I just recently upgraded the rom on my phone to MM Chroma (from LP Chroma), After doing so, I'm no longer getting notifications from text messages. I use Textra for my app. I did install Messenger and set it to default, which seems to work. I've never had this problem before so I don't know exactly where the fault lies. I've checked to make sure I have a notification tone set in both system settings and Textra Settings and my volume is up. Does anyone have ideas of what else I should be looking at?
I did also start using Greenify, Amplify, and Smart Network after installing MM. I don't think I have anything picked in these that would be preventing sounds (Textra is not set to hibernate in Greenify).

I would remove greenify and see if that helps. To be honest it is useless in MM now with so many things being tied together. I have no issues with textra at all.

I removed Greenify and Amplify which didn't do it (I assume removing them is sufficient, without needing to clear the settings first). I did also update to the latest Textra that came out today. Still no sound or vibration on messages.

No you might have to remove the settings. Also I would remove all 3rd party sms apps as they could interfere with it As Textra doesnt use the default sms data base that all the other sms apps use. Have others installed has been known to cause issues like MMS not sending and notification issues as they intercept the intent before textra can get to it.

Wait you removed the stock messaging app?
Is textra set as your default sms app in the settings?
On MM, I've used Textra from the start. Messenger wasn't included in my GApps (or Rom, not sure where it is usually included). I installed it today to see if it got sounds -it did- and then removed it. I did just install it again (with Textra still set as default) to see if Textra would work. Didn't make any difference.

It should be in the rom by default.

Might not be a bad idea to make a backup and try another rom. I have never used that rom myself but in all the roms I have used I have never had an issue with textra....Well that is notification based.

I was wondering if on a hero build you could remove the MMS.apk and just install something like Chompsms or Handcent, would you still be able to get messages without the original messaging app sitting in the background?

Yea you can do that just disable the notification on the original messaging app.
?

What do you mean? I'm talking about completely deleting the mms.apk from /data/app_s and just replacing with chomp, would that work?

What I was saying was you can just open up your original messaging app and go to settings and turn off your notification and just what other messaging app you want to use. That way when you get a new message it would just notify chompsms/handcent and not the original one. Then make chompsms/handcent your default. I would do it that way so you still got the original on there but use whichever one you want. You never know if you'll run into a problem and need the original one for a back up. I hope that makes sense, I know I was rambling.

I already do that on other hero builds and it works okay, but when I get a new text I open up cleanoid (or whatever other taskkiller I feel like using) it always shows the original messaging app as a running process and I would like to completely eliminate that so I can reduce as much memory usage as possible and receive all my messages
Ok gotcha. Well I don't have a definite answer and wouldn't want to give you a wrong one, but I would assume you could just remove. Don't know if it would give you any problems down the road. The worst thing that would happen would be to either push the mms.apk back or just reflash a rom.
From what I've been told hope this helps. If you delete the mms.apk your new one will work fine but you will loose the ability to send mms as your other messaging programs still use parts of the original to function properly. You could always try freezing the original mms program with titanium back up that way out of sight out of mind but if you should ever need it again you can just defrost it.
Can someone post the APK for Handcent 3.0 please? Thanks in advance.
I tried googling it, but I figured no one would have it up yet, since it was updated yesterday. Thanks again!
Pretty sure were not aloud to post or send .apks...
and I just updated Handcent, it's whatever to me.
I think you're not allowed to post unless it's free. I don't have google add-ons because I don't have a data plan. Thanks anyways :]

Hahaha no I am an end user of Handcent and just updated it from the market, it doesn't stand out much to me.
The new editing tools seem copied from Chomp anyway.
enjoy.........
Once loaded... how can I disable the resident SMS from ALSO running at the same time?
Greetings.
As my title indicated, once I have installed Handcent, or even ChompSMS... how do I disable the original resident SMS program from ALSO running? When I ran it before on my Motorola Droid - 2.1.1 - I would not only get the SMS text reader that came with the device, but also the downloaded program app. Having both pop-up in the task bar was more of a distraction than a battery drain. What command, if any, is available to keep the resident one OFF, rather than have it turn on, too?

disable notifications? that sounds pretty logical.
When running Handcent or ChompSMS - how do we...?!
Greetings!
I was wondering - when running either Handcent or ChompSMS... how do we DEselect or prevent the resident messaging app from also running - so we won't be getting TWO apps offering repeated messages...??
Android commander/Droid explorer or terminal to remove the apks. Keep a backup!
I cannot remember where I read this, but someone removed the original SMS/MMS app from autostart, and he did not receive messanges any more.
So turn off the notifications from the original SMS client is a good idea, removing or stopping it is not reccomendet.
Hello,
My dad bought the p9 not so long ago in China, EVA-AL10C00B386, android 7.0, EMUI 5.0, he stopped using it shortly after because if whatsapp was no open in the background, he would not receive any notifications.
My phone died yesterday so I'm trying to use his p9 now, not only whatsapp doesn't receive notifications when offline, I noticed that you can't use whatsapp on your pc either ( since it requires your phone to be connected when used), so I guess whatsapp (also telegram, but I guess it's a general problem) just doesn't run in the background when the app is not active.
I've been searching online for a fix, but I only found irrelevant solutions.
Is there any way to fix it? and if not, will installing a different rom fix the issue? if so, is there any specific rom I should get?
EDIT: I enabled developer options, and in the Running Services, whatsapp and the rest aren't running, so why is the phone blocking these services?
Thanks
try to use protected-apps to receive notification
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/152649/what-is-protected-apps-in-huawei-phones
I can not find the protected-apps options, I looked every where, and under Battery, it doesn't exist, the closest option I found was settings -> battery -> close apps after screen lock.
And I already disabled it for everything.
For me worked to add a widget on my homescreen of the app you want to run in the background. With the widget the phone is forced to run the app in the background. With Whatsapp for example you can add the widget with all of the chats.

That's good to hear that it worked ?. You could also make Whatsapp to a system app. I don't know why but that works also but you need root for this.
all the battery optimization settings for both apps are the same, what can i do?
stupid EMUI

tried every setting EMUI and Android have to offer, nothing, i need a hack
Tried this?
Go to settings, battery and go to "Close apps after screen lock".
Whatsapp must be off so the switch must be greyed out.

not always, sometimes i open whatsapp and the messages rush in
For me worked on my EVA-AL10 that you create a widget from whatsapp (the first one with the unread messages) and put it on your homescreen. Now WhatsApp is forced to run in Background and you receive the push notifications.

What other apps do you have ? I think it works with every app that has widgets. I suggest that you make a page with all the widget for the apps.
For me the problem sovled after i debranded my EVA-AL10 to L-09 and flashed BluWei. So I think the problem only existed with the Chinese Rom.
Other methods:
Try Settings>Apps>Settings>Special Access>Ignore Battery Optimization. On the dropdown select all apps and search Whatsapp and click on it. Then select allow. Now it should run in the background.
The last thing that i remember doing is turning Whatsapp (or any other app) in a system app. You need root and i used the app "/system/app mover":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover
Just click on the app you want to convert and press ok. Then reboot your phone. The only problem i had was that the /system partition wasn't very big so i could only convert like one or two apps (this changes with different phone/system versions)
If this doesn't work I would recommend installing an other rom like Magic Rainbow, Moonlight, Bluwei (all emui based) if its a big problem for you
Is anyone else getting extremely delayed notifications on their Asus ROG Phone 2? I have noticed that notifications are taking about 10-15 minutes to finally pop up on the phone. If I go in to the apps, such as Google Voice, 2FA apps, PushBullet, Visual Voicemail, Outlook, GMail, etc... I see the information in the app, but the notifications still take a long time to actually pop up in the notification tray.
I had that happen in the beginning then I disabled all app manager stuff other than stock android battery optimization. So I disabled all the asus auto disable or mobile manager stuff. Just dig in the settings and fiddle around with it. I think the phone is still new so no one has a clear answer yet.

I'm having an issue where I don't get notifications from any apps unless they are big like Facebook/Messenger and What's App... Anyone now how to resolve this?
I've allowed the apps to auto-start, they are not being optimised by the battery, all notifications are active but still not getting anything..?
