IPhone SE story reveals. - Off-topic

The wait for the IPhone SE has been broken and it ll be releasing on monday. The Top brand Iphone lanuch their next device which is morely like to IPhone 5s named as IPhone SE with the price range of $399 but It will be having 12mp camera at the rear and so much of hardware upgrades to compete with the upcoming mobiles at the price range. IMO 4 inch display makes me feel like IPhone :/
P.S. Here the SE stands for Sports or Special Edition might be. Most probably Special edition.

The iPhone SE is pretty telling. With the 6 and 6+, Apple made it clear that their customers were demanding phones with larger screens. The 5c was more a budget device, so that didn't show that there was necessarily a large demand for smaller phones. This SE though shows that there indeed is still a demand. We here might scoff at all the things you can't do with an iDevice, but there's a lot more people that just want something that, in Apple's words, just works.
Frankly, if an Android manufacturer were to come out with a sub 4.5" phone with top-end specs and a removable battery, I'd buy it. I've had my finger on the trigger for an S4 Mini to use as an internet mule (currently a full-sized S4), but have yet to pull it. Carrying the S4 and Nexus 6 in the same pocket is a bit cumbersome.

Samsung s6 is still good one for me. I like this one a lot.

Can't decide whether to get a Moto X or wait for the new Nexus

So as the title says I am having a tough time figuring out what I want. Just looking for some input on why you guys chose this phone over others?
Unless the new Nexus is only 5in, has better camera or is MUCH cheaper I see no reason to get it over the X.
Depends on what the screen size is on the new Nexus. If it's 6 inches then I might opt for the X.
If it's as big as the pics that are leaked then definitely the X. I'm typing this with my Nexus 7 and it's not much bigger than the new nexus. Way to big for a phone.

Considering the 5 retailed for $350 out of the box, and this at $450, most likely, the new Nexus will be cheaper (unless they do actually release a gigantic phablet). Also, the N5 came with wireless charging, which is an awesome feature that the X2 is missing. I believe there have also been rumors of a qHD display as well as 3GB RAM and a much larger battery. Of course, most of that speculation would be based on the 5.92" screen, which is just ridiculous (in terms of size).

None of which really would appeal to me unless I was looking at the Note.
I think you misunderstood... I'm saying that if it comes with those specs in something like a 5.2" housing, that would be amazing. I don't want a bigger phone either, my old 5.5" was too unwieldy, 5.9" is just impractical.
If you did understand, then I don't know what you want in a phone. Because if a better quality, higher resolution display, more RAM, a larger battery, wireless charging(, for possibly a cheaper price) don't appeal to you, then I don't know what else would set apart a phone with an almost identical OS.
I'm waiting to see what Google announces before I do anything. The first 2 weeks of October should allow me to make a decision since Google is expected to announce something mid-October. I'm also interested to hear what Sony announces in early October with the Z3. Along with the X, those are the 3 phones I have my eye on going forward.
I'm interested to see about the Droid Turbo, Nexus and Z3.

Don't be so easy to dismiss it. 57% of Apple users are choosing the iPhone 6 Plus which is 158.1mm tall, instead of the 4.7" iPhone6. These people are coming from a 3.5" screen and more recently a 4" screen and they are picking a massive 158.1mm 5.5" phone by the 10s of millions. So Android users that for years have been using 4.7" to 5" phones, a possible new Nexus phone that will be about the same size as the iPhone 6 Plus (remember Apple has no choice but to have that fugly bezel on the bottom and a symmetrical one on the top) should be no problem and a much smaller size difference than what 10s of millions of Apple users are going for. If you don't want it that's fine. But just like the 10s of millions of the users that are choosing the iBend6 Plus, you will be in the minority.

If you don't need a new phone right this second, I can't see why you wouldn't just wait until the new Nexus device comes out. Then you can compare two devices that you actually know what they are, rather than comparing a device that exists, with a device about which there are only leaks, rumors, and speculation. That kind of doesn't make any sense.
In any case, that's what I'm doing. I want to see what the next Nexus device is like first.
Besides, some rumors suggest the new Nexus device will be announced in two weeks. If not, it will still probably be sometime in the next couple months. Doesn't seem like a big deal to wait.

Where are you getting this info? Almost everything I've read shows that the iPhone 6 is outselling the 6+ as much as over 4 to 1 in some places.
I would agree to try something out before dismissing it. But after handling a Note 3 and briefly owning an OPPO Find 7a, I can say, that, unless the Nexus manages to be the same dimensions or smaller than my G2 was, I won't be picking up an N6.

I truly believe that this is not a good indicator of how the phone/tablet/phablet market will trend. It's an Apple product, people will buy it regardless of what it is because it's new and it's by Apple. Period.
Well, now you know: This is the Motorola Nexus 6

Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ coming August 12, on sale from August 21

Going by Samsung’s usual launch schedule, the Galaxy Note 5 would be less than two months away from getting an official announcement at this point of time. Going by recent rumors, however, the time before the Note 5 is unveiled would be even shorter. Well, it looks like the latter is what we will have to believe in, as our insiders have revealed today the the Galaxy Note 5 will be announced on August 12, and go on sale around two weeks later on August 21.
We have also learned that the Galaxy S6 edge Plus will be launched as the Galaxy S6 edge+, and will be announced alongside the Note 5 on the same date. Samsung’s plan to launch two big handsets at the same time (and risking one device eating into the sales of the other) was leaked by a report out of the Korean press a few hours ago, and we can confirm that it is indeed what the company intends to do. The two devices will also be accompanied by the official launch of Samsung Pay, at least for the US market.
Now, let’s move on to a few details of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+. First, Samsung’s next phablet flagship. Let’s get one of the most important aspects of the phone out of the way: The Note 5 will not have a microSD slot, something we had guessed would be the case earlier this month. In terms of design, the phone will basically be a blown-up version of the Galaxy S6. But like the Galaxy A8, the Note 5 will have extremely thin screen bezel, a design change that might come in handy in terms of ergonomics keeping in consideration the new metal and glass design that the Note 5 is expected to feature.
The S Pen will also be seeing a few design changes. According to the information we’ve received, the stylus will look more like a pen this time around (and apparently feel like one, too) and will have the same color as the color of the device. Speaking of colors, the Galaxy Note 5 will be offered in silver, gold, black and white options; these are the same options we’ve seen on the Note 4, though the glass construction on the Note 5 is sure to make these same-old colors look considerably better.
When it comes to the Galaxy S6 edge+, there’s really not much to tell. The device will be a phablet version of the Galaxy S6 edge, with a curve on either side of the screen and the same color options as the Note 5. We can, however, confirm that the S6 edge+ will be powered by the Exynos 7420 instead of a Snapdragon 808, and have 3GB of RAM. Oh, and as we said yesterday, the Note 5 will certainly become the first Samsung phone to feature 4GB of RAM. We’re guessing storage options would be the same as the Galaxy S6 lineup, though it would be great if Samsung would make the 64GB variant the base model to make up for the lack of expandable storage.
Provided all the information we have been given turns out to be correct, Samsung’s next UNPACKED event could be one of its biggest yet, if only because of the number of things it will announce on a single day. The August launch seems too early to be true, but with numerous rumors pointing at Samsung moving faster with the Galaxy Note 5, it certainly looks like we will be hearing everything from the horse’s mouth in under a month from now.

After the mess that was the Note 4 release I don't believe anything until I have a device in my hand.
Me and my N4 will be here if you need us lol.
To be honest why would anyone with an Exynos Note 4 update; the SoC is only slightly improved as is the nand and ram, but the screen is pretty much the same and no microsd support nor swappable batteries? Being released in August also means no Android M at launch, which means you'll be waiting until Jan/Feb for the update. Guessing it'll have the same cameras as the S6 which is pretty much on par with the Note 4's.
***In case this is true***
Now we know the reason our Note 4 is the worst flagship in the updates department. They were planning for a faster Note 5 release to beat Apple. and not respect the 1 year release they had til now. Not cool Samsung.
Well if it's true about it being a blown up version of S6 then not going to get it... No sdcard and non removable battery, I think it's a terrible choice
GALAXY NOTE II... WHAT ELSE?

Samsung's problem is that they have 100000000 different devices to support and different variants of those devices for different regions. No wonder they don't have the time to update all of their phones at once.
Normally I buy a new phone every year but this might be the first time I'll stay on the Note 4 for a year longer. At the moment I don't feel like re-doing all the work we did on CM12.1 Note 4 Snapdragon, for the Note 5 again. Slayher has serious health issue's, so he won't be able to work on it neither. And RaymanFX has just reached the early alpha/beta stages of getting CM running on the 910C Exynos variant, so I'd also doubt he'll jump onto the Note 5.
So the Note 5 might not get a lot dev support and will most likely not feature AOSP for a long time and therefore not something I'd personally be interested in, let alone buy.
Another spam thread. Don't listen to hear say because that only leads to disappointment! Wait for the official announcement from Samsung.

Agree wholeheartedly (if the rumours of features (or lack of) are anything to go by). Its a fat S6. That's it.
I see this as the end of the road for me and Samsung. In so many more ways - I won't buy their next tablet and find no need to buy their TV's which I do now because they integrate well with my phone and tablet. Game over.
All the benefits of the note series have been removed (SD slot, removable battery). I wonder also how easy the back is to shatter. Anyone chucked an s6 on the pavement yet!?
I don't care about larger faster phone memory. I don't care about wireless charging - we don't all carry charger around or have access to power sockets while out and about.
POOR decision Samsung - just because you are an Apple wannabe. In the past you did things differently - and that's what we liked about the note! You have missed a trick and no doubt your ability to remain a key player in the phone market / recover damaging lack of profit as you become more like apple in design everyday.
I've actually seen very few positive posts about the note 5. As opposed to when the N4 was in rumourville - excitement reigned. What a fail.

The Note line has always been a bigger and S-Pen'd version of the S series though. The Note 2 was a big S3 and the Note 3 a big S4 etc. So this hasn't stopped massive sales of the Note series. I do agree that it would be nice to have something different however, but Samsung (and other OEMs) make business decisions that sometimes don't seem right to consumers.

Note 5 will have RAW camera support - it is huge difference between Note 4 and 5.
Battery 4100 vs 3200 is enormous improvement - it is not "non removable". Every battery can be replaced but it will take more to do. You will not do this in train.
Lack of SD card is not an issue IMHO.

Here's a new flash for you. Was the previous Note's not a model after the S line at the time? This is nothing new.
What iPhone and iPad will you be switching to? With your change, you can now get the new 99.5" Apple Liquid Cooled LED and it comes with 3D contacts for free.
The benefits of having a removable SD slot and battery are very subjective:
The ability to add more storage and to swap out the battery is great, however, you can also accomplish this with a battery bank and Cloud storage. Obviously the swap is more convenient, but at the end of the day you obtain the same results. The fact here is that most users don't swap out batteries left and right and the same goes for SD Cards. Solution = Back up your phone, keep it organized, use a Cloud, keep only what you really need and eliminate dead weight files just sitting on your phone, and use a battery bank. There are a lot to choose from.
Any phone that is dropped will take a beating. There's no way around it unless you obviously have a nice case on it that can take an impact to protect the phone. Basing a buying decision on whether a phone will hold up from a drop is a little far fetched. Any phone will incur some damage. Solution = Insurance, which with TM JUMP it's all included. Well and of course use a good case.
If you don't care about a faster phone with more memory, than just stick with the Note 4. What's the problem?
The decision on Samsung's part is based on the majority. Welcome to the real world. That's just how it works. Samsung will always be a key player in the phone market, whether you like it or not. They are a huge multi-billion dollar conglomerate with many different divisions other than mobile phones.
Apple wannabe? Hmmm...Samsung creates the phablet culture and years later Apple comes out with the iPhone 6 Plus and....this makes Samsung a wannabe? I don't think so.... mind you Samsung and LG (both S.Korean giants) provide numerous parts for Apple products. iPhone's IPS Screen is LG, internal motherboard and varies chip-sets are by Samsung, battery cell is Samsung and more.... Some variants were slightly different where some variants had IPS's by Sharp, which Samsung owns a part of Sharp. So before you go blabbering about calling a Tech Giant a wannabe, I'd think twice about it.... but of course you're just speaking out of emotions right?
Here's some food for thought to help you understand further Samsung's decision:
Most people don't need more than 64GB of storage.
Most people don't swap out batteries twice a day.
Most people have several charging options available to them at any given time. Home, Work, Car, Battery Bank, etc...
So being that these are true for the vast majority, it is very logical for Samsung to have made the decision to change up the design language in going with a uni-body frame, that bring about many benefits.
Lets look at the positive:
The Note 5 has...
Way bigger battery (4100mAh) from the Note 4.
Bigger storage option. 128GB
Faster and better CPU.
More RAM.
Better screen. (tba)
Flat front glass, which is a dream come true for glass-screen protector users. (No more 2.5D madness. Finally an edge to edge coverage.)
Uni Body frame...stronger, sturdier, lighter, and just overall a better platform to be able to pack the punch.
Not everyone has the same needs.
Finally the ultimate solution. For all the whiners. SOLUTION = STAY WITH YOUR NOTE 4!
SIMPLE...Everyone's happy.

What an obnoxious post. Who's crying?? Simply feeding back my dis-satisfaction with the change of direction made. This is an open forum and I don't see any rules suggesting myself and many others can't do this.:silly:
If you want a phone that looks like an S6 or ip6, why buy the Note???! - which has always been targeted at high users that do want the flexibility it provides.
It now becomes an S6 plus or an overpriced Oneplus with a stylus..
I'll wait and see, I guess.
MicroSD card and replaceable battery are critical to my use (I swap batteries at least once a day), and I'd really like if the western versions of the Note5 had Dual SIM support.
The Notes are work tools, not fashion accessories, and I use them as such.

Has Samsung finally thrown in the towel?

Is it fair to say that Samsung has stopped competing when it comes to high-end tablets? It very much looks to me that, with the utterly underwhelming release of the Tab S2, it has all but admitted defeat in its war against Apple. What could be the motivation for this major disappointment? Could it be that behind this is the failed Qualcomm 810? Could that be it? Were Samsung relying on Qualcomm's SoCs, and when Qualcomm failed to deliver, they saw themselves forced to go with their older Exynos silicon?
Opinions and speculations welcome.
In my opinion the Tab S2 is great... what made me ditch my iPad was because the S2 has a microsdxc-slot, 4:3-aspect ratio, amoled-screen and it's fast!! If any of these criteria hadn't been fulfilled I would still be using my iPad. LED-flash would have been nice though, but in my case it wasn't a deal breaker.
The only advantage the iPad still has (in my book) is lower audio latency for musicians apps.
Brgds...

Excellent tablet for my needs and considering there are no other high end Android tablets to chose from you can either got with an iPad or get the S2 at the moment.
The nexus 9 which was suppose to be a high end machine was a serious flop, mostly by hardware.

I, for one, am yearning for a 4x3 Android tablet in the same vein as Microsoft's Surface4 (stylus etc.), though hopefully much less expensive.
I also went from iPad to Tab S2. I hovered long between air 2 and Tab s2 but the android platform, amoled screen and microsdxc slot won against slightly better battery, iOS smoothness and faster processor.
Battery life has actually been better than expected due amoled blacks not eating charge and my use consisting plenty of video and reading in night mode. The weight and thinness are also a plus even though I didn't put much thought in them when considering which one to buy. I don't play games apart from Hearthstone which works perfectly so I don't feel that the tablet is lacking in speed at least in my usecase.
I even considered Touchwiz a minus for the tablet but this newest iteration is pretty snappy and not too intrusive. So all in all I'm positively suprised and happy that I took the risk from "safe" iPad air 2 and went with Tab S2.
Still not perfect but I wouldn't call it nowhere near a failure.
Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk
The only failure is everyone else gave up on making android tablets.... The s2 is the best one available so get off the rock.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
I really like my S2. I have the 8" SM-T710 wi-fi model. The amoled screen is very good quality for oudoor use. I purcased a Survivor by Griffin case for my S2. I inadvertantly tested it by dropping it from about 5 ft to a concrete floor. It survived eit no damage.
My S2 is my daily driver that has replaced my aging Acer laptop.
I hate the S2 speaker arrangement. When you watch a movie, all the sound is overloaded on the right side. That is awsome!
Best tab. Trolls ignored.
I wanted a phone-tablet in one... apple surely never delivered... but Samsung did... the fast and stable OS is a big bonus.
...
I think it's a bit 'meh' too.
It's great having a 4:3 tablet, but the speakers are crap and there's no IR blaster (we use our phones a lot at home for controlling the TV).
I was expecting to it handle Samsung Pro Audio better for using it for creating music (it stutters every now and then as the processor isn't up to the job). At least we do now have a low-latency audio production method on Android, though.
I can just about get the fact it's battery is small, as the device is very thin and light - which I like when using it as for reading. Which I do a lot.
I still like it, but am fortunate enough to know I can afford to ditch it and get another device when a better device comes out.
I don't think Samsung has really used the highest possible SOCs on their tablets before, maybe I'm wrong.
I was quite pumped about the Tab S2 and ended up disappointed by it to the point where my mind was made not to buy it in the end. The bottom speakers and the lack of features Samsung tablets used to have (IR, vibration motor) are far from good things, but the deal breaker for me is ironically the screen. I love Amoled but I felt that 264 dpi on that screen is not good enough to justify the expense when text on my Tab Pro looks far better to me... and that should never be the case for an expensive tablet released almost two years later.
Anyway... on my wishlist for future devices there's now a Samsung clone of Google's Pixel C, 2560×1800 10.2″ with Amoled screen. A man can dream
I'm a bit hacked off my Note 4 phone beats the S2 in Antutu. Which is also borne out in day-to-day 'feel' as well.
At 4:3 it does make a good e-reader and web device, but it is an expensive option for that.

Are smaller screen sized phones dead?

Every new phone launching in mid range and flagship categories are at least 5.2 inch or larger. Do you think it is the beginning of end of phones with less than 5 inch phones?
P.S. I hate screen size greater than 5 inch.[emoji17]

Seems like it. Maybe not dead, but mostly dead. Except for Sony and a few Chinese manufacturers, nobody bothers with smaller phones outside of cheapos, and even those are getting bigger. The one obvious (or not, if you're not thinking outside Android) exception is the new iPhone SE. Basically an iPhone 5 (4" screen) with 6s guts. It easily has the highest power-to-size ratio of any phone available. The only problem is that it's an iPhone. Hopefully it sells well enough that some Android manufacturers will recognize there's still a market for smaller phones. I'd love a 4-4.5" Android with some power. Myself I just bought an S4 Mini (AT&T) to use for my home internet and as a music player. It's not exactly powerful, but it gets the job done and serves my purposes.

I fully agree. iPhone SE was a good step from Apple. It would be great if android oem's release smaller sized phones with powerful hardware... Moto g first gen was my first smartphone and it remains the best smartphone that I have used...

Mostly small sized mobiles are turning to rugged waterproof phones. Most people want their phone to pop out of their pockets that lead to big sized phones. And even no one is ready to play a game or watch a movie on the 4" phone.
One of the reasons that I hate big phones is that it becomes a tedious task for me to carry it. Another reason being my small hands...? I can not use 5.5 inch phones with one hand...

Speaking as a woman with size 5 hands...
I wouldn't ever want to use a phone that's smaller than my current 5.7" Note 3. No way. The big screen is an absolute delight. I can actually see what I'm doing without needing to zoom in or use a magnifier, and you can actually see faces in films.
Hell, I bought a 12.2" tablet. That should tell you everything about my views on usability over size.
And yes, I did have to extend my jeans pockets. Bit of a hassle, but totally worth it.
Personally I never understood why people liked small screens. Every time I grab my S5 I have to remind myself that I'm not using an S5 Mini, it's just so bloody tiny....
"It's too big to hold when you're calling". That's why they invented headphones with mics.
I can manage it perfectly fine with one hand. (Though maybe that's because our fingers are more flexible by nature?)

Personally, I never watch movies on my phone. Only YouTube videos. And I've never felt the screen to be too small to watch them on my 4.7 inch Redmi 2. I do read some articles sometimes. 4.7 inch screen not an issue for that too...

On the contrary, I feel most people want bigger screen these days. But the problem is companies no more release smaller phones for small amount of users like me who prefer smaller screens. Guess that's because there are very less people like me...

The trend for larger phones has been interesting and weird. Back when the iPhone had a 3.5" screen Steve Jobs was making jokes about the "huge" 4.3" screen on the Motorola Droid X, and how nobody would want a Hummer sized phone. Then he died, Apple upped the screen to 4", and then eventually 4.7" and 5.5" because they realized that Jobs wasn't an omniscient god that could predict the future. Now I see at least as many iPhone 6 Pluses as I do 6's.
My theory is that the trend for larger phones isn't just because people wanted something larger, but moreso because that as phones became more capable, they became more useful when they were larger. For example, as I mentioned, I just picked up an S4 Mini. While good enough for basic things, it's definitely not a powerhouse. Its tiny screen sucks for games, web browsing, and is very cramped for typing unless you hold it landscape. I wouldn't want it to be any larger, even if it would make certain things easier, because it's simply not powerful enough to warrant being larger. Compare that to my OnePlus One or Nexus 6, or even my S4. The larger and more powerful a phone is, the less it becomes a "phone", and more it becomes a computer that fits in your pocket. This wasn't true back in the days of the iPhone 4 or Droid X. But today I feel like I could go on vacation for several days and only take my Nexus 6, leave my laptop at home, and not feel lost, disconnected, or impotent. Obviously I'd prefer having the laptop, but I'd be fine with the tradeoff of not having to lug the thing around. I know people that have large phones like Notes and iPhone 6 Pluses that don't even have a computer because their phone is big and capable enough to replace it for them.
On the other hand, there's still plenty of people around that don't want a big ol slab in their pocket. Sony has their Compact series, but they have practically zero market in the USA, and not very much market elsewhere either. I think that if Samsung made a Galaxy S7 (or whatever iteration) Compact (not "Mini") with a 4.5-4.7" screen it'd be a big seller. Not only would it appeal to Android users that want a powerful smaller phone, they could steal some of Apple's customers who are only sticking with iPhones because like the smaller size but not necessarily the OS. Imagine an S7 Compact, just slightly over 5" tall and 2.5" wide, with the same 16mp OIS camera, storage, power, and waterprofness of the S7/S7 Edge. Now that'd be a fantastic little device.
Imagine if xiaomi releases a phone with same power as redmi note 3 but with a screen size of redmi 2. It would be even more affordable than redmi note 3 and yet a powerful device... That's the kind of device that I would like to use

I use phone for Playing Games and watching Videos. Small screen has no good for me. So small screen phones are dead for me.
I'm with the OP. I love smaller phones. 5" is ideal and no greater than 5.2". My biggest issue is portability more than anything else. Large devices are difficult, awkward and cumbersome to carry around.
Omg...I remember when a phone that was 4.3" was considered big.

I am a big fan of small screens. I have my laptop for viewing on big screen & same goes for TV. Problem is phone manufacturers don't care about us smaller group. Apple made SE, but it's too costly. Oh well. Then there's OP X but now the CEO says he will discontinue it. Great.

Next phone Opinion, no Hate needed

Hey guys,
I've been an Android guy since the Desire HD days, (2010), but before that I had an iPhone. My switch to Android was mainly for the freedom of thinkering, customizing things to my needs and because by that time, devices where usually cheaper.
I have been seriously considering switching back to iPhone, (6s+) specifically, as I feel that in the last years iOS has advanced, as well as Android, greatly.
I buy Nexus devices for the clean Google Android experience, and fast transparent updates with no carrier OEM interaction.
This whole N update has been a disaster IMO, and I'm reluctant to buy a 6p (I'm always one year behind) thinking the same thing will probably happen to it with the Android 8 update. And I always feel as I have to make compromises with my Nexus devices, like the bad camera (IMO) for the N6, or lag after a few days, or the HORRIBLE touch issues on my 2013 Nexus 7 (which I still love).
Not sure if I could handle the change though, will give my wife's iPhone a spin when it receives iOS 10 today.
Any thoughts?
My thoughts:
N6 and iPhone are very good phones.
Choice is personal.
Disadvantage of the iPhone is the price.

Thanks for the reply, though it seems that the price difference gets smaller each time as the Pixel XL is rumored to cost $649, and the 7s Plus 32GB costs $769.
Honestly not a huge difference, more so when you take in to account that iPhones tend to resale for more (at least here in the states)

Right but..., we pay to much.
The design of the iPhones is superior.
Imo that's the reason why people are so happy to pay the high price.
When we look further.... We have here publications that Apple is fined to pay 13 billion euro. They pay 0,005% taxes instead of 30%.
Apple-like companies are stealing from the community, they use infrastructure etc for free.
Maybe you need a brief break from Android, as i might it is really a personal decision versus specs.
In my opinion, it isn't such a great time to upgrade yet, I honestly wanted to upgrade to the OnePlus 3 but alas, it's GSM only so its bands don't support Verizon. Then I was looking towards the Galaxy Note 7 and was thinking about upgrading, but then the whole battery explosion fiasco happened. Now the iPhone 7 came out and I wasn't amazed one bit. Keep in mind I used to have iPhones since the 3G lineup, but the customization capabilities were so stale and weak so I switched over to Android on the Galaxy S5, never looked back.
If I am to upgrade anytime this year it's going to have to be a "Pixel" device and they're going to have to wow me, otherwise I think I'll hang onto my N6 for another year, still an amazing device
I wouldn't get the 6p, since it is snapdragon 810. Frankly, the 6's 805 is a better chip.
Not sure the reason for the panic about the update, it has only been a few days. They've been adding one device at a time, presumably to let the dust settle on the latest device before moving on to the next one. 6p was the most recent to get the update, only one remaining now is the 6.
The next ones (named pixel instead of nexus?) will be snapdragon 820 or 821, which is finally a good 64bit chip from QC.
IMO the ZTE Axon 7 is the best bang for the buck right now. Flagship specs and all the latest features for $400. You could sell your Nexus 6 for $150-$200 to help offset the cost.
Thanks for the input everyone.
Gave my wife's 6s+ a spin, and it would be a pretty big change. Going to think about it for a while and see. Depending on the Pixel lineup I will choose.
Thanks again!
The one benefit of Android is we're really starting to get great phones at a bargain price, something that will never happen to iOS. For instance, my wife got the Amazon-version of the Moto G4 for $125 and it's a pretty amazing phone. Not stock android, and who knows about updates, but it's a great phone for the price.
I'm going to have a lot of trouble upgrading to anything that costs over $300. I'm disappointed that the upcoming Pixel phones are going to be in the Samsung/Apple price range, as opposed to ~$300-400.
After my Nexus 6, I'm considering staying a year behind. Upgrade to a 6p or 5x. Stay in the ecosystem, get the Google updates, get a faster phone but not pay leading-edge prices.
I have three things that keep me from going iPhone and one of them is something I can overlook. I need to have access to the file structure and use my phone as a USB drive. I also need to have the ability to send ANY file to another person via email, like zip files or different image formats like .tiff. The iPhone email restrictions are a deal breaker to me. I also hate having every app on the main screen all of the time, but I can live without it. I'm heavily invested in the Google system, but I'd give that up too.
An iPhone for 99% of people is a solid choice, it's just a fact. But guess what? Android is a solid choice as well. But things like OEM induced OS fragmentation and carrier interference make it a bit less desirable, but Nexus is the way a fix for that. I have to say if they get rid of Nexus devices and get rid of the ability to root (I love ad blocking at the system level) I may have to go iPhone as well.

The design is superior except of the fact the iPhone 6 and above bend super easy. I work for a cell repair shop and about half of them are bent when they come in for a screen replacement or any other service. We also have a lot of bad batteries come in, and they get so bloated that they push up the screen. But I guess it is better to bloat than explode like the note 7 lol

Well I enjoy being on the bleeding edge, that is why I bought Nexus and put up with the shortcomings of Nexus, but the way Google has handled N for the N6 leaves a really bad taste. I know it sounds picky but we buy Nexus for the often mentioned Google updates. Not a fan of the 6p but I'm seriosly considering it, maybe I'll get it during Black Friday.

Well I believe that it depends on the person, I can use a phone without case and it won't have issues, still I use a pretty slim one that provide very little protection.
My wife on the other hand, needs to have her phone encased in an almost military grade cover, my kid the same.
There are just people who take a little bit more care of their phones, or just give it a lot more value, for others it's just another tool so if it falls it falls.
I had the note 7. I tried to like it. I like the camera a lot. But I'm sitting at best buy right now returning the note 7. I knew going into the note 7 that TW was a memory hog but I tried to like it. After using it for a couple of weeks and used my N6 again, I couldn't believe how much quicker everything felt. So here I am, back to the N6, I'll be on the look out for the pixel phones.
Since price and OEM practices of apple arent an issue for you, get an iphone.
iphones are targeted at a specific demographic and it seems you are part of it.
Gonna resurrect this thread since the Pixel phones just came out. I honestly do not find the Pixel (reg and XL) appealing.
I used a co-workers S6 Edge, and I have to admit, it was pretty nice. I would actually go for the Note 7 since I like the bigger screen (yes, explosion, yes fire, just saying).
Any recommendations?
