When I first got my 2x I had no problems with a dismounting SD card. But recently it has started to happen and generally when the phone reboots on its own and such. When it then comes back online it has dumped the External SD card and I am either forced to peel off the cover and then disconnect and reconnect the card.
Or simply reboot manually and go from there. Either of the 2 methods remounts the card, but I am simply at a loss as to what causes the phone to dump it the first time around.
Anyone got any ideas or tips on this?
Tried with different cards?
I have not experienced this whatsoever. I'm using Transcend 8 GB class 6.
I don't really have a huge choice of cards considering the one I am using is a 16 gig one . And it worked juts fine in the HTC Desire I had before the LG.
And it worked fine in the beginning, with the LG. The phone only started being a bit retarded about it a week or 2 ago >_<
I've had the exact same problem. No idea when/why it happens :<
Same here...
And same here, started a couple of days ago.
I would try to format the card with SD Formatter from Panasonic. Do a Google search. I works real good.
I notice this problem only happens to me if I restart the phone using an app (or via clockwork). I have resigned myself to no longer restarting but to instead, shutdown the phone and manually powering it on again..

Please add your support to the thread over at MoDaCo about Paul's reboot app then...
Same happened to me last night. I've had my Optimus 2X for 5 weeks now, never had any spontaneous reboots, it was quite stable actually. Last night I mounted an 8 GB Kensington external SD for the first time on this phone, with some music and videos on it. After booting up, everything worked perfectly. Then, I went listening to songs via YouTube. All of a sudden, nothing but a very loud humming, which continued after I removed and put back the earphone plug. And then, the phone rebooted by itself, for the first time. After it had rebooted, the external SD was still visible using AndroZip, but it was empty! I was pissed off and went to sleep. Just now, I shut off the phone and started it again, and the external SD is back, with all the stuff I put on it last night. So this incident kind of freaked me out. I mean, the 2X isn't what you call a low-end, cheap phone, is it?
same problem here
Did this happen to anyone on stock rom or could the issue be related to a custom rom?
I have been using a class 6 16GB sdcard (unbranded from a reliable seller @ ebay) for about 2 weeks and did not encounter such error, but I am still on stock rom.

Didnt have it on stock, so it could be a custom rom problem, though i had it on fr17 and cm7 and everything based on that. Seeing as fr 17, if im correct, uses stock as a base it should be possible to happen on stock aswell. Someone correct me if im wrong though

sometimes i also have the mount problem, also in recovery ...
a reboot helps in most cases, sometime it needs 2 ...
i also notified that software reboot to recovery (with an app, o2x reboot) causes mounting problems of sd card more often than rebooting with magic keys ...
but it´s not happening regularly, so i can live with that ...
i had it twice on stock, but in a month's time, so it isn't so frequent fortunately
I have the problem on stock rom and if I do a restart... The phone gets hot where the sd card is once loaded back up. Its shows as Unavailable in SD & Phone Storage and have to then just switch the phone off/on and it shows up again. Strange!.
It must be something to do with a soft reset!....
has anyone figured out a solution to this problem yet?
I was about to start a new thread on this prob, luckily i saw this 1st. I also face this prob. My class4 16gb sd card sometimes become unavailable without any notice. Any solutions?

have you guys tried to format the card ? i hear that fixes it for lg optimus one/s/v and so on which also has severe mount unmount issues (also optimus s got an update from sprint which resovled it)

A couple of days ago my dad got my sister and me nook colors. I installed honeycomb which ran off the sd card on both and rooted both. I was tired of not having YouTube flash and many other apps so I tried out froyo and cm7. After about 50 unsuccessful installs I have decided I must have a hardware problem because they will run on my sisters nook.
The problem is that after the install, it boots off the sd card and loads android completely but when it asks to complete with setup wizard or
Default action it freezes up for a second and shuts off. After I boot again it just says "Powering Down."
I don't know if I should try a native install or go return this one. I already restored it completely to factory conditions so they won't be able to tell. I have searched everywhere and cannot find this anywhere else (problem or solution).
I just find it so strange how it works on the other nook color but not mine. Even setting it up on hers and moving it to mine produces the same issue. I probably will return it unless someone can help me but I'm more curious to what the problem is than how to fix it, since I can simply go get a new one.
Any help is appreciated!
****bump****
Thats certainly a new one. I only have one nook so ive never tried them side by side. Ive never been able too successfully boot off an sd card and have it stable. I eventually just decided to go to cm7 internal and never looked back. I wonder if theres something different in the nook in how it reads from the sd card.
are you overclocking the image? or running it stock?
you said you set it up on your sisters nook then move it to yours and you have problems. did you try taking her good, working build and moving that sd card to your nook and seeing if the problems go away. Ive read alot about sd cards and different quality's of cards. maybe theres something up with the sd card you have.
I have problems no matter what. If i put it on hers to setup, it still has the problem. If i set it up on mine, still has the problem. I just tried phiremod v6.1 and it also had the problem (i expected this because it is still cm7). I probably will return it but i wish they would just update these things to android 2.2/2.3 and maybe even full honeycomb when it comes out and save all of us from these issues.
The image is the normal one. I have tried installing directly to the sd, using the "SD CARD TEMPLATE" files that you install and then boot from to install cm7, etc.
They all work on the other nook but mine is being stubborn for some reason.
I am at the airport getting ready to fly home and i might try installing it internally tomorrow. I just don't want to have this problem again and have to spend a bunch of time reinstalling the stock rom to return it.
I completely understand your frustration, especially since you have 2 and are not seeing the same thing on both. Are you experiencing any other problems with the device. based on what your telling me i would have to assume there is something wrong with the sd card slot.
but if you forget about your sisters nook for a min, what you are describing is exactly what i experienced on my nook. that's why i went for internal. I started with the dual boot, but found that i stopped using the stock rom pretty quickly, and with the slow ports of cm7 to dual boot, i just scrapped dual booting all together, and now im full cm7 and its great.

I tried the internal install, but it is doing the same thing. I am recovering the stock image right now. Thanks for the help, but I am just going to take it back and get a new one and not root it or anything and just install it to the sd card.
I have the same problem too.
I have been running CM7 off of my SD card for several weeks now, and it has been working very smoothly -- virtually no problems.
Today I installed the updated Barnes & Noble Nook app. It worked fine the first couple of times, but now every time I try to launch it I get the message:
"The application has stopped unexpectedly, please try again."
Then I am given the option to force close or report. The problem is that this is now happening with the majority of my apps. They are refusing to open. When I try to use any of my browsers, they open and shut in the blink of an eye.
The only two apps that appear to be working OK are Market and YouTube.
I tried rebooting, but that didn't fix anything.
Also, my Nook is showing a very low wifi signal, while at the same time my iPod Touch shows a strong signal.
Anybody have any ideas on how I can clear this all up? Is there any troubleshooting app I can run? Thanks.
Update: Market doesn't work now either. I can open it up, but it crashes when I try to download anything.
Dunno if it would cause this... but did you recently modify your build.prop file to install Netflix? If so, restore the original file, reboot, and see if it helps.
It could be oxidation on the microSD card connectors...
I have been messing around with Android on SD for some time, and I don't know what kind of microSD you are using but some of mine require periodic cleaning of the card edge connectors.
Just yesterday, one card I had started with the FCs and crashes and after cleaning the edge connectors it is working fine again.
I dunno, but that is what works for me...

Thanks for your suggestion. I took the card out and cleaned the contacts, but everything is still acting flaky. I tried to uninstall the nook app, which is the last thing I installed before everything started going haywire, but it force closes and won't let me uninstall it.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to wipe my sd card clean and reinstall CM7 all over again if somebody can't come up with a solution.
I have the market Nook app installed here on the 2.6.32 Beta 3.1, no problems..

Yeah, I really don't think it's the nook app that's causing all these problems, but what is? CM7 was working beautifully with no problems until today. Now, everything is force closing on me.
Probably somewhere down the line, corrupted SD card. Not all CM7/SD card installs play well, especially if you're using a Class 6/10 card as they have piss poor random small block writes. Read this thread:

Wow, that's pretty amazing. Thanks. I am using a Class 6 card, thinking that it would be better. Who knew?
Do you have Bluetooth turned on? My FCs stopped when I turned it off.
I was having a problem with a lot of force closes as well and it ended up being the SD card. Started off with a Transcend Class 6. Force closes all the time. Then tried a Sandisk Class 4. Runs smooth. The difference was night and day.

How could this be?
I have two Transcend 8GB Class 6 SD cards. On one of them I have froyo, on the other is CM7.
Yesterday, the CM7 card started going wacky, locking up or force closing practically every application I tried. I rebooted, but that didn't help.
Well, I turned my Nook off, took out the CM7 card and popped in the froyo card. I then powered up. Now the froyo card is acting the same way as the CM7 card did.
How could this be? Is this just a coincidence, or is something internally in the Nook causing this? I mean, before yesterday, both cards were working fine, and then one day they both go bad? Hmmmmm?

I at one point actually got something inside my microSD card slot, but I didn't know it until it got on my microSD card and came out...
Maybe the connectors inside your Nook need cleaning...
I am gonna scrape up some change and buy a 4GB CL4 card from the 'shack' and see how CM7 likes it...
On a side note, does anyone have a life expectancy for microSD cards that have Android run off of them?
Not to knock the SD, but not goto eMMC, then you wouldn't have to worry about bad SD card connections. There are plenty ways to go back to stock. I could see using SD for a beta test, of course that's just my opinion.

Well, I got my nook back in March, didn't have any problems then. And haven't played with a newer one, mine was simple.
I'd been experiencing significant lag on my Note 4 since I bought it back in October. It seemed to have been getting worse over the months, until - as a big fan of the Note series - I was embarrassed for other people to see how poor the performance was.
The problem pervaded most functions, including launching apps, scrolling across my home screens, launching the running apps selector, etc. And by lag I mean a pause of up to 5 seconds.
In addition, occasionally the phone would unmount then remount my SanDisk Ultra SD card. I thought this problem was unconnected.
Yesterday after getting to the point where I'd reluctantly decided never to buy another Samsung phone, I tried removing my SD card. Immediately and ever since, my phone has been performing beautifully. Almost no lag at all, for the first time since I bought it.
I can't find this topic on the Note 4 forum, which surprised me. Am I the only one to have encountered this problem? Or maybe I'm the only idiot who would take seven months to realise the SD card might be causing a general performance problem...
I get lags. I didn't realise it could be the sd card. Let give that a try

If the phone was mounting and remounting the sd-card your sd-card might be broken, causing the mediascanner to constantly scan your items in the background causing slowdowns. Have you tried formatting the sd-card on a PC/Mac to exfat? If you still face issues then it could be that either the card itself or microSD slot is broken.
My laziness dictates that I ditch the SD card
To be honest, the lag was the big problem and I can do without the extra SD storage.
Try changing your sd card. I'm using 32gb external sd card and never have experienced any slow down due to its use.

I've had the LG G8 for a few days now. Right out of the box apps (including even the settings menu) seemed to be locking up. I downloaded a small update right after a factory reset. It seemed to have fixed it for a while, but it's happening again. I try and open an app, and am met with a blank screen or the pre-loading icon/screen for the application.
This was happening with the stock launcher and using a custom launcher (lightning launcher). I do not have any cache cleaning applications other than the stock one that is in the settings menu.
Is anyone else having issues with applications freezing when you attempt to open them? Does anyone have a fix? Seems like it's an issue directly with the device, maybe something to do with the dalvik cache?
I should add that sometimes the apps never load fully and just crash.
I've had the G8 for a couple days. I have yet to experience what you're describing. I ported most of my apps using an otg cable and LG Switch. Everything seems to still run like it did on my G5. Hope you get it sorted out.
My G5 wasn't rooted. And I don't think I'll be rooting this phone either.

Yeah. I'm not sure what's going on. I went from the G6 to iPhone and very quickly back to Android. It's really frustrating considering that when apps work... They WORK. This is a great device, but I'd really like to know why it's doing this to me.

For anyone who reads this thread...
I called LG. Apparently I'm the first to report this. I'm a Certified Windows Tech so I'm pretty techy. I've also did some Android development and of course dabbled with rooting. So I'm no dummy.
LG tried to tell me to factory reset. I've done that. So they "submit a ticket" to their engineering department.
This morning I had my wife install Blades and run it. It loads up fine. Runs great. She also hasn't had any problems like I've seen apparently.
So I went to my local Sprint. They had no G8s in stock. There's one left in the whole city. One of their sales guys is driving to go get it now. I'll write here again if I see the same troubles with the next G8S, but I'm betting I won't. It really seems to be something with the dalvik or RAM.

Another hopefully helpful update:
The new device had the same issue! But... I removed my SD card after thinking about how many files were on it. Without the SD card, the G8 works wonderfully!
I'm now formatting the SD card. It's 128 GB and I'm not doing a quick format. Hopefully it's not something to do with the actual size of the card, and was actually the file system having trouble reading when so many large (and small) files were on it.

It was simply a corrupt SD card. The card was locked read only and neither windows or android could format it. Stuck another fresh one in I had on hand in, everything works fine. So lesson learned. A corrupt SD card can cause apps to mess up. Didn't know that. /Shrug

I had the same crashing issue. Mine was also the SD card. Must have happened when moving it from my Samsung to my LG. Everything worked perfectly fine in my old phone, but the card didn't fit quite right into the slot on the LG phone, and seemed I forced it in. Now, I get the crashes. I pulled it out and put it back in my old phone, and I can see everything on the card normally. However, now it is set in Read Only. I will buy a new SD card for my new phone and see if I can do a transfer of the data.
