When I first got my Captivate, the battery life was pretty good. I was able to get about 13 hours while only draining 10% of the battery in standby mode. However, I recently had the battery drain completely until the phone turned off by itself, and I recharged it to full while having the phone turned off.
I thought that would improve the battery life based on what I've read, but it hasn't. The battery life has gotten worse! Now, I only get a little more than 5.5 hours for 10% battery life in standby mode.
What should I do to get the battery performance back to where it was originally? Should I do another full cycle charge with the battery depleted and charging it while the phone is off? Or should I let the battery get close to depleted and charge it to full while leaving the phone on? What's the correct process for cycle charging?
BTW, I'm not rooted, and everything is stock with the exception of LauncherPro. But I was already using LauncherPro when the battery life was good.
Hey all,
I have had terrible misfortune in the realm of battery stats. Ever since CM7 (and maybe even before) my phone is unable to figure out how much battery is left. Here is a common scenario:
Charge phone overnight, use phone throughout day, battery dies after 6-7 hours of moderate-heavy usage. I plug it in, reboot, and then it reports ~60% battery left.
Another common scenario is that it will dwindle around 5% battery or less and go up and down until it finally dies.
I know that this is a misreading of the battery and not battery drain or a rogue app because when I flash a new ROM the battery life is amazing for 1 day. The day after I flashed Team Hacksung's ICS rom, I got almost 17 hours of battery life with 2.75 hours of the display being on and 30 minutes of Google Music. I was blown away! But even then it was dwindling around 5% not knowing when it would actually run out. The day after, it was back to its old tricks of misreporting the battery percentage.
Today I charged it to 100%, unplugged it, and shut it off. Then I plugged it in while it was off and let it charge to 100% again and wiped battery stats in Clockwork mod. I'm getting ok-ish battery with that, but it's not even close to how good it was when I first flashed ICS.
Anyone have any ideas what I could try?
Thanks!
When you wiped the battery stats did you let the battery fully discharge and shut off before charging again?
After wiping battery stats it is recommended to let the phone fully discharge to the point where it will automatically shut off.
Keep in mind with the age of our phones, it could just mean your battery is dying. Try the above method, but in my experience uncalibrated battery only last a few days. The phone will "fix" it by itself the longer you use it.

That's what I'm doing currently. Battery life seems improved, but we'll see what happens. It's nearing death now, ~6%. At this point it will probably misreport it for a few hours until it finally dies. I left it unplugged overnight, so now it's at 19.5 hours uptime with 1.75 hours display time.
Definitely improving! I hope that it successfully recalibrates.
Battery stats have nothing to do with how the os calculates remaining battery...they are what is displayed in settings>about phone> battery use and are reset each time you charge to full.
You're just giving it a good bump charge...wiping the stats is just a placebo effect.

Seriously? Wow I didn't know that. Is there a way to actually reset how the OS calculates the battery?
Does this app do anything?
https://market.android.com/details?...xLDEsImNvbS5uZW1hLmJhdHRlcnljYWxpYnJhdGlvbiJd
Nope...that app is just perpetuating the myth of what the batterystats.bin file does.
Don't hate me for this but, Then how come Roms usually give me better battery life after a full cycle? not bump charging or deleting battery.bin just running it?
Because the system for tracking the remaining power is getting to know your battery. once it gets a feel for it, it's more accurate. In theory anyway
So the "give it a day" is still true, at least in theory?

battery gauge temporarily fixed by removal and replacement of battery
Ever since I rooted my phone, I've noticed that the battery gauge/meter is way off. I keep an eye on the charging voltage and try to pull the plug around 3.92 volts. Problem is, the gauge is always reading low until I pull the battery, wait a few minutes, and then reinsert and boot up. Then it's fine for a while, but I notice it creeping down even though I keep topping it off with a charge to keep it around 3.92 volts.
What's going on? Do I have to fully deplete the battery and charge to full to have an accurate (or somewhat accurate) battery gauge? Do I have a bad battery (this battery has been used only a couple months)? Is something else going on here? Recommendations, studacris? Doesn't the os use battery voltage to calculate state of charge (%)?
Hi I rooted my phone a few weeks ago hoping fir better battery and performance when needed but every since tge battery calibration has been messed up, for example earlier I was using my phone to music through ear phones and looking through Facebook (using 4g) it said I had 73% battery left but then died, phone was charged to 100% over night and only had about 35 mins of actual on screen time.
Ive tried many different battery calibration apps but none work.
Sometimes when the battery completely discharges and turns off and I plug in the charger it wilk give me the actual battery % but when I turn on the phone it will say 40% even though its actually only 12%
Should I use a different rom? Can someone recommend me one for my c6903 please
Hello, I'm encountering a weird issue with my phone.
It seems to be happening when I don't fully charge the phone, even though it's kinda random.
The issue is that the battery is draining damn fast after charging the phone. The first screenshot shows how I lost ⅓ of my battery in 14 hours without having touched the phone. There's a difference between the beginning curve and the ending curve, that's because I tried to reboot my phone.
I do have AccuBattery installed, which is an awesome app. And it actually shows me than during this interval, I lost around 600mAh (see second screenshot). That should represent 15%, which would be a good value because I'm usually losing around 1% per hour. I shouldn't have lost so much battery.
So.. it seems that the battery is not being charged at 99% at all? I think my battery level has some issues. Because when charging, it usually stays at 100% for around 20 minutes, but is still charging according to AccuBatrery. This can be noticed on normal charges (third screenshot).
If a charge from 19 to 100% charged about 3300mAh and a charge from 7% to 100% charged about 3620mAh, my last charge from 10% to 99% shouldn't charge only 3400 mAh. And that's related to my problem of "phone is still charging even at 100%".
I already tried to empty my battery and fully charge it, I already tried to wipe cache, the issue is still coming back.
Is anyone else encountering this issue? What should in order to fix that?
Thanks in advance!
Bumping. Any idea? :/
Here is another screenshot showing the battery is being discharged with ~2000mAh
Well bought this phone back in mid 2017,and because of sickness I haven't used it that much at all.
I charged the battery 11 times so far and was keeping the phone in a desk drawer.
A month ago I noticed that the phone won't turn on,so I plug the charger on and charged the battery to 100 %.
I supposed that the phone was on,I didn't turn it off,and the battery left to 0% and shutdown the phone.
I really can't say how long it was on 0% (suppose like maybe a month).
Today I noticed very bad battery results.
Batterylife with GSam Battery Monitor is around 12 h only.
Was the "bolded text" the reason that battery died or the reason was not using the phone for 2 years?
Is there a software to check the damage of the battery?
I installed accubattery pro but for some reason doesn't offer me Health status of battery.

I would give the battery a few full cycles to see it that sorts it or yes, the battery it would seem is on its last legs. I don't know what app to recommend as an alternative though. (My battery is 23 months old and still performs as it did when I brought the phone)
I would drain it to 5% (maybe 1%) then charge it to 100% (without using phone while charging) a few times.
Then see how it goes. Afterwards charge phone from 20% or 15%.
Ok.I will charge it to 100% and report you with results with duration time on battery and you tell me how bad is it
