My first guide so if not everything is clear, let me know
My tablet screen broke a few days ago (a bottle of tequila fell on it) but the device itself works just hunky dory. Together with the fact that I really want to get a Chromecast Audio (but I am too cheap and I'm guessing that the two current versions will be merged into one as a Chromecast 3): enter the Poor Man's Chromecast Audio.
What it does: voice activate music on a remote device through Google Now
Example: (speaking to my phone) OK Google - Nexus play Artic Monkeys
- the tablet starts playing Artic Monkeys
Example: (speaking to my phone) OK Google - Nexus play the wolves
- the tablet starts playing the wolves (by Ben Howard)
Prerequisites
Tasker (duh)
Google Play Music (should work with other media players as well - given some minor adjustments, check out the end of this post)
Pushbullet
Autovoice - paid Tasker plugin, there is a lite version but the price definitely worth it (also the dev is a really helpful guy)
Autoshare - same as above
Extra Android device (mine is a tablet which didn't accept any touch screen input, so I needed an USB mouse + keyboard as well)
Instructions
I'll be using remote (where you insert the command - in my case the phone) and player (which plays the music - in my case the tablet)
Remote
profile - AutoVoice Recognized"
Code:
Command: "nexus (?<tabletaction>.+) (regex)"
task - 1 Push a Notification with the message "%tabletaction"
Player
Received a push: If I received a note containing the text "play" from anyone (my girlfriend uses it as well, if only you use it, ofc change this)
Variable Set: %pushbullet to %CLIP
Say: OK, I'll %pushbullet
Test Variable: Type: length Data: %pushbullet Store result in: %length
Variable Set: Name %cutoff to %length-5
Variable Section: Name $pushbullet from 6 Length %cutoff
Autoshare
Code:
Package: com.google.android.music
Class: com.google.android.music.VoiceActionsActivity
App: Google Play Music
Action: Search and play
Query: %pushbullet
Using this as a template it's possible to add other commands (example: change #4 to react to "note containing stop" and #10 to "Media Control cmd Stop"), seeing how it is mostly the same thing over and over, I won't put all the ones I have here (unless someone asks for them).
Things which I have added:
volume control
media control (stop, skip to next)
turn tablet off
Even though I am sure you can use this with other applications (and not just audio), I currently don't use anything except for Google Play Music but check out http://joaoapps.com/autoshare/intents/ for more possibilities

Hello,
Does somebody has experience with the Tunes Remote app and ITunes9?
I am able to connect to my Itunes and all the artists load. When I click on an artist I see his albums and the number of songs on this album, but when I open an album I get the message that there are no songs in this album. If I long press an album I can play the songs in it and the name and track information displays on screen. I can also skip songs etc. Is this normal behavior or just ITunes 9 related?
Does somebody also has used this app to control his apple tv? I am thinking about buying one.
Thanks in advance
I can't even get it to connect.. It wont find any shared libraries, and manual connection makes it see the android in iTunes, but after entering the pairing code 0000, it just disconnects, and starts the pairing again...
Anybody got it actually working, on itunes 9, on OSX?
Same problem here it wont even connect for me.
Hi!
I got the same problem... I start up TunesRemote (when my Hero is connected to WiFi), and my phone starts to search for libraries... it searches ... and it searches ... and it just keeps searching ! I doesn't give me any results or errors (like he couldn't find any libraries, or..) or anything!
Too bad, but ah well.. I still have the controls on my macbook although, I hope this will be fixed in an update. I don't know if this update has to come from Apple (of so, little change it's gonna happen ) or from the app itself... I'm guessing the app ? Anyone ?
Thanks !
Greets
Same problem here in OS X. Searching finds nothing, manual sees it in iTunes but doesn't pair on the phone. So I switched to GMote. It works.
Even tho I'm sitting here with a Desire, I guess I found the solution, noone essentially posted on the net yet. I kinda know, cause I've been trying to get the Tunes Remote working for 2 days straight now.
But I solved it. Or let me say, google did.
Here's what I had to do to make sure everything turns out fine:
(number 2a is the step most likely responsible for all the fuzz. But I tell you my whole journey)
1) itunes
a] share my library in the local network (settings -> sharing)
b] activate my computer in iTunes in the store to share content (yes, it needs an account. try it without. i don't know)
c] make itunes search for remotes (settings -> at the bottom)
2) computer (I have windows XP sp2)
a] deinstall bonjour
b] reinstall a clean bonjour (google bonjour print download) and make sure it's running (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> services)
c] essential: open the bonjour-necessary port 5353 (take the instructions from ehow regarding "How to manually open ports in Windows XP". and kill window's firewall. it's whack anyway)
3) handset
a] install Tunes Remote (you should know jsharkey's site by now) (you need to allow non-market apps)
b] start it and manually enter your computer's IP in the options (your IP can be found via ipconfig: run "cmd" and type ipconfig)
4) your home
a] enjoy control your itunes from anywhere
Hope this helps any of you guys who struggled and got angry at the no-help state of google regarding this topic. All in all it's been a really aggravating road, but the road ended in success and a proper itunes remote
I've got Tunes Remote working and I love it, but it doesn't stay paired once you shut down either the app or iTunes. Anyone got a fix on how to keep things paired (make iTunes and the app remember eachother so you don't have to pair them EVERY TIME you start iTunes)?

The stock media remote app seems to work fine with Spotify playing on the phone, however it would be pretty cool to see a spotify-specific app, maybe with the following features:
- like track
- albumart
- track/album name
- playlist selection
There are a few remote apps on the play store, but they are PC to phone, an existing phone to phone one may work, if one exists?
Any one have any idea's if the above is possible?
Aghh I just asked this on a different thread!
I don't know if a "Remote Control" app exists for Android, but if it does, it would still probably looks awful on the Gear, since it won't be optimized for it.
Hopefully there could be something created or "hacked" to, at least, transmit song info to the Gear native application. An Xposed module would be awesome!
I've had my Google Home for about one week now and starting to find ways to use it around the house.
To be fair its still "thrill of newness" in the household but of course that won't be enough in the long run..
Mostly we use it for:
* Play music from different channels/artists on Google Play music
* Daughter is starting to abandon her blue tooth speaker with Spotify
* Dimming several Hue lights in different part of the house
* Setting timer
* "Tell me about my day" - Problem is I've got several calendars (one o365) - need to fix this..
* Sometimes listening to news
* Would like to connect it to Swedish radio app... to start livestreaming a chosen channel...
What are your best uses for the Google Home in your home?
We use it for...
Timer in the kitchen
Play music on Google Chromecast Audio
Remember things for us, like codes and phone numbers
Sing us a song (Alexa does that)
i'm using it for:
- weather forecast
- play music from google play music
- control philips hue lights (on/off, dim, change colours)
- stream youtube videos to chromecast
- show pictures from google photos on tv
- listening to romanian local radio (play europa fm from tunein); not all local radios are working unfortunately
- play kids music from my playlist on GPM
- control AV system through smarthings-logitech hub
- play trivia with my wife
- get the route to work info
- small tasks using autovoice
- adding shopping items to list (using keep and shared with my wife's)
Only bought today
Using for music an Chromecast.
Don't have Spotify subscription or Google play music so have to improvise.
But i do love it
Google Home and Facebook Jarvis
Which one is more useful?
Wondering will Windows Cortana and iPhone Siri join this ally
Using it to control a fan (power, speed, and timer), TV (power and starting Netflix to the Chromecast), sound bar (volume, power . Use it for the weather, questions, adding stuff to grocery list. Planning out how I want to do my lighting. Loving it.

I don't notice any additional drain whatsoever.
May I ask if it can be detected as a wireless "headset"? For example using both mic and speaker to place calls or skype calls..
I am planning on getting a home mini..
Alarm Clock and Podcasts.

I am not sure if it'll do Skype, but you can certainly make regular phone calls. Just use the "call <name>" command.
Hey Google, call mom.
- music
- kitchen timer
- morning news
-casting music to TV/AV
- "show me the front yard" - casts my front porch Nest outdoor cam to my den TV. Recently figured out if I'm at my office (15 miles away) and say this to my phone, it will still cast the Nest outdoor cam to the TV, even though I'm not on the home wifi. Kinda neat/odd
- Switches (6 and growing )
- News summaries in the morning
- Broadcast messages
- Casting music to one or more devices
- Time, weather, forecast and more
Will be expanding after Xmas.
Now use it about 90% of the time instead of the Echo dots.
Like the Google home devices quite a bit after a little learning curve.
Turning the coffee pot on from upstairs when I wake up.
Turning our Xfinity cable box off at night and on in the morning because the hard drive is a bit noisy when sleeping.
Both using WeMo Smart Switches
Daily agenda with temp, calendar events, and a brief news rundown from NPR
Turn on/off electronic devices via Logitech Harmony Hub
Turn on/off switches and home alarm via Samsung Smartthings Hub
Start Casting CBS shows
Start Casting Music via Spotify to home theater system via Chromecast audio
So far I use Google Home only for Spotify, coz where I live there is no support for it. ?
Some thing not mentioned, I use it in conjunction with home-assistant.io With a few hacks I was able to control my receiver.
Hello all,
I have some questions, that I hope people can help with.
I am running the newest Malaysk 4.4.4 rom on a RK3188 800x600 unit.
I want to use the Musicolet Music Player as the media player.
(Hardware buttons on the head unit are configured via MTC-Keys and work fine)
The problem: This 3rd party media player keeps running when switching to MTC microntek radio.
This occurs even if the app is selected as the media player. (likely due to Musicolet not being directly supported)
Based on what I have read (portion below), @MVG-V70 's MTC Manager module will allow you to customize it to switch between the different modes in a MTCB.
1) The docs, refer to "When the MODE mutton is pressed". I assume this means ANY of the mod buttons on a MTCB ( examples: DVD/NAVI/BAND...) ?
2) The docs show how each mod is configured in the mode.ini file (See portion below) I want to use the Musicolet music player.
How do I determine all the intents info needed ?
The Package manager app I am using shows the following:
SERVICES
in.krosbits.musicolet.MusicService
ACTIVITIES
in.krosbits.musicolet.MusicActivity
How do i determine what intents are needed to send a stop/start to the Musicolet Media Player?
Is there a different app that will list them ?
Thanks for any help !
LRail
NOTE: the mode.ini docs below are not my actual settings
----------------------------------------------------------------
Portion of MTC Manager docs below
Code:
Programs are switched sequentially one after the other.
For correct sound switching, the applications used must be managed (play / pause) programmatically via intents.
If the player does not support the beginning and stopping of playback by external intents, then it is necessary to switch the sound manually.
When the MODE button is pressed, the active application is searched for in the running list. Next, the application is sent a command (configurable in mode.ini) to close or pause the audio stream.
After that, the default activation for the next application is launched and the application is sent a command to start playback (also configured in mode.ini)
