Problems After Cache Partition Clear? - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

So I recently tried to wipe my cache partition and I was able to perform all the steps successfully. It started wiping but after a few minutes, a bunch of text flashed on the screen. It moved too fast for me to catch it but it was something like "unable to mount......." and a bunch of different stuff. After (receiving no input from me), the "dead android" thing would flash on the screen and then go away very quickly. I was able to get the phone to boot by mashing buttons. What is causing this? I have successfully wiped the cache before and haven't ran into this. I am unrooted, stock, with a locked bl. I have messed around with kingroot before in the past, but I currently don't have it on my phone.

Once I had the same problem, you need to flash phone with stock firmware

I am stock with BL locked.

you can reflash stock via RSD Lite.

Kingroot probably messed something up, I've never heard of a cache wipe failing although it does take a long time in the stock recovery. A very easy way to return to 100% factory clean is running the Verizon repair assistant, which can be installed to your PC when the phone is connected by USB.

I'm unable to get the Verizon repair assistant to detect my phone. My phone shows up with a adb check but not under the repair assistant. As a side note, I went back and watched RootJunky's video on the original sunshine unlock (the one that required kingroot) and in one of the steps it told him it was unable to mount cache. However, the phone worked fine. Not sure if this has anything to do with my problem, or if repairing anything/flashing/trying to unlock the bootloader will cause any problems.

Kingroot tries to force itself onto the write-protected system partition. That can make the phone a little angry at times.

[Q] Pete's Unroot + Factory Reset = Stock Bionic?

I'm preparing to exchange my Droid Bionic because of issues with hardware and responsiveness. I one-click rooted the phone and also modified the Hotspot to enable it using a SQL editor.
I wanted to get my Bionic back into fresh-out-of-the-factory conditions. I used Pete's Unroot tool and also did a factory reset. Is this enough to pass any checks Verizon can do to void my warranty? Or will I have to use RSD Lite to reinstall the firmware?
Thanks in advance.
if you didn't delete anything then yeah it's good.
I think the worst I did was freeze apps. I didn't unfreeze any of them before I unrooted and did a factory reset, but I double-checked and they're all back and working (e.g., VZW Navigator, Blockbuster, etc.).
I just want to make sure that when Verizon gets this and they're doing their inspection, a directory doesn't appear that has extra files in it, the firmware seems modified, or anything else that could indicate the firmware was tampered with.
a factory reset doesn't wipe the SD card right?
fine. i meant the SD-ext you stupid phone
you might have rootish directories/files hanging around there...unless i'm wrong
Truly you should just do the rsdlite restore. Minus the download time, it takes like 7 minutes. And it is completely stock.
Thanks for the info. I ran the RSDLite restore on my phone. I started freaking out at first - my phone went from booting up and being ready to be delivered back to Verizon, to not even getting to the Motorola logo during boot-up. I thought I bricked my phone because RSD kept failing. I read through some posts, and it apparently RSD is successful after repeating the steps over and over and over and over and over... again.
Anyway, I ran RSD with the full Bionic restore possibly 100 times. After 2 hours, it was successful. I re-checked the settings and apps and everything was okay (I had read some people were missing the camera app, but mine was there and working). The phone was good-to-go (hopefully). If I get a huge bill from Verizon, I'll update this post in the next 2-3 months (*knock on wood*).

[Q] Moto X 2014 does not boot

Hi, I just got my new phone yesterday, and I"m having issues actually turning the thing on. Yesterday, everything was going fine. Since I got the pure edition, I went ahead and unlocked the bootloader, and then ran the Auto Root program I found in the general section. After that, I installed some apps that I needed. I downloaded some videos to watch later, I downloaded some music, and then I installed AdAway.
Here's where I probably screwed up big time: I disabled some applications from the app picker (Help, E-Mail, and a few others). I was having some trouble with the Inbox app searching properly, so I re-enabled Gmail at least, but I left the others disabled. Then I connected the phone to my Coolstream Duo, which is a bluetooth audio device, and then went to sleep.
When I woke up, I was able to unlock my phone, but I unlocked it to only the back button available and Google+ on the screen. Nothing functioned, so I force powered off. Now I can't turn the device on, it either is stuck on the "Warning, unlocked bootloader" screen, or gets to the Motorola globe boot screen, playing half the animation before the screen goes black. Once, I booted and it got past all that to the "Android is upgrading" screen, and it optomized 38 apps, but then after it got to the unlock screen, the pattern wouldn't show up. I followed these factory reset instructions: https://motorola-global-portal.cust...detail/a_id/101072/p/30,6720,9197/reg/2380937 and they didn't seem to do anything. I also attempted to download the stock image for Android 4.4.4 but it said I wasn't allowed to access the file.
If anyone could recognize what I did wrong to my phone, that would be great, and if anyone could provide a link to a factory image of the phone so I can attempt to restore it, that would be awesome as well.
Sounds like flashing the 4.4.4 system image may solve your problem. Here is a link where you can grab the fxz without asking for permission from Moto.

Oddly enough, directly after writing this post, I stepped out of class to find my phone had booted and was on the welcome screen. But if anything bad happens again, I'll be sure to have this link ready! Thanks for the help!

Either. The only thing with rsd lite is that it does not like USB 3.0. Your computer will need a USB 2.0 slot.

Great! I would prefer flashing trough fastboot. Could you give me the instructions please?

Is there a root method that doesn't require unlocking the bootloader? (LRX22C)

I just got my N6 a few days ago, and JUST got everything all set up how I like. I went to go root it, and the method mentioned in the "All-In-One" stickied thread requires you to unlock the bootloader, which says it will factory reset the device.
I don't want to factory reset at this point, I just want to root it. I've never had to wipe a phone or unlock a bootloader to root a phone before, so this is new to me.
Thanks

There is a way, I believe, by running TWRP on your PC and flashing SuperSU from your PC. However, it's not a recommended method as you will have no way of backing up. Also, if you get caught in a bootloop, you won't be able to recover without a custom recovery.

and you don't have to "hack" a nexus as well, as google provided an easy way to unlock your bootloader and to obtain root. if you just got your nexus a few days ago, just unlock the bootloader and root it. loosing a few days of information is more than worth it for root. don't waste your time worrying over a few days of data.
Can be done but not recommended.
adb backup/restore can save a little bit of information for you, but I wouldn't go in expecting it to save everything
Sent from my Nexus 6
What did you set up? You can back up your messages, and your apps will re-download. Your photos are already syncing to Google. If it's not rooted, I can't imagine you've done that much customization.
Lesson learned: unlock should ALWAYS be the very first step you do on a new phone.

if you download kingroot from the internet and install it onto your phone through unknown sources. it says your not supported but just click start root anyway. and hey presto your rooted. ive done this on my nexus 6 and its worked and hasnt knackered the phone and i know a couple of other people whove done the same
the only thing i havnet worked out how to do is take the king userr off. once your finished rooting, in order to sustain root that app becomes a permanent addittion to the phone. ive deleted it before and lost root. but just reinstall and follow the steps again and you gain root again
to check root download root checker form the app market

Yes we're aware but we do recommend against these one-click methods usually. Rooted users cannot accept OTA updates, so the only way to update is with an unlocked bootloader unless you're going to have a custom recovery (also highly recommended) so you can flash flashable zips.
Also you MUST go into settings and enable the "Allow OEM unlock" in developer options, because If you break your OS with root, which is easily done - you're going to become stuck as you can't unlock the bootloader. Not too bad if you have TWRP recovery installed, but then that becomes a single point of failure.

Good stuff. Once rooted, Flashify is a great tool to flash TWRP. With the nexus 5, you could unlock the bootloader with an app that didnt wipe everything, which was great, but Nexus 6 doesn't allow that, but always do go to settings > developer options > OEM Unlock (Set to enable). Without this set, you cannot unlock the bootloader from fastboot. Also, side note, developer options doesn't show up until you go into Settings > About phone then tap "Build number" several times to make the option visible. Think its 7 times.
It's interesting saying that you need kingroot to remain on the device. Thats a bit of a pain. Does it install SuperSU or not? If not, might be interesting to see what happens if you install the SuperSU app from Play - whether it allows it to be removed then.
My preferred method however is definitely unlock the BL, fastboot flash TWRP, From TWRP flash SuperSU zip (or rooted ROM).
For the record, I did end up factory resetting to do it the right way.
Is this easy to unroot if a new OTA update comes out?

Yes and no. To "unroot" you have to fastboot flash system.img and boot.img, which if the factory image is available for the version your OTA will raise you to, you're done. If there is no factory image for that new version, you must flash the system and boot(and recovery) of the expected version, then OTA. Note, recovery version isn't checked. Only system and boot. Just that recovery must be stock for OTA to flash.
To be honest, easiest way is to wait for a rooted flashable zip to be made available and flash via recovery

Geez. I thought the "pure google experience" would be much less of a headache. lol. Rooting/updating/etc was so much easier on my old Verizon phones.. one-click-root, one-click-unroot, easy updates, never had to factory reset or flash roms to do anything.
I only rooted for AdAway, starting to wonder if that was a good idea or not.

No way to get my XZ3 into recovery mode--- because of some spyware?

Good evening and sorry if post a thread of which I see two similar oness
However, I could not find a solution in the other ones and have questions which go a little further and really hit my privacy.
I have two XZ3 and both could go into recovery node when I bought them and after a while could not.
I used the reset to factory seting fo wiping cache etc. quite regularly as I had/have reasons to belive that I was/am spied on.
Sice the recovery mode possibility is gone I feel totally unsafe with both phones.
I tried all possibilities I can find of this website or any other in internet, and all were without success.
As described by others, after pushing the power button, there is no led light and it boots suoer-quicklyto the blue stripe view in which we wait till the boot is complete.
Till two days ago I thought ok, the phone just needs a flash, wipe everything away once and all would be resolved.
Well, two days ago I flashed my phone the first time from lollipop to kitkat, which worked without problems and then rooted it with gifroot and then put back lollipop.
Everything ran smoothly and after the whole process I had a rooted lollipop version with a working recovery. I tried the apps which confirm if the root works abd everything was great.
Tthe morning after, however the recovery possibility was gone. The phone was still rooted for everything, but for recvery mode.
I tried several apps, which I gave superuser access with SuperSu, but even from the apps the boot goes always just the NORMAL way without recovery.
To give it another try today I flashed that xz3 again, then rooted it with Kingo root, which in Kitkat firmware worked lalso super easy, the checked with other apps whihchconfirmed that the root works, but still no recovery possibility, no matter with which app..
I really need a specialist who can explain that to me, as I am going mad to think that someone else has total control over my phones.
How realistic is that some spyware does not allow the recovery as of course it knows that it would be eliminated then.
Please give me your thuoghts or knowledge. Everything helps. And if you know a method with which I can be sure that nothing is keft on the phone, I would appreciate.
Thanks and Regards

Spyware cannot affect Recovery unless it is granted root permissions and is embedded on system.
Also do not use KingoRoot, a thread in the SG note 3 forums reported Spyware installed after using it, source. For now steer clear of that application until all claims have been proven false
At any rate, ( assuming you have Unlocked Bootloader ) just flash another kernel with recovery, do a full wipe including formating the system partition and restore your system via flashing a rom

If you can enter flash mode, flash the latest firmware and software for your device using flash tool.
What is flash mode? I can get the phone in a mode where the indicator lamp turns blue is it that?
get Flashtool @ https://xperiafirmware.com/flashtool/
it includes Xperiafirm so you can download a stock ROM for your device and build an .ftf file
when you have the ftf file, drag it into the main Flashtool window

pixel 4 boot hang

welp. A month back I pulled my phone from my pocket and it was stuck on the boot screen.
I can only guess it came on in my pocket and triggered the update I was going to deal with that coming Monday.
And I guess the update had failed.
I had no time to deal with it till now. I side loaded the latest OTA update, and it's changed nothing.
Is there anything else I can try to either get it to boot or get access to the storage to recover data from it?

If your bootloader is locked there is nothing else you can really do. Flashing the full image would likely bring it right back with your data intact. If BL locked, the only options you have are in the stock recovery. You can side load OTA's via recovery using adb, but it is restricted to that. If you didn't have usb debugging already enabled you can't use push/pull or use any other commands, and your data is encrypted. There is only a very slim chance doing a FDR from recovery would get you back into System. Very slim. Hopefully you purchased through the Google Store, otherwise your only recourse is to go back to the store/carrier where you bought it.

Yes it's locked. I did not much to the phone because it is a company phone. It was purchased through Verizon.
I'm pretty confident that a factory reset will fix it, from my research on it, but I'm going to keep holding off and try the next OTA update before giving up.
It's just unfortunate because as it does have a great camera, I used it a lot for taking pictures when I didn't have a dslr on hand. So a few trips worth of pictures are on it and I only pulled a few off.
I usually backup all that before updating, but didnt get a chance to because it decided to just do it in my pocket.
