Anyone have the S7 Edge and Gear VR yet? - Samsung Gear VR

I would love to hear an in depth review of the S7 Edge with the consumer Gear VR. I currently have Note 4 and had the innovator edition last year but sold it on after a few months. I've the S7 Edge on pre-order and was excited about getting the consumer version bundled with it. I was in a Samsung store today and tried the consumer version they had on display with an S6 attached and I was left a little underwhelmed. It's going back almost a year since I had the Note 4 innovator and despite my delight at being able to wear my glasses with the new version the FOV certainly seemed reduced and I could detect the edge on the periphery. But it was nothing major though, especially as I'm essentially getting it free of charge.
What I would really like to know though is there much of a trade off with the S7 Edge. I was so torn between getting the standard S7 or the Edge and decided to go with the Edge for the larger screen/battery but if it is significantly inferior to the standard S7 I can change my order. I was reading that John Cormack mentioned on Twitter that the standard S7 would be sharper with less FOV but that the Edge would also possibly bleed light and make it uncomfortable. He later apparently retracted the statement and stated he was thinking of the S6 and not the S7 however other forums don't take him at his word and believe the retraction may have been to do with bolstering the S7 sales. Personally I would rather just hear an honest review from someone that has it in their hands, I've been scouring Youtube and Google but all I ever find are mind numbing unboxing videos and no testing commentary.
If anyone on here has it I would be so grateful for an opinion.

I got my s7 edge, I filled the claim form and get my free vr set in 4-6 weeks.

I have the S7 Edge and the GearVR. I don't notice any light bleed and find it to be a great combo. The image/FOV are larger of course with the larger screen which is great for some stuff but when scale really matters (VR Porn) things getting close to the camera can start to look overly large lol.
I wouldn't base your choice of phone around VR use. I personally chose the S7 edge for the 5.5" screen in one-hand able form factor but more importantly for the larger battery as that is the critical point for all phones without removable battery - MOWAH POWAH!!

Yeah I'm coming from the Note 4 so bigger screen and battery are near the top of my list. Thanks for the reply.
VRPorn? , I must live a sheltered life ?.

Lol link for future use?

Thanks griffindodd, I've also ordered an s7 edge and was curious and after the dude at oculus's comments on twitter I was thinking about switching to the s7 standard, my worries have been somewhat addressed

Claim form?? I am expecting it to arrive with it, tomorrow. I hope I don't have to fill in some form. That would be a serious let down.

Can we use our current gear with the new s7 edge? I have the one for the s6 edge plus (from best buy). I'll be taking advantage of the free vr offer, but I'd like to avoid needing two different versions. Too many. I don't understand why they don't just make them adjustable and call it day.

Yeah, I have it. Been playing with it. My S7 edge over heats too quickly. Currently looking into cooling methods.
There is no light bleed at all. I'm currently testing out movies. I wanted to test games, but i dont have a controller thats compatible.
So far i love it. But i hate best buy. HATE best buy.
If you want me to test anything out for you. PM me.

From what i hear the old one is better. I'd stick with it. My face keeps touches the lens, putting smudges on it. I thought u could use the S6 on the new one. But i dont know.

I got mine last Monday thanks to best buy, so far everything has been great! I haven't experienced any major heat issues. The the free vr bundle they give you is a joke tho.

Fixed my overheat problem. Installed a centrifugal fan. Runs off batteries or any usb charger...

Some things I noticed
1. If you don't want to wait for your VR Headset go to a local Best Buy. Get the deal they have running and walk out the door with a headset. If you go to Verizon (or other carrier) you have to send in your receipt and it will take 3-6 weeks to process.
2. I am running the S7 Edge so this may be just me...Movies work great in VR but I am unable to use the SD Card with Oculus at this time to access movie content. All movies must be copied into the local drive. Since I have a 32 Gig phone this is an issue. Apparently S7 will support SD Card Oculus movie access, but just not right now.
3. Get a Bluetooth controller. The headset functions are on the side of the unit and if you want to play games this can become tedious quickly.
4. Overheating - So I haven't officially overheated but the unit does run hot. I recommend a fan for the DIY fix, and keep the included cover off the unit to help let heat escape. It isn't needed and doesn't impact immersion. Because the S7 does not have a removable back a heat sump is out of the question unless you want to butcher your phone.
5. Battery Life on Oculus is fun. It will suck down 25-30% during a 2 hour period easily. Because you will have a tendency to move your head around I suggest a long micro USB cord (longer than average) so you can leave it plugged in while you play.
These are not negatives at all, I actually LOVE the experience. I have already decided I can put on the headset , watch movies all day forget to eat and pretty much die like that Asian kid did from playing WOW too much.

With the inability o add the heat sump to the S7 back I was thinking of doing this very same thing.
I noticed you are using a BFG Fan, could it survive with a smaller unit?
Also, are you plugging the fan into the microUSB on the VR unit and using the phone battery to run this or using an external power source? Because I like to keep the VR unit plugged in to keep battery life up I was thinking of getting a USB port extender and plugging the fan unit and the VR unit into the port extender and have that plugged into a power source.
Excellent DIY!!

I have also bought both S7 Edge and Gear VR.
Love the experience, mainly Gunjack which is really superb. Seen also several 3d films in the Oculus Theatre. It's nice.
For the SD Card problem, you can use adoptive storage. It seems to work on both S7 and S7 Edge.
A problem however (at least with my Gear VR) is the tunnel effect and the Field of View (FOV).
I find it quite limited. When the Gear VR is pressed against my face I can clearly see the limits (mostly the right one) of the Gear. It's like a reflecting wall and it is annoying.
Anyone else has this problem?
Best,

I have the edge and VR gear. Seems awesome so far! I have played it almost 4 hours straight without any over heating. Just freeze the bloat wear, close all apps before entering, and leave the outer shield of the VR out so the phone is open to the air. It hasn't been anything more than warm for me.
I wish they would have given an actual 50 gift card for the games so we could choose instead of just a bundle. I only like two of the games; the star ship game (forget the name) is incredible with a controller and a swivel chair!
My Moga power controller works great in mode B but doesn't work in mode A yet. A controller is a must for some of the games.
I do have to keep a micro fiber clothe because the lenses do get smudged.

Since today I didn`t had time to try VR after rooting... and now I can`t get it to install... I get a ”network error” message when trying to install it!! I even tried SOLUTION BY kikanx: "You have to enable the two applications which maybe disabled for some reason.
com.facebook.appmanager (App Manager)
com.facebook.system (Installer)"
Any advice?

any solution for insane big scale on videos at s7 edge?

I love the VR with my edge. The lenses do get smudged as mentioned above and I n3ed a micro fiber. I think they should of packaged it with one but oh well. The experience is amazing especially being so early on. I have to ge a controller as well. Only downside is see is the Scamsung always using proprietary accessories which in this case only pisses me off because of Google Cardboard. Why do I have to use a different headset in order to use cardboard. Why would Scamsung not make their stuff compatible with both so then we get the best of both virtual worlds. I'm done ranting in the end it's still awesome for games and media consumption.

You can use the gear vr for cardboard apps, and most workarounds are very easy to do.

Picked up my Samsung Gear 2 Neo today

Works great with my Note 3 using BajaRom. I work for Samsung. Best Buy has had a delay in their deliveries but they are fairly easy to get in many ATT stores. I really like it. Really good deal at $199. Of the 3 watches i feel that this gives the most features at the best price point. I'm not posting screenshots as they are everywhere by now. A few quick things to note. I haven't tried the sleep tracker or pedometer yet but the heart rate monitor has been spot on for me. I loaded about 50 songs on it. Bluetooth music streaming sounds awesome on this. Not sure why but i expected less but was super happy with the sound quality and volume. Speaker during calls is louder than i anticipated. Not tested battery life much yet. Very light and comfortable. There are quite a few settings that can be changed via gear manager. I'm sure some work better than others but essentially notifications can be set for all installed applications on your phone. Watch On remote is limited obviously but works great on my Mitsubishi TV with Dish Network. I also noticed that you can allow unknown apps so side loading apps will not be an issue. I will update how the sleep tracking and pedometer goes after tonight and tomorrow. Overall in a non biased way i really am impressed with the job they did and the future of smart watches in general.
Please keep us updated on the pedometer aspect. I'm looking for a replacement for my fitbit force. And I like seeing what I walk everyday.

The idea for it is that you leave your phone in the locker, and use BT headphones so you not carrying your phone around the gym/work out.
Shame its still not 100% waterproof and still unable to swap out bands. If only those two last items were met, I would of bought one.
Instead I will stick with my pebble.
I purchased the neo and then returned it for the gear 2. There is a rubber coating on the outside of the neo and even with the slightest scratch it will scrape off and the scratches are way more obvious. The button on my neo was the first thing to show a scratch within the first couple of days so I spent a little more and I don't regret it at all. The neo is perfect for a females hand also due to its weight, so if you like a heavier watch but not as heavy as the original then stick with the Gear 2. Love it except for all the initial bugs with the software.

The mp3 player on the watch is sick. I never listen to mp3s anymore but the option of not having to have your phone at times is excellent. Just to clarify YES you can swap out different bands. also its not waterproof but its water resistant. No bathing or swimming with it but who does that?

I dropped my Neo into a bowl of water over 10mins it still works and also I've showered with it on. But I didn't try to scrub it or put soap on it. One down fall is that the water on the screen will make the device to have a mind of its own kept acting like I was pressing random buttons.
Also does anyone know how to install non Samsung apps into the device and how to get Flesky sms to my Neo? I've seen for the original gear but not the gear 2.

It has about 2.3gb of storage available. I have added 128 songs so far. Another guy at work has 361 so far so you can load way more than 50 with lots of room to spare lol. I used the sleep tracker last night and it works great. i will try the pedometer out tomorrow weather permitting. we have a track by my house exactly a mile long so we will see how accurate it is.

at this point because it runs Tizen there isn't much available yet but you will be able to side load stuff when it comes out as there is an option to allow unknown sources.

Yeah. These smart watches seem like a cool idea, but at $200 for 4GB or less of memory and only about 100 apps available, they seem like only a must-have for the extreme geek.

Seems like more than enough to serve the purpose. Its a watch with some nice features. You can transfer songs on the fly with your phone. Im not sure why anyone would need more as its used to stream some songs during a workout and its kinda small to have a 1tb hard drive built in. I cant imagine needing much storage for apps as they will be smaller and basic apps to accomadate a watch

Hello, .
Got my Neo yesterday, I can trully say that it is much better than I expect, looks and feel really good. The main purpose to buy it was the heart rate sensor, I am fade up with my polar RS800CX, it consumes too much baterries and the chest trap is a pain in the ... to wear.
So, this morning I went for a 150 minutes walk with my wife, she was wearing a fitbit one. In the end both devices had the same distance (+- 300 meters) and a diference of 400 steps, We were walking side by side with a sincronized step, The good thing was that I had my heart rate checked all the way, the bad is that some of the readings were sometimes wrong, some picks at 155bpm (too high) and an average of 122 bpm, which is a bit too much. But i´ll try some more on that to be certain.
the other bad thing for me is that I am not abble to sync with s-health, only Fitness with gear app, available on Samsung store, but everything is new I hope that in the near future things will improve.
Regards.
PS: forgot to mention that my phone is a Note 3
Got my Neo as well. love it so far but disappointed about the lack of apps!!! need more watch faces at the very least!!!!
Got it synced with my Note 2, no problems.
Long shot but it would be great if the Slacker folks did a Gear 2 app and let you download music to it.
I would be more then happy to get android wear on it and to play with more options

The pedometer on mine appears excellent, after wearing it at the same time as my fitbit force today. At the end of today it tells me 13355 steps, compared to 13669 on my fitbit and 12823 on my Note 3. Overall very happy with this.

I, too, got my Neo yesterday -and did pretty much what you did! The pace count seems ok. . .Actually I kind of thought my phone (S4 running GoldenEye or Shostock roms 4.4.2) might be more accurate! The heartrate monitor works great -except if you are in motion. While at rest on the Gym machines this morning I compared readouts from the workout machine monitors and the phone -pretty much exactly the same. However, while trying to measure while doing the elliptical or biking machine --the machine was able to deliver a pulse, but the neo either failed or gave a very low reading (my pulse was not 59 while biking the hill climb routine!)
I spent about an hour on the S Health sync thing yesterday -very annoying. The "old" S Health (2.5 I think) did not sync, the Fitness gear app DID sync. I got the Galaxy S5 S Health (ver 3.0) and loaded it on the phone and it DID/Yes sync. However, I can't find a way to get my old S Health data on the new S Health app. The ver 2.5 would present a back up restore menu when in the account window. The new 3.0 versions don't seem to have a restore option anywhere --at least I could not find it. I kind of hate to lose my old data --it's not that important, but it helps for reference and comparison.
EDIT: SLEEP.APK OK I had to manually update the Neo's rom via Kies3 (after DL/Installing Kies3, plugged in the Neo and Kies discovered a software update. I went from Neo Rom NCD to ND8.) After the update, I had the Sleep app in apps!

hello,
I am having the same problem with shealth, version 2.5 is not compatible, version 3.1 works great until i reset my phone, then I loose all data, it happened 3 times. So far the only one working is Fitness with Gear, but it is very poor, no weight management, no food, no maps of the exercice, it is really poor. So, I am expecting a new version of shealth for note 3.
About the heart rate, I noticed that during the exercice the precision is not always good, but at the end the average is ok. Let see further with some more experience. meanwhile I will hold the polar retirement.
Come on Samsung, We are expecting an update, our phones are not so old.
Regards

Lovers and Haters...

I've just ordered my Gear VR and it will arrive tomorrow. Have done a ton of reading online about user's impressions. Seems a real dichotomy. About 95% of users think it is an amazing can't-miss experience, while 5% claim it is absolutely horrific (pixelated, out of focus, uncomfortable, just awful). It makes one wonder what is going on here. Are those 5% just technology snobs who are expecting to be transported to the Enterprise Holodeck for $200, or are the 95% just fanboys who are basically amazed by shiny moving things?
I was particularly moved by one YouTube video from a fellow who has owned every Oculus Rift Developer Headset thus far and felt the Gear VR was a superior visual experience (acknowledging of course that PC's will always run more robust games than a cell phone). One reason for my getting this is so my mother, who is wheelchair bound, can experience things visually she can no longer do in real life.
Also, I'm wondering if increasing DPI reduces pixelization? Is that a dumb question? Not sure.
Opinions?
Everyone hated on the Note series when Samsung first made it. Now look at its success.
People just hating because deep down inside they know they should have bought a Note 4.
I almost bought a Nexus 6 and if I did knowing what I know today I'd be pissed too.
Haha suckers! Lol
The display is slightly pixilated but nothing too excessive. When watching a 3d film in oculus cinema you hardly notice and I'm personally very happy with it . At the end of the day the phone screen is being magnified so much it is to be expected

Slightly? If anything is a couple of meters from the camera the image gets so blurry that you cannot even recognise the person. It doesn't make the Gear VR any less of a wonder, but the resolution could definitely be improved. Not sure if a near-eye light field lens could solve the problem, as right now the lens only uses a small part of the screen.

That sounds like you need to use the focus wheel or wear contacts. Definitely exaggerated.
To OP: the image is on par with a CRT Television picture in terms of pixels. The 360 videos lack the most definition because of their low quality definition. Still 360 photos show the potential and are quite impressive. The videos, particularly the virtual tourism videos you'll find in Milk VR under Planet VR are still very impressive. There is nothing like flying over Manhattan from the belly of a helicopter. The Cinema is also impressive and easy to forget you aren't in a real theater.
I took my Gear VR to a research office where 7 people proceeded to try it and be blown away. Guess what? I realized after the first round that that focus wheel was set for me without my glasses, and I can't see for sh** without them or contacts. So I corrected it and they went for another round.

Yes, it does. The goal is to increase the display to at least 4k, which we will likely see on the Note 5 . The pixels on the current Oculus devices are due to the magnification of the screen when looking through the lenses. The key is to remember that as of today, the Note 4 offers that highest definition display available at that size.
Just see it as the same evolution we had with our TV sets. The quality of the image right now is at a point where you will definitely be able to enjoy VR without being overly distracted while also seeing where we will be going in the the very near future as we hit 4K and beyond.
Thanks for the replies.
1) I understand that the Gear VR will work with a rooted and rom'd phone. The key is the kernel. Does anyone have a list and link to the best kernels to use with the Gear VR (I'm on Sprint).
2) What DPI setting do you recommend for the least pixelization?
Regarding user experience. I am growing in the opinion that those who seem to be having so much worse of an experience with the device than others is due to something peculiar to how their eyes work. Most of us do not see the same from both eyes. Unlike some upcoming headsets which beam the image into the cornea and can adjust for each eye independently, it's sort of one size fits all with the VR. Just a theory.

What i can say is, I have one eye worse than the other. When wearing contact lenses I'm fine but without them i have to compromise slightly on the focus wheel
The image is pixelated and there's pretty significant screendoor effect, but I'm still a big fan, it's very early in the game, and Samsung deserves praise for bringing it to market when it did.
There will be a ton of headsets out this year I understand, it will be glorious

If this screen is pixelated the Oculus Rift must be awful. I'm really wondering if cranking up the DPI can help that?
I don't have any pixellation unless it's a low quality video, such as if you try to stream Milk VR videos as opposed to downloading them. There is no pixellation at all in games or experiences like Titans of Space, Ocean Rift, and BlueVR.
The screen door effect is easy to overlook. Again, it's like watching a CRT TV. Yes, higher screen resolution will ultimately bring a perception of HD to your eyes. For now, there is nothing you can do. Take a look at your Note 4 screen. It takes serious eye strain to make out those individual pixels. They are only apparent in the Gear because they are magnified.
You'll be seeing for yourself soon enough. It's only a minority of weirdos that have issues with the screen at this stage. The rest are too busy enjoying the overall presentation and know full well the screen door effect will be gone in a year or two.
Well my GVR will finally arrive today. Little BestBuy rant. Last week they announce to the world they will start selling the GVR from their stores February 8th. I have 10 BestBuy stores within 30 minutes of my house. NOT ONE BestBuy in my area had the GVR in stock or had even heard that they would be selling it.
BestBuy does this all the time. Announces a big release then NOTHING.

Not in stock for me to but was available online from them. I got mine 3 business days with free shipping. Thanks best buy.
Ordered mine yesterday with overnight and will have it today! It's on UPS truck out for deliver now. I will post back when I have a chance to experiment with them. Very excited to try something entirely new out. If I like it enough I will buy the Oculus Rift for my PC to fool around with. Just not sure to wait with those or not considering last release is a year old now and something new should be out soon I would think.

Thing I hate about UPS is that my house is like at the very END of his route, so basically even if I get shipped next day, I still have to wait until almost 8 PM before I get my package. Boo!
yeah I will get it about 6pm and it drivers me crazy. I know how you feel I got my Note 4 charged up to 100% and ready to rock this beast haha.

Word of warning. Backup the included SDCard immediately. If you have any "Cleaner" type apps on your phone it may accidentally wipe the card and you will be sorely SOL.
Ok first thing I will do is back it up, thanks for the tip

Clean Master seems to be the biggest offender on this. I just deleted it to make sure.
Just got my package from the UPS truck! Now I have to sneak off from the wife for a bit haha. Wish me luck!

NOTE EDGE compatibility - Custom ROM or ?

Hey guys,
I have been looking around and was wondering if anyone else has been able to get the Gear VR working on the Note Edge with/without a root or any other methods.
I tried with stock ROM and stock Sprint Note Edge but app would not install.
I am now rooted and tried using Emotion R23 N915P by plugging it in and seeing if anything happened. Nothing so far.
I am still going to continue my search and will post any updates if I find a solution.
Any help is appreciated.
I was able to get the Edge to fit the Gear VR Consumer Edition but I failed to get the Oculus app to launch.
I even tried to manually install the Oculus app but it said it was not compatible. Phone is rooted but as I suspected, I am going to have to flash a Note 5 ROM or S6.

Hi. Did you use the firmware Note 5 or S6 to activate Oculus application on Note Edge?

If you simply want to get into VR, why not just use cardboard apps and virtually any other headset. There are dozens available now with more being offered every week. If you are set on GearVR I would recommend getting one of the few phones they support fully ( even those are having problems such as overheating ).

The thing is that I have cardboard and use it with iPhone; Note Edge won't fit very well but I have tried it and I like everything being bigger but light is going in like hell.
I have heard that cardboard and Gear vr are like heaven and hell
Other thing is that I would like to start some vr developing in the future; just went trough first Unity tutorial.
When I have seen first demos on cardboard it was like going back to the childhood and I have realised that this is what I want to do - make some virtual realities!
I think technology is almost ready and when I will be ready it will be even better.
I am not sure if I should invest in Gear vr or Oculus Rift DK2 as my PC is i3 3220 and gtx 750ti. I know it will work but not with best quality (not sure about CPU).
Totally get that. I have the Gear VR myself but use many cardboard apps with it. Those who try it simply want more. (Why won't it work with my phone? Or why do I need a 1000 computer setup to view streamed games?) Most serious gamers I've asked (not me ?) are deciding between rift and vive. Possibly something like the Zeiss headsets can fill in the gaps between Google Cardboard and Gear.

i've seen a guy attempting to fit his Note Edge into consumer gear vr with some DIY hack on the physical form in Youtube (search it). This is due to a much large phone to fit. Even the DIY hack is going to introduce lots of gaps and lights will go in like hell .. Moreover, it doesn't launch Oculus apps with stock rom unlike Note 4. Its a shame that Samsung build a hardware to force people to move on to new phone. Imagine in the future that your current Note 5 or S6 no longer works with the upcoming new Gear VR v2.0 (for example). Upgrading phone now gets a lot more expensive to drag along the gears purchases.
Anyway, after seeing the physical DIY quick and dirty hack in youtube (he'd suggested for longer term hack, it will require cutting away some larger area of plastics), it suddenly point to me why do i need to go through so much trouble on physical device and without a software oculus support just to have Gear VR working on Note Edge? Samsung gave us prev generation of Note consumer the middle finger. Next year when a new Note and Gear VR is launched, they'll give us (and other soon to be obsolete Note userss) another middle finger, ditching older users.
I am not a VR developer, but I can easily tell that current VR state is just a pilot/pioneer. Because of that, VR Gears will be updated and more new launches will come (hence more middle fingers). Samsung is making a bad move by locking it to only certain phone models making this thing proprietary. Reminds me of Apple (now Samsung) vs Google during the initial Android/iOS fight against open and close ecosystem. Now with lots of cheaper VR sets based on cardboard flooding the market, the competition gets heated with more update and improvement made to these "alternative" VR sets. Just in a matter of time, you'll see a price worthy physical VR set (i am not talking about Oculus nor Vibe) that has taken all organic improvements due to intense competitions.
Since you are interested in doing VR development, i may ask, if you want to penetrate the growing market on a locked down ecosystem that only serves a few (and latest) devices, or a greater market with more generic cardboard option?
Well, that's a lot to think about....
I might end up getting S7 Edge so within two year I will probably change my phone again.
But thinking about better iterations of cardboard is changing things a lot...
Hmmm....
Thank you very much for another point of view.
I am keeping my Note Edge and maybe wait for something it will fit.
Thanks
Peter
I hate how the active phones are not compatible and the note edge is not compatible.
Just one more way Samsung gives us the big f u

What are your thoughts, drawbacks, feedback and usage of the G VR

I have been toying with the idea for a few months now.
Am just wondering how you guys have been using it.
Have you enjoyed your experience, Any changes you would make?
What is the clarify of the screen like, being so close to the device.
(I used TV Glasses some years ago, and one thing that annoyed me, was it was like putting your face to the TV and seeing the Colors / Pixels)
Whats the experience watching videos, strained eyes or anything like that?
does the device feel heavy on the head after a long period.
What about app compatibility, is it one of these manufactured devices that are locked down to OEM software only?
How have you been navigating through the menus when wearing the device, is the controller provided easy to use and responsive.
(Easy to use in the fact you cannot see the control Obviously)
And last but not least, what about Games?
I still get the feeling / impression its still a bit gimmicky and don't know if to hold off on the device till someone like Sony make the PS4 VR.
I would appreciate your words and feedback.
I know the value of the device is a steal is comparison to others
My Device is the S7 Edge.
Two words : Ultra Porn
Buy a used one from craigslist, don't like it, put it back up for sale. You could probably get one for $50 if you really look, dont pay more than $70.
I'm glad I bought one (used), but I have a note 5. Theres another thread detailing the lower quality picture while using the S7.
I played around with my buddies oculus and that's what motivated me to get the gear.
The 3d doesn't need to be high resolution to feel immersed. If you are focusing on the pixels or imperfections in your screen protector, you've either got it setup wrong or you' re going out of your way to focus on them.
I dont feel that it's cumbersome to wear, I will probably get a different foam piece like from motorcycle or ski goggles.
Theres any and everything as far as media. People are making their own games, applications and 360* videos left and right. You can make your own 360 picture with your phone, basically taking like 40 pictures or whatever it is, ala panorama style.
There's also Google cardboard, where you can download plans and make one from cardboard, or buy one complete. You can also use the Google Cardboard application with the gear VR, you just wont have the smoother head tracking when using it.
I really enjoy using my Playstation 3 controller and the sixxaxis app hooked to my phone to play games. Theres a go kart racing game, which is "okay" but the proof of concept is great. You can look around when you need to and it's 3d.
The downside is that on Marshmallow there seems to be a lot of problems, I first did everything on Lollipop and didn't really have any issues. I just did a custom MM rom and I've had all kinds of issues and searching reveals others have too.
MAybe wait a little bit until issues are sorted and prices are even cheaper? I like it, you can't beat it's functionality for the price I think.

What phone will you get if returning Note 7??

Well, that was fun and sad. What else is left to say. Note 7 was probably the best phone ever to date and its up in smoke. I'm grabbing a LG V20. You??
Gonna keep my S7 edge loaner phone since it's still waterproof and supports a SD card. In all honesty I'm disappointed I had to give up the note7, really had hoped Samsung would have fixed this issue. Though now I doubt they will continue the Note series after this scandal
i am just waiting for the LG V20 to go on pre-sale
already swapped for a note 5. I'll stick with this till something better comes along since none of this fiasco affected my jump. Reason I didnt go with the s7edge was i'll miss the pen and quite frankly the curved screen and trying to keep protection on it drove me nuts. Also used a loaner s7E for 2 weeks and just didnt care for it that much.
I am thinking I'll go with the Pixel XL 128GB whenever they come back in stock for order from Google. I'll return the Note 7 which should end my JOD. Next year I may go with the Note 8 (or whatever they may call it) if I can get back onto JOD. Who knows if JOD will even be in existence then.
I am thinking Pixel because it should at least stay up to date. I am going to miss Samsung Pay.
Not sure what I'm going to do. As you can see by my signature, I've been on Android for years. Right now I have to narrow 3 decisions down to one. They are 1. Keep my Note 7 and take my chances. I have a feeling if I keep it and refuse to turn it in, eventually T-Mo will block all Note 7's IMEI numbers from registering on the network. 2. I also have been looking at the LG V20 which is available for preorder on 10/17, and the 3rd, is a weird one. I have been watching videos of the iPhone 7 plus. It would be nice to try something different. Every Android phone I get, always gets Nova Launcher installed and restored so it's like I end up with the same phone with every new phone I get lol. Apple store gives you 14 days to return with no restocking fee if I want to try one out. I've always bad mouthed Apple, Damn, what to do

I did. To which i replied NO and they got so pissed at me that they just ignored me lol :crying:
I'm undecided. Anything I would get I sacrifice something. Not a huge fan of the S7 edge or the V20. The pixel XL is a possibility. The phone I'm leaning toward most is actually the Nexus 6P. The question is if I can get financed via newegg or Google for either phone. I'm a college student and don't wanna buy them outright, so if I could just pay monthly like I do now that'd be great.

I'm on Tmobile as well and havent received a text either as of yet..
I am not sure either. I just might go back to my Note 2 (even though the screen is cracked and headphone jack only works sometimes) for now. Yes, it is coming to the point of coming back to four year old technology. Galaxy S7 Edge will allow to use the Gear Fit2. LG V20 is the best second option on T-Mobile. Neither comes close to what Galaxy Note 7 is as a whole package. Which means backing out for now until next year maybe my best option,
I am still considering either Galaxy S7 Edge or LG V20. I just wonder if I would be happy with them since using Galaxy Note 7.
Here is some stuff I will miss from Galaxy Note 7: Back and front curve glass design, HDR video controller, fast charging, S Pen, the option to set the device to lower resolution for better battery life, more control of background process with apps, Samsung Health (measuring SpO2, Heart Rate, Steps, Walking Mileage, Walking Time, Stress point measure, etc), Gear Fit2 integration, Apps Edge, 5.7" 2K Super AMOLED curved screen (that is able to reproduce HDR colors and playback 4K content), etc.
The Note 7 camera (video and still) can either be matched or close to matched by Galaxy S7 Edge and LG V20. The CPU in S7 Edge and V20 is the same as Note 7. LG V20 has much better audio, audio recording, and better software for video and audio recording, but otherwise it is behind the Galaxy Note 7.
Basically nothing in the market to match Galaxy Note 7 as a whole package. This is the reason I am having such problems with this.
I will wait for LG V20 then I will return the Note 7 and make a choice of next device.
I am angry at Samsung in not being straight. Are they going to startup manufacturing again or just kill the line? Samsung only say they are stopping production temporary while they come up better manufacturing solution (and resuming production in later date) and for us to return our current device for refund for now. They hinted that they will resume manufacturing once they resolved the manufacturing issue. The hint is where some of us believe that there will be a third version. While the rest believe that is the end. Samsung has not commented in any concrete fashion if this is the true end or not. Not even an email or update to device to show which way they are going long term (like they did with the first version). I didn't get any text either on their long term plan info.
Yes, the news media and bloggers (in different media) are making their noise about this. But at this point in time nothing from Samsung to say one way or the other in a concrete fashion.
So regardless if this is true or not we have no choice but to believe this is the end. Samsung Needs To Communicate the full information of what they are planning to do.
At the end: I feel completely abandoned by Samsung. And now that I experienced such top end, full featured package of the Galaxy Note 7, I feel completely disappointed by all other devices.
Samsung is probably in the state of shock, people involved with N7 are probably wondering where will they find next job (somebody needs to be blamed for $20B+ loss) and large companies take time to make and announce decisions, so we may have to wait and see. The way I see it: forget N7 and actually no more Note line phones, but it would be beyond idiotic not to relaunch 5.7 inch flagship phone with S-pen (Galaxy S-pen anyone?), since this is probably the only phone line with no direct competition at all. Some report says now 50% surveyed respondents have negative connotation about Note brand, but to me it's clear other 50% don't, so I'm not even sure changing brand is even necessary and Note 8 would be a perfect vehicle for launching some new, less fire prone battery chemistry.

Well I noticed when the chips on right side (including CPU chip) heats up the battery slowly heats up on the left side (using Phone Info+ app as temp reference for the CPU & battery as well as hand touch). The battery does stay lower than CPU chip temp. And the battery is much slower to heat up then the CPU chip too. I wonder if the heat from the chips on the right side is causing the battery on the left to heat up. Seems not to have a good enough heat protection for the battery from the heat of the chips on its right. This would mean a redesign of the internals of the Note. Or at least a better heat protection for the battery from the heat of the chips. There is little way for the heat to be released for the device. I wonder if it better to use the metal sides/edges to release the heat (much like a heat sink works).
The device doesn't need to be that thin either which is part of the issues with the battery connectors end up touching each other. Which brings a question: Would a drop cause the battery connectors to touch each other with them being so close to each other?
I also notice when I manage background process for apps that then temp for both CPU and battery stays so much lower. As well as battery lasts much longer per charge.
Though I find that the battery mostly stays lower than 100F (in the 80s and 90s).
Interesting that the chips side (right) heats up while the battery side (left) stays cool or somewhat cool to touch.
Which means redesigning the device. If this is the case, then Samsung should say that they are going to wait until next year to release a new "Note" or whatever name they call the new device. Just be straight up to your customers. Their customers deserve at least that.

I feel the same way. As a package, there is nothing available either now or in the immediate future that compares with the Note 7. But this phone is way too expensive to John Wayne it and see what they'll do to holdouts that won't stop using it. I'm not particularly worried about the thing blowing up. The odds are forever in my favor.
Either the Pixel XL or the V20 are the next best phones without going to the dark side (Apple.) Rumor has it that Verizon's exclusive to the Pixel might be very short lived. My trouble with the Pixel is no SD card (I have over 120 GB of music that I carry with me.) I certainly won't be going back to Verizon.
