Note 5 SM-920C Bricked from disabling SuperUser and rebooting - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
I own an Note 5 and i managed to soft brick it while trying to get android pay working for my rooted phone. In the process I was asked to turn off superuser in the SuperSu app and then reboot. After that my phone wouldn't boot.
List of things I tried:
I tried to flash the recovery.tar to my phone
Flashed Twrp and wiped my cache and davlik-cache
Also tried the fix permissions option.
*Update I bought an otg cable and flashed super su but nothing @Droidriven

Have you tried flashing your same ROM again if you were on a custom ROM and then superSU.zip then wipe cache and dalvik but don't factory reset(trying to save your data), then reboot.
If that doesn't work we'll take the next step.

A custom kernel is any kernel that isn't stock.
If you're using custom ROMs you're using custom kernel, find a kernel that works with your ROM.
Where did mention of a kernel come from?

No, custom ROMs can't use stock kernel so they need their own kernel, the kernel is what integrates your hardware with your software, roughly equivalent to drivers on PC. Without the kernel, the device can't use the ROM.

So if i have a kernel that i flashed to gain root access it is a custom kernel. Then i guess i don't have a custom ROM

Yes, that's how some newer Samsung are having to root.
If you're on Stock firmware then you may have to find a custom ROM and flash it or flash your stock firmware via Odin and start over with rooting the device again but you'll lose your data.
You might can do a nandroid backup before you flash anything and then after flashing you can retrieve your data from the nandroid backup by extracting it and putting it back where it belongs.

Answer 1) to prevent this in the future, when you get straightened out, boot to recovery and make a nandroid backup, that way you have a backup of everything with it working correctly that can easily be restored later if you have problems and will put you back to having everything the way it was when you made the backup. Its like a restore point in Windows.
Answer 2) A nandroid backup backs up everything on your device that is important, all of your settings, your contacts, your ROM, everything. You can pull whatever data from the backup that you need. But the backup I'm telling you to make right now nay not keep everything you had, there's no telling right now how much data you've lost or not so making the backup is to save whatever you can so you can retrieve it after repairing your device.
Always make a backup after every major change you make on your device so you'll always have a backup that includes the new additions so you can restore to that point if you need to. When you make a new backup you can delete the old one unless you just want to keep it but the more backups you make the more room they take.

Don't get ahead of yourself, for now just make the backup and then focus on getting the device restored to working again and THEN you can worry about retrieving the data.
One step at a time, stop trying to cross bridges you haven't gotten to yet.

No, not a backup to computer, boot to TWRP and choose the backup option, nandroid are created in recovery. Using PC isn't the right way to do what I said.

Never mind then, just keep it on PC
Now, look through your forum and find a custom ROM that works on your model number and a compatible gapps package(the ROM thread will tell you which gapps you need so don't ask) and then flash ROM then superSU then Gapps in TWRP then reboot and see if you're fixed.
If that doesn't do it then you'll need to go to Sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com and type in your model number to find your firmware, download it and then flash it in Odin in the AP slot, the same slot you flashed your kernel to root.

Using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0 what option do I choose to backup my current ROM? When I go into backup and restore I have multiple choices and I am not sure which is approperate and where it says Restore All (Be careful)....I decided I better make sure what exactly I am to back up and restore?
I believe the warning to be careful is because you do not want to restore system data if you are not on the same base rom. If you are just creating a backup so you can restore settings on the particular rom you are on, then back up all. If you are looking to backup apps, use titanium

In ROM Manager I just choose to backup current ROM, then it restarts into recovery mode and does all of the work for me.
I am in recovery, not ROM manager but I guess I can do it through there too. As long as I get it backed up, thats all that really matters I guess. I want to do a backup so if I go to a new ROM I want to try I can just restore my existing one if the new one doesnt work out.

[Q] How to go back to stock rom
Hey guys. I have a question. I have flashed mcr rom on my o2x recently but before flashing, i saved a backup in cwm. Now that i want to flash back to stock rom and kernel and the exact same original settings and rom, can i just restore using cwm or what do i do? I am from Singapore using Starhub. The main problem is that MCR will have converted your partition to ext4, which the stock ROM can't read. As far as I understand, there are two options 1. Use http://android.modaco.com/content/l...3-for-converting-your-device-er-back-to-ext3/ but make sure you have the backup on your SD card, so before you reboot, you can restore it (if you reboot without restoring, bad things happen). 2. Use nvflash to put the stock ROM back on, and then restore your CWM backup. But. . . someone who has done this may be able to confirm - if you want to be extra safe, check in the MCR thread.

I see. So by right what i have to do essentially is to: 1. Convert back to EXT3. 2. Make sure my NANDRIOD backup is in SD Card. 3. Off phone and go into CWM then recover NANDRIOD. Should be all? Don't quite understand the nvflash. May i know what is that?

hi everyone, i have recently got a HTC one, its rooted and also has custom recovery(TWRP) installed. its currently running stock android 4.2.2 firmware and today i have download the android 4.3 ota update. when i try to install the update it boots the TWRP recovery and i m unable to update. is there any way to update without losing my data, i know i have to flash the stock recover and again try to install the update but will this erase all my data(everything). i was using samsung galaxy s3, and its case there used to be chances to loose the data.. does same happens in HTC too. i don't wan't to lose my data, its about 23GB's..

Click to collapse just a quick word of caution, last time I flashed back a stock recovery (and accessed it, but didnt do anything in it), I was unpleasantly surprised that it wiped my entire internal storage be safe, and backup your stuff to your PC and no, you do not need to lock your bootloader.

Click to collapse I would I use Titanium Backup Pro for that (there's also a free version), both require root though. if you need a solution without root, check out Helium; i've never tried it but it should also work. for SMS and call logs, I use "SMS Backup & Restore" and "Call Logs Backup & Restore" by Ritesh Sahu, which work better than Titanium IMHO. Then I put everything on my PC, and I'm good to go

Make a nandroid of your current rom(data partition) with twrp (make sure you copy this to your pc), backup all apps with titanium backup, copy all data from internal storage 2. Flash guru reset. 3. Flash OTA. 4. Flash twrp, get root 5. Make a nandroid of the new rom (just in case), and then restore only the "Data" partition from the nandroid backup. If it works, amazing. If not, restore all apps from titanium backup. Click to collapse Why I'm suggesting that you download the guru reset is that it'll ensure that you're completely stock before the OTA. having a rooted rom with all of those tweaks that anyone will generally install can cause many complications, so just to keep the process straightforward, rather do it. Leave it to download overnight By "nandroid backup of system", do you mean a complete backup or only of the system partition? Because, you need to make a backup of your data partition, not system. Click to collapse im trying to copy the nandroid backup to pc but while i try to copy whole twrp folder it copies in seconds and when i checked the backup folder, i find only two files copied. if i try to manually copy those files than large files no not get copied, no error notification pops up but also the files do not get copied.. any ideas?? Do u guys know how to claim the 25GB free google drive space, i even tried to lock the boot loader but ins not working.. is there any way??
Restore Stock ROM from Nandroid
Ok.. so I've CWM with CoCore kernel installed on stock JB... I want to get the new CM 11 by TC but am afraid of risk... I've taken a nandroid backup of my phone through CWM... so after installing CM11 if I don't like it can I get into stock ROM BYU restoring my Nandroid backup??? if not then how can I restore my stock ROM without downloading it again????

Click to expand... Click to collapse If you want to revert back to stock from cm11.you have to flash the stock ROM through Odin then root it then flash cocore kernel and restore nandroid backup. If not want to go through PC then First flash custom ROM 4.3 make all wipes and format then flash cm 10.1 with all wipes and format (especially /preload partition) flash cocore again wipe all then restore nandroid backup. As I see in your signature you have a totally different phone model than Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070, can you be more specific with what you need?

I tried on my lapi. it doesnt detect device... so i tried on other versions of odin but fails again... so if i want to go back to stock, how to solve it...?

I told you to install Samsung USB drivers, not Kies. Sometimes Kies is making you a problem when you are in Download mode. Turn it off on PC, remove it in Task manager too.
Auto going to cwm after flashing every rom ( flashable zip)
Hi, I am using Sony xperia sp c5303, unlocked bootloader. Everytime i try to flash a rom through cwm,it is auto switching to recovery again in every boot. Only working when i am flashing ftf or flashing cm11 through cwm. But non of sony stock zip is working. Please help me out. Hope my problem makes sense i wipe and erase Everytime data cache system dalvik but no luck. Sent from my C5303 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Wish I could help but it seemed it might will not help you. So here come suggestions. My friend's XSP also faced this problem. But I fixed it easily by wiping the phone's system partition and re-flash the ROM.

Only if you choose to take your time. First do a nandroid backup of your device. Then flash stock ROM and wipe everything via flashtool. Afterwards root it, and install a recovery. Then from that recovery restore your nandroid backup. Things to note: - Make sure integrity of your nandroid backup - For safety backup your apps through Titanium Backup too - If SP does not boot after restoring nandroid, flash the ROM zip again. This may have to do with the kernel.
