this?
Looking at the Note 9 S-Pen I doubt all the functionalities will work with the N8, like the S-Pen charging or even working as a Bluetooth device as with the N9. It may not even fit.

it need be charged. i guess it cant be full working on note 8. when it was low/out of battery, it would become note 8 spen?
Find a way to charge the pen and I don't see why we can't use it with a note 8

Yeah another poster said the new pen is longer than the one on the Note 8 so it may not fit or might stick out.
It would probably work as a normal S-Pen. But without the bluetooth functions.
I have tested on both the Note 8 and Note 9. They won't work with each other. The Note 9's S Pen can't do anything on the Note 8' screen, even it's just a little touch or swipe.
Thanks for the feedback. That is a little disappointing but I guess I can wait. Samsung upgrades their phones just a little bit every year with just one great new feature to get me to consider the upgrade. Smart business plan. I wonder is a third party S Pen with Bluetooth will be developed to work with Note 8. That would be rad.

That's not right, I tried it at a Samsung store a couple days ago and it worked just fine as a plain EMR pen. I couldn't test fit since the pen was in a holder though.
Charging the pen capacitor likely won't work on a note 8, but it'll still work as a normal wacom pen.
The note 9 pen is bigger. It doesn't fit in the note 8
This is a really dumb question. You think samsung would allow note 8 users to use the note 9 pen... theres a whole reason why they're pushing the note 9. It's not even the same internals anymore.

Not a dumb question and apparently it does work (but won't charge or fit in note 8 of course).

Lol in terms of being able to use it as a stylus I'm sure it works fine. The whole point of that note 9 pen is for the functions... if you can't charge the pen or fit it back into the phone wouldn't you say its supposed to be meant for the Note 9. It's a dumb question ...

Of course the note 9 pen is meant for the note 9 lol, no one is questioning that . OP's question did lead to the clarifications on the level of interchangability between the note 8 and note 9 pens, which some found helpful. If you think it's dumb, well, thanks for telling us how you feel! Otherwise, I don't see any added value there... Moving on [emoji41]

Yes.. the pen fits well on both n8 and vice versa
Just not tested yet the blutooth function

There's actually a battery saving option on the Note phones that lets you turn off the S-Pen touch detection while the stylus is inside the phone. I noticed this as well at a store where the Note 8 pen didnt work on my Note 4 until I took out the pen from my Note 4. The option also exists on the Note 8. When you turn the option it off you can use your extra S-Pen's while the original is still inside the phone (I believe it's turned off by default actually, not sure though)

That is a really dumb answer. I could say for example newer MS surface pens are working on older devices; so why not asking if the newer note pen works on older devices. But that is not my point. The point is rather that your need to appear smart by degrading others.

Never tried to "appear" to look smart. Just stating something that's obvious. I don't see why the pen wouldn't work in terms of navigating through the phone with the actual touch of the stylus. The functionalities obvs wouldnt work. Anyways I'm moving on. Peace.

Point taken. For some this is a learned behavior. Still, it is emotional abuse. I would watch that kind of language. This is a great community. It would be even sad to lose someone to emotional abuse or harassment. Make no mistake. It will not be tolerated. Take the high road. Be the better person. Peace.
