Choetech 10W Wireless 3 Coil Charger Review - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Accessories

I will keep the original post updated in case I run into any issues or any other things I like about this product.
Packaging
The wireless charger came in a very nice slip cover box that was very well put together to protect the things that it came with. Included in the package was the charger itself, a 3ft. USB cable, a nice set of thorough directions. The only thing I did not like is that it does not come with it's own charging block because the fast charging block that comes with Samsung devices does not work for some reason. It does have to be a 18W charging block otherwise the pad will not charge your device in fast mode
The Charging Pad
The pad is very simple in design and is a very minimal footprint anywhere that you may put it. It only has on port on it, the power input. It would be nice if it had another USB power out on it, but in doing so would make the charging pad bigger in size. It does feature 4 rubber feet on the bottom of the pad that are supposed to help to keep it from slipping around and I found them to do their ob well on all but the smoothest of surfaces. The pad also includes a raised rubber design on the top to keep your phone from sliding off and I found that these actually did a very well at their job, with or without a case. Other than that it has a LED light on one corner that is very bright and easy to see at any time of the day, unless you use a larger phone such as me and then the phone covers the LED.

Wireless Charging
The charging pad actually does a very good job at what it does. For such a small device I was actually getting very close to what a charging cable will apply to the phone with the stock charging block. I used two different apps, Ampre and Galaxy Charging Current to read the charge rate of my Samsung Galaxy s7 Edge. I will update this post later with actual charge times on my phone as it has been difficult to drain this battery and be able to keep and eye on it charging in one sitting.
Overall I really like the charging pad and can see myself using it for quite awhile. It does it a good job at what it was designed to do, but my only complaint is that it does not come with a charging block. This means that you have to use a fast charging one that came with your phone, unless it is a Samsung block, then you have to buy another one.

Thanks for the review.

You need to use a 18W QC 2.0/3.0 wall charger NOT the stock Samsung one because it's only 15.03W. The Samsung one will not allow the charger to provide the full 10W or function properly at all in most cases based on my testing.

Would this charger work, do you think?

I have two of the single coil models and they work great. Dimmer led, fast charge, and got them when they dropped to 12.99 each. Win!

I know Incipio made/releasing soon a 15W wireless charger. My main concern would be the large amount of heat generated by such a powerful wireless charger. I assume they would incorporate a fan of sort like Samsung did on their fasyout (~7.5W) fast charger. The fan seems to allow for a more stable charging rate than you would normally get without one as I noticed while testing each one.

Not really sure. Mine doesn't get hot at all on my choe tech 10w

Mine doesn't get any warmer than it does with the fast wired charger. I think a 15W wireless charger would generate enough heat for you to notice easily, but we will have to see.

Just like to put my cohetech fast wireless charger in this thread.
This is the single coil plate, but doesn't suffer from placement as it is a large coil inside. So anywhere I put my note 5 on charges every time.
I used to have the round 3 coil charger but prefer this one as its a low profile and your phone covers up the LED whilst it's charging, and heck square is cool
Packaging is pretty my defacto with these products, minimal, compact and no wastage but it is packed really strong and no fear of it arriving broken up or damaged.
These are a little cheaper too than the 3 coil fast charger so it's a pretty good alternative to save a few pounds on something that will perform just as good.

I have the 3 coil one, but see it now says not compatible with the s7. Other ones say not to use the s7 adaptive charger but this now just seems to say not compatible at all. When on the pad there is a quiet clicking noise that worries me but the phone says it's fast charging and it appears to be doing so. However I have no experience of wireless charging and no desire to risk my nice new phone. Would be grateful for others experiences?

2 amp car charger?

So, I know the Note 2 uses a 2 amp charger. Are there any good car chargers that can output in 2 amps? I currently am using a Motorola one, and I think it's just 1 amp. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
I found a 2A car charger on the shelf at Wal-Mart for $8. Works fine for me.

The charger I bought for my Captivate charges it, I'll have to look at it to see what amperage it is.
I have this charger from my previous iPhone and it works like a charm! It is 2.1amp but I don't think it hurts the phone since it has smart technology to direct the power as needed!

The motorola one you have is still a beast when it comes to recharging. I have a few of them, one in each car and an additional one for business trips. While running gps, streaming music, and the screen on, my battery still recharges. I have other 2.1 mAh chargers, but always come back to the motorola one. Especially since they are around $5 on amazon.

Hope it wasn't the one I found. It SAYS 2A on the box but it has 2 USB ports and thus feeds 1A PER PORT.
The Samsung OEM car charger for either the tablets or the Notes is a 2A unit.

That's the exact one I use as well. To give you an example, the Note 2 just can't be charged via standard USB port. 450mAh is not enough. I will see if I can do some testing to show you the differences visually this week.
Driving 45 min to pick up the last 64gb microSD card for sale in TN at radio shack (for $39) I had bluetooth on, sharing my data connection with my wifes tablet via foxfi, and using gps, the motorola still can charge the battery while all that was running. At my office, we would call that FM, because I can't really explain how it works just as good as my $15 2.1mAh charger.
What app are you guys using to measure charging rate?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I use a 3A charger in my car, but it's all wired in. Got myself one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-DC-Con...plies_ET&var=560164310799&hash=item3ccbaa5de8 , a 3 way switch, 2 'add-a-fuse' things and wired it all up behind the dashboard with just my Micro USB cable poking out in the drivers side of the dashboard, which plugged into my old car cradle when I had the HTC Sensation. The switch is mounted in one of the blanking plates down by my right knee (right hand drive) and lets me choose between off, on and on-with-ignition for the charger. At the moment I have to plug it into the bottom of the Note 2 myself but I'm planning next to de the wireless charging mod, and integrate the charger into the cradle I have, with NFC also in there to activate car mode when I put the phone in the cradle for (IMO) the perfect solution with no wires trailed all over the car, and my lighter socket free for other things
It was all pretty cheap as well, and an easy mod to do - even though the cradle is on the opposite side of the car to the fuse box and I had to pull out the whole radio and centre console to route the wires... all hidden away now though.
I'll be doing the same on my next car as well.
I was looking at *low profile* dual USB ported chargers but it appears from my lack of knowledge that these are all wired for iPad charging and without a specific charging cable they will only supply max 1A to the Note 2. Can someone with more technical knowledge of the vagaries of USB power please clarify in simple terms?
I would have thought the iPad would take a higher current than 1A

Spare battery charger

I would really like some help, because I am having problems finding what I need, if it even exists. I have a couple 3100 mAH batteries for my Note2. The set came with a charger, but the output says 350mA. It is taking about 20 hours to charge the spare. Is there a spare battery charger out there that will charge at the same rate as the actual charger that came with the device? One that would charge my spares in about 3 hours. Thanks in advance.

None that I know of. Which charger did you purchase?
I purchased the Samsung extra battery charger and it takes about 6 hours to charge a Samsung 3100mah battery from 10%. I have 3 official batteries total, so the recharge rate is fine. I carry my phone and a extra battery, but tbh, I haven't actually needed the spare yet. Perhaps when classes are back in session.

I bought the Anker two pack that included the charger. The batteries are really great. As good as the oem, that I can tell. But the charger is so slow. I want to find one that charges with closer to 2A, instead of the 350mA that I received with the batteries.

After years of dealing with cheap Chinese fake batteries that last 1/2 as long as advertised I went ahead and sprung for the Samsung branded battery and charger. With my 20% discount wasn't that painful but the battery is reliable and charges very quickly.
One thing to keep in mind when buying a cheap knockoff batteries - have your u ever seen a battery fire? You do NOT want that happening in your pocket.

No it says that if you put in 5v at 2 amp you get 4.2v at 1.7 amp output, and if you put in 5v at 500ma you get 4.2v at 450ma output. Mine charges from dead in about 2h15min using the 2 amp wall usb that came with the phone. Great charger and I use it from a anker 10, 000ma battery pack on the go.

I just got this charger and it looks like it will get the job done. It won't be 3 hrs, but 4 to 6 hrs it will be fully charged. It is supposed to provide 1a charging and it seems about right or at least much better than my previous chargers. I plan to buy another so I can charge 2 batteries at once. The only reason I bought it is because I had a 50% off coupon and it was the same price as just the battery alone. I'm okay with the slow charger for the spare battery as long as I can charge the one in the phone quickly.
I believe that any 2A adapter designed for Note 2, Note 10.1 or galaxy tab can work well with the official desktop dock & charger. Though not exactly the same speed as using the phone directly, it seems to be practically good enough to me -- 4.35V 1.7A

the reason i bought this is i didnt want to have my phone ever tied down. i can leave the house or work any time i want not having to pull off from an early charge.
and some more food for thought i think with the .7amp charger mine probably charges in 4 or 5 hrs nothing to bad. if you kill your phone from 100% down to dead in less than that time thats pretty ridiculous.
i love the samsung charger, you cant beat a good deep charge on your battery every time it charges.

it's about both, you need both the receiver and transmitter for wireless charging.
I investigated wireless charging for a time, but it appears nearly all wireless chargers charge at a particularly slower rate (0.5A). With such a big battery on the Note 2, this leads to pretty crazy charge times. Having said that, there are 'some' chargers which are 1A, like so:

I just bought a 3rd party receiver sticker and charging pad. The receiver sticker is placed beneath the back cover. It works with Samsung charger comes with the phone. When I place my Note 2 on the pad, there is a pop up message saying "Wireless charging - You have placed the device within range. Now charging wirelessly...". I am testing how long it will take to have a complete charge. The initial feeling is that the charging is slower as compared with wired charging with Samsung charger.

sanwa WLC-STN11W (soon)
1 Unbranded (Mobile wireless qi charger with 5000mAh battery).
I got a pretty good combo, so far. Its a generic black PowerQi + slim receiver (black) bulging is really minimal. Cant even tell its there. got both from ebay. Charging time is comparable to stock charger or even faster. Been trying different scenarios (position of the phone on the charger) and so far its been working great even with a spigen case on it. I will report back with update maybe with pics as well.

I'm curious about you mentioning about the speed is comparable to stock charger, as the stock charges at 2000mAh whiles the qi only has a max of 466mAh.

I've sent them a message asking if the magnet affects the compass and the pen on the note 2

Synergy Wireless Charger
Hi Bryan792 and jyan_osu,
Thanks for mentioning Synergy. I'd be more than happy to answer any additional questions anyone has in this forum. Synergy might disrupt the earth's magnetic field when using the Compass, but any receiver module with a magnet could have a similar impact on the earth's magnetic field. If you use the compass regularly, wireless charging may not be for you. Please note that we have not experienced any issues with the Note 2 pen.
For more information about Synergy, please go to Kickstarter.com and search "Synergy".
Thanks again.

That's a difficult one, at the moment I would say the evutec kevlar case in black. I am a sucker for different things. I also love the cover up wood back case's because they are all individual and most people won't have them. I enjoy cases that most people won't have. What about you?

I'm from the U.S. and just picked this up at my local Verizon store a few days ago. I paid about US$70 for it, so roughly the same as your cost (according to Google's currency conversion, at least).
I was interested to learn that the U.K. model does not come with a power brick or cable. My unit came in a cardboard box which also contained a standard Samsung charging adaptor and cable, which were identical in every way to the ones that came in the box with my S7 Edge.
I envy you guys your superior Exynos-based models which can be unlocked and rooted, but in this case it sounds like the U.S. consumers are getting a better deal (although at these prices, it still isn't a bargain as far as I'm concerned).
I agree with your conclusion that it is a very nice charger for this flagship phone, if you're cool with the cost. I plan to keep mine.

Cheers for the review. I was really tempted to get one of them despite the high price but I can't justify spending £50 if it doesn't come with a power plug & charging cable in the UK. Almost seems like Samsung are going down the less is more route that Apple likes.

Get last year's version as performance is the same the only difference is no stand plus it's on Amazon for £15

Your so lucky to get the charger with it. Can you post a picture of the packaging it came in? The packaging in the UK is so cheap like something you would buy in a dollar store

I've got a couple of custom leather flipcover-style cases coming from Piel Frama that I'll post pics of when they arrive early next week.
I bought some cases from them several years ago for an iPhone 4 and thought they were excellent.
Here's their english language website:

Cheers for the tip. I thought the previous version didn't have the correct fast charge internals to work with the S7 edge.

From what i've understand the wireless fast charge time is the same of the standard 5V/2A charge right?
Someone understood if this wireless fast charge is a 9V/1.67A that ruins the battery or the charger uses this 9V/1.67 only due to the power lost that we have with the wireless chargers?
Infact we have that with 5V/2A wall adaptor we have only a 5V/1A wireless charge ( so basically we lost 5W in heat ) with all the previous wireless chargers.
Here is the same? we have a 9V/1.67A charge that becomes a 5V/2A wirelessly? or is still a 9V and less ampere?
I'd be willing to pay the stupidly high prices for the samsung fast wireless chargers ($90/$130 for flat or stand versions), but at that price i'm not about to pay an extra $50 for a wall plug as well. $200 for a wireless charger? Piss off samsung.
I'll stick with my nokia $30 one which comes with a wall plug as well. (Sure it's not fast, but if i need to top up quickly i'll use the cable)
Currently on sale for $46.34 on Amazon

It does charge about as fast as a standard 5V/2A cable which is technically QC 1.0 if you want to give it a name. Wireless charging isn't very efficient as you know, but the input is only 15.03W at most, but it doesn't always take in the full 15W to utilize the fast charging. I've seen it go as low as 12W while still charging fast during different tests. This could be due to heat, case thickness etc. that would add in extra resistance while charging.
Thanks for the answer

I bought mine from mobile fun, I have used them many times and I know they don't sell fakes, they are more expensive than Amazon and eBay but it gives me peace of mind.

Was just wondering as there were quite a few bad reviews on Amazon saying they got fake versions & the videos showed packaging very much like your. I did notice in the comments section for that charger on MobileFun they originally had the price too high & then lowered it. It still £10 dearer than Amazon. Still waiting on my black candyshell grip case from them.

Wireless charger type?

Hello all.
I've never messed with wireless charging since it's relatively new. I pre-ordered my Note 7 yesterday and have decided it's time. What kind of charger do I need? I checked out the Samsung site and it doesn't explain much. Any recommendations on cheap quick chargers?
Thanks!

I've tried plenty of different wireless charging pads and stands for the S6 edge and S7 edge. Most of them either don't charge unless you take the case off, some of them stop at 100% and doesn't keep it charged at 100%, some you have to place just right or it will keep pausing and charging over and over, then you have some that charge extremely slow.
I would advise just to get the Samsung Pad or Samsung Stand wireless charger. So far it's been the best at charging wireless for Samsung phones vs 3rd party chargers. I myself use a Samsung Pad for my room, which is not the fast charging version. Charges at a good speed, even with a thick or slim case on it. Worry Free. You should be able to find on Amazon for under $30.

Do you think it'll charge through a case with a flygrip? I figure I'll have to pull the case off but I was just hoping I could, lol.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
There's a high possibility that it won't charge with the flygrip, since it will elevate the phone from the charger. But until you get it, you won't know for sure.

I've gotten it to work with an Otterbox defender case with the clip on the back. So most likely, yes. But I can't confirm with a flygrip.

no need to overthink this any samsung charger or simply check amazon reviews to see whats good for others. I m using a choetech that I got on amazon which worked great with my Note 5 but was a little picky with my S7. But it was a fast charger I only paid $20 for but I was truly happy with it.
Like I said in the beginning dont over think it either get a good cheaper fast charger or just get samsung versions. fyi - I got the free samsung wirless chargers with my note 5 free gifts and they are terrible too me
What I found is that Galaxy Note 7 supports fast wireless charging like S7/edge. I tested with Tronsmart Chocolate fast wireless charger, maximum 10W output power (9V/1.2A). And it works well with other brands Quick Charge 2.0/3.0 power adapter, not only Samsung AFC adapter.

Did you ever test a wireless charger with a Flygrip? I use one on my Note (no case), and I'd like to get a Stand version - so in addition to the 1/4" thickness of the flygrip, I also need to see if the bottom of the stand has a wide enough lip to accommodate.
