by note 4 to mate s: problems with evernote / s note - Huawei Mate S

hello, I have the following problem.
I made the change from note 4 to hauwei mate s both with Android 5.1.1 and I can not change the notes in evernote. I try to explain better: for years use the app's notes, with which I edit of customer files (estimates and advances).
s account and the notes' synchronized with evernote. not having known s the mate's, I installed on the latter evenote.sono entered my evernotein account which I find all the notes previously saved. The problem 'that these notes open the mate's, me and displays them in .spd clicking formed above me opens in .jpeg displaying them as if they were photographs. my need, as described above, and 'to update these notes periodically (for example, entering any deposit left by the customer, as I did on notes 4), but the mate, I do not do' do.
at this point, I ask if anyone knows the method of operating the apk's notes on non samsung terminals ... I think it's the only solution.
The same question applies to s health, that 'if there is possibility' of use of non-Samsung terminals to meet up the data of the steps / activities' carried out that are memeorizzati in the backup.
the last request (s health) is not 'imperative. the previous one (s notes), instead, for business reasons you can imagine.
Thanks in advance

Galaxy Note Crash report

Hi people. I wanted to report my horrible experience today and i found no general thread to add my input so i created one.
At some point during the day i opened the S note app to browse some notes i'd written last night when the phone froze while trying to open one. I pressed down the power button to restart the phone but all it did was shut down so i plugged the charger in to see if the battery died (weird because it was still at 70%+). The phone responded to this and the offline battery charging screen appeared.
I tried to boot the phone after that and indeed i saw the galaxy note logo appearing and that's all i saw. The phone wouldn't carry on to the samsung logo. So it just froze again there. I restarted ofc and the phone booted normally and for 5 minutes it was okay until...
Until i tried sending an sms at which time the same thing happened.
Not to tire you guys further the same thing has been happening for the remainder of the day up until half an hour ago where the most recent crash took place.
The issue happened mostly during a cpu speed shift. I know this because it happened as i was waking the phone a couple of times and while i generally used it for something active(yes like opening notes)
I am worried sick and i have been browsing my guarantee papers thinking of returning the phone for another one.
Has anyone else got the same issues? The samsung quick start guide says that if you get fatal errors and such you should reset the phone. Well i did several times and at one point i had a reboot where the screen went all bad with random color rows like a major screen error.
Would you recomend i give it in or do you have any ideas about what might have caused those issues?
Thank you for your time.
After tons of crashes, a glitched screen that scared the beejeezus out of me and a hard crash that made my device emit a high pitch sound similar to a bomb countdown I think i am getting close to what is making my Note crash that hard.
I guess i am one of the few people that actually uses the Note as a... Notepad!
I write many notes on it, mostly capturing good ideas that come spontaneously and generally when i want to capture a thought and trap it in my phone for later utilization. Problem is the Note can't handle it(At least that's what i think it is).
I have stored in my S-Memo application approximately 30 notes, most of them written in the old fashioned keyboard way and full of text, whereas a few others written in the Galaxy Note way with the S-Pen.
Now whenever i open the S-Memo app my phone crashes without even opening the app. It freezes on the black screen interval between my tapping the S-Memo icon and actually opening it. Now that's not the only occasion my Note crashes but it's the surest and plus it's where the problem started in the first place.
[Update] I just tried deleting all the notes and the phone got stuck while deleting. But finally they have been deleted.
I will keep the thread updated if i run into other problems. I am trying to narrow down the problem. If it gets stuck again then it's probably not the notes.
After deleting the S memo notes my phone is back to normal.
No crashes, no freezes, no nothing.
I would like to hear other people's feedback on the matter. Does your phone behave the same after writing 30+ heavily written notes on S-Memo?
If yes then Samsung sure picked the wrong name for it's phone. It does everything BUT notekeeping!
Anyway. My 5 cents guys. Peace, out!
Sorry if this is not your case (and I am probably writing these rather late), but I am having a similar issue with my notes. While trying to open a note from inside S Memo app, I am receiving a crash report ("The application S Memo (process com.sec.android.widgetapp.diotek.smemo) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. The application S Memo (process com.sec.android.widgetapp.diotek.smemo) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.").
This crash is not happening to all my notes. So I tried to see how are the notes that is crashing different from the other notes that is not crashing. In my case is the note date (written at the bottom of each note). The notes that when I am trying to open the application crashes have a creation date 01.01.1970 while the others are having the correct date.
This change in the creation date probably happened yesterday when I updated my phone to XXKL7.
PS. The notes are only crashing within the S Memo app. They are not crashing for example if I try to open them as a Widget that I have exported in the home screen.
I can't find a way to change the date, so I will try to export the notes and delete them.
I will keep you posted.

Thank you for the info on this issue. I love my Note, but sometimes I get the feeling that Samsung has been sending the Galaxy Note out to the marked without the proper testing beforehand. It looks as if your Note has a problem with handling to many notes at the same time, and since the note-handling is one of the phones major features, I really hope this is something Samsung fixes before they sending out the upcoming ICS-update.

Actually thank you for reminding me of this issue. I forgot to update this topic.
The thing is that the issue happened again a few days after i erased those memos. I called the store that sold me the device and asked to give it back to them. They said that one way or the other they will have to hand it over to samsung for them to see.
They advised i wait after the holidays to really get some decent feedback.
Thing is that ever since i called the store my note has been it's normal self again.
I suspect though that under heavy use it will do the same again, but i cannot determine what triggers those freezes.
I have got two years of waranty. After the first week where the store just replaces your device no questions asked i now have to abide by the standard procedure, so i keep a close eye on my note for any glitches, malfunctions and freezes.
Truth is that some part of me wants to forget this ever happened and not pursue the way to finding out what the problem is in fear that samsung will find some loophole out of their posteriors and not replace my device.
I will not push it but if the phone breaks down again i will have to send it to them.
Now if there is any of you who knows of any diagnostic tools for the Note i would greatly appreciate it.
btw i believe the same thing about samsung, their devices are poorly tested but their devices policy are open source in comparison to Apple and i like that. Sometimes i think that Apple is there just to piss off people and give it's competitors the edge with their overprotecting policy.

I have no clue what to make of your issue. I myself try to understand what is happening but you are the second person to report an issue with the S-Memo application.
At least your phone did not freeze and crash. That should be consoling.
My problem happened when i created a folder within the S-memo and stored some notes inside. It could be the folder or it could be the files but after the first crash and reboot the thumbnail of one of the notes had trouble showing up and instead was replaced by a blank thumbnail, as if the text inside had been erased(but when you browsed the note you found out that it wasn't).
I don't know if that helps but that all i can think of.
In my case it seems that the problem is more generic, but i have no clue where it originated.
As i said above if it happens again i will send it back to samsung. If it keeps happening to you i suggest you do the same. Don't let them sell you a 600-700euro device without making sure it works perfectly. Remember the making of the device cost wisely is ridiculously lower. It might even amount to something in the vicinity of 50 euros for the materials and the assembly altogether.
To sit back and accept a faulty device is making their pockets rich selling snake oil to the people.
Well, I tried to enter the folder that the S Memo keeps the notes but couldn't fix anything. Finally I sync them to my evernote account and did a factory reset.
I'll come back if I find anything useful. I think too, that Samsung doesn't thorough exam the updates.
Btw, I am not the second person to report such a problem but the forth. It's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362249 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347157 that I just found out.
I'd like more info on this problem also. I haven't had the S Memo app crash but I have noticed some odd behavior. Luckily I haven't written any important notes, just been fooling around to see how the app works. It seems like some notes mysteriously disappear and maybe reappear later or just are deleted and I've had notes duplicate themselves. I just thought it was something I was doing wrong since I wasn't really doing anything usefull with the app.
Now that I'm aware of the quirks, I'll pay closer attention to what I'm doing.
For anybody who was modifying/saving/deleting notes, were you doing it from the SD Card /Application/SMemo/cache and /Application/SMemo/switcher? Just curious... It seems like their file naming scheme is a lot to be desired with variations of the same memo being named strokeXX.png, thumbXX.png, prevXX.png, and a syncXX.png if you did a sync. The XX is incremented for every note created, but I've noticed when deleting an earlier note then creating a new one later, that numbering system can get out of allignment and weird things happen.
That's all my observations for now but I certainly won't be putting any really important information in a note.
MP
I have had the same crash problem with some new notes. They didn't have the faulty date that I saw after the update to KL7.
Fortunately, I am able to synch them and same the information they contain.
I'll check the files that you say and maybe we could figure out why is it happening.

[Q] S Planner - no direct link with Maps?

I am a fresh owner of a Note and am overal extremely happy with the device after my first week of use.
Many thanks also for this great forum, which has helped me discover many tips and tricks that would have taken me a very long time to discover myself!
I have however stumbled upon a very annoying missing feature in the built-in calendar, the S Planner, that apparently has not been discussed by others yet.
An extremely handy option which I used all the time in the standard Android calendar of my now retired Motorola Milestone, was the standard link between the location of events and Google Maps.
Once a calendar item including correct address was entered in my Google calendar, either trough a browser, my phone or even synced Outlook account at work, I only needed my phone to make sure I could easily get there.
In the standard Android calendar you can just click on the location of any event and Google Maps is automatically fired up with this location as the destination.
In the S Planner this link between the location of events and Maps is apparently missing. Which for me is a huge miss. Of course you can start editing the calender entry, copy the address and paste it in Google Maps.
But the big advantage of smartphones, at least for me, is the seamless integration of its many different capabilities.
This is in fact such a huge miss that I really would prefer to use the standard calendar. Which unfortunately can not simply be installed from the Android Market.
I really hope others in this forum have already stumbled upon this problem and found a solution. Maybe I am just missing something, even though I have searched quite a bit already.
And I really hope Samsung solves/improves this very quickly and/or even better, gives us at least the choice for the standard Google calendar. After all choice is Android's greatest strength.
Solved ... by SAMSUNG
Just a quick reply to my own post in case someone else would be confronted with the same problem and stumble upon this thread.
After receiving two consecutive OTA updates which brought my phone from KK5 to KL7 and then immediately afterwards to LA4, it appears the issue has been solved and Samsung incorporated a link between the location of events in the S-Planner and Google Maps.
... modifying my phone from a nice piece of equipment into the perfect tool
Map integration - question
Hi, I have the same problem that you did - how did you get your phone to update? I regularly check for updates with Kies and it refuses to upgrade to the firmware version that you mentioned. Any advice you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Samsung Notes sync to a Windows App?

Desired outcome: I want to be able to sit in meetings, taking notes on my phone, but then access them on my PC by whatever means possible.
Is there a way to sync the notes taken on my device with Samsung Notes with any windows app?
I have tried the S Note app in the windows app store. Doesn't work. And sucks big time even if it did.
OneNote maybe? Evernote? Or maybe Samsung has a surprise and it syncs with its own Samsung Notes windows app (if it existed).
S Note could sync to Evernote. I really miss that.
OneNote (the Android app) syncs fine (to OneNote, the desktop app), but I don't see a way to go straight to creating a new note in it from the S Pen shortcut menu. You can create a badge that does it; it floats on your display (similar to the S Pen floating icon), but it doesn't seem to integrate into the S Pen workflow.

S Note (NOT Samsung Note) still does it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.android.snote&hl=en
So is there any way to get my current Samsung Notes over to SNote (or even Onenote)?
I can switch over but my old notes are still in Samsung Notes
I got to this old thread looking for something similar.
There is a windows 10 Samsung Notes APP.
What does not work for me is the freaking AUTOMATIC sync... i have to manually go into the options menu and hit sync both on the phone and on PC... kinda bad.
I can't install the app on my surface pro, says not compatible!
I primarily use Onenote on the desktop, but Samsung notes is a better app on the note 8.
If there are issues with finding a Windows app then try using Samsung DEX it turns your phone into a desktop.
That's like using a digger to crack a nut.
I think I'm just going to review my Workflow, treat the phone as more of a note pad and review my notes onto the desktop.

Me too.
Anyone knows a workaround to install Samsung Notes on a Surface Pro?
I wish to get "samsung notes" to work on my surface pro also
I have Samsung notes on my Note 8 and the Samsung Notes Windows 10 app on my Samsung Notebook 9 Pro. Works perfect and notes are synchronized back and forth.
Should work the same on Surface Pro.
Unfortunately, here's what I get on my HP desktop (Win 10 x64 latest build):
"This app is not compatible with this device."

Nope, Samsung Notes is not compatible with the Surface line for whatever reason.

I checked again Friday and it would install on my Surface Pro 4. The issue was it wouldn't sync with the SNote app on my Note 8.
I installed the SNote app on my Surface Pro 4 and also on my Note 8 and managed to get a first sync. It really is crap and I'm sticking with OneNote even though you can't use quick notes just by taking the pen out. The sync seems to take so long and sometimes there is a syn option in the Windows 10 menu and sometimes pressing the button asks if you want to deleted the account. I changed a note on my Surface and then opened the same note on my Note and no changes were made.

I think you're confusing 'S Note' and 'Samsung Notes'. They're two completely different apps.
Samsung Notes seems to be only compatible with S-Pen devices. So that's only Samsung devices then, I guess.
S Note is a different story and works on all PCs, but it's different from Samsung Notes and they don't share the same database, unfortunately.

Nope, look in the app store on either Android or Windows and you will find S Note that can install on any Android. Samsung Notes is what comes stock on all Samsung devices.

Sorry, I think you missed my main point. First, I don't know if Samsung Notes comes preinstalled on all Samsung devices. But Samsung Notes doesn't install on devices without S-Pen, which includes Microsoft's Surface Books. S Note is the old app, that is slowly being replaced by Samsung Notes. S Note does install on probably all devices, and doesn't require the S-Pen.
And this is the unfortunate part: you can't share data from Samsung Notes to PC, if you don't have a PC that is able to run Samsung Notes. Furthermore, Samsung Notes doesn't sync to Evernote as well. And that is annoying, because Samsung Notes is (among other things) the default app for "Screen Off Memo" and in general will become the default app for everything.
So: people would prefer to continue using S Note, but they're pushed towards Samsung Notes, which doesn't meet their needs.

How would I go about opening .SNM files (Samsung Notes)?

Hi XDA!
I am a recent convert to Android from many years of iPhone usage. I made the plunge by investing in what like among the best if not the best Android phone available, the Note 8. So far I am a very happy camper!
That is until today. This is my fault and not the phones fault however. I forgot the password to the phone which I had written down IN THE PHONE ITSELF (facepalm). I actually bought a notebook to write the password down in last night for this very reason. Lovely coincident happened: My phone discharged during the night so now I need the password to get in. To my question of the day then:
How would i go about opening an .SNM file on a PC?
I have such a file stored in a backup of the phone: C:\Users\**\Documents\samsung\SmartSwitch\backup\SM-N950F\SM-N950F_\SM-N950F_20171104133032\SamsungNotes\SamsungNote.snm.
I am assuming this file contains the notes. Stupidly the passwords were jotted down with the (wonderful) S-Pen so I cannot simply go through it with a hex editor/text editor and look for my files. I need a proper extraction tool/process of some kind to get the images/notes out.
All i have found on the internet refers to opening the (older?) .SNB files which apparently are simply .zip-archives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated indeed!
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Andreas
Hi again!
Just wanted to share an update incase anyone else is googling after getting themselves into a similar situation or for any other reason need to open their samsung notes files.
What I ended up doing was restoring my backup using Smart Switch to another device I have access to. An S7 to be more precise. One problem that bogged me down however was that the Samsung Notes app on the S7 did not properly load or even recognize the notes it received from the backup, the notes originally made on the note 8. It turns out this was because the note 8 for some reason receives a newer version of samsung notes (2.XX instead of 1.4).
After fiddling around with the backup settings in the .xml files i managed to get it working by sideloading the newer version of Samsung Notes downloaded as an APK and installing that. Then the S7 would load the notes and I could access the info I needed
Silly me for getting into the issue but I am happy I managed to fix it!

Can not pin action memos to home screen any more

Experts,
I've been using an old version (5.2.04.25) of s-notes (not Samsung notes) for the well known issue that many people have of preferring it over Samsung notes.
One of main reason to use s-notes is the ability to pin any number of action memos to the home screen very easily and quickly . which was great, till now !
Some how it stopped working , even though the usual message "Action memo pinned to home screen and saved in S Notes" will flash , but it actually just saved in S-notes without pinning !
I wish I can track the changes in my device that triggered this, but I can't .
Any ideas?
Or any practical alternatives
regards,
Alternative: use Samsung Notes, as you can pin these notes to home screen as well!

But you can not pin them directly after you double tap with the s-pen , you will have to save them first and then open Samsung notes and only then you will be able to pin them......so not really practical
Works for me, as I do not pin many notes per day to my homescreen. If you do, I agree it is not practical...

I have exactly the same story - can't pin memos any more to my home screen of my Note8. It happened last month after i install Android software update provided by Samsung. Most likely the issue with memos is related to the increase of the security of Android OS. Unfortunately Android security updates can't be reverted. I think no one will be able to fix this ((
I'm having the same problem, so if someone has an answer, I'd be interested in knowing what it is.
Anyone found a solution?
