[Q] can you install clockworkmod after updating to 2.3.4?

i had a nexus one and was able to unlock the bootloader but i think i updated it to 2.3.4 and then tried to install CWM, which didn't work. i then discovered the antenna was not working correctly so i had to exchange the phone for another new one. once i get my new nexus one i was still thinking about installing CM7 and i just want to get some things straight about 2.3.4 and installing clockworkmod recovery.
will i be able to install CWM after i update my nexus one to stock 2.3.4? if not what is the highest stock build i would be able to do it with?
concerning the radio, if it is not possible to update to 2.3.4 and then install CWM i guess i'd have to update the radio by itself right?

You can unlock the bootloader and install cwm, or you can revert to an earlier version of Android, root, and then install cwm...

so i guess it's not possible to root and install CWM on 2.3.4? what's the latest version of android i would have to revert to for rooting and installing CWM?

There is no exploit for 2.3.4, so there is no easy root...
To downgrade, you have to do the passimg with a shipped image, and the most recent is FRG33. However, once rooted you can update all the way to 2.3.4 and keep root, if you do things in the right order...
You could also update to 2.3.3 and root and update to 2.3.4 keeping root - but the end result is the same...

You can also root 2.3.4 after unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom recovery. From there, you would need to flash one of the su.zip files floating around (you may need a specific one for Gingerbread), which should remove the stock recovery checks (what replaces the custom recovery when you boot a stock install) and should add the necessary files for root access.

the first nexus one i received was on 2.2.1 so i guess if i plan on installing CM7 i should just keep in there and not bother upgrading anything (maybe the radio only)? just want to make sure where i stand so someone could help me accomplish these things. i know how to unlock the bootloader and i think i'll be fine installing CWM so what order should i:
unlock the bootloader
upgrade the radio (i guess i don't have to do this if i upgrade to 2.3.4)
install CWM
root
upgrade to 2.3.4
install CM7
i'm just making sure i know what i'm doing before i get my replacement nexus one and while i have attempted searching for answers i haven't been able to find the specific order or answer to my question. if anyone can correct any mistakes or assumptions i've been making please let me know.

If you are unlocking the bootloader, there is no need to root the current android install. The whole point of rooting the phone is so you can get the custom recovery on there so you can load CM on the phone. Since you are unlocking the bootloader, you can load the custom recovery using fastboot, then boot into it, wipe the phone and flash CM (and gapps).
And if it is a replacement, it will most likely be running the 5.08 radio, which seems to be the best one for Gingerbread.
So it would be:
Unlock bootloader
flash clockworkmod
boot clockworkmod (select the bootloader screen and then recovery, don't reboot)
wipe phone
flash CM and gapps
reboot
????
profit

You don't need to upgrade to 2.3.4 unless you want to upgrade the radio and hboot. Of course, you can upgrade them without updating the OS, though upgrading them with OS will be safer.

ok, now that i know that installing CM7 will root my phone if i do it by unlocking the bootloader and installing CWM i am wondering if my phone will be rooted once i restore my nandroid backup that i will make (of stock 2.3.4 android) right before i install CM7?

No. Root is separate from unlocking your bootloader and whatever recovery you are running. Root is at the OS level. Most custom firmwares come pre-rooted. That is, they contain the software needed to allow you to escalate your priveledges to root level. Stock firmwares, do not have this additional software, and anytime you get an update for stock, it will replace everything you had with your previous install, which will make you lose root if you had it.
So, if you install CM7, it will be rooted, but if you restore your stock 2.3.4, it will become unrooted (because it was unrooted when you made the backup).
What is your final plan for software on the phone? Stock 2.3.4, stock 2.3.4 with root, CM7? What is the point of restoring your nandroid of 2.3.4?

I have rooted my device which is running 4.3 (c5502) (build number: . 101) with towelroot. Now i need to install any custom ROM. I came to know that it requires to install recovery first before flash any ROM. I stuck there..Can you please guide me. I didn't unlock my bootloader yet but I had my TA backup with me.Thanks in advance guys.

whatever u need to know is already there. just search for it. if u expect to be spoonfed then you really shouldn't mess with your phone

The thing is, do we really need to unlock boot loader to flash custom roms, or can it be closed just with root and recovery?

Yes for flashing custom Roms the bootloader must be unlocked and a recovery must be installed however if you want to flash a stock based Rom unlocked boot loader is not needed. Just Root and Recovery needed for flashing the stock based Roms. Correct me if i am wrong.

Question about flashing 6.0

Hey guys, sorry if this has been answered prior (I couldn't find a thread about it).
I just bought a new Nexus 6 off Swappa, and I'm currently using it on T-Mobile.
The build number is LVY47H on 5.1, which I've read is a Project Fi build.
I'm wanting to flash up to 6.0, and my question is: do I have to first flash up to 5.1.1, or can I go straight from my current build to the 6.0 factory images?
I've done a ton of rooting and flashing with Samsung devices, so I'm familiar with most things, but not entirely sure what to do with a Nexus device.

You can flash the latest Factory image. You will notice that the flashall.bat will only flash bootloader and radio. The other files needs to be extracted and flashed manually with fastboot. Than rooting needs a modified kernel, supersu 2.5x and twrp recovery.
MM 6.0 stock kernel sets selinux enforcing and that may cause issues with apps not updated yet for MM.
The best method is (imo) after flashing m-bootloader and m-radio: flash a custom rom that is already rooted.

To Install a Custom Rom Safely, Plzz Help ... :D

I own a Motorola Moto g2 (2014) Indian Version, 16 gb and i am running a stock firmware 5.0.2, rooted and bootloader unlocked. and i want to install a Custom ROM, So i went on to Youtube and find out how to unlock the bootloader and install Super SU.
After that i came to know about this site, and thought of flashing CM 13, and so in order to do that it was required to update bootloader, since it won't work on bootloader 4.4
So, i followed the instructions clearly and updated the bootloader and the TWRP Recovery , Both are successfull.
Now comes the problem part for me:
So when i browsed the xda developers site in the moto g 2014 thread , i came across this post:

so, i got afraid, since i am going to install cm 13 nightly which is unstable and the bootloader already updated, will i be having problems when i restore it back to stock 5.0.2
and would it be safe if i installed cm 12.1 after updating the booloader or will it hard brick my phone. (since cm 12.1 is stable version compared to cm 13)
P.S Can someone post a link on how to backup before installing the Custom ROM, since i always see this step:
that is to make a backup using TWRP and then use advanced wipe to wipe the device, the only question is won't the adavanced wipe deletes the backup folder ?
And Is there any stable ROMS for moto g that runs marshmallow, + is it possible to install multi ROM twrp and Install CM 13 Along with the Stock Android

A few Questions from a Noobie

Hi, im new to Note 5 Dev. and been out of the loop since it was released. i had a Sony Xperia play and a Galaxy s3 before and know how to do the basic stuff to do custom roms and flash stuff etc. to those Phones. But a Note 5 is different, running on Lollipop, having EFS partition stuff and OEM unlock Stuff. i just want to ask a few questions to make sure i don't do something stupid (i already did some of the research for answers on some of this for a few days now and some are Informative and Awesome, but a little outdated) so tnx in advance kind People :fingers-crossed:
My Device: SM-N920C (UAE)
Android Ver: 5.1.1 (Lollipop) Stock
Questions:
1.) Can i Revert back to 5.1.1 (lollipop) stock/ [Downgrade] , IF i decided to update to Nougat Stock?? (just curious ) and if yes, can you kindly link me to a process? if not, then that's fine too :laugh:
2.) Do you have to Enable OEM unlock if Updating Stock (in my case Nougat)??
I red somewhere on Magisk thread here on XDA that it can Grant Root Access to 5.0+ . If so, installing TWRP and Flashing Magisk on 5.1.1 involves Enabling USB Debugging and OEM Unlock.
3.) Do i have to Enable OEM Unlock Forever now? cause i saw some threads says that if you disable it, you will have a bootloop or a soft brick and will have to Flash Stock again and repeat. (don't really have a problem with it being Enabled, but the other people in Tutorials , Vid. Tutorials and Thread Posts just mentions "Enable it". And never really says after the process is done u can Disable it and stuff.), just want to have that information, cause i Understand that OEM is a LOCK that Even if someone steals your phone and has a lock in it. they can't just Flash a Stock Rom on it to Unlock it. 1)If you flash stock 7.0 on your device if available then its hard to revert to back to stock 5.1.1 as there is thread in Question&Answers section about downgrading from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 but many are unsuccessful(I have successfully downgraded from 7.0 to 6.0.1 but Cant confirm about 5.1.1 as google has changed many security policies in updates versions like 6.0.1 or 7.0 which will block your bootloader to downgrade easily/Issue you will face like lossing of baseband or corrupt imei which will block you from receiving network signal)
2)Yes its very important to enable Oem unlock and usb debugging while flashing any stock firmware using odin to avoid DM-Verity/SW Check Fail/Custom Binary blocked by FRP like issues which are hard to solve enough OR you will might hard brick your device which will be difficult to make it live again( AFAIK to flash TWRP or Any root access using odin there is instruction to enable Oem Unlock before flashing always remember it as a essential step before flashing anything using odin)
3)Yes once you enable Oem unlock for purpose of modification of your device, it needs to be unlocked or even its enabled by default to overcome reported issue like infinite bootloop or Many i mentioned in my 2nd Post And Oem unlock allows your bootloader to be customised by flashing mods or roms which is by default locked so that you could not easily modify your device as well as to avoid further modification issues
4)If you choose to stay at 5.1.1 and rooted your device with installed TWRP then yes you can unroot it by flashing 5.1.1 using odin( In case your on 6.0.1 or Even on 7.0 you can unroot your device with the same process but here to remind you that you need to flash stock 6.0.1 or 7.0 respectively version on which you rooted your device So if you will try to unroot it by flashing 5.1.1 again while your on 7.0 rooted device then again here downgrade issue which will probably give you mentioned error as a result)
5)To use custom nougat based roms or any S8+ port based on 7.0 you should atleast upgrade your bootloader and modem to 6.0.1( If your rooted on 5.1.1 and try installing nougat roms then your device will not boot as your using old bootloader, so upgrade bootloader or modem either to 6.0.1 or you can update whole system to 7.0>root>install TWRP>flash custom nougat based roms or s8+ ports afterall choice is your as if you want to upgrade only BL and Modem to 6.0.1 or want to upgrade system with BL and Modem to 7.0, i will mention here is BL and Modem for 7.0 are also available to flash you can find those on dr.ketan rom n10 installation instruction section in Samsung galaxy note 5>Android development>Dr.ketan Rom N10 instead of whole system update but Flashing Stock full firmware is always recommended for good reception and avoid glitches)

~Ooh!! i have a follow up question regarding your Answer to the 4th question. Can i also flash other Countries Stock firmware?? for example: mine is Stock 5.1.1 [UAE] can i flash Stock 5.1.1 [USA] or other Country variants?? [of course unlocked bootloader] , i searched again here for people who did that and for some reason they encounter Errors and Unable to revert back to their Original Stock Firmwares.
