Hello, after a upgrade of my ROM with a CM7, my IMEI has change and is now
So is it possible to reset my original number ? because I because I can not connect in 3g.
Thanks for your help.
Mod Edit : dont post ur IMIE and ask this question in the Q&A its a sticky
this thread moved to General
OMG
Can you flash rom back to original one
this is strange, actually, IMEI number depends on the Chipset of the phone, isn't it ??
And you should not post your imei puplicly!!!
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
In the Galaxy S the imei was in a file in the /efs folder... I don't know in O2x...

I know, but it's not my number, so I don't care
I'm looking for a solution like Samsung Galaxy S
there was a similar thing with the ZTE Blade (Orange Sanfransisco) when CM7 came out for that. So NO it's not entirely in the hardware.
Not help but more of a possible confirmation that this is a problem:
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,6031
was put up 5 hours ago
That's only for Samsung phones, LG ones don't have an /efs partition.
We do have an /lgdrm partition though, which apparently on some phones does contain IMEI info, although the files (system.id & device.id) mentioned doesn't exist there on the O2X. I don't know if that controls the IMEI or just displays it or what.
Besides, that's a ClockworkMod recovery commit, not a CM7 one per se.
What is the solution that I 've the same problem happened to me Friends?
There is no solution.

There is solution if you have your original imei with you or box with you. There is one unapproved
Commit in cm git, cherry pick it and set your imei as you want. And then when you have it back, go to recovery and wipe all install official nightly or modaco or any other
mate imei will report exactly what the address could you tell us a little more detail?
That is surprising. Very surprising in fact, given that in many countries it is illegal to tamper with an IMEI number.
OK, so in this case it's restoring an IMEI, but it has the potential to be used nefariously.
Just a a brief look in the code review, but can't find it, any chance of a link?
Well thank you I have nothing more to do

Unfortunately steve removed that from review i guess, but it was there, have seen it, it was some new stuff which can let us change all IMEI, mac address wifi, bluetooth and also hide sim card verification stuff. and steve was strictly against it, as google would get angry if this would be included in cyanogen, so he must have removed it from review, so cant be cherry picked in kangs too. Now i wish i would have taken it before it went down
Oh that, yeah I do remember now you mention it... didn't realise it could change IMEI though, not properly at least. Caused a huge ****storm!
yeah, it had some heading like privacy or spoof word in commit change, but cant find it. If it was there, i would have helped made a little kang for him to get back normal
problem !
I have the same problem imei imei changed the phone number was out of service after nvflash
eh... Dont know why my post "disappeared" but there is a way to recover your original IMEI for P990 device.
Send me a PM and i will send instructions to recover IMEI.
There is another option

My galaxy note kernel version is DXLC2 (malaysia)
Did I need to downgrade my kernel version frist???
I suggest you don't root your phone otherwise it will be too troublesome for you, i.e. do a lot of reading, keep up with development (which also need a lot of reading), fine tuning your custom ROM (which also need a lot of reading), the list will never ends (which unfortunately needs much reading as well!).

Hey danwteik,
Indeed you need to do some further researching before proceed for rooting as I believe you don't want to screw your phone up.
But as long as you're prepared, you're OK. Am too a newbie to Android and after lots of research, I've successfully root & flash my phone to custom rom as well.
Just follow this guide from Ashwin, great step by step guide and you won't need to worry much as you can proceed as per the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJjh6gi0Spw
Just like the firmware from the video, go download it from Dr Ketan's thread:

questions regarding root
hi all xda guys,
I am new to droid and love it thus far...
after having my galaxy note for a few weeks and doing some reading, ive decided i want to root my phone to have the best working phone possible HOWEVER im completely clueless when it comes to being this technologically adept. so i hae a few questions as follow:
1. ive read the root thread and see that there are a few different options for rooting, in everyones opinion which is the best / easiest to perform the most basic root to unlock my phone, root it and be able to install custom items.
2. CWM i assume means clock work mod...what is this mod exactly? and why is it important to install along with the root?
3. my phone settings read that my kernel version is 2.6.35.11..one rooting option i believe requires you finding out which kernel your running and they list kernels as kk## etc. how do i figure out exacty which kernel I am if it only reads the previously listed kernel version?
4. what exactly does it mean when someone told me theyre going to instal custom kernels? ( i have a friend who just bought and rooted a new Samsung GS2 and im curious as to what this means)
5. i've read the rooting directions and watched videos posted and googled my brains out...does anyone know where i can go to find the most basic and simplest explanation and directions for rooting my GN? (if youre reading and got this far and saying the explaination in the root thread IS THE EASIEST it can be....i need something dumbed down to the level a 2 year old can understand....this stuff is mind-boggling confusing for me for some reason i cant wrap my head around the process or the concept)
6. i basically want to root my phone for these reasons
- to figure out and manage to make my phone use less running ram to run faster
- to be able to install or customize the phone to make my battery last longer
- to be able to do whatever it takes to tether my phone without having to pay for it in my data plan
-to be able to install or whatever it is that allows me to customize my phone (themes, fonts, icons, etc)
- to use my phone worldwide on different carriers without having to pay for unlocking, buying other sim cards etc.
- to install or whatever to have my phone do amazingly cool stuff. (this isnt as important as 1-5 but hey who doesnt want a phone that can do everything and then some?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! i've googled it and asked friends and even have contacted someone on craigslist who offers a service for a nominal fee. but im smart and smart enough technologically speaking that i can figure it out.
i just need someone to sit down with me and explain everything step by step and answer my questions. PLEASE i'm willing to do anything and everything possible to learn and re-pay someone for their awesome-ness and sharing their intelligence.
someone something, please help a fellow user out.
*i'd even go so far as to pay-pal someone a few bucks or bake you a cake and ship it to you. im that serious.
please guys,
XDA rocks, droid rocks, YOU rock, just help me out...i've spent 5 days trolling xdas forums and other sites and forums and have just gotten more confused. someone dumb this down for me!

Hi,
I just got my Galaxy Note last week and would like to root it. I found the link below and would like to check with you guys first if they really work. I could not post on that thread for I'm a new member. I think some of you have posted in that thread too. Please help.

Hello Friends.
I am very keen on getting started with the Rooting process for my Galaxy Note. I have been reading and trying to comprehend the various methods of achieving root but it seems overwhelming and daunting.
I reiterate what I have stated in another thread, I am an infant in this domain. I feel much too confused presently and thus I humbly request you to please guide me one step at a time.
At the very beginning, I aspire to achieve two motives. They are -
1] Root my device
2] Back up the stock ROM
My device details are :
Model number
GT-N7000
Android version
2.3.6
Baseband version
N7000XXKK5
Kernel version
2.6.35.7-N7000XXKKA-CL726566
[email protected] #2
Build number

I thank you in advance for continuing to have patience with me.

I'm afraid you won't be able to flash that rom to your device for some reasons..
1. That rom does not exist
2. Yo gotta read hell a lot before even thinking of flashing a device unless you want to instabrick your device

you don't need to undermine people's capabilities if then can flash or if they will brick their Note.
The fact that the thread is there posted with instructions on it means they know the risk and the consequences behind it. If you say they get their Note brick... then so be it. XDA is a brain pool of helpful people willing to help in anyway they can an to those individuals who presents their problems here.
That's the beauty of having a wonderful community like XDA... People helps if your willing to be helped. And besides, any custom and seasoned flashers out there would know... you can make any much sweeter in flashing and seeing a wonderful custom ROM running on your phone without taking the RISK itself. I'm sure most season devs/flashers have brick their Note at some point in their lifetime.
That's the risk in life. You can't succeed in savoring your achievements... if at some point you don't learn your mistakes and the risks behind it.
Good thing we have quite a helpful bunch of guys here willing to shell out their time in giving expertise to Noobs and members alike.

The problem, as I understand it is that people think flashing is like installing windows and adding software to it, if something goes wrong I will reinstall OS and all will be fine. Do think more then 20% knows that they can make their phone illegal without known it? Flashing and you get a corrupted efs GG then you will never know it if the flash goes well and you will not need to look up your imei! A fast example for how people can get them in trouble.
Many guides if not all are so explained that they think you know basics or leading to other posts saying do that method without informing right, thinking the other post explains everything fine because some steps are so said as everyone knows. If you have a friend who doesn't know **** about flashing let him read CM10 flashing guide and then let him flash your note, or at least to tell you what he could do step by step. Don't get me wrong it isn't only this guide but everyone because they are write for people who know some methods, so methods that are known are not listed or just get a mentioning as a simple word even a misleading one. Example they say restart the phone to recovery and not boot the phone to cwm recovery mode and then flash or wipe or whatever.
You see that there are some things that are misleading. I lost on my old ace the imei from just flashing stock roms from dbt to the Netherlands one and changing csc with *#272*imei# or something like this code cab to search now.
Sorry I could continue posting over and over other issues but atm at work and multitasking with the note to search find repost anything goes on my nerves.
Hope I got gave you a idea why I was/ I am against helping people that not even trying to read something about the thematic they are looking.

I understand what your driving at. BUT, you have to give leeway and freedom to individuals to choose and experience for themselves failures in order for them NOT to commit it again.
Sure there are a lot of misleading informations circulating around, but with proper guidance from some forerunners here, I'm sure those people having problems with can be helped not to commit the same mistakes again in the future right? You yourself have made some flaws before, but where does it lead you now? you become more wary and careful already not to make the same mistakes you've done before, right?
That is why there is a Q&A thread here... for people to ask and for people to give advice to those who are in dire need of helping.
Though I agree some people are just so stubborn to read but hey, at least we who knows better can give an angelic help to those who are trigger-flashers so that they may in turn learn from their mistakes in the future and at the same time, give their assistance to those other noobs... so pretty much it's a vicious cycle over and over again... but hey, I'm glad I am able to part my assistance to those who needs it. At the end of the day, I can sleep with a smile knowing that I have help some poor fellow irregardless where and who he might be in this world.

Your first post and you're editing build props on a phone (assuming AT&T since you posted here) with a locked bootloader?
Ok. I'd suggest posting in the thread that gave you your build.prop edits, as that seems the best way to get the answer.
However, the answer always is flash the factory file back. Google it or look around. I suggest doing that more before doing stuff to your phone any further.

Hey all,
Came from the HTC family, loving my new Note 5 however I want to know what's the best way rooting my Note 5 without tripping (knox?) from what I read. Also, do I need a custom rom install after rooting it? My main priority is to root the phone so I could install (adblocker and retrieve files that non-root files able to recover)
Model number SM-N920l and on Telstra (Aus)
Any instructions/tips would be great.
My best advice? Read around a bit before you do anything and all your questions will be answered. I'm not being rude but the main question you asked is one of the most regularly answered.
The answer is you cannot root without tripping Knox. And once it has been tripped, it can't be undone.
So, as I said, read around a bit and you'll find all the answers you need and won't something you'll later regret

Thank you for your unhelpful advice. I already read around, I created a thread solely so I could get some clarifications before I proceed or if anyone could guide me which is the best thread to start with.
Great way to start. The problem is that if you had read you would have seen at least 3 threads in Q and A which tell you rooting always trips Knox.
Most of us here are eager to help but would rather help those who help themselves first, otherwise the forum becomes clogged with the same questions.
So simple answers: you can't root without tripping Knox.
If you want to root, there are clear threads in General and Android Development which show you what to do, with instructions. Look for anything by dr.ketan and you won't go far wrong.
Oh, and if you do decide to root and then go back to stock unrooted, your phone will not deep sleep unless you install one of the fixes. Again, there are threads in General.
