camera Mod confusion - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
there are some camera mods for xperia z1.
I use camerazadas and I think its awesome,(on mxrom v 8)
there are some other mods but I don't think they are really working, just scum... if you are skilled I want to know which one isn't.
we have cyberian mod, but It's effect is not good enough. I'm even not sure that this one isn't an stolen work
there is a persian website with some camera mods.
the web site is xperian
first mod name is pexocam :
download link
the developer claimed that he fully deleted xperia color engine and he uses livecolor engine! and he added wide focus to z1!
second one is sonyplus mod!!! they say it has an special engine named sonyplus for image processing. developers are the same with cyberian.
and here is the result in iso:3200 and 8 mega pixel resolution
the comparison link
and he make money out of this mod!!
thank you for your time

Cyberian camera is a mix of other modders mods but no credit is given and they use false labeling for some functions in menu. Looking at files and comparing them the Pexocam one looks much like original 4k/Timeshift mod, original Z5 Camera Lib Mod and a modified Camera 2.0. Whatever the changes it is tied to the Camera 2.0. The comparision picture looks like auto WB vs incandescent WB setting. Smells like bad rice as Cyberian camera with wild claims of what it can do. Though some brave soul might try installing it.
Remember though that all these system files have wide system access. For example camera apk has access to sms system and much more.

Future new Camera app from google (Supporting RAW?)

Well, i found this information VERY interesting:
http://www.androidauthority.com/new-android-camera-api-317878/
Google is working on a new camera API that will bring new features and possibly improved image quality to Android devices, including the Nexus line.
Many reviewers have panned the camera experience on the Nexus 5 as inconsistent and mediocre, with some going as far as to call the product unfinished. Google acknowledged the problems and said that a software update could alleviate some of them. Indeed, code discovered in the publicly available Android source code suggests that a new Camera API is in the works that could improve image quality and give access to new features.
Android developer Josh Brown first spotted the code, and Ron Amadeo of Ars Technica broke the news. According to the dates on the commits in the code repository, the API was in the works for about 10 months, but Google didn’t finish it in time for the KitKat release, which shipped with the old API.
Here’s a summary of what may be coming to the Android camera experience once the new API is implemented:
Support for Camera RAW format – RAW is a format that preserves most of the information captured by the camera sensor, allowing for more in-depth editing, either on the device (e.g. with Snapseed) or on a PC with software like Photoshop. JPEG and other similar formats, in contrast, are compressed for smaller size, and a lot of the original info is lost in the process.
Face detection – the API will allow camera apps to detect the faces of people in the frame, and assign each face an ID for manipulation purposes. This is a feature that many Android manufacturers have implemented on their own, but the new API will make it available in stock Android.
Burst mode – another feature present on popular devices from Samsung, HTC, and others is burst mode – keeping the shutter button pressed will take a series of shots in quick succession. This feature will go very well with the new photo enhancement capabilities of Google Plus.
Support for removable cameras – possibly something similar to Sony’s QX10 and QX100 Wi-Fi cameras.
General “improved capabilities” and “fine grain control” that may (we hope) bring improvements to image quality.
It seems that the new Camera API was in an advanced stage of development when Google decided to cut it out of KitKat. A last moment change of plans could explain why the Nexus 5’s camera feels a bit unfinished. When the new API lands, it will be backwards compatible, but for now we can only guess when we will see the update.

AS fas as I know, to support RAW mode not only the app, but also the camera driver should support RAW mode... Do you think possible to have RAW in our Nexus? It would be awesome!
Yes RAW would be a fantastic feature, but I'll be happy just to see a focus enhancement and a better interface, more user friendly.
I don't care about raw on phone, but this seems to confirm that a software solution may be coming.

I guess we have to wait for the nexus 7 launch..... I highly doubt a completely revamped camera is coming out any time soon especially after the kit Kat launch.

I could be mistaken but I think Google finally separated the Gallery from the Camera apk in Kit-Kat. This might imply Google is planning on updating the camera app in the Play Store. I really hope they do something soon because the camera app is pretty terrible.
I'll start giving a rat's ass about RAW once they fix the shutter lag...
I agree with most of you. I just want shutter and focus lag out of the way, then we can talk save formats. :good:
i can see it now
"why are all my photos so full of noise when i shoot in raw?"
Bad, bad idea on a phone.

If you let the phone get an exposure and focus lock you will see the photo is taken instantly, there is no shutter lag.

True - but for the end user, the result is the same - miss the shot while the phone gets the exposure lock and focus lock, followed by instant shutter.
In bright daylight, it should not take that long to get exposure/focus lock/etc. Camera should be able to determine the subject, focus on it, lock exposure right after the user starts the camera app and points at the subject, and grab the picture as soon as the user clicks the shutter button.
Almost all cameras on other smartphones can do this, so no reason why N5 can't do this
Its beyond idiotic to be adding features to a camera app that sucks at the simple task of taking a photo. Adding raw support should come WAY after the camera app can focus quickly, correctly expose an image and has a usable simple interface. After that is mastered, then simple basic features should be added like burst mode and slo mo video. Only then should RAW support be even thought about. What good is RAW support when the camera can't correctly focus and expose images and the interface is wonky and annoying to use and the preview image is an interpolated mess?

You should try Normal mode or Burst to Capture better pictures and the latest stock version's camera is at its Best I guess except Low Light pictures which are a bit Grainy!
indeed , our camera is not that great compared to S4's , why is that ? are there any apps that can be used to greatly automatically enhance our camera experience ? or are there some special settings ? or just leave it on superior auto ? on normal mode I find the pictures worse
Try this,

Looking at the hardware side of the camera on the Z is good, but Sony still needs to work on the software for the camera, there should be more optimization.

Try other cameras. LG Camera is a great one and works on other than LG phones.
I'm fairly sure that the stock camera creates awful JPEG pictures with bad compression. I'm not sure if there are any 3rd party cameras that capture lossless .PNG stills?

LG Camera takes clear PNG photos even on low end phones.
I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before when Xperia Z was released early this year. It was petty bad compares to latest firmwares. Few people tried improving this with different camera apps and build prop editing etc. And we all came to the conclusion only Sony has the ability to fully improve the XZ camera. You may notice better picture quality with different camera apps due to iso profiles and other colour setting handled by specific third party camera apps. But the jpeg compression and other things still remains unchanged as they are depends on camera libs which is closed source and only Sony can improve them

what camera app do you use?

Hi everyone,
It's one week I own the z3c and I was asking to myself what camera app would better performs with the 20,7mpx sensor.
I quite like the default one but I also like to have the full controll of the settings like when I'm using my dslr.
I know tha the manual mode is pretty cool but I'm sure as well that outiside there in the google play store there is a good app wich perform better
Any of you tried these apps?
PS: sorry for mistakes, I'm still learnig english.
I am also looking for a similar app, with at-least white-balance and exposure settings. Please let me know if anyone found a better application
I like the idea of being able to adjust the white balance and exposure by sliding your finger up and down or sideways on the screen without having to go into the menu. If there's a camera app that does that, I'd be very interested.
I am getting great results frm Camera JB+. It takes the interface to a simplified AOSP-vanilla look. No more overcomplicated interface. Quality-wise I get overall better performing pictures as the manual mode in 20MP. Also there is support for 20MP HDR, even with flash.
I'm very well suprised by this simple app. Another plus, is that it will come with a AOSP-gallery, wich I do very much prefer to the stock gallery.
If you deactivate the stock camera, this app will pop-up when you press the dedicated camera-button.
Only downside I have experienced, is no 4K video (but who actually needs this) and lacking a resolution option 16:9 15MP.
SnapHDR is the best for me when using custom roms

Currently using snapcamera hdr, Nothing to complain!
Interestint topic.
I bought Camera ZOOM some time ago, though not used it still on the Z3C. The default app certainly lacks manual setting sof exposer/time. Also, where is the ISO setting?? Am I stupid or why can I not seem to find it?? HDR options are also not easily accesible, nor is white balance. So interesting to hear what people use sucessfully, trying the ones mentioned so far now.
I've got some impressive results with Pro Capture and Pro HDR apps. Both are paid, I got them in a discount or so, some time ago.
Especially the Pro Capture has some fine tweaks, that increase the usability overall. There is a demo(free) version AFAIK for anyone who wants to try it.
Bought ProHDR because I loved it on iPhone.
I find the google camera app really good, you can select 15mp, 20mp and also provides manual exposure control on the screen. The panorama and photosphere are great.
On my HTC one X i used Camera FV-5. Tbh, it was in my experience the best camera app around, though their maybe others too. It doesn't do none of the filtering rubbish, but purely easy to access manual controls. You can even save as lossless png's and then do your own processing in your chosen software.
Bracketed frames, HDR/timelapse, long exposure and lots more.
Due to some other technical reasons, I haven't tried it on my z3c, but I suggest you really look into it. Unfortunately they don't do a demo.
I'm a wedding photographer so this was ideal for me. I may investigate for something better (if there is), but I know I will be using this again, soon.

It looks a nice app!!! I'll give it a try a tell you about how the snaps come out
I use the stock camera app.
I tried FV-5 and Pro Capture on my Nexus 4 but they were kinda glitchy. Might try them again on the Z3c. At the moment I'm using Open Camera.
I hope Sony offers RAW file support with the Lollipop update, which would make everything awesome and let us escape the mushy Sony jpeg processing, but I'm not holding my breath.

I had the same problem initially on my HTC Once X, but they resolved it.
I would assume the Lollipop raw feature would be available to all phones running L, though I'm not a developer so just speculating.

Anyway I got an issue even with the pro version...I can't save the pictures in the sd card.

Well all parameters are based on each hardwares capability and drivers. The max I believe is ISO 3200, though my htc one x does not support that, but does go to extended ISO 50. Though, I was told custom roms (like on my htc) can restrict or help features too.
Speaking from using pro DSLR's, I would expect 3200 or more from a camera phones sensor to be very noisy. Obviously the Z3 series does go as high as 12,800, and uses their drm protected algorithms to handle the noise.
You could ask the developers, who are quite good, and see what MAX parameters the app supports for z3c. Tbh, I'd like to know that too.
FV-5 would automatically increase ISO value when the light is insufficient, and produce a lot noise in pictures.
The default Sony Camera would extend exposure time in such environment, according to the result of metering.
I did not find an app, outside the stock, with iso setting. I'm on stock kitkat. Had Sony blocked this setting for 3rd party apps or devs must use different api?
In my old Xiaomi all worked like a charm FV5, capture Pro and ABetter camera.
Camera app for photography
I am using google camera app. It is really good. It is responsive and easy-to-use design.

Is it hardware or software that makes pictures look good ?

Hello Team,
Its so nice to be among XDA members, I have OP3 since 3 weeks now running Freedom Rom(excellent work team)
I had LG V10 , the specs for both cameras are almost the same (except laser focus in V10) but V10 has more details and quality in its pictures.
Is it google camera app that is simple in processing pics or something in hardware that is making the difference ?
Thank you for your feedback!
It's both! and you may add the photographer skill too.
But it's rather the picture quality you're talking about.
Try to deactivate the HD/HQ and HDR option on the top right of the camera app (it looks like the google one but it's copyrighted to oneplus)
Especially in HD/HQ mode, it nicely eliminate noise in low light but you will loose in details.
Beyond that, if you want to make a good picture, activate the grid and put your subject on one of the corner of the grid (search for the rule of thirds)

Google Camera (HDR+) Port on Moto X4

As you guys know, camera performance on the Moto X4, put bluntly, has been less than stellar. Also of note: the Google Camera app (Auto HDR+) has been ported to multiple other Android devices, and it seems as though any device able to utilize the Camera2 API with a Hexagon DSP and Spectra ISP is compatible with the ported camera app. As of a few days ago, the Modded Google Camera ported apk was found to work with the Moto X4, as seen on Reddit in the links below:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ProjectFi/...orted_hdr_pixel_camera_apk_works_for_moto_x4/
https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoX4/comments/77vn3w/psa_google_camera_port_hdr_from_pixel_works_on_x4/
As discussed already, the performance of the Moto X4's camera with the port is much better all round (especially low-light photography) than it is with Motorola's own camera app, which is slow and lacks good processing. Now, listed on some of the posts of the Reddit links above (much more information on the matter there) are links to all of the different apks (some fully functioning, some as test versions, some that are manual and configurable) of the Ported Google Camera app; credits to developers B-S-G and Ivanich for making this possible. Mind you, the most stable apk (Ivanich v1.4 Full PXL2) is configured for the OnePlus 3 most natively, which doesn't seem to support as many newer features of the Google Camera app as the Moto X4 does. That said, if a more stable apk of the ported Google Camera app can be configured to best go along with the hardware of the Moto X4's camera (as has been done with the Xiaomi Mi A1), then for those who aren't concerned about using the secondary camera, there will be a viable option for much improved photography on the Moto X4 as well, that takes advantage of the hardware present more effectively. Again, much more detailed explanation of these concepts on Reddit, in the links provided above. I wanted to bring attention to this for those who are interested over here.
Only deficiency of the apk...
You have the option to delete photos while HDR+ is still processing them. If you do, it seems to get stuck in the notification bar. I don't know if this impacts anything, but just a note.
Great find! Mine comes in tomorrow, and I can't wait to try this out!
I wonder: is anybody working on configuring an apk better suited for the Moto X4's camera hardware, and/or is anyone willing to? As of right now, these are the config options that work most effectively on the Moto X4's hardware (as posted in the r/projectfi [1st] Reddit link):
Phone Model - Nexus 6P. All work here, but the 6P option seems to be the best in low light.
Config camera - Pixel 2017 Zsl HDR #1 and #2 options can crash the app (if you crash it, clear data/cache). All the others seem to work. ZSL is for HDR Auto mode. Pixel 2016 Zsl HDR is most optimal.
Buffers Size - 15 (optimal)
Note: this is the configurable mod below:

When you do try it out, if you can compare picture/video quality to the stock Motorola app, that'd be great, and something I suggest you do anyway to see how you feel about it.

No it's not the same , what you tried was probably gcam4.4 based, the apk i gave link to is based on gcam 4.2 arm version. anyway thanks for trying.
Update: the new Arnova8G2 manual gcam apk works for this device as well. From what I've been told, it provides a similar image quality with better color processing than other gcam ports, and better video quality. This is MUCH better performing in most every aspect that Motorola's stock app. It can be found in the first Reddit link in the original post in this thread (I'm the OP), or directly from here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/. The Arnova8G2 manual mod is based off of a newer version of Gcam, that being 5.1.014 I believe, as opposed to 4.2.x, as the BSG and Ivanich mods are based off of.

So far, how do you feel about the image and video quality with the updated version of this app? Also, how do you feel it stacks up against other devices that you've worked with in the past?
Just tried the newly released v9.1 version. Very impressive with low light indoors. Pictures came out looking like the room was well lit, when it was in fact dimly lit. Also, switching to 60fps on video provides a much brighter/clearer image.

I meant to try it out, but I haven't had the time. I was using the older version of the Gcam to record video at a wedding this past weekend: VERY dark lit dance floor with strobe/lights moving all around, and fast movement. Even at the brightest setting, it was still too dark to see almost anything. I know this is a worst case video scenario, but if the new apk improves video low-light, that would be great!

The Arnova8G2 manual apk should improve the dark image of video in 30FPS, as seen with other mods.

Need some help here, if you own Android one edition. can you share System/vendor/lib and lib64 folder ? you don't need root for it just copy those folder to internal storage and zip it. you can use free version of solid explorer for it. thanks.
i want to see if there's any difference between retail and android one edition regarding image post processing etc.

Nope, don't own one yet. There is no difference in image processing between the two, as they both run the same versions of Motorola's camera software and have the same hardware in tow as well; there'd be no reason for the app to process images differently on the regular version than on the Android One version. They both have poorly optimized camera software in common.
