When marshmellow comes out will anyone from here be working on an exploit for root? Is it just down to the locked boot loader or with a whole new OS is it possible for a new exploit to arise.
I'm not really sure if there will be ANY more development for this device.
All we can do is wait and see.
The only way I can see an exploit is if the one that was found for the AT&T galaxy s6 is made to work for ours.
i thought we were supposed to get marshmallow by now or today at least.

if you had the device from the get go you would have been able to take advantage of the exploit/root and development..
unfortunately with root only available on 5.0.2 development seems dead

I don't think anyone really knows.
We can only hope.
I just really hope that work does get done. I don't want to find out that my less than a year old phone, that I got last August, is already getting kicked to the side of the road, and then driven over because development of root was harder than for other phones.

My only real concern is because of the boot loader lock down by Verizon is just going to shut down all development. There has to be a way to unlock the boot loader or there has to be an exploit found for us to get a root.

bootloaders have always been locked by samsung but vzw prevents us from unlocking it.. regardless its been this way for a while even on the s4 and prior.. nothing new.. MM doesnt really have much to do with it.. doesnt change the fact some bright person still needs to find an exploit to even root as always and i no longer expect bl unlocks on Sammy devices with Verizon

The only problem with MM is that a patched kernel is required for root or the device won't boot, trusted boot. So without an unlocked bootloader, no modified kernel will pass through this device. Unless an exploiter triumphs a new level.

sounds about right.. isnt this why chainfire now uses systemless root?
Sent from my SM-G925V using XDA-Developers mobile app
Well I think systemless root started as being a way to avoid problems with OTA updates failing because of modified system partition and also keeping Android pay working, then progressed to see it seems to me the most streamlined method. But as far as root goes he's made the installer patch the boot.img, disable forced encryption, and install in systemless mode. I went ahead and took the update because I'm fairly confident no one will feel like attempting a bootloader exploit for the S6. I just do all my tinkering on my 6p.

Still incorrect... they do not have flashable kernels on the AT&T S4 post MDL.

You can't pull recovery without root on your device, the only thing we ATT users can do is wait for Samsung to post the firmware which they havent, SM-G900A is the ATT model number, Tmo and Sprint are already up so they already have root.

Keep in mind guys that if the ATT BL is locked chances are CF Root will fail to flash or boot even if CF builds one for ATT...also if this happens knox warranty is tripped leaving you without warranty coverage and no root...likely a new KK exploit will have to be found...hope I'm wrong about the BL as I'd like to get rid of bloat before handing the phone off to GF..

there might not be any other way; after all, 5.0 encrypts your entire phone, so one could assume the bootloader has to be locked for that to happen..

Just be sure to read the posts about s-health and private mode. If you can, don't use s-health until after you root and if you plan on using it, disable secure storage in wanam. Otherwise you're going to get some annoying lag.
Also if you're going to flash a custom ROM and want to use the fingerprint scanner, make sure you use the scanner on the stock ROM first. Folks are having issues on custom ROMs if they've never used the scanner beforehand.

If your on 4.4.2 then towel root should work. If it don't then just download the NCE downgrade file from the OP of that same thread and flash using the AP slot in odin 3.09 then use towel root again. I have used that downgrade file and total root numerous times. If your on 5.0 them don't use any of it as it will not work.

Sort of related, but I have an S5 on 4.4.4. I know I will need to downgrade temporally to perform the rooting process (no big deal, I had to do manual tweaking on my DROID 4 during its rooting process), but at this time my phone is unlocked (g900a). Will the process listed in muniz_ri's tutorial ruin the phone's unlocked state? I've never dealt with GSM stuff so this is all new to me.

I installed the update yesterday and overall my phone runs MUCH better, multitasking is greatly improved and I've noticed I typically have much lower system ram usage than I had previously on 5.0.2. I did turn on Enhanced LTE and it still is draining my battery by quite a bit, I went to sleep last night at 59% and woke up at 36%, battery manager listed Cell Standby at 31% battery used. I also tried and was unable to enable UHQ Upscaler audio, not sure why that's the case. The option is simply greyed out.
