Popup window after headphones connected - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hello,
I would like to create a task, that would popup a snackbar, with some music apps after I connect headphones.
My profile is like:
if ( headphones had been connected & screen is on )
then show popup ONCE
I have almost finished doing it, yet I have one obstacle that I do not know how to overcome. Headphones (headset) is being detected as a state, so it is continuous. I would like to use it more like an event.
By having it like as a state this popup shows everytime I unlock my screen, yet I would like it to be only once.
To be clear, screen on is needed in case I want to use other app than Poweramp, which automatically plays music after I connect headphone. That way, I would get the most of both worlds
Any help?

Export task to xml and put here
You can ad some "if".
Show popup If %Plugin = 0
And as last step add Enter task - set %Plugin to 1
Exit task: set %Plugin to 0
or something similar.

Well, I thought so as well. Unfortunately, when screen goes off, this means that exit task is being triggered.

Thanks for your help. I just solved it on my own, it turned out as if I set both Screen and Headphones State as triggers, this popups show all the time, but after moving Screen State to be checked in the task, it just works

Instead of opening a window when you plug your headphones, you could add audio widgets and shortcuts to one of you homescreens and then when you plug your headphones it jumps to that homescreen.
When you unplug them, you could set it to jump to your main homescreen.

HTC's Home Plungin, Sound setup question

The last tab on the HTC's home plugin is where you set up the sound (normal, silent, vibrate or automatic). Can someone tell me how the automatic setting works? Looking at the icon it seems like its similar to timed profile. Where are the settings corresponding to that?

I wonder which part of this is automatic?
Once you select this profile your phone will ring and make noise when you have a new appointment ect, however during "busy" times as set in your appointments the phone will act as if it is on vibrate only.
Great feature, however once you have selected it once, it is basically always on.
Free time = Normal sounds
Busy Time = Silent with vibrate.
Hope this clarifies it for you.

Hmmm.... Mine works correctly & I am able to toggle it on & off & it only defaults to the manner mode if I have it selected.
Sounds like you shoul try another version. I use Xplodes version, however I have incorporated the fixed weather & brightness .dll.

Ring Doorbell Pro Integration With Tablet

I have the Ring Doorbell Pro and am generally happy with its performance. I also just mounted an older Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 on the wall, as a hub for my various home automation lights, switches, etc..
I am trying to get the Ring Doorbell app to open when there is a ring, or motion is detected, to show the image from the Ring's camera for 40 seconds, then to close and return to the tablet's Home page.
I purchased Tasker, but unfortunately, my recipe is not working well at all. Here is what I have as a Tasker profile:
The trigger is a Ring app Notification when either a ring or motion is detected.
1. Open Ring app
2. Wait 41 seconds
3. Go Home
This works sometimes, but most of the time it either does not open the app, or it does not close the Ring camera-view window, or it does not go to the Home page, but stays on the Ring app's list view of events.
Has anyone done what I am trying to do and how did they do it? Any other suggestions?
I also have a Smartthings hub, if this would help in anyway. And Amazon Echo
Thanks!

Thanks! I did it, restarted tasker and the notification trigger worked several times in a row.
But it still fails to close the camera window, or to Go Home
Anyone with a Ring Doorbell who has achieved the task of bringing up the view window to the front for 40 seconds (the standard recording duration of Ring), and then closing it and returning to the Home screen?
So, does this mean that Tasker is unable to reliably bring an app to the front for 40 seconds, then close it?
Bump! Interested as well..
I suggest checking two things:
1. Instead of just going home, try killing the app
2. Double check the priorities of actions and set the task to abort existing tasks

have you looked into using IFTTT? there are ring recipes on there
To the OP. Did you ever get this to work?
I am trying the same thing with tasker, but tasker is new to me so im not sure how exactly to set this up. Are you able to assist?
Bump! Anyone have luck with this?
So far I have tasker doing the following on my wall mounted tablet near the front door upon receiving a Ring doorbell notification (motion or door bell):
Screen unlock
Secure settings > wake (screen & keyboard lights on 4 seconds)
Launch app > Ring
Wait 30 seconds
Go Home
All the tasks trigger except the wait for 30 seconds. Tasker ends up going home before the ring camera fires up and displays on the screen. This also has the unfortunate side effect of locking the ring doorbell and I have to manually go into the app and click the red hang up icon to “release” the doorbell. Any ideas on how to solve for the wait issue AND to gracefully close the Ring app after 40 seconds?
Thanks.
Me Too
I'm also trying to do the same thing with an old Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet so also very interested if someone has figured out how to get this to work.
Couple of additional questions:
1. If you have a wall mounted tablet how are you dealing with RING app wanting to run in Portrait mode only for navigation but landscape mode only for Live View
2. How to hve RING app immediately go to live camera via as right now I have to go from RING menu to Front Door and then Live View when motion is detected or click on notification if doorbell is rung. My goal is to be able to do what Amazon Echo Show can do which is give a voice command to Tablet .. "Show Front Door"
RING App combined with TASKER and/or IFTTT on an Android Tablet set-up as a KIOSK have a lot of potential if these issue can be resolved.
THanks,
Chris

Ring Doorbell automation with Tasker, Notification Listener and Rotation Controller
I have forced my RING App to run in Landscape Mode with an app called "Rotation Controller".
To have the RING App go directly to the live cam when the doorbell is rung, you can use the Tasker Plugin "Notification Listener" and make Tasker click on the notification as soon as it pops up. This makes the device switch directly to the camera view instead of the Ring App Homescreen.
This works fine so far, BUT yet I have found no way to close the camera view after a few seconds automatically. I can´t use the tasker "kill app" command, since my Xido X111 android device is not rootable. The "go home" command would bring up the home screen, but the camera window is still running in the background and thus blocking the doorbell until the hang-up symbol is clicked manually.
Any ideas how to close the camera view somehow on an unrooted device?

If you can access your tablet with ADB to do the set-up, look into AutoTools/AutoInput
"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment." - Will Rogers
AutoInput Point click didn‘t work for me, because the ring app doesn‘t seem to support accessibility from other apps (or maybe i was just too incompetent) BUT i found a very easy solution: after tasker fires up the ring camera and waits for x seconds, i let it just load the ring app again with the toggle „always start new copy“. This doesn‘t kill the ring app, but at least kills the camera screen and therefore prevent the doorbell from locking up. Now it just works as i wanted

You need the additional Tasker Plugin "Notification Listener" and make Tasker click on the notification as soon as it pops up. To close the camera screen after a few seconds, you just load the ring app again with tasker (don´t forget the toggle „always start new copy“).

"Profile" is the event that triggers something. In our case this is the notification from the ring app. you can choose "Notification Listener Event -> Posted Apps -> Ring App" for that.
"Task" are the actions which are triggered by the Profile Event (click on the notification to open the camera screen, wait x Seconds, close the camera by opening the ring app again):
1. Plugin>Gestures>Configuration>Notification Key: %nlkey
2. wait>45 Seconds
3. Launch App>Ring
you don´t need the "if"
I got it working!! thanks alot
Hi.
I've got all necessary programs (first time I bought something from play store) but can't get it to work.
Part with :"Plugin>Gestures>Configuration>Notification Key: %nlkey"
does not work.
How to get it to work?

Context/trigger when between a time and plugged in (charging)

I would like to create a task that silences my phone when it's plugged in between 9pm and 3am (when I go to bed I plug in my phone and it would be nice if the phone automatically silenced itself).
There are two problems with this:
1) While I have the ability to create a time based context or a USB connected context, I do not see how to create an "and" condition in your context such that you want your task to fire when both those conditions are met. How do you create a context that will trigger off multiple conditions?
Edit SOLVED: Tap the profile tab and tap on a profile you have until it shows the arrow view with a trigger on the left, a task on the right, and a green arrow between. Long press the trigger on the left of the green arrow and a plus icon will show up to add more triggers.
2) When I look at creating a task for silent mode, the only values available are to turn silent mode off or vibrate. I do not see an option for turning silent mode on. What am I missing? How do people turn the phone to silent using Tasker?
Turn volumes down with Tasker in the audio Section.
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
If you want it to act like a true silent mode by using the method mentioned by @Josh Smith10
What you could do is store the current volume levels, such as ring, media, alarm etc. Into a variable, then when it's time to exit the profile, just set your volume to those variables that you created. Then clear your custom variable after it has restored to that volume.
So this will restore the previous volume level before silent mode kicked in

I need a guide to create an advanced profile with tasker

I need to disable notification sound only from selected app (For example what's app) when Bluetooth headset is connected. Is it possible with tasker? If yes please tell me how.......
Thanks in advance
my personal thoughts, this is so complicating and might not worth it... unless you have a real good reason for doing it, I would not recommend trying to implement this.
in case you still want this, you can try:
- install autoinput or something similar to mimic your actions in turning off sounds in those apps
- link those actions to a Tasker profile with Bluetooth conditions
I imagine you would need to have screen turned on for the actions to be carried out
This should not be very difficult.
You should set a profile to create a variable When bluetooth is connected.
Then a profile when the app is running, the task within would be: set a variable to memorize current media volume, then "if bluetooth connected, set media volume to zero".
Exit task would be: set volume media to original media volume.

Very new to Tasker, need help

I have a shake left right task to change my brightness on my phone. I have a BT Connected profile that is set up for connection to my car's Bluetooth that turns off wifi, sets brightness, etc. Problem is if I hit a bump, my brightness changes due to the shaker profile. I've tried multiple ways of setting in my BT Connected profile to toggle the shake left right profile off when connected to my car. Is there a way to do this? If not I have to turn it on and off manually. I apologize if this has been covered somewhere else.
Thanks in advance
Make an "if" condition in your brightness task using %pactive. It should be: if %pactive doesn't match *,yourbtprofilename,*
Good luck

So this does not seem to be working correctly. I have made a "if" condition, but it either doesn't work or just breaks the shaker all together. I have moved the "if" (line 9) to any and all lines, but it still is not working correctly. For some reason I cannot submit a screen shot, even though I have been on this forum for years...
1. If V
%BRIGHT ~ 255
2. Display Brightness

3. Display Timeout

4. Else
5. Variable Set

6. Display Brightness

7. Display Timeout
Secs 0 Mins 1 Hours 0
8. End If
9. If V

Am I missing something?

Much better to post the actual profile when it's not working as expected. Make sure it's named - not a default name assigned by tasker. Then long press on the name to highlight the profile. Go to the 3-dot menu and select export -> Description to Clipboard.
Then you'll be able to paste it. Be aware, it easier to use pastebin.com then link to a post here. If you paste in a post here, the forum software will convert all semicolons with characters after, typically "on" and "off" to emoticons making it very hard to read.

Below 9 is where you want your task! With 9 you're saying 'if'. Task #10 and up is your consequence of that. Try a more simpler task to get to know 'if' and 'else'. Then try again with this task. Basically: 'if condition' - task - task - 'end if'. You can put more 'if conditions in between if you want.

In your shaker profile if you have an entry task, add an if statement. In here on the variable side put %PACTIVE and use the matches symbol. Then on the right side put *name of bt profile*
Then after that task add a stop task, then end if task.
What this will do is first check if your using you bt connected profile and stop or go depending on if it's active. I hope this makes sense. If not I'll try to write it out more clearly when I get home. You may not need an entry\exit task for your profile if you only have just a group of tasks just add the if part inside one of those tasks
