Im a n00b. And i really need your help. HTC Desire 626. - Desire 626 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, and a happy multicultural Easter to you too
I'm having from what I can make out, a problem that googling has so far not been able to solve. I've had a read through a few threads on here too and come up short.
Firstly the hardware.
HTC desire 626 (not desire x or desire s etc, just desire 626!!)
Running Android 5.1
Network is EE (UK)
16gb on board storage
Additional 16gb micro SD card
PlayStation 3 500gb (new shape)
Latest PlayStation firmware/software.
Currently no internet in the house as if having fibre put on in 9 days.
Right. On to the problem.
Basically, like all the HTC's I've owned, I want to be able to plug in my phone via USB to the ps3, and watch , or copy over my films, pics, music etc.
Sounds simple? Yeah that's what I thought too.
When I plug it in, it charges etc, but the mount media menu in the menu you dr
I basically can't mount my phone on my PC
I'm told that Rooting my phone, and installing a custom OS (rom?)
But I havnt got a clue what to it, and even reading some guide I'm a bit lost.
Can anyone help guide me through it? It's my brand new baby, and such an awesome phone in all other aspects. I'll buy you a big box of cadburys roses.

Nobody?
Pretty please?

[Q] Anyone wish they had a μSD card?

I'm about to pull the trigger on purchasing this phone. I would like to ask if anyone out there REALLY miss having a micro SD slot or not. I've had my HTC Incredible for 4+ years now, and I've gotten used to having an easily accessible slot.
Do the HTC One owners wish they had this option on their phone? Or is it something you've gotten over, and no longer feel the need for?
Thanks!
Nope plenty of storage

I had the HTC Incredible also, then I went with the iPhone (32GB), then to the G-Nexus (32GB), now I'm on the HTC One (also 32GB). I've gotten used to the fixed storage, and I have yet to fill it up, even with several apps (40+) and about 8 playlists saved on Spotify.
HD Videos will eat the space up like it's nothing. Ask me how I know -_-
I definitely miss it. I'm managing now but the hassle of eventually having to delete stuff for space will annoy me.
I miss it just because of how dangerous is to loose everything and cant recover it.

How about removable battery?
Thanks for the replies! How about the lack of a removable battery?
I just know with experimenting with several ROMs, Kernels, and such, there has been need of doing a "battery pull".
Has anyone encountered a problem with this? Or is there some type of kill-switch or override built in?
Thanks again.

Generally Power + Volume down will also do a reboot, just like pulling the battery

It's your call at the end of the day, everyones usage is different, some people like a lot of movies, others like games, or music, or apps.
You have to weigh up if this is enough for you. For me I always keep to my means.
32GB is plenty when you think about it, just don't keep un needed apps on your phone and honestly i don't think anyone needs 10,000 mp3's
So with a little juggling you can have a large library of apps, games, movies, pics and music with a load of space left over.
I'm around 12GB away but i know i could max it out if i installed all my apps, I just install what i need and if i need anything else then i can download it, keeps the phone nice and neat with little bloat too.
I had quite a few reservations before buying this phone but i'm glad that i did now, this year the One is the one to beat and for me it's the better buy between itself and it's nearest competitior which is the SGS4, the build quality, the audio, the screen, the overall look of the device is just mind blowing.
Only gripes i have is that it "DOES" get hot when you stress it, you notice it a lot more because of the aluminium chassis, the battery isn't as good as i'd have hoped and the BT stack is good old HTC's limited version rather than the one used on stock android or even samsung and other phones.
That last one is a personal gripe because i like to play tekken 3 with a ps3 controller but the Moga Pro is a decent replacement even if it is £40
Also the camera isn't great, although in low light it's suprisingly good and it picks up picture where'as the likes of the note 2 only gets a black screen.
Overall it's a beast of a handset and the battery being locked in is something that you'll get used to, forcing a reboot is simply a case of holding power until it goes off.
I've never used an SD card even in phones where I had the option! I hardly store anything on my phone but the 25-odd GB on the One is more than enough for me
I use a Mac and I miss not being able to simply mount my phone as an external storage. I can use the Andriod File Transfer utility, and I do, but it's kinda buggy and not convenient.
As far as the size of storage goes, it's plenty.

I Love this phone but....

I know we all love this phone, it is awesome. Super Fast, Super intuitive stock android, Super pretty, but lets be honest What's the one issue that Makes you want to get rid of the phone and never look back.
I didn't know how important a microsd card was to me until I used this phone. I used to have my entire music collection on my GS4 and while I still have online access to everything, I really miss not having to use up all my data and really being able to listen to anything anytime anywhere. Also pinning music for offline use through Google music sucks when you have thousands upon thousands of tracks and might forget what you have and haven't saved for offline play.
What's your issue that made you rethink your purchase for a slit second.
I knew there was no sd card going in and embraced it. I think it's easier to keep track of what's on storage and I obviously bought a 32 GB.
No complaints with the phone here. Well except I would have bought a red one.
Oh, ibl
Complaining isn't going to help.

For the average user, most phone companies now are not including an SD card on pretty much all of their phones (except samsung.) With cloud storage and high speed internet available at your finger tips, just stream it all. Google will let you store like 20,000 songs free and stream them. It may be a strain on your data plan, but if you're at home or the office, just use wifi.
The point of the fact is, if 16GB isn't enough, they make you buy the 32GB phone. If that still isn't enough for you, they recommend you use their services and apps to fill in the gap.
For me it's not having USB audio on stock.
Many people have no idea what this means, and even if they did it wouldn't matter to them, but to music quality snobs such as myself, it really irks me.
Especially because iphones have usb audio.
Cyanogen and probably some other roms support usb audio so it is possible to get with this phone
But I really feel this should be on stock android, and on every single phone.

To the OP, may I offer a suggestion:
Use a large portion of your internal storage to store the albums/tracks you listen to w/ the most frequency, and leave the online storage for the remainder. Obviously you can swap between the two whenever you'd like, but seems like it would make the most sense given the fact that you still decided to go w/ a N5.
May not serve your "any track, any time, anywhere" purpose fully, but will save you data and still allow you quick access to a good portion of your media.
I have to say, the limitation on storage does not bother me in the slightest. Sure it would be -nice- to be able to expand the storage, but in this day and age, data is getting cheaper and cheaper, and services that stream media are getting better and easier to use.
Why do we need more storage? how many apps are you truly going to install? how much music do you really need to take with you at all times?
personally, I have a network attached storage, which does owncloud. Through this, and the owncloud app, I stream all of my media to my phone wherever I am.
One could also use a service such as dropbox, or even just listen to online radio streams or even watch netflix for movies.
"The Cloud" is all the rage these days, and it's getting more and more cost effective to use such services. So really, why do we need an SD slot? why do we need additional storage?
I have a 128 GB USB drive attached to my key chain, and a USB otg cable in my wallet all the time... No need for an sd card here... Just wish there was an i r blaster

That'll do it right there.
I was preaching this a year ago when people were bagging in the HTC One and no SDcard slot. LOL
I have the 16 gig and no issue.... well it's because I have Sprint and have decent service in Houston so pulling anything from/to the cloud is a no worries situation for me!!
Get one of these.

Yup, who needs an elegant solution like MicroSD card when we can carry USB drives and OTG cables :good:
your thread name is misleading. love is unconditional, period. if you have conditions to get your love, that isnt love. you dont love your phone. i love my nexus 5, with every perfection and misperfection it has
title edit
I have edited the title because I think I am giving people the wrong impression. The point I was making is that even though somthing is awesome, because we are all individuals and this is a mass market device there are bound to be things about the phone that erk us, maybe its only an issue to you. I didn't intend this to be an sd card complaint thread, Just a chance for everyone to vent their idiosyncrasies.
The nexus 5 is probably the best phone I've used/owned hands down. No regrets whatsoever
I definitely love this phone. I came from the Note 3 and do not miss that phone one bit although it wasn't a bad phone either. I have more than enough gigabytes (32gb) and if I felt that 32gb wasn't enough then I would of stuck with the Note 3 (which has expandable memory) or bought a phone that offered expandable memory.
I do not agree with streaming from the cloud as alternative unless you have a true unlimited 4g/LTE plan. Also I would hate to walk around with USB OTG as an option. OP next time get a phone with expandable memory or hope they make the N6 in a 64gb version.

I hate the headphone jack at the top.
Whatchu talking bout willis!
I have a very large music collection. All of the tracks are in a mySQL database. I made a little bash script that randomly selects about 8gb at a time and copies the tracks to the phone. I am more than satisfied.

Thinking about getting L90

Hey guys!
I'm looking for cheap smartphone to replace my old Nexus S. I just saw these cheap LGs finally available at normal price here in Slovakia. L90 is 150€ and I'm also looking at newly announced F60 which is around 140€. Lastly there's also L70 for 120-130€.
I don't need great camera, I very rarely take photos. I mostly surf net and do a call or two a day. Almost always on wifi. Sometimes a bit of GPS and from games I really don't play anything 3D, mostly card games and games like Simpsons Tapped Out.
The question is, which one should I choose? They all seem very similar. There's also Moto G, but the new 2nd gen is not available here and the older one doesn't have sd slot.

I like the phone Good specs for me, GPS is fine, camera is ok, fast, good battery, sd slot, ...
It has a great screen that never freez. I love it.
Does it support USB OTG? The LG specs page mentions it, but people are saying it doesn't work.
As far as I know, it does not support USB OTG.
Thanks. I emailed LG so at least they can tell me the truth or fix the specs page. Why it's so hard to add OTG in these days? Even some more expensive phones don't support it :/
The F 60 is on of the first 64 bit capable androids, so totally get the f60!!
It has a snapdragon 410

Would you buy a htc 510 again?

I am trying to decide if I want to get in on the last week for Cricket with the htc 510 for free after rebate.
Reading up on this phone it looks like you do have root but the 64bit cpu is causing a hinderance with getting things like TWRP recovery and cyanogenmod.
It also doesn't appear to have little quality build things like gorilla glass.
Since the phone really isn't free, you have to pay for service for a month or two, I am wondering if anyone would hesitate to sink money into it again.
I don't see the benefit of 64bit on a phone and being the first means it also will be last to get software extras.
no, due to its complicated steps of hacking
- unlock bootloader (relock, and re-unlock (not available yet?)),
- TWRP recovery not assessable after relock bootloader (fastboot oem lock)
- cricket online would show device as "non-cricket device" and your phone's bootloader would say "TAMPERED" -> reduced resale value
- scarce ROM options compared to MOTO G
- ROM/radio/kernel options are mixed up for Sprint/Boost/Virgin/Cricket and no one knows for sure which works on which...
- digitizer seems not register touches properly. you need to touch lower part of what you wanted to touch (button, softkey) to get the phone respond
- digitizer seems sometimes less responsive to touches while other times too sensitive to a little moistures (like sweat from hands)
- its charging port on the right bottom side make it inconvenient to get docked in the phone holder in my car and be charged in the same time. (The stopper is usually on both sides of the phone, leaving the middle part open (where most phones having their charging ports))
i have mine in light use since 12/26 and i regretted my decision, I used MOTO G before but I dislike its round and curve back case and I wanted to experience stock Sense UI. So I took the chance experiencing it... but...
if you have a MOTO G in mint condition from cricket (LTE-support), I'd consider a trade with the extra $25 LOL
good luck

Well at the risk of turning this into a not-allowed phone vs phone thread, I'll just point out that while the quality of the Moto G is undeniable and worth the $25 extra, the problem is the model Cricket uses for their Moto G is locked down hard with no available bootloader unlock and no root, so forget roms.
Only reason why I was considering the HTC 510
I also just learned the USA version of the 510 is the 32bit cpu model so that improves things as TWRP is available for that one (I think?) but the camera is not auto-focus and no flash.
If it was truly free-after-rebate I'd still get the 510 but since you have to pay at least two months of service it is really a $70+tax phone and I'm not paying that for no flash and no auto-focus.
I managed to get 2 of them free by upgrading from CDMA to their gsm network I gave them two ****ty blackberrys from like 1998 lol

Thanks for that comment, ck. I was gonna do some research on cricket moto g, but still finishing up with 510 for now.
I jumped on the cricket deal on black Friday and gave my son the phone for Xmas. It was his favorite gift by far. I couldn't use this as a daily driver but it is definitely worth two months of cricket. Cricket service has good coverage with 4g and late but I can't get speeds of more than 8 or 9. The phone is basically free and can handle any games apps I've thrown at it. Display could be better but no other complaints.

This phone sucks if you've ever used a high quality phone like any of the galaxy series, note series, HTC one, nexus, I'm saving for another quality phone. No memory here, camera is horrible. Phone lags, yes the digitizer is horrible. And, I love music and with headphones it sounds terrible to use, I just don't see myself ever going this route again.
And I'm rooted running custom ROMs which is improvement, but I don't see any ROM fixing the negative about this phone, just improving crap
Sent from my HTC Desire 510 using XDA Free mobile app
When my CDMA Cricket-flashed Galaxy S2 finally died, I replaced it with the Cricket 510 and must admit I'm a little disappointed, although I wasn't expecting a world-class device at that price. Battery life and performance are better than I expected, but the grainy flashless camera, low storage space, and somewhat finicky digitizer leave much to be desired.
This is also my first experience with Sense and I'm not liking it too much, but there are replacement apps (launcher, messaging, keyboard, gallery, etc... ) that get the job done better. But as soon as the camera is fixed in cm11, I'm flashing it.
Would I buy another one? Probably not... I think I'd rather spend more for a better device. But if you're low on cash and need something quick and decent, this isn't a bad way to go at all.
Definitely not for the reasons already stated by everyone else. It is too much of a pain.
Unlike everyone else, I'd buy this phone again in a heartbeat. I got it for next to nothing and it works completely fine. Out of the box the lack of space on the internal storage is a little unnerving but it does have an external micro slot and now that it's rooted deleting the mass of bloatware installed by HTC gives up tons of space. I've flashed CM on mine now and it's even better and works beautifully especially considering it's a no-contract pay-to-go phone.
It amazes me that people want this phone to hit the ground running but NO PHONE DOES THAT save maybe the OnePlus One and the Yureka. We have a limited pool of devs on this phone and they have their own jobs outside of this forum and other phones that they work on. Stop being so self entitled and if you don't like the lack of development on the phone do something about it. The current devs we have already have a device tree up, ported the CM MSM8974 kernel, and a vendor repo (or you can use ./extract-files.sh and pull your own). It really doesn't take that much to get to learning on how to build CM and although deving is a little more, if you don't like it learn it. The phones not been out that long people, like less than five months.
For all it's worth, the phone works perfectly and has better specs than most of the other pay-to-go phones. Like I said, storage out of the box is lacking but there are given alternatives and if you don't like them then root the phone and remove the mass of bloatware. The touchscreen works fine for me 95% of the time. There are some times where the touchscreen gets a little crazy but it's once in a blue moon. The only real downside is the speakers and one of the devs here in the forums found a mod and if I remember correctly ported it to the 510 to work better. Yeah the camera issue on the current CM build is a little annoying but that part comes with flashing ROMs especially ROMs that aren't supported by CM themselves.
The device worked perfectly for me out of the box and the device continues to work like a beast for me with the current CM build from @rbheromax, @kalisto2002, and @shinru2004.
Like I said, I'd buy the phone again if I needed to because it was next to nothing.
That's my two cents.
I got mine free and regret every penny I didn't spend on something with more internal storage.
Thing is that is my only gripe with the phone, the lack of internal storage space. SD card can't help you if you can't even use the device because it's out of memory.
I've moved almost every app I have to SD card, still no use, and I only have a handful installed whereas on any other device I had about 5 times as many apps.
Would it really have killed them to put 8GB in this thing?
So, no I wouldn't choose this device again.
NEVER!
Nope. NEVER AGAIN!! A smartphone with no storage = basically a flip phone with a color screen. Waste of my money and time and the BIGGEST rip off ever!

I agree, unfortunately im stuck with it. It was my one shot at a phone and it looked awesome though I do work with tech a lot I do not mess with phones at all. So I got this and am currently desperate for a rom that can trim up this memory the on board storage gives you about 300MB after fresh install and updates. This is useless even with 30gb flash card. I have managed to unlock and root it just fine but mine is HTC 510 boost so not I am hoping they make a rom for this that works on my phone until then I am removing as much as I can but these apps do not do much to free up space. if anyone has any info I could use some As I said phones are not my thing.
I agree with dipspit.
Initially I was dismayed over the lack of space on this phone, however I purchased it at a good price and it was a definite upgrade (spec wise) compared to my old device. In all honesty even without the support this device has received from a few members here I still would purchase this again.
It's just an added benefit to have some wonderful members here who are doing all they can to make this phone awesome.
I was considering to buy this phone to my wife instead of her Desire HD. And the best thing about it was a 4G in it, but after reading all your posts I think I will go find something else. One more thing was stopping me from really buying it - 1G of RAM. I don't think it's really enough this days.
The 1GB ram is not a problem. I've since switched to a Moto G 2nd Gen. and with 1GB ram it runs smooth. I love the new Moto G and it's quite affordable, I recommend it.
The storage is the main issue on the Desire 510.
Never!
Its very sh!t phone,slow,very sh!t screen,etc...
My Xperia SP with 2 cores much better and faster
Just bought it as a temp phone till I figure out what phone to get. Besides the crappy screen and camera. It's fairly smooth for a midgrade phone.
Hmm...well I did get this phone for free. Although it does perform much better than my old phone the HTC One SV, the camera isn't as good as the SV (which I really miss). I'm used to phones not having very much development. My first smartphone was a Samsung Admire, then an LG Optimus C. Then the SV and now this. They didn't have much developing, but it was never disappointing. If I could get this phone for free I would. But if I had a chance to buy another phone and had the money, I definitely would. This gave me a taste of Sense 6 and the performance of HTC phones. I've never had it lag while casually using it. Although I do get some crashes, but that's what I get for messing with some of the system's files in order to perform much better.
Overall it's a good phone for performance and gave me a taste of Sense 6. The space isn't much of an issue for me. I've never ran out of memory space.
I love HTC phones and I would get it again if it was free again, but if I had money I would buy the M8 instead (or the upcoming M9)
If anyone was concerned about space, all they would have to do is buy a memory card.

Not sure where you are from but I don't think you need to unlock a P20 Pro to accept any sim card, at least not the C432 European Version. They work with any provider sim card. What do you mean with your question about USB SD card readers? Of course you can connect a sd card reader via USB C to the phone and also to your mac. I do my backups on an usb C card reader. Also, the phone works nicely with the mac, all my photos get synched to the photos app. I use Android File Transfer for mac to browse the phone. Much easier and more control over your files than with an iPhone.
Most bloatware apps can be uninstalled right on the phone or via adb. And the Android 9 is coming quite soon.

Hey mate. EE will provide you with a sim unlock code after 6 months of contract. Don't bother looking elsewhere for a code as it will, more likely, not work before then.
Regarding the bloatware try not uninstall system apps, apart from that you should be able to use huawei multi tool from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/tool-huawei-multi-tool-team-mt-t3523923.
Update to Android pie will take a while or maybe longer.
