What do you set active key to? - Galaxy S6 Active

Guys,
While we wait for root on this awesome device, I'm wondering what everyone uses their Active Key for? I think its neat to have a shortcut (or two) that doesn't involve using the UI.
I use mine for:
Shortpress - Google Calendar
Longpress - Inbox by Google
However I've turned off the key if the screen is locked since I would register a lot of miss-clicks while in my pocket. Also Camera is on double tapping the home button, which is nice.

Initially, I thought I'd use it to launch the camera, but I found the double-press home to be more than fast enough for that (and easier to hit to take a photo given how I hold the phone). Right now, I'm using it to launch Keep so I can quickly take notes, but I've actually been wondering what other people use it for as well.

short click : calendar app
long click: google translation app

I'll have a long click flashlight

Short press: Silent Phone
Long press: Signal

short press : hillary goes to prison: long press obama and congress goes with her,lol

I am a cord cutter with a 1.5 year old who has a pension to take and hide the tv remote.
Short Press: Launches my IR Remote App
Long Press: Netflix
I thought the Galaxy S7 was everything I could ever hope for in a device. Expandable memory, premium fee and waterproofing. Then I learned that they removed the IR blaster and I decided I would skip the S7 cycle. I use the IR blaster every single day.

That's pretty smart combination!

Shortpress: Snapchat
Longpress: YouTube

Short: calculator
Long: Music

Short: SPOTIFY
Long: Brivo Mobile Pass
||Brivo Mobile Pass||
So this app is AWESOME if your office uses the Brivo key FOB / cards for access around the building. This way, you can open the app immediately without having to navigate to it (like my fellow sucker iPhone coworkers ha!)
Cheers!

Can we set the short press to nothing?

Short: do nothing
Long: do nothing

I don't have the option to set to "do nothing", I only have a list of apps

short - do nothing

Long: Podcast Addict (listen to music and podcasts while playing Ingress

short: todo list app
long: Garmin Connect (sync with my fenix 3 watch)

[Q] Bizarre Galaxy S6 Active problem

Hey guys. Longtime lurker, first-time poster.
I've got a Galaxy S6 Active that works well for the most part (I'm half convinced it's the perfect phone for playing Ingress), but I'm running into a strange problem with the Active Key. When I set a long-press of the Active Key to launch Ingress, Ingress crashes almost every single time on launch ("unfortunately, Ingress has stopped"). Yet when I open Ingress the traditional way –from a folder or the app tray–*it runs just fine.
I've tried duplicating this problem with other apps but only Ingress seems affected. Neither rebooting nor updating Ingress has fixed the problem ... I even tried a factory reset of the phone, to no avail.
It's easy to say "well, this is just a bug in Ingress so I'll just deal with it" ... but instead this problem has me curious about the workings of the Active Key. What's different about the way an app launches via the Active Key versus how it launches from the app tray? There must be something.
Hi, I got the S6 Active last week and also play Ingress. Tried what you mentioned and replicated the same problem: Ingress will crash if set as long-press of the Active Key. However, it seems to work as the short-press shortcut key, so I made it that way and changed the default Activity Zone as the long-press app.

Good to know I'm not alone. Can't believe I didn't think of trying to set it to launch on single-press. Thanks!
that is weird huh,
but another option would be to use the app called, Tasker factory, which can turn a shortcut of app (i.e ingress) to a standalone app, then you would set your long-press active key to launch the custom tasker app, which then just launches ingress, with a short delay or not, or any extra stuff like ensure wifi is on and such...
maybe ask someone here in xda, to make the apk for you, as tasker isn't required if someone makes the apk for you to install. *be careful and virus scan any unknown apk sources of course, etc etc.

What Would You Like Tasker To Do?

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to get an idea of how everyone uses tasker or how they want tasker to work for them. Let me know in a comment everything that you have tasker setup to do right now. Also, what tasks do you want but are unsure of how to create a profile for them?
How would I...get my phone to tell me the weather whenever I open my closet? I let the weather determine what I wear and usually I check the weather on my phone right before getting dressed. Would be nice to automate that!
I'm using Tasker for:
-auto-rotate the screen when I launch some apps
-switch off when I'm connected to specific Wi-Fis
-auto-sync my Google account every 2 hours (without night tome)
-auto-sync Google and weather information 30 minutes before my alarm in the morning
I made a tutorial how to do the last one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3277729

After looking into it quite a bit, I cannot find any way that a task could be triggered by opening your closet door. I don't know how to go about making this work that would be more efficient than just using Google Now.

I figured it out, Greenway. All I need is a SmartThings open/close sensor to monitor when I open my closet door. It uses magnets to do this. Then, I can have Tasker "listen" for the notification that my closet door has opened, and then it will tell me the weather. Heck yah!

This also can be done using a Z-wave door sensor + a Vera hub and the AutoVera plug-in for Tasker. AutoVera can monitor all your Z-wave devices in real time to trigger a Tasker task.
In this example, The tasker profile would be:
if the closet door status change from "closed" to "open" (AutoVera) between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m.,
And it would launch the task to say aloud the weather on your phone. Already explained how to get and use weather data in this post
I guess your SmartThings setup is working pretty much the same way
NFC tags

Off the top of my head, I would suggest NFC tags, they are cheep, and you could stick one on your closet door. I believe tasker has an auto NFC function now that will let you create a task based on a NFC scan.
I could be mistaken though.
I do know that you can get the "auto barcode" pluggin which will allow you to automate a task from a barcode scan - just stick a barcode on the door and scan it in the morning!
I'm actually working on creating a personal assistant app that could give you these kind of contextual updates - it pretty easy now with api.ai pluggins.

I didn't see your reply before I posted - yes that would be the ideal solution.
My basic tasks are
- silent when between midnight and 8am, if charger plugged in;
- silent during meetings
- launch Radardroid if connected to car BT
- send an automated Whatsapp saying "I'm driving, can't read messages, call me", if I am connected to my car BT and receive a message (using Whatstasker plugin). Yes I have teenage girls...
I have also automated a series of tasks for when I go out mountain-biking on my own:
scan NFC tag (using Trigger)
start Strava
send a Glympse by SMS to my wife, so she can find me if I do myself some serious damage in the middle of nowhere (using Autoinput to simulate keypresses since there are no intents to actually send the Glympse)
And the reverse when I get back:
scan a different NFC tag using Trigger
stop Strava
stop Glympse (using Autoinput again, as above)
send a Whatsapp to the missus, saying I'm home (using Whatstasker).

Do you take the data from calendar? If yes which one?
Thank you

Yes, from the Profile page, hit the plus sign, then state, and in the filter area start to write calendar. click on calendar entry, and the 5th entry is "calendar".
Hit the search icon, and you can then choose the calendar from the calendars you currently have.
I use it for:
* Rotate screen for certain apps
*Play music when connected to certain Blutooth devices
* Change volume when connected to certain wifi connections.
I'd like to learn how to use it with AutoAlarm to configure my Lifx light.
I've been trying to find a way to automate the voice recording app via nfc... has anyone seen this done?

how did u create this task . . . ."send an automated Whatsapp saying "I'm driving, can't read messages, call me", if I am connected to my car BT and receive a message (using Whatstasker plugin)"???
I would like , How I can use tasker with-in my Android phone using either my K9 mail client of the gmail apps .
First to check mail every certain mins , once a key word is search ( i.e. from my boss's email ) , takser use my Android phone's build-in SMS client to send myself an SMS.
Thank you very much.
Is it possible, that tasker would lower the priority of ongoing notifications on a condition (e.g. location), so that notification will run, but hides from lockscreen and showing only, if phone is unlocked (and rise after location change)?
i want to use tasker for spying...all activities sms, calls, open applications, locations, call recordings etc forwarded to me on my number/cloud etc with no traces there in their mobile. is it possible with no traces?
Auto reset Mobile Data Cycle on fresh purchase of data.
I know that Android automatically updates the data cycle every thirty one days.
However my carrier only allows a 28 day monthly data plan. Moreover if I do run out of data before that, the system does not account for it. This causes problems for my data cap management unless I manually reset it myself.
Now I think I have one half of it down. After each data plan purchase the carrier sends an sms conformation. I've set up a profile that is triggered when it reads the first half of the confirmation message from the carrier. I cannot however, find the necessary action to reset the data cycle.
Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you for putting up this thread.
taking pictures by fingerprint? this would be awesome
Diceware
I want to run a Diceware password generator from within Tasker. This could read from a Google Sheet, or from an internal file, or could have all the words stored in Tasker. I'm not exactly sure how to build it in Tasker. I can make a Google Sheet that will use a pseudo-random number generator to choose the values that will be used to select the words from the Diceware list.
Any ideas?
My dream would be picking up the phone from say desk unlocks the screen.
As far as I know it's a no go. Shame...

[Q] Fingerprint action on per app basis

Hi folks,
since tasker supports the fingerprint hardware I wanted to ask if it is possible to create actions on per app basis.
Example 1:
Chrome is open. Click or swipe on the fingerprint sensor causes chrome to open a new tab or close the active tab.
Example 2:
Gmail is open. Click on fingerprint to create a new mail.
Example 3:
Music player app is running. Swipe (click is to unlock the phone) on fingerprint sensor to pause and resume without turning on the screen.
Thx in advance
www (dot) xda-developers (dot) com/create-a-context-aware-fingerprint-reader-in-tasker/ (sorry I don't have enough posts to post links)
This article has a pretty good writeup of how to run tasker tasks in an app context. The only part left to you is the part that comes after, like opening a new email, or new tab. Those should be doable with something like AutoInput. It looks like the app mentioned in the article works with swipe as long as your device does, but I'm not sure if it works when your screen is off.
Thx. No idea how I could miss this article here on xda...

Smart watch button reassignment

Lenovo just released the Smart Watch X (can't post links). Is it possible to assign functions on the phone to the pressing of the button of a / this smart watch, for example via tasker or so? I.e. I press the button, the phone opens an app / website etc.
The fact that pushing a button on the watch sends an intent to an app on the phone, suggests that the intent should be able to be intercepted. How much work it is..?
There is a thread discussing this on a different watch in the smartwatch forums; Martian Notifier | Tasker Integration.
"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment." - Will Rogers
Yeah its easily possible, I am using this watch, I can easily open website easily just pressing the button, I do Pm you how I can do this, I bought my watch from Shopworn discount code, and they give me manual instructions as well that how to open sites or apps just pressing a button.
