Hi,
my Xperia Z got damaged and I need to ship it back for service repair. But I already rooted it so I can't apply my guarantee atm. So my question is how to roll it back to the original state that nobody can find out? The problem I am having is that half of my display got cracked (itself - seriously!) and is not responding to any touches (just right half). So after I turn on my phone I am obviously stucked on my own maze lock unable to unlock it. Also I am not able to log in via my google account to prevent the maze lock (can type but the crack is near the button Send so I am not able to send my credentials). Rotating the display doesn't help either. Luckily, I installed CWM recovery which uses only hardware buttons so I should be able to use WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET option which will wipe the maze lock so I should be able to connect it via Sony Companion. But then I am not sure if I would be able to roll it back to the original state after. I don't know what would WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET do to root and CWM. Is Sony Companion able to repair/restore my phone to the very original state? Would CWM still be installed on the phone? Would I have a root?
Here is a list of things I did with my Xperia so far after rooting:
- Uninstalled Sony Movies app by Titanium Backup (I didn't backup my phone before - stupid).
- Upgraded to SuperSU Pro (don't think it matters)
- Installed CWM
- Flashed [SOUNDMOD]PureXAudio (I am still able to revert this via CWM and and the stock audio flash)
So I am looking for a best way to restore my phone to the original state before I will send it to the service. My phone is from Japan if it matters to kernel or firmware. If you would suggest me to use some kernel/firmware could you provide me a link please?
Thanks in advance!!!
Not tricky at all
Rooting does not invalidate your warranty. But if you are outside of Japan, and your phone is japanese, you won't be covered by warranty anyway.
If you still wanna get the phone back to original, just flash with Sony Update Service. If SUS detects modified software and refuses to flash, which it probably will, you always could flash with flashtool.
Flashing will bypass the pattern unlock and rewrite everything back to stock.
If there is important info you might wanna save before flashing, connect a mouse to the Xperia Z and use it to unlock the pattern.

Are you sure about this statement? I've always read it MIGHT affect a warranty.

Why? My phone was ordered from Japan, came from Hong Kong, was delivered to UK by my gf and will go back the same way...

Yes. Taken many rooted Xperia devices to service.

OK, I thought you were taking your phone to a local Sony Service. Warranty is only valid on the country the phone was bought.

USB OTG cable comes in handy.
If warranty is denied, claiming user neglect, then root doesn't matter - you will have to pay. If they believe screen cracked by itself and honor warranty, then root also doesn't matter as rooting won't crack the screen

just flash the orginal firmware via flashtool
rooting your phone does not void your warranty .. unlocking the bootloader do
Flash FTF,camera can't use
Press the camera button is unresponsive!
What model? C6903 ?
Lte connection works?

The problem I have with the FTF's for the c6903 is that my device rotations all seem to be inverted. I think something with the kernel is causing rotation on my device to be inverted. To get around it, I'm just locking my rotation as I need it to be, but it gets irritating with the camera. When i take pics with the camera, they all come out upside down, so I need to rotate them. lol
i also had this problem this morning.
the camera cannot focus..
its so terrible :crying:
I had the same problem after unlocking bootloader and flashing a new firmware. But luckily I did have the backupTA on the state before I unlocking my device. What I did to fix this, which you guys might think is really stupid its that I had my device in the camera unusable state (after flashing the TW 526 ftf for C6902 firmware) and restore on the backup that was before I unlock my bootloader and found myself bricked the device. And then what I did was to of course flash the same firmware again (I do not know why I can still enter flash mode on my device, but it did). The result was that I find my device's camera worked in terms of both capturing photos and recording videos and with the firmware I wanted.
P.S. My device was bought in China which had the CN 518 firmware originally and I do not know why it worked, but it just does for me, so do it at your own risk
Hi all, yesterday I flashed .101 using Flashtool (from .222) but the Flashtool binaries were corrupted and something went wrong and got bootloop. Today I used a different PC and at least it has been possible to install a custom ROM (.222) but the network is not working now. The PIN is requested but sometimes it fails and sometimes it just accept the PIN but there is no network. WiFi works fine. I have used this Xperia for more than a year and working well. My device is C6603 bootloader locked.
Thank you!

First of all, you can't flash a custom FW without unlocking the bootloader. If you so choose to unlock it, make sure you backup TA partition - it's used for DRM storage which is used for advanced camera functions (like noise canceling in pics, bravia engine and other sony stuff). Second just flash a proper FW with flashtool, wipe everything and see if it works.

Yes, you can flash a custom ROM based on stock with locked bootloader. It's what I have done successfully dozens of times, but my problem is as described in the OP, now I have a 5.1 android installation running well except the network data that doesn't work at all.

You could try to use sony pc companion to repair your phone. Sometimes, when it comes to corrupted data, flashtool won't do much good - it's something related to the TA partition that pc companion is good at fixing (I had some bootloops caused by bad root and flashtool couldn't help). You could try it and see if it works and if it does, use flashtool after to flash the rootable 5.02 and continue with the root.

OK, I just did it and didn't work, but this thing happened: Just after repair (using PC Companion) it booted and the text was chinese! I'm spanish, my PC language is spanish, my previous smartphone language was spanish... I don't know what is happening here but I thing this chinese thing is related to the SIM problem.

Somehow related but it isn't uncommon. I had an Xperia ZR bought from an official local retailer and when I opened the box I had a weird charger and first boot was in chinese. Sometimes they bring phones made for hong kong or signapore and sell them on european markets. 5.11 update might have different api s for the sim card, so different regions might not be compatible. This is only a speculation. Pc companion flashes the latest FW acording to your phone boot version, ets and customization. Imma PM you for more details.
I'm having problems with the camera on my Z3C, so I'm planning on returning it to Sony for repairs. I'm aware that unlocking the bootloader reduces the quality of the camera, and this phone has had the bootloader unlocked to root it, but I'm pretty sure I've taken the right steps to restore the DRM keys and the phones back in factory condition, I'm just hoping someone can confirm I haven't missed something.
The phone was rooted originally using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343 . After rooting, the camera was still working fine, so don't think that was the problem.
I kept the DRM key backups generated by TA-restore. I have since restored those (just in case) and used sony companion to completely reset the phone. I understand that also gets rid of the root (superSU is definitely gone). This post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55920017&postcount=155 suggests you can check your DRM keys through the security bit of the service menu, and all eight of them say [key OK] [active], so I'm hoping those are ok to. I'm also assuming that as the DRM keys appear to be there the bootloader must be locked.
Is there anything I'm missing that Sony can make a fuss about when I return it? I've searched to try to make sure I've got everything, but I'm an amateur at this so I might well have misunderstood something. Don't want this costing me money!
Thanks for any help.
Hello
Can i return it to sony if the back is broken?
Hey, i have got a little problem. My friends from school had locked my phone by a pattern lock. The worst thing is they don't remember it ... Isthere any way to take it off or even factory reset my sony xperia z3 compact ?
I got this phone couple days ago and i dont want to destroy it ;C
The phone is not rooted or unlocked ;S
factory reset, yes, use PC Companion for this.
in the future, set the pattern yourself and don't give this phone to these kind of friends.
Can't after i installed pcc and plugged my phone into pc i got something like this
"Your tablet/phone memony is not accessible
1.The sim card is inserted an the pin code entered
2.the screen of phone / tablet is unlocked"
:S
To fix this issue, I would recommend you to re-install the OS on the phone using the tool Flashtool with a firmware file. These can be obtained in the general section of the forum, and there should be plenty of tutorials on how to use Flashtool to restore your phone in the forums.
