Hi guys.
I have been trying to get the HS-USB diag/modem ports enabled on my newly acquired HTC One Mini 2.
I read on the internet that i would have to root the device in order to accomplish this.
So I decided to give it a go!
> I have HTC Sync Manager installed on my Windows 10 PC
> I downloaded the TWRP recovery image
> I downloaded SuperSU
> I successfully unlocked the bootloader
> I installed TWRP Recovery like so:
in command prompt i typed - fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-m4.img <Enter>
sending 'recovery' (11460 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.448s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.492s]
finished. total time: 2.103s
This is where it gets confusing. According to the instructions i am supposed to highlight Bootloader on the device and select Power. But on the device i am still in the Bootloader menu and there is no option for BOOTLOADER. Therefore i am not able to boot into TWRP.
All i see on the device is the following:
FASTBOOT USB
<VOL UP> to previous item
<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER>
HBOOT
RAMDUMP
REBOOT
REBOOT FASTBOOT
POWER DOWN
What do i do now? There is no option for BOOTLOADER and cannot boot into TWRP.
Not sure if I am searching using the right words, but I checked the forum and cannot find a solution.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

if not entering then its messed up . flash it again with new file or try different version.
+1 to Ktivity, you are already in bootloader, with losts of stuff ya shouldnt mess with, just click Hboot, then recovery.
BTW, what is the simlock option for, does that lock the sim??, scared to press it lmao.

It does not do anything unless you have just the correct files in your SD card that define the network and so on. Only service centers and network providers have such files.
Silly me lol
I selected HBOOT then RECOVERY but it goes back to the bootloader menu??
I have already re-flashed it. I guess i will have to find another file to flash.
Thanks for the advice guys
OK guys.
I flashed a different version of TWRP img file and it still does not boot into TWRP?
I noticed something else. When i select HBOOT, for around a two seconds several lines of info are displayed:
SD Checking...
No gift file...
Loading...[0P8BDIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[0P8BDIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[0P8BIMG.zip]
Loading...[0P8BIMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
I pasted a copy of the TWRP img file in the root of my SD card. But still it comes back to Bootloader??
Not sure what to do now?
Any advice guys, please?
Hi guys.
Still not able to load into TWRP. I briefly get the following info:

Can anyone help please?

You are flashing the wrong recovery. Considering the m4 at the end of the image name, this is for the One Mini not the One Mini 2. Which is why you are not able to boot into TWRP.
Get the correct image from here
Hi csoulr666.
Thank you for your reply.
I downloaded the image from the link you kindly provided - recovery-twrp-2.8.5.0.img
When i issue the command fastboot boot recovery-twrp-2.8.5.0.img i get the following response
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.489s]
booting...
OKAY [ 0.004s]
finished. total time: 1.499s
Then the device reboots into the standard htc home screen and NOT into twrp. At this point the USB cable is still attached to the device and PC. Not sure if this has any bearing on the normal boot??
I performed the above steps several times, but still the device boots up to htc home screen and not twrp.
In bootloader, i also selected HBOOT, i briefly get the following info:
SD Checking...
No gift file...
Loading...[0P8BDIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[0P8BDIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[0P8BIMG.zip]
Loading...[0P8BIMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
i then select RECOVERY, however the device stays in bootloader??
Very frustrating to say the least.
Am i missing something else?
Thanks for the advice up until now.
P.S please excuse me, i am a newbie so not that much familiar with rooting.
Cheers.

if you dont want keep seeing this just remove SDCard while you performing the actions.
try this recovery instead
its normal the device boot into the rom unless you press the buttons to get into bootloader.
Brilliant.
I finally got into twrp with this recovery provided by kativiti. I have now successfully flashed supersu zip.
Wow that took some doing.
OK so now i need to find a suitable ROM that will help me answer my initial query, Enabling HS USB Diagnostic port. I was able to enable the hs usb diagnostic port on a Samsung just by installing Kies software. But was not able to get the hs usb diagnostic port enabled for several rooted Sony devices. I guess all the custom ROMs will do that?
Anyway I really appreciate the assistance i've had from all you guys.
Cheers and big thank you.

not sure what you asking and for what but after a search i found this:
open command prompt and type
adb devices (if your device shows continue)
adb shell
su -c 'setprop sys.usb.config diag,adb'
nothing happened on mine but i don't have HTC drivers installed. All you need in here
Hi kativiti.
Yes, this is exactly the adb setprop command i'm sending but nothing is happening. Usually, after issuing this command in device manager on my windows pc, new ports open up with exclamation marks and then either windows installs the drivers automatically or I have to do it manually. Only then I should see the newly installed HS USB diag port. I also noticed that the setprop command has different variations, therefore i am looking at tweeking the command. Back to the net i go.....
Previously, I was able to enable HS USB diag port using the above adb command on the Xperia Z and Samsung Mini S4. But I've not been able to activate HS USB on Xperia Z3 and now HTC One Mini 2. I was under the impression that if I rooted and flashed a custom rom onto the HTC One Mini 2, all developer features would be automatically available, especially the HS USB diag port??
To compound the misery, after much reading on rooting and flashing for HTC One Mini 2, I flashed cm-NostromoPop-v2.0-20150430-1330-memul.zip and open_gapps-arm-5.0-nano-20160401.zip. Thankfully the device is not bricked. However, now i get the following problems
When accessing Google Play Store - 'Check your connection and try again'
'Google Play Services won't run...' message repeatedly appears
I cannot boot into twrp recovery so that i can flash another rom
I read on the net that installing the wrong GApps file produces the above google problems? Could i have installed the incorrect GApps file?? Not sure how to verify this? Could the rom i installed be incorrect?
And what can i do to get into twrp recovery again? Not even the twrp recovery image i earlier flashed and successfully booted into has helped this time.
I am rigorously searching the net for answers, to no avail thus far.
Ahh the joy of messing with a phone. I'm very tired but will keep trying lol
Any help would be warmly welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

OK so i cleared the cache through adb (fastboot erase cache)
i then successfully flashed twrp recovery. However, instead of the device rebooting to twrp recovery, all i see on the device is the cyanogenmod icon with a circle gradually appearing and disappearing around it.
I have attached a number of photos in sequence (DSC_000009.jpg, DSC_000010.jpg, DSC_000011.jpg, DSC_000012.jpg) showing the circle around the cyanogenmod icon.
Why has this cyanogenmod icon appeared? Is cyanogenmod updating? Or is the device bricked?
Also, is this the link for the official downloads - https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Devices
Appreciate your advice please.
Thanks again.

OK i did a little trial and error:
I simultaneously pressed the power and vol down button, however device did NOT boot into bootloader
I then simultaneously pressed the power and vol up button and device rebooted, but then went back into boot loop
Finally i simultaneously pressed power and vol up button and device started to reboot (screen went blank) and i immediately pressed vol down button, now it booted into bootloader
I then selected HBOOT > RECOVERY and it booted back into bootloader
So i decided to flash twrp recovery when in bootloader and again it went into boot loop
Unfortunately i am back to square one - in bootloader
I can now boot only into bootloader and not to normal UI. So i guess the rom is corrupt.
It's probably a silly question - Is there a way to install custom rom through ADB??
Thanks again

OK so after much fretting i managed to get my device working.
I managed to boot into bootloader and then flashed an earlier version of twrp and it immediately booted into recovery.
From here i wiped cache, system...... and then installed CM12 with corresponding GApps.
Device now working...PHEW!
OK so now back to trying to get HS USB port activated using ADB commands, which i am trawling the net to find. I just don't understand why it is possible to activate HS USB port in Windows for Samsung and Sony, but not on this HTC One Mini 2?? The ADB setprop command you listed earlier is usually the one that triggers windows to open up the HS USB Diagnostics port, but it is not happening with this HTC One Mini 2? Anyway, i'll keep checking the net.
I have added an image just to show what it is i am trying to activate - Qualcomm HS USB Diagnostics Interface Port
Once again many thanks for your assistance kativiti.

I need some help here.
Power button broke on my n1 sometime ago. Recently I tried to flash a new kernel but forgot to wipe and it's basically stuck at the logo.
I'm able to get into the hboot screen via bqttry removal technique but cannot select any option because of bad power button.
Any ideas how to flash a new room? I tried connecting USB to pc but phone is not recognized while in hboot mode.
Any help would appreciated as it's my only phone
Thanks
Is your phone unlocked (ie do you have a lock symbol at the bottom of the 'X' screen)?
If so, I believe you can hold the trackball while booting up and that will take you into fastboot.
From there, I think you just issue the command
Code:
fastboot reboot recovery
If that doesn't work, you can just boot off a recovery file that is stored on your computer. Download either clockworkmod (I would recommend any v2.x as v3.x has some problems) or Amon_RA to a easy to type location on your computer. Then issue the command
Code:
fastboot boot recovery "c:\location to\recovery.img"
Ok, so I got it to boot in fastboot, but there's no option to
./fastboot-mac reboot recovery
Click to collapse
also
./fastboot-mac boot recovery ../recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1.img
Click to collapse
I get:
cannot load 'recovery'
and I did this:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/<recovery>.img
Click to collapse
Is there a way reboot it into recovery?
Thanks!
Passimg back to stock, root, and try again...
jp2000 said:

Is there any more into that error? Did you verify the md5sum to make sure the recovery isn't corrupted?
Also, if you have a recent nandroid backup saved on your sdcard, you can pull that off and flash the imgs directly
Code:
./fastboot-mac flash system /location/to/system.img
./fastboot-mac flash boot /location/to/boot.img
./fastboot-mac flash userdata /location/to/data.img
./fastboot-mac reboot
Where these files will be located depends on your recovery. I know with clockworkmod they are located in the backup folder under the clockworkmod folder on the sdcard. I don't know where they are stored for Amon_RA, but I would assume it would be similar.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
Finally got my phone working!
Hi.
I have the same problem but whenever I try "fastboot flash" or "fastboot recovery" I end up with "FAILED (remote: signature verifiy fail)". I think this is due to that my bootloader is not unlocked, so I tried:
fastboot oem unlock
I got the option to unlock bootloader but I had to use my power button to select "unlock". My power button is broken so I don't know what to do.
Is there anything else I can do? Otherwise I think I have to open the phone and try to repair the button.
PASSIMG back to stock and root. Use "unroot/restore" section in Wiki.
If you're skilled enough with soldering tiny connectors - you can repair the button. There is a guide on this forum, showing the exact location to attach to.
Thanks. Now I can use the phone again!
Where is this repair guide...please let me know...

I have an HTC One international. Today i try to get root access and install custom recovery, whent i flash recovery i missed that chose a boot partition to install it. Now phone boots only into recovery, and from my PC, adb or fastboot don see it, but in usb devices its present.
Im on linux Ubuntu 13.04.
In phone dont have any backup.

When i chose from CWM recovery menu "Reboot recovery", phone boot into download mode, and thats all. Fastboot or adb dont see it.
But. In usb device list:
In download mode:
Bus 002 Device 061: ID 0bb4:0ff9 HTC (High Tech Computer Corp.) Desire / Desire HD / Hero / Thunderbolt (Charge Mode)
In recovery mode:
Bus 002 Device 063: ID 0bb4:0f91 HTC (High Tech Computer Corp.)
Assuming you didn't corrupt your boot loader you should be able to get at the boot loader and use fastboot to flash a new recovery.
Power the device off
Hold power and volume down, the phone should turn on and load into the boot loader.
From there you can select fastboot (navigate menu with volumn buttons, power button to select fastboot).
You can use this command to flash a recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
If you can enter bootloader, you may try formatting partitions from fastboot, and flashing them afterwards, that is if bootloader is unlocked.
You can also lock your bootloader and try installing RUU,it will put your phone back to stock,
P.S. - I'm new to this,so please consult with more experienced members, before doing anything

"screen with a phone icon and a green image like i can connect via usb or something, but then it turns red after about 30 seconds" -> that's stock recovery
Before, when you are in bootloader (image attached), are you able to "fastboot devices" and it shows up? because the bootloader is not affected by the recovery.
basically "fastboot flash boot recovery.img" put the custom recovery where the kernel is supposed to be.
First thing you need to get/confirm working is bootloader/fastboot.

In cwm adb will work.
So i think you have some issue with drivers.
And, however, if you turn off the phone, you can't access in bootloader with a longpress of power and vol-?
Hey, so I'm the one who had this same situation. What I had to do from what I recall is go to CWM screen, cleared the cache, even in advanced the davlik cache, then I believe (and you might have to try different combinations of this, because I don't 100% remember as I had before tried so many different ways) I unmounted the system mount, then went to reboot from the first screen to get to the bootloader (hold power button and volume down). After this, I clicked on Fastboot and it then went to Fastboot USB. This is where you should be able to connect. Don't leave this screen until you flash the recovery in the right place and then properly install the ROM. Let me know if you get to at least connecting and I can even send over an image for your boot, so you can at least get your phone back.
It can be done, I had the same situation so your phone is not bricked. Just keep working at it.

There's no need to make multiple topics, my friend...
Remember that the TWRP IMG file must be in the same folder as your Fastboot files.
So, you can copy TWRP2801-titan-motog-2014.img file to the directory where your Fastboot is.
Or, you can type the directories correctly. For example, if your TWRP2.8.0.1 IMG file is located on your Desktop:
So, your command should be: fastboot flash recovery C:\Users\"username"\Desktop\TWRP2801-titan-motog-2014.img
Instead of typing, you can also drag-and-drop the TWRP2801-titan-motog-2014.img file into the CMD window.
Got it?

Fastboot and recovery are two different things. If you can get to Fastboot (bootloader) mode you should be able to flash recovery from there as stated by rafaelbrunner.
Hi Guys !
I'm facing a problem on rooting my Moto G 2014.
I've easily unlocked the bootloader but i can't flash the TWRP recovery.
I've read everything I could read about the process and I think I'm doing it the right way (the recovery file in the adb folder, etc...) and everything seems to be ok.
I've just a purple line at the end of the TWRP flashing procedure saying:
Mismatched partition size (recovery)
This post says that it's not really a problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48294073&postcount=6
Then, when I reboot the recovery, the phone reboots and the system starts normally (instead of restarting with the custom recovery ?). When I switch it off and switch it on in recovery mode, I still have the stock recovery.
Tried several times with TWRP 2.8.0.1
I can't say if it's because of a problem with TWRP (it's said here that it is buggy) or because I'm doing something wrong that I don't succeed.
I saw that there was a 2.7.1.1 release of TWRP for Moto G 2014 but it's no more available anywhere for now. I would have liked to try it...
Do you know if there's some known issues about flashing the Moto G 2014 recovery or can you help in any way ?
Hi guys !
I'm still investigating my problem and still trying to root the phone.
Here is what I get with adb:

The device seems to be seen when it's about writing the file on the storage but it's no more found when it's about rebooting the recovery...
Can someone help ?

Hi !
Thanks for your answer !
What do you mean exactly ? I didin't have any "old Moto usb drivers before". I installed them for the first time few days ago to unlock my bootloader.
Do I still have to uninstall these drivers (that are not that old) and install again the same ones ?

You can use "adb reboot recovery" only if the phone is turned on in normal android os ( in bootloader mode it'll only recognize fastboot commands ), and you must be sure also to have debug usb option enabled under settings/developer settings.

Hi eskamhl,
I warmly thank you for trying to help me.
I'had enabled usb debbug, no problem about that.
I"m not sure I understand what you mean when you say that the phone has to be " turned on in normal android os". I thought that the device had to started in recovery mode to install TWRP.
I tried to install TWRP with adb reboot recovery and with the phone turned on in normal android os.
adb says <waiting for device> when i paste and execute flash recovery TWRP2801-titan-motog-2014.img

Adb is one thing, fastboot is a different one.
If you give a "fastboot command" from the command prompt the phone must be in bootloader mode, instead if you give an "adb command" you must have the phone normally turned on.
Having said that, I didn't understand what's your problem... are you tryin' to boot into recovery mode or trying to flash twrp recovery?
It seems that you already flashed/installed a custom recovery ( TWRP ) from what you wrote, isn't it?

That's the point, I'm trying to flash a custom recovery (TWRP) in order to be able to flash SU.
I'm sorry about my poor english. I'm french and I confess that I'm absolutely comfortable in english.
For now the only thing I succeeded to do is to unlock the bootloader.
What I understand is that I have now to install TWRP with adb, am I right ?

No, you're not
You already did the installation of the custom recovery since you said that you received this message "Mismatched partition size (recovery)", now from bootloader menu you should boot into recovery ( volume down to scroll thorugh the options and volume up to select ).
If it won't boot maybe you should check the md5 of the downloaded recovery .img, probably it's a corrupted download.

When I try to boot into recovery from the bootloader (what I already did before), the screen turns black, 1 sec later the led switch on for half a sec and nothing else happends.
So, as you say, the recovery I downloaded was maybe corrupted. I'll check.
Guys, I've found the solution !
I think everything was ok from the beginning. The only thing that I did not understand was that I have to press vol- in fastboot to focus on "recovery" and to press vol+ to launch the recovery.
I didn't read it anywhere, i just see this in this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr14wNgazOw&hd=1 (see at 7"15).
Anyway, thank you for trying to help me and see you soon for all the good things coming for this phone !

You're right... my bad
hey sorry I'm sure this has been covered but I've been trying to root my new phone for the past 15+ hours and after installing Android revolution HD one 92.04a9 through Team Win Recovery project v2.6.3.0 it now keeps restarting in recovery and then takes me to Recovery project after a htc logo screen.
This is the first time I have attempted to root a phone and I'm a noob evidently so please go easy on me. (all I wanted was to hook up my bluetooth controller so I can play FF7 with more ease) any help would be greatly appreciated as I've just moved from London to the middle of nowhere and I'm bored out of my mind without my beloved HTC
Thanks a lot Mr. Tickles
I am so frustrated with general support of HTC. I am trying to get in touch with service for two months and no luck. My next phone won't be HTC for sure, I know.

Try factory reset from twrp recovery and the flash again. Also you can try to download the zip of the ROM again to be sure it is downloaded correctly and try change the twrp version.
You are using an older version of twrp. Try updating it first to the latest version and try flashing your rom again
Get the latest one here

But how do I do that if my phone wont appear in my computer any more?
Its 100% connected to my computer though because its appearing in devices printers but under the name android 1.0
You cannot enter in fastboot mode? If you can, then you flash recovery via fastboot

@istribo is right, to flash arhd you need at least twrp 2.6.3.3 or newer (latest version is 2.8.7.0) To update your recovery, make sure you have HTC drivers installed on your computer and also uninstall htc sync if its installed (but do not uninstall the drivers). Download your new twrp .img file from the link istribo posted above, save it in the same folder where you have adb and fastboot installed on your computer. Reboot your phone in bootloader / fastboot usb mode. Open a terminal window from your adb/fastboot folder and use these commands to flash the recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_file.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then reboot in recovery and flash arhd.
Note that you should also have a 7.xx.xxx.x firmware installed on your phone if flashing Android 5.0.2 Sense roms. You can know your firmware version with the command "fastboot getvar version-main"
My phone wont appear in my computer so how am I supposed to copy over the files...
sorry guys I'm going to need a step by step guide made for an idiot lol

If you press power button and volume down button it gets you into recovery. Then u choose fastboot and the you do what alray said.
right so the fact my phone wont appear in my computer doesn't matter then?
Okay sorry for being silly I've just read that properly. Problem is when I got to install adb/fast boot it says something like incorrect parameter 'sheppard'

Download the sdk tools here (fastboot and adb): https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#Other
Download and install HTC drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/download/k7trah995whrw0d/HTC-Mobile-Driver_v4.16.0.001.exe
Connect your phone to a USB 2 port directly from your computer (no external usb hub, better to use back ports, not front ports)
Reboot your phone in bootloader mode by holding power and volume down. When in bootloader, make sure you see the red "fastboot usb" caption, if not select the "fastboot" option using the vol up/down and power key to enter. Once "fastboot" option is selected, make sure you now see the red "fastboot usb" caption.
Open a terminal window from your sdk tools folder
Type "fastboot getvar all" without the quotes en hit enter
copy paste the output here so we can see it (but do not post your IMEI/Serialno)
Then update your twrp:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_file.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Sorry I forgot to say I got my phone all working and rooted! Thank you all so much for your help! wouldn't of done it without you guys.
Stock Rom kitkat 4.4.2 rooted, unlocked, s-off. Was in recovery and accidentally hit the "middle button". Been stuck on "updating partition details" for 12 hours. I've searched and can't find the answer, but I'm relatively new so maybe I'm not looking for the right thing. Please be somewhat specific as the jargon is also something I am learning. I know nothing about partitions so I have no idea what my phone is even doing. Thanks guys. Love ya all and would be lost without you!!

You were trying to update firmware using twrp?
First, I would suggest plugging your phone into a wall outlet and charging it until it's fully charged. You can get to the bootloader with the phone off by pressing power + volume down. Afterwards, I suggest running the latest RUU, not simply a FUU. This is done from the bootloader, not TWRP.

For future reference adb works while booted to recovery or OS/rom
Fastboot works in bootloader/fastbootusb

Stock or updated firmware? My phone still runs 4.4.2... I tried everything I could think of...still no recovery or adb...Im not sure which ruu to use...please be a little more specific and thank you so much for responding. I was up until 3:30 am trying to figure this out...Im super tired, frustrated, and heartbroken.
How do i run it? Flash to where? Where should my sdk and adb be on my computer? Is there a more recent version of the tool kit? Do i want to flash from oem ruu? I used to have a bunch of different utilities on my computer and erased what I could fine but there is adb all over the place...I have a few phones...unfortunately. Do i need to relock bootloader? What about recovery? Can I create another account on my pc and avoid the other programs? Can I or do I need to sideload or push anything? I cant even tell if I still have drivers or good ones...phone is just sitting on black screen with silver htc on it
