Guys, please advice on this one.
I was pretending to factory reset my S5 mini DUOS a while ago to claim 50GB dropbox space (Link "How to claim 50GB dropbox for S4" @ android central ) but just this morning I got the OTA request to update to Lollipop.
1. Is the above link to factory reset -> claim dropbox space legit? Has anybody succesfully claimed the extra space after reset?
2. If I do reset:
Which is the best full backup methods? I mean full - apps, settings, internet cache, allll
After reset, I will again get the OTA update? or is it safe better to upgrade first to lollipop and THEN factory reset?
Thanks in a advance!
Just full backup with twrp and clear all data and dalvik, get dropbox and restore full backup.
I think that'll work..

Good Morning All,
I have done some searching and have not found anything specific to my question on Factory Resets and Frozen Software Updates. I am assuming a Factory Reset will essentially thaw anything I have frozen with Titanium since it is essentially reverting the phone back to factory default. However, when I have updated ROMs or installed new ones, I have always been told and had to thaw Software Udpate before updating otherwise it would cause issues even with performing a data wipe.
Is this the same with a Factory Reset? Or do I need to thaw Software Update before doing a factory reset?
I am assuming a Factory Reset is different from a Data Wipe but I am not 100%.
Normally, I would just thaw the freeze since it is so easy, but I had lost root reverting back to the stock kernel from Blitzkreig. I know I can just regain root and then thaw, but I would prefer to not waste my time if it is necessary. Also, it is just something good to know for future use.
Appreciate the help here.
All,
I have some trouble with s Health that I think is due to root. I would like to clear out the phone and set it up again and tried "Factory data reset" but this did not fix everything and in fact did not seem to remove my root. Is there a more complete factory reset method to return the system to full stock mode?
Thanks,
Tim

You're going to need to flash in order to get rid of root. Tutorial comes with the link above.

You dont need to reset the phone. Its been a common problem with alot of people including myself. If you have root it sems that S-health doesnt like the latest update. Go into applications/applications manager/ALL and scroll to HealthService. Select it then clear cache/data and uninstall updates. then go to S-Health and do the same.Reboot and it will be fine and even work still after it updates again.
Also factory resets dont get rid of root. You need to flash you official firmware via Odin to do that mate.
OK so I just got the note 4. rooted the device with cf auto root restored apps from former phone (note 3) without data. now I'm getting errors (google play services, Bluetooth share and Google+ has stopped) and Bluetooth isn't working . Any ideas on how to go bout fixing. Thanks in advance forum.

Do a a factory reset in recovery mode and thou shall no longer have those errors.
And do not restore apps using titanium backup or any other backup when coming
from a different model of the phone. Only restore apps which were backed up on
the same phone and model. (that's basically what backups were intended to do).
Just in case the "factory reset" in stock recovery does not do the trick for you then
your only solution is to do a factory reset in recovery and odin flash the official
stock Note 4 N910T firmware.
Good luck!

Couldn't of said it better my self. Never restore apps or data. Unless it is the same phone.
NOTE 4
Thanks forum. Had an idea that would be my best solution. Just didn't want to read download and setup all my apps. Is what it is though. Again thanks for reinsurance.
Hi,
Just got my new Nexus 6 64GB. Rooted and I transferred my titanium backup files from my Galaxy Note 3. Everything went fine. 3 hour later all my apps are up and running and I'm peachy.
After that I was doing some reading a I stumbled upon the tutorial on how to disable encryption. I gave it a go and upon restart it asked me for my pin number. I enter the pin and then I get the message saying that the phone has to be reset. I hit reset and after the procedure finished phone rebooted and all my files where completely wiped clean. In all my previous phones I could do a reset and keep all my downloaded and backed up files. Is there a way to do this too with the nexus or every time I screw something up I will loose everything?
Stock recovery always resets /sdcard too. Custom recovery only /data and /cache, etc.
However, ALL your data is on an encrypted file system so the only way to decrypt is by reformatting the places that contain ALL the data

Does this apply even if I disabled the encryption?
I love the phone but this is an issue for me. Please give me your opinion on which is the best way to go. I was thinking to not install a custom recovery so I can be able to do the OTA updates even thought I never owned a phone that I didn't root and install custom recovery and ROM from day one (Only have used Samsung Note Phones all these years). Is there a ROM that is based on the Original with encryption disabled and has some good tweaks and will be updated as soon as there is an update? Thanks for your help.

All phones that have "internal storage" their stock recovery wipes "sdcard" when you factory reset.

The ROMs have nothing to do with encryption. When you want to turn encryption off, all your data will be reset, there is no way around it.
However, once you have disabled encryption, then you can stay on a stock rooted ROM, or go to any ROM you like, your internal files will not be touched (data will be deleted though). If you were to stay on the stock rooted ROM, and then accept an OTA update, your phone will automatically encrypt on first boot afterwards. Most ROMs update within a day (if not hours) after the OTA update, so best bet is to flash than to accept OTA if you want to stay unencrypted.
When you wipe your phone in recovery yo flash a different ROM, you do a custom wipe, where you uncheck "internal storage", so your files/pictures/etc don't get deleted.
The cool thing about the N6 is the restore option. If you were to completely wipe right now and go to a different ROM, on first boot, upon logging in you will be asked if you want to restore a backup (if you have enabled backup apps, data, WiFi passwords for your google account). If you select yes, all your apps will automatically be downloaded from the play store, you won't have to do it manually. However, I have seen data for the app is not restored, but you can log into most apps and most games save your progress on the cloud now.
Hi,
Does root prevent updates? I am still from January 5th ?
How unroot for update ?
Regards.
Basically, you'll need to download & flash the latest image from Google and then redo the root (minus unlocking the bootloader, which won't be reset).

Nope, It's lost. You could have just updated the firmware manually, much simpler than messing with the bootloader lock.
It's not possible to recover SQL files for example ?
I personally made any reset, It's definitely lost ?

Yes. You must be signed into your Google account to back up data from your phone. Otherwise, a factory reset (such as when you lock or unlock the bootloader) wipes all user data, and there is NO way of recovering that data.
Good, I'll know it for next time.
