Hello ✌
I have note 5, and there's an update available for it MM 6.0.1, can i use my VR after upgrading or should i hold this update? Thanks
I just updated to mm today and I can't get any vr apps to dl even though they were already there.
Joining in the question... I just bought a GEAR VR and didn't get it yet... It's still on it's way... Will my Note 5 not work with it if I update to the 6.0.1 that was released today?
Using gear vr commercial with s6 edge+ on marshmallow without any problem. Not sure about Note 5......
I've just updated to xsg uae version on my note 5 build n920cxxu2pbpa and oculus is working perfectly.
Also note that ive updated oculus app from store before updating.

Hi guys~
I'm hoping some of you can help me verify. My cousin is going to bring me the Gear VR from the US in March. I'm going to get the note 4 this month as well. I aware there is an update for note 4 recently. Does the update make the note 4 compatible with the Gear VR in Canada?
Thank you so much for your help !
Worst case scenario you will have to root, install a custom ROM like FireKat, DynamicKat or Hyperdrive and AEL 7.2 Kernel and you'll be ready to use the Gear VR.

Yes Gear VR will work with your Note 4. The update a few weeks ago fixed it. I'm on wind mobile and I love my gear vr.
Thank you! I'm with Roger, I can't wait to try the gear VR. I had oculus dk1 before, and I'm hoping the screen door effect is not that obvious.
Now that Note 5 is officially announced, I am trying to find some official/semi-official information on whether Note 4 Gear VR will be compatible with Note 5? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Osho
Of course not. Different sizes, they told they are about to release a. New compatible version for them
Honestly they are the same size...I don't see why it wouldn't work. My friend just got his note 5 today so I will give it a try in my Note 4 Gear VR

They never said that exactly. They told us to wait for Oculus Connect before buying a new phone, so that could mean no Gear VR for the Note 5 if they decide on announcing a VR phone.
What about Note Edge?
Will any VR work with note edge either Glaxay Vr or Innovator edition?
Any trick....!

No support for the Note Edge.
Got my note 5 and have been trying to connect it to the gear VR (Note 4 version). I got the oculus apps installed (ported from my Note 4 using Samsung smart switch), but the micro usb connector on the gear vr has a bump on it which stops anything other than the Note 4 from connecting. I looked inside the Note 4 micro usb port and I can see a notch to accommodate the bump. So Samsung succeeded in making a standardized connector into a proprietary one. *Hurray!*
Anyway, I then bought a micro usb extender cable and cut the notch into it myself. Still a no go. The extender doesn't fit on all the way (only about 4/5 the way). It seems like the female end on the Note 4 not only has a notch, but is also deeper *Hurray again!*
I tried connecting the Note 4 with the extender anyway, but couldn't get it to enter the oculus app. My last thought is to file down the bump on the gear vr connector. My only concern is that the bump is required to engage something on the Note 4. Definitely don't want to make a $200 mistake.
Has anyone tried shaving this bump down? Or has anyone heard of someone trying this?
Update: I filed down the bump and got the Note 5 to fit. Unfortunately, nothing happened. I'll try again after the official firmware update. However, I also tried the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge with no luck and those do have the firmware needed so it looks like there is a software lock preventing anything other than the Note 4 from working. The good news is that the Note 4 still fits and works :thumb: I'll be posting about this on the Techisode TV channel if anyone wants to see images and video of the process.
Update 2: video uploaded.
How about changing build prop. Wonder if it checks build prop for verification. Also wonder if there was any vr apps already pre-installed before you sidesynced anything. If so try using vr setup wizard. Then again the S6 didn't work so probably no go. Could be a kernel thing. That's what delayed the lollipop update back then for devices with gear vr software.

What a pity Galaxy Note 5 not work with Gear VR.
This isnt too bad of a Necro, but curious if anyone had any other trys with this
I don't think anyone else is going to bother now that the latest Gear VR iteration got confirmed yesterday at Oculus Connect, with Note 5 and S6e+ support along with the smaller S6 variants. At least the Note 5 can do Gear VR after all.
If anything, what might make me curious is the inverse: taking that recent Gear VR iteration, when it hits store shelves, and checking to see if the Note 4 acknowledges it at all. I'm guessing not, since it's not officially supported and the USB descriptor probably won't match up enough for the Gear VR Service to do its thing.
I hope the Note 4 works with the new gear VR. I don't like the direction Samsung is going with there product support and I don't like the Note 5. The gear VR for the Note 4 clearly has issues that have been resolved with subsequent versions. It's extremely disappointing Samsung most likely will ignore and forget the Note 4, especially even more disappointing since it's the device that started this VR evolution.

So we'll get it in 2017 most likely.
Id say more like 2020
Check sammobile last firmware for n910c was 01 of August and for n910f some day in July.
So guess when
Haha so ironic. Maybe we will got it nearly 2020.
I'd say 2220. And it'll be buggy and kill our batteries.

M? what about 5.1.1? Samsung, I hate you.
M will come in the beginning of 2016 in a version so bad that it will make your phone useless to celebrate the release of the S7.
Yes I'm a seer lol.
When?We wait Lollipop 5.1.1 and who know when we get,so M come but we dont be live or our note 4.
Android Lollipop was also confirmed to the note 2. xD
What I find very instructive is that GS5 isn't in the list. It will not even have 18 months of updates.
IMHO, if Samsung don't want us to buy their devices, they can just tell us. It's far more simple that showing us at every occasion that they don't care about their customers.
Android 6.0? I'm still waiting for damn 5.1.1.
I think Samasung talk some sh ite
Its gonna be a while before Huwaeis Nexus 6 or Note 6 (hopefully with microsd and IR, replacable battery comes out). So Note 4 with Android M would be sweet. Hopefully it will release by new year!

I'll believe it when I see it. Samsung can't even clean up their act when it comes to Lollipop.

Can't say that I'm surprised. But our phone would have benefited from a better, more system wide multi window.

I doubt it because in 2017, that's beyond's note 4's 2 year support. 2016 is the end. and also, if you look at the Note 3, it got its last update in dec. 2015 and it is still 5.0. That was "27" months of support for the Note3.
Using the note 3 as the base, if we were to get android 7, we would have to get it by dec. 2016.

Yea your right. But that is assuming Samsung release Android 7 "on time". Looking back at Android 6, it came out of Google on October 2016. The first note 4s got Marshmellow around June 2016, 8 months after Google released it. But this is still within note 4's 2 year period (note 4 came oUT on Oct. 2014).
Since android 7 was released in Aug 2016, this means that Samsung has around 4 months to release Android 7 to us before 2016 is over. Looking at the past examples, now do you see why I doubt we will get it? Of course this is all my speculation and I'll happily be wrong if do end up getting it.
Samsung mostly gives 2 major system updates to any flagship phone.
Since gingerbread i have been observing that every two version of android looks similar .
Excluding honeycomb cause it was only for tabs.
That also explains why every two versions of touchwiz look similar.
Gingerbread and ICS had many similarities, jelly bean and kitkat had similarities and also lollipop and marshmallow.
This is why the odd galaxy notes(1,3,5) have always been lucky .
There last update isn't similar to previous one , infact there is a major change in terms of UI and features.
For eg. Note 1's last update was jellybean , which was completely different than ICS .
Same for note 3 , whose last update was lollipop , a major upgrade over kitkat .
But unfortunately the even notes have been unlucky.
The note 2's last update was kitkat , which wasn't a big upgrade over jellybean , the UI was almost identical.
And as for the note 4 ,its last update is marshmallow , which samsung decided not to modify for note 4 and hence looks similar to lollipop.

Does anyone have an older version of the Oculus App so I can use my Note 7 with the gear VR?

Aptoide lets you get a earlier version of any app , but i don't thinks its the app version , I'm trying to find a solution as well .
It was actually Samsung's decision to disable the GEAR VR on the Note 7 that provided the last straw in deciding whether to keep the Note 7 or exchanging it. I chose to exchange my Note 7 to a S7 edge. I miss the Note 7 but at least My Gear VR is being used and not sitting on a shelf. There were too many hurdles to overcome to continue using the Note 7.
