Hello
I recently bought a Moto X (European version) and I would like to have the Xposed framework on it. To do that I need to have root access as I understand it. To gain root access I need to unlock the bootloader, or do I? I have read a couple of threads where an unlocked bootloader wasn't needed to root the phone, there was apparently some sort of exploit to forgo that. I'm wondering if that is possible with the Android 4.4.4 and European version combo?
I appreciate your time and help!
Best regards
ArticHood
Yes you need an unlocked bootloader to Root 4.4.4.
See the one stop shop for Root in the general section, right near the top. ?

With 4.4.2, the vulnerability/exploit used to disable write protection on the 2013 X was patched and no longer works.
With 4.4.4, the vulnerability/exploit used to root phones with a locked bootloader has been patched.
With 4.4.4, the only way to root and disable write protection is to unlock the bootloader.
Link to Moto X unlocked bootloader?

Hi All,
I have a non-developer edition AT&T Moto X and I'm thinking about going the route of a custom rom now that it's slowed down a bit since it was new. I've had 4 or 5 android phones in the past, and this is the first one that I have not rooted/modified. So, I suppose my question is, if I'm currently on 4.4.4 with my bootloader locked, will I hinder my ability to later root and flash a new rom if I take the upgrade to 5.1?
Thanks for the help!

If you are wondering if you can root or unlock your phone to use a custom ROM, I'm pretty sure for that device there isn't currently any way to root or unlock it, there may be some temporary root methods, but don't really know, but unlocking the bootloader would only be if a new exploit is found with Sunshine, or if the China middleman reappears, which is how I unlocked
Hi people, i have Moto x 2 xt1096 but i cant unlock the bootloader, today exit method to root these phone? I hope help me with root mi cell phone, thanks.
Hey.
First of all, you can unlock the bootloader through Motorola website.
You can't root this phone with locked BL.
You cab try kingroot , heard they had a progress but not sure if it works for this model, you can try.
Good luck.
AT&T moto x 2014 xt1097. does anyone know how to get UNIQUE_KEY to unlcok bootloader
So I have an AT&T moto x 2014 1097. I'm having trouble unlocking bootloader. I know how to unlock it just and get the UNIQUE_KEY for the command to unlock bootloader. I was curious if anyone had multiple methods on how to acquire the UNIQUE_KEY wether its calling Motorola, calling at&t, if I unlock sim from at&t (because I own the phone) would that help remove at&t software, or if there is any programs or ways to achieve the UNIQUE_KEY. Thanks again for any help/knowledge.
Why you not call the at&t to ask them if can help you.
Maybe at&t hold the unlock permision.

ATT won't help him unlock the bootloader. Unfortunately you are screwed unless you are on an update where something like Kingroot (fwiw i don't trust this software) would work.
Unlocking SIM has nothing to do with bootloader or root.

Because it was a carrier phone and their decision. Verizon's 2014 Moto X was bootloader locked for the longest time too. They were nice enough to change their mind but they didn't have to. I'm sure many have tried to ask att and look where we still are.........................
