I've been away for a while, please help! - Moto X Q&A

Hello all,
I've been away from this board for a long time and I need help because my phone is really screwing up. My phone is unlocked and rooted. I have "PhilZ Touch6" (6.57.9) recovery? And ClockworkMod. My Moto X is a first generation phone.
I need help with the following:
I forgot how to boot the phone into recovery mode. I turn it off and it simply reboots not giving me the option to boot into the recovery mode.
Which stock ROM can I flash? (link or name?)
Thank you.
Alex

Not to be mean but Google is your friend, there is also a search feature on this forum but, to get to the bootloader, while the device is off hold the volume down key and the power key for 2-3 seconds then release. From there you can get to recovery. (But I recommend a more modem recovery) As for roms just search.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

1. Hold Vol- Button and then Power Button for 3 seconds, then let go the Power button.
With Vol- navigate to where it says "recovery" then press Vol+ to access to it.
2. Depending on The model of your phone XT10xx e.g. mine is XT1053 you should download full Firmware so it flashes proper modem and bootloader images too.
There is a thread, google it like this:
stock flashable zips for moto x ghost, xda
There you will also find latest original untouched firmwares.

You're not being mean and I usually tell others the same. I'm just looking for a quick answer because I'm so busy right now (school, work, kids) and my phone is screwing up so badly to the point of my desperation. Thanks for the help just the same.

[Q] Boot directly to recovery

Instead of doing the usual VOLDOWN + PWR and then waiting a couple minutes to get into the bootloader and selecting recovery, is there any button combination to boot directly to recovery?
i have AMON-RA 2.2.1 if that makes any difference
Nope.
Couple of min? It's 2 sec to bootloader, and another 10-15 sec to recovery.

Rom manager, a number of roms also come with 4way reboot mod which gives us the option to reboot to recovery on press of the power button

pretty much rom manager is the way I do it.. There should be a way to do it like you say op
You could go with a rom manager. I know CWM does it. Also if you don't mind you can use the cable and adb (assuming you have the sdk-tools) from your computer.

Want to change rom, but problem with power button

Hello ladies and gents,
I ahve a very simple question, i want to follow the CyanogenMod thread to change roms on my milestone because it is acting up on me and it def. needs a refresher, but my main problem is that my power button does not work anymore, and i'm afraid the only way i have for it to turn on is if i connect it to a computer...when i just connect the phoen to a wall it just shows me charging...but as soon as i connect it to a computer it officially turns on.
So, do i need my power button to be able to complete the rom change, AND, is there such a thing as a rom or an app that would allow me to turn the phone on with a different button????
Thanks for your help peeps it is greatly appreciated!!!

Maybe 'reboot recovery' through adb or terminal emulator.

Since my power button is broken, if ever it shuts down or needs to restart and doesn't automatically, i don't want to have to unplug it and/or temper with it...so basically well, that was exactly my question; will i ever need my power button while flashing/changing roms on the device?
If not then i will go ahead and do the rom change.
My 2nd question was, since my power button is broken, my screenlock/unlock is also unfunctional and if ever my phone shuts off i can't turn it back on unless i connect it to a computer. Is there such a thing as an app or a feature(from a specific rom) that would allow me to configure the phone to turn on with a different button? Same thing for the screenlock/unlock.
I hope i explained myself better
Thanks for your time!!

Can't help you for the first question... Think it's impossible to boot without power button nor plugged USB.
But for the second, it's known that all CM (at least since 7) have this option : wake up with volume buttons
Some other ROM include it but can't tell you which one. Sorry.
What scoutme saying is correct, when the mobile is turning on and if u have pressed the camera button, it will trigger boot to recovery mode.
One more suggestion, why don't u use quick reboot widget, it has option to reboot to recovery. It does all what physical power button does. Try it out...

I've been dealing with this problem for about 6 months or so, if you are about to start from the scratch like sdcard partition and sbf and applying stuff I guess there's' no way you can do it...
All I did was downloaded the required ROM and placed in OR and I got a app for getting to recovery which is "Quick Boot"
Search on play store, its free ;which has got 4 options in it namely reboot, recovery ,boot loader and power off ...did it that way
Hope this helps

To wake up the device (booted device, that has a locked screen) you can slide out the keyboard. CM7 indeed has a setting to wake it up with volume keys. For CM9 I do not remember and CM10 does not have that option yet as far I have noticed (I could be wrong, though).
What ROM do you currently have? Motorola stock? CyanogenMod? What version?
If you have non-moto it is rooted and has a busybox installed. You can execute
Code:
reboot recovery
form Terminal emulator which will take you to recovery. You can also connect it to computer, open Command prompt/Terminal (depends on your PC OS) and execute
Code:
adb shell
reboot recovery
Ccommand
Code:
adb reboot
to reboot the device or
Code:
adb reboot recovery
to reboot directly to recovery should also work. I'm unsure if it works on moto stock.
(Make sure you have enabled USB debugging in Settings.)
After that you should be directly in open recovery menu. Or press Volume up + Camera button if "stuck" on triangle screen.
Keyboard key combo, Left shift + Right alt + Delete reboots the device.
No matter what method you used to turn on the device you should be able to boot to recovery: while device is booting press and hold the keyboard X (needs to be done early in the process) to boot to recovery if you have bootloader 90.78. For previous bootloader vesions the camera button should do the same.
To boot to bootloader you need to press and hold D-pad up while the device is booting. Afaik, command
Code:
reboot bootloader
will boot to fastboot mode which is of no use for flashing sbf files (I can only assume that 3rd party apps and widgets use that method to get to bootloader/fastboot). You need bootloader mode to flash vunerable recovery, if not done already.
As minor side note, you have posted a help request in a Development section. Plus, all of this has been discused already. It is mostly scatterd around but not impossible to find.

I get into recovery by plugging it in anywhere, PC or wall, then hold X while its booting, once the recovery screen shows up, unplug, let go, and press whatever buttons you need. If its not X that you have to press, press whatever you need to when its booting.

For your question 1, please install this in your phone: http://www.mediafire.com/?wvw2sde2eldw2x4
there will be two icons in your phone afer installed, one for power off (can reboot into Recovery)
,another one is screen off.
For the second, all CM6(cm7 not sure) have this option : wake up with volume buttons (setting>cm setting>input setting>volume rocker wake)
By the way, if the PowerLock.apk doesn't switch you to recovery, you may need to copy this to your phone:
http://www.mediafire.com/?kvq45p4nscjwf88
How to use 60autoboot_or :
1) copy it to your system floder first
2) change permissions as:
VVV
VXV
XXX
3) then move it to system/etc/init.d
4) REBOOT

[Q] I think I bricked my phone :( :( - PLEASE help!

Hi,
I tried the regular fastboot method to load CWM recovery.
Whenever it got to the point of loading the recovering, it would just say "flashing recovery on the device...".
Then, when restarting bootloader and clicking on "recovery", it would just shut down the phone.
I decided to experiment to try fix the issue, and I came across this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928551
I downloaded the ZIP file and I ran the root.bat
It flashed some boot images and now my phone wont start
It is stuck on the "warning bootloader unlocked screen" and will not go any further.
Please help . I'm so scared that I've bricked my phone. Is there ANYTHING I can do?
Thanks in advance for the help!
The methods u used can't brick your phone
Reboot in boot loader by pressing the power button and volume - button at the same time. Just at the moment the phone shuts-down/reboot release the power button. It will boot in boot loader. After this flash cwm or twrp again and with the volume down button go to recovery. Select recovery with the volume up key and u are done. Cwm/twrp is flashed and will boot in the recovery.
In recovery I would install the ROM from Omar. It will restore your system and boot.IMG so it will work. Don't forget to wipe data.
If this doesn't work flash the home made fast boot files somewhere in the development section

Thanks - I tried that. I do let go of the buttons as soon as it starts to reboot itself, but it doesn't start the bootloader - it still just shows the screen "warning bootloader unlocked". I can not get back into the bootloader

If I hold all 4 buttons, the screen goes blank, and the green light stays on. My PC then finds hardware called "MEDFIELD" but wont find drivers for it.
Does this help at all?

The above applies when connected with usb.
If I press all 4 buttons without USB connected, it just reboots and gets stuck on the "unlocked bootloader" message again

You should let go only of power button and hold vol.down button (at least for me)
If your PC finds hardware - can you do fastboot devices to check whether it is actually recognized properly?
And last thing - which method you used to load recovery (and were you on ICS\JB)? You were rooted and used automated methods or you unlocked bootloader and wanted to root afterwards (manually through fastboot)?

You are a GENIUS!!! A LIFE SAVER!!! I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am. BOTH of your points fixed the phone.
I could never get into recovery becuase I was pressing the power button. I could never get into fastboot becuase I was holding both the power and volume down button.
So, for anyone using a RAZR I... please note the following SIMPLE things:
1) In the bootloader menu, the power button does NOT select the option. The VOL UP button selects the option
2) To boot into BOOTLOADER : Hold both power and vol down buttons until the phone restarts, and then RELEASE the power button, while still HOLDING the volume down button! It will then load the bootloader.
Again, THANKS so so much for reviving my phone for me. I was going crazy without a phone!

Nice that it is solved. I gave u the solution on my first post, but nice that someone els did a better job in explaining it
There is almost no possibilities to brick your device if u only flash things like the boot, system, recovery or data partition. They can he solved very easy. If u flash the other partitions like the radio u can get a problem.

[Q] ASAP HELP stuck in "warning unlocked bootloader"

I originally had CM 10.1.3 on my Atrix hd but i wanted to try the unnofficial pacman rom, so i went into CWM recovery, made a backup, factory reset, wiped /system, cache, blah blach but when installing pacman rom i got status 7 so i didnt feel like using a zipping program to fix it, then i went to reboot recovery and bam, stuck on the unlocked bootloader screen, i tried ALL fastboot options, none will get past this unlocked bootloader screen and the phone tuns on all by itself and there's no way to pull the damn battery, please don't tell me my phone i screwed. What do i do?
IM literally on the brink of crying
Chill. You probably just had a bad download of the zip. Do you have a backup from a previous ROM?

Why did you reboot recovery? Unplug your phone, press the power button to turn it off, then hold both power buttons and press the power button until a list comes up, go into recovery, wipe user data/system and restore your backup. We have an official PAC ROM now, use that.

It seems like when you hold down power to shut off your phone, it won't stay off, correct? This means you need to quickly press the button combo (Power + Both Vol Buttons) as soon as it shuts off, it should come up with a list of black and white options. If you don't have a Nandroid recovery, then you will use Vol Down to highlight the AP Fastboot option and Vol Up to select it, if you do, then select the Recovery option and proceed restoring from there. When in fastboot mode, use RSD Lite to flash back to a stock firmware. Your phone is far from bricked. If you keep rebooting to Bootloader Unlocked screen no matter what option you choose, you may have to look into buying or making a Fastboot Cable. This will force your device into Fastboot mode so you can flash a stock ROM, I doubt this will be necessary though. If your phone can turn on, it isn't hard bricked. You're in the clear, don't worry.
RSD Lite Guide and Download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231249
Download link to stock firmware: http://sbfdownload.droid-developers...MB886_NII_TA-2-16-release-keys-NII-MX.xml.zip
Don't forget to replace your XML file with the one here: https://www.box.com/s/num1eshkf0c2or2h4160
Just go into your firmware zip, delete the old .xml, and drag in the new one. Start the RSD flash, sit back, relax, make sure (if you are using one) that your laptop is either connected to power or has sufficient battery life, and that you don't unplug your cable during flash.

You can look up a guide on Google. It requires a bit of rewiring/soldering of your Motorola cable though. If you aren't comfortable with that stuff, you can buy one for Atrix HD for like $5-$10

Great! The fastboot cable should force it into fastboot, just plug it into your PC during the time your phone is off. You may have to let it charge for a bit. From there its only a matter of flashing stock ROM.
It may be called Motorola Factory Cable or Motorola Fastboot Cable, either one. Just make sure you get a Motorola Atrix HD one lol

[Q] Hard bricked my mb886

Hi guys! After a failed firmware, my mb886 is bricked. If press the button(Vol+ Vol- Pwr), nothing happens. And RSD doest detect phone.
Fastboot just doest work.
When connected to the pc green LED lights and it shows up as USB Input Device and HID-compliant in device manager. Hardware ID is (USB\VID_05C6&PID_F006&REV_0000).
Under Linux, defined as Qualcomm inc.
Now it's for parts or have a way to recover? Maybe someone has a JTAG pinout for mb886?
And sorry for my english))
Is your bootloader unlocked? What firmware were you originally on and which did you try to flash? Did you try manually or with Myth Tools?
Plug it into your PC so you can see the green light. Hold all 3 buttons until it turns off. Then let go of all of them, then hold the Vol Down and power buttons, and when you see the boot logo (Moto logo) on the screen let go of the power button and continue holding Vol Down until you get a black screen with white text. At this point, you can try flashing a new firmware with Myth Tools. Don't flash a custom ROM, only official firmwares.
If you don't have Moto fastboot you can search around for it.

I have a link to a thread with the Moto Fastboots (all OS's) in the very last post of my fastboot guide. Gonna eventually upload it to Copy and update my OP with it, but for now the link to the thread with it and some other good Moto information is good enough.

@penser
I do not know whether the unlocked bootloader. This phone got to me in this condition ((
The problem is that the phone does not respond to hold buttons.
Apparently fastboot was erased and I need to restore it. Then I'll be able to flash the stock firmware in the RDS

Thanks for that reply. Saved me. However I was unable to get myth tools to complete anything.
Finally I found the rsd lite . Then it failed each time. But I figured out there was a problem in flashing the modem.
I fastboot the modem separately , then ran rsd with the stock firmware found in one of these threads and finally got my phone back.
Now, I'm rooted, boot loader unlocked, and have philz recovery on it.
Somehow I'd lost recovery of any kind. And every flash failed, with an error of no block (and I forget the three letter name it had on error).
This is my first Motorola that I've messed with. I've had galaxy's for the most part.
I tried the pa moto ROM. But had no WiFi so I didn't go much further with it. Restored the backup I made with philz.
Going to try some different ROMs tonight.
On flashing back to stock, just keep trying as it seems very touchy.
Also be sure to delete the lines in the XML file in firmware. Everything went a lot more smooth after that!
Thanks!
