Hello guys,
I was totally stunned, when I saw that there's a member lead tasker forum. I love tasker and couldn't imagine a phone without it.
As I want to spread my thoughts here are several profiles coming for you
Requirements
Secure Setting
What does the script do?
Simple. It turns on your phone, when you open your flip case (or e.g. take it out of your pocket) and turns it off, when you're on the lockscreen and approximity sensor is cover (e.g. put it back in your pocket and/or close your flip cover).
Let's get started
Profile 1
Code:
[B] 1. State -> Approximity Sensor[/B] [I]check reverse
[/I] 2.[B] Enter task and name it[/B] [I]"turn display on"[/I] for example. Add the action[B] Plug-In --> Secure Settings --> Configuration --> Wake Device[/B].[I](Choose Wake Type Screen Bright; Duration 5 seconds)[/I]
Now exit the task section and add to the contexts of this profile:
- State --> Display State Off
- App --> Dialer App [your phone's dialer app]; Check reverse
Done
Profile 2
Set up a new profile
Code:
[B]State --> Approximity Sensor[/B]
Enter a task and name it for example [I]"display off"[/I], go to plug-ins --> Secure Settings --> Lock device [I]You have to enable device adming and grant Secure setting Device admin privileges[/I]
Exit the task and add to the contexts of this profile
[B]- State --> Variable value[/B]: Conditions %DISPLAYOFF ~ 1
-[B] App --> Dialer App[/B]; [I]Check reverse[/I]
Done
Profile 3
Code:
[B]Event --> Display --> Display on[/B]
Add the task [B]Variables --> Set Variables[/B]: [I]Name %DISPLAYOFF to 1[/I]
Done
Last Profile
Code:
[B]Event --> Display --> Display Unlocked[/B]
Add the task and name it "display unlocked" for example: [B]Variables --> Set variable;[/B] [I]%DISPLAYOFF to 0[/I]
Done!
Please don't forget to enable the proximity sensor under settings-->Display-->Proximity Sensor-->Yes, so the display can be turned on, when proximity sensor is triggered
So that's it. Very simple but saves you a lot of time.
Please feel free to post some imrpovement suggestions, thoughts or anything else that comes up your mind. I'd really be happy about it-

What's the reason of using phone app in this profile? Also it'll be better if you post screenshot as our tasker version looks to be different.

Okay, I tried to implement this, but using the 4 profiles does not do anything with my phone. I am using an S7, with stock ROM and Android 6.0.1
Tasker is enabled and shows the flash in the status bar. But it always says that no profile is active. Of course, I enabled the 4 profiles.
Is there any setting in Tasker I need to enable or change in order to make this running?
The four profiles are already enabled and Tasker is active, showing the little flash in status bar.
But closing the lid or blocking the proximity sensor does not do a thing.
Cheers man for your support.

First you shouldn't quote the whole op, it looks uglu. Second you already asked the same question just five hours ago, don't repeat your questions at least for 24 hours, that's the forum's ethics. Now wait patiently till someone answer you.

Hey. Yes, there is an option you have to enable within tasker.
Go into Tasker, hit the three dot menu, click on "settings". Under "Display" go to "proximity Sensor" and click on yes. This will allow the sensor to be triggered, when the display is off.
Additionally you can check, if your secure settings "System + Module" is enabled within secure settings.
Please try this and let me know if it works now
Cheers follow
EDIT: I'll change this in the OP, too!
Oh no...I just saw that secure settings needs root access. This I wanted to avoid with the S7. Damn it....
I guess it is related to the issue.

Yeah. It's kinda my fault that I didn't mention that these profiles need root in order to work. I'm sorry that it won't be running on your phone then maybe you stick to one of the apps from the play store, which do pretty much the same.

Do I need the Pro Version of Secure Settings? I rooted my device now, could remove bloatware and use root browser, but secure settings shows "no root detected" (?)

Use the app "root checker" from google play to verify if root is installed properly. If so, please enable the system+ module in secure settings. No paid version needed
It says properly installed. It must be properly installed because I could grant root access for other apps.

Well I don't know why Secure Settings isn't working for you (I'm not a dev). Unfortunately the developer has stopped working on the app 2015, so this might be related to it. But maybe you post your problem in the secure settings thread.
I'm really sorry, that it doesn't work on your device and with my little knowledge I'm not able to provide a workaround. Sorry bro
EDIT: Just an idea....could you check your super User app, if you really granted Secure Settings root permissions?
Oh, that's a good point. It does not show Secure Settings in SuperSU app. How can I add it there?

Could you just run a task in tasker, e.g. "Time --> 13:35 (or whatever is close to now) --> Task--> Plug-In --> Secure Settings --> Root Actions --> Airplane mode on"
In fact there should be a prompt which asks you to grant secure settings root permissions. Try this and let me know
This is really driving me crazy. All the actions that require root are grayed out.
I cannot get the secure settings app to request root access.
No problem with adaway or titanium backup. It works fine.
Just Secure Settings will not send a request.

Well I can't help you much. I have no idea why this isn't working for you. Maybe uninstall/reinstall secure settings and try again?
I already did that several times. I even bought SuperSU.
I also contacted the dev, so let's see what the response will be.
I am gonna post the solution here, in case there is one

Hey there. I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news are, that I checked this profile with a similar samsung phone and hat the same error notification like you had in secure settings.
The good news are, that you don't even need secure settings' "System + Module". I rewrote the script and it should actually work on any Samsung phone. Are you still interested?
Related
A few months back, I wrote about a hacky way to enable one-handed mode using a shell script, taken from this reddit thread. With this task (provided you have root access), you can enable one-handed mode just by holding down the home button or swiping-up from it.
Prerequisites
Root access
Instructions
(For Android 6.0+) Go to Settings --> Apps. Press the settings cog up top, then go to Default Apps. Enter "Assist & Voice Input" and for the "Assist App" choose Tasker. Be warned that doing this will stop the "OK Google" on every screen (and off) from working, but if you're okay with that then go ahead and change it!
(For Android < 6.0) Clear the default app that is set for swiping up from the home button. You will enable Tasker as your default app after you're done following the rest of the steps below.
Create a new profile and name it whatever you want, then choose the Event context. Go to UI, then choose Assistance Request.
Back out, and create a new task named 'Overscan' or whatever else you want.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, we'll make the actions needed for the task itself.
Task --> If. Set the condition to %Overscan eq 1.
Code --> Run Shell. For the Command, type in wm overscan reset. Check "Use Root" and then back out.
Variables --> Variable Set. Under Name, choose %Overscan, and set it to 0.
Task --> Else.
Code --> Run Shell. For the command, type in wm overscan LEFT,TOP,RIGHT,BOTTOM where each of the directions are the pixel counts that the screen will shift in. On my Nexus 6p, I've set it to wm overscan 0,845,0,0. See my article for examples.
Variables --> Variable Set. For Name choose %Overscan and set it to 1.
Task --> End If.
That's it! Now when you swipe-up/long press the home button, you'll launch the Overscan tasker task which will shift your screen depending on whether or not it has already been shifted. The %Overscan variable is a global variable that is set to 1 if the screen is shifted and 0 if not.
Of course, this isn't the only thing you can do with long-pressing the home button. You can also do and set the Assistance Request to open a web-search overlay on any app.

Set to shake event instead
When I just use play button in Tasker it works fine, but if I shake it sets only top overscan ignoring rest parameters

@MishaalRahman
Thanks for this great guide! I first set it up as suggested and then switched it to a shake event, quite handy. I might end up using this with a swipe gesture from Nova launcher.
Do you have any idea how we could realize a shrinking screen just like Samsungs one handed mode? Example here -> http://www.androidcentral.com/sites.../2015/09/note-5-reduce-screen-size-screen.jpg
I did some research and I think it might work using the commands "wm size" and/or "wm density", but I have very little knowledge about how to use them properly. Maybe you can help me out on this...?

When I use this in the home screen and all drawer I get what's in the pictures. Any thing I need to change to fix this? I am using Nova launcher on a rooted nexus 6.

To mimic Samsung's implementation, you will have to change the LEFT and RIGHT parameters. However be noted that it will really mess with a lot of apps and they won't display properly.

Experiment a bit. Make sure you set a fail safe to revert it back to normal, say if you shake your phone.
Thanks for this trick! But i don't seem to be getting tasker as an option in the voice assist list of apps. I do get secure settings though. Anything that i might be missing here? Also, i've granted accessibility permissions for tasker. On 6.0.1 - Nexus 5

Any way we can change the background color after the over scan? Just a thought!

I have checked the 'root'box. Accessibility on for Tasker. But as you can see from the pic above, it's not running. See the red dot? I'm on 6.0.1 and use Google launcher. Long press on home doesn't work either. I get the su toast message saying Tasker has been granted su permissions but that's it. Any help would be appreciated. @MishaalRahman

Hello!
Help needed, I am on Galaxy S6 and I am looking for a way to start / stop the task by long pressing the home button.
As for now I didn't figured it out.
Any help please?
How can I get the correct overscan
Hallo everyone,
i have looked over all the threads here but did not find any solution.
My question is: Since SecureSettings (plugin) seems to be not developed anymore i need a new way to completely disable keyguard with Takser and ofc. reset to keyguard it was before.
Example: currenty i have a pattern to unlock. What i want to do: Profil "App X starting" -> Start-Task: completely disable keyguard (no "swipe to unlock", no pattern, no pin, nothing: tapping on power button => screen on with current running app); -> Exit-Task: restore pattern (with the pattern i was using before ofc)
Does any1 know any way how to do this? Currently i am running CM13 Snapshot (Android 6.0.1) on my GT-I9505.
thanks for any helpful answer

Thanks, but i already knew this. The problem is not, secure settings does not find su binary. The problem is, secure settings -> disable keyguard is not working on LP&MM.

hi, this is weird!
Maybe I misunderstood something here, but I'm running MM, and Secure setting's disable keyguard runs fine here. I use it to turn off pin keyguard when at home, and turn it back on, with preset pin, when I'm out.
I'm running Tasker with Secure setting on 6.0.1. Also, Secure setting is enabled in Xposed, if it matters.
I don't see any problem so far...
p.s. I just saw another plugin from the same developer, it is called SecureTask, it claims to be able to clear/set pin, password too. Maybe a good solution to finally replace the dated Secure setting?

Like mentioned in my OP (and how it worked on 4.4.4 (CM11):
Profil "App X" => start task: disable keyguard => end task: enable keyguard
i am using unlock pattern usually. what i want is, while "App X" is active/running, keyguard will be set to nothing (not even swipe to unlock!). pressing power (or home button) on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505), wich has no fingerprint reader, returns me from black screen (screen off) to the running "App X", i was before pressing power button to screen off. If i stop "App X" the keyguard should be re-set to the unlock pattern.
The SecureSettings plugin did this job on android 4.4.4, but not on 6.0.1 for me

The task I use is the follwoing:
A1 Secure Settings, "screen & keyboard Lights on 4 s"
A2 Screen Unlock "Using the Plug I have mentioned"
A3, what ever else you want to do with Tasker
Please keep in mind that previously, I have disable the PIN using Tasker and Secure Settings when my cell phone is connected to my car's bluetooth
Keyguard is disabled/not an option in Secure Setting even I enabled legacy features. Did anyone figure it out how to disable keyguard on Marshmallow?
I have an unrooted/unchanged/stock Huawei P10 running EMUI 5.1 and am trying to debug a website I'm making. Latest Chrome on the P10 and latest Chrome on my Retina MacBook Pro 15'' (late 2013) High Sierra 10.13
The route worked on all my previous devices. USB Debugging is checked on, I plug in the cable and say yes to the prompt "Allow Access to device data?". Next prompt "Allow USB Debugging" -> OK gives me the following error: "An App is obscuring a permission request. Settings can't verify your response"
Looking for solutions I read stuff about background apps which mess up things. All I know of / remember installing is "Mi Band Tools", and "Pie Controls".
I tried to shut down "Mi Band Tools" via Settings -> Apps -> Mi Band Tools -> "Stop" – But it seems not to be stopped for long? Since I don't know if this would solve the problem anways, I figured to come here first. It would be great if I wouldn't have to uninstall these apps.. always a pain to restore etc.
Thank you very much!

I had the same problem with my Huawei Honor View10.
I had to uncheck the "Permit drawing over other apps" for a (in my case) JINA Drawer. Maybe you have to uncheck an other one...
In EMUI 8 = Settings - Apps - Apps & notifications - Apps - Settings (bottom of screen) - Special access - Draw over other apps
Good luck!

Fix #2 - if it works
i was messing with my Samsung Galaxy J7 Core J701F/DS and I was trying to figure out your problem also because i got the same problem as yours so the thing that worked for me is going to Settings (Nougat 7.0/1)> Apps> 3-dot menu/optionsl settings/other settings> Special Access> Apps that can be on top> Disable all apps like literally disable them all and try to debug your phone again...if it works, enable apps in that setting one by one and repeat debugging process. If it doesnt work, disable the last app you enabled, and if it works again...that is the app that is doing the dirty work...mine was not in the system apps it was one of my apps which is AZ Screen Recorder lol....(why the app that is being used everyday need to be disabled....)

1. Apps such as Blue light filter apps constantly appear on the top of your screen thus breaking some of the on screen functionalities. Try disabling display over other apps permission of such apps and you should be fine.
2. Also, sometimes it is because of your custom launcher, so try switching to your stock launcher if above solutions don't work.
3. If Accessibility for some apps are on then try disabling them first.
PS : Of all the 3 solutions try the possible ones.
Hope it helps.

This put me on the right track.
I have an LG G6 running Android 8.0. My Keeper Security app needs permission to Draw over other apps and since around December 2018 it has started acting 'flaky'. The app would warn me that I need to turn on this permission, but when I clicked "OK" in the Keeper app to take me to the Android setting for the app, it was always turned on. I could turn it ON/OFF, along with the setting that needed this permission in the Keeper app (called Keeper Fill) and eventually get it to work again, but it would always break again very soon after.
As I am getting ready to go on a trip, I installed Google's Datally app. It, too, wants me to turn on Draw over other apps, but when I tap "next" to be taken to the Android settings page to enable Draw over other apps, nothing happens (I usually expect an app detects it has been enabled and gives "success" message).
So I started disabling the 3 possible suspects listed by kapil1100. I had LG's Comfort View and some Accessibility options enabled, so I turned them off and: no change.
I disabled all other apps that have permission to Draw over other apps via: Settings > Apps & notifications > Special access > Draw over other apps, and: no change.
I use Evie launcher, so I went back to the stock one: no change.
I got thinking about what else could be modifying/accessing the screen and realized that LG has custom Home touch buttons.
I went to: Settings > Display > Home touch buttons > Hide Home touch buttons and DISABLED Show lock/hide icon and then tried enabling Draw over other apps for Datally and IT WORKED!.
I was then able to turn Show lock/hide icon back ON and everything has been working as expected. I suspect that, because I had Show lock/hide icon turned on during an upgrade, something got messed up and my turning it OFF and back ON fixed the issue.
I hope this helps someone!
Hello, I've just started to learn to use tasker and I can't set the task I'd like.
The idea is the same as this tutorial:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/how-to/alwaysondisplay-aod-substitue-missing-t3698336
So when you receive a notificacion of the selected apps, AOD turns on, and when you delete the notificacion, AOD turns off. So it wil save a lot of battery compared to AOD always active
I hope some more experienced user can make it work, as I'm totally lost right now.
Thanks!
Anyone, please? Thanks in advance
I manage to make it worked, so where do you want to start ?

Mainly I don't know how to set the task "turn aod on/off"
Well, all you need is to download the two xml files to your device. I'm using Opera, so I chose download link option, that ended up downloading the xml file. Grant tasker all necessary permissions in 3 dots, more, Android settings. Otherwise, Tasker won't work properly. Tap on 'tasks' tab twice, and select import. Do this for the two attached files. Then create a profile according to guide in given link, choose one or multiple apps at once, when you press back Tasker will ask you associated task, select correct task. Repeat another profile. Toggles both profiles if it has not already, then tap check mark on top of Tasker app. You are then, good to go. I'm not an expert by any mean, just one step from labelled a complete noob, I just love to try new things so in case any further things to clear up just keep this conversation going.

There is an app mentioned in the post, which is AOD edge https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe, I also gave it a try and it also worked nicely and beautifully when properly configured. You might wanna give it a try to avoid all the complication. Just remember to scroll all the way down to save your settings. It's free.

Actually what doesn't work for me is the tasks to turn on AOD. I've followed the steps and they just don't work. I previously had a LG G6 in which it worked flawlessly, and I thought that they need to be adapted to Galaxy note 8 firmware. But since you said it's working for you, I am confused.
Everything on my side is correctly set (permissions and so) but the tasks doesn't work, not even turning them on manually
I'm going to send you screenshots of profiles and tasks later on. In the meantime, try the following :
1. Exclude tasker from battery optimization
2. Turn AOD on, go to lock screen, check if aod works. Then turn it off, it should be off for this profiles to work. Remember aod will disappear if unread notif has been read.

The problem seems to be with the task itself, as you can see in this screen recording.

To my understanding, the task is basically similar which differentiate by value, '1' for aod_on and '0' for aod_off.
You can find the screenshot of my profile below, with a few chosen apps corresponding to aod task. The two profile seems to be identical visually but they actually cover different event as mentioned in above guide.

Yes, I knew that. But the task seems to do nothing on Samsung devices. Maybe it needs to be rewritten.
Can you confirm you have a Samsung Galaxy and it's working for you?

BTW, What is "AAMM"? Is that a separate app? Thanks. Never mind I just found out your project previously named as Android Auto Mirror Mod(AAMM).

Such a bug happens on some models of smartphones (Samsung) that do not support non-standard resolutions. To do this, a reset function was introduced.

Sorry it was a mistake (S2A settings)
I think that S2A will combine all the functions (AAM, AAM +, AAMM and AAStream). This is the main idea.
Hi, start AAMM, go to Settings → Reset settings and select the option WM SIZE RESET what exactly does it mean? which application should i open? what do you mean by AAMM? let me know thanks

Replace AAMM by Screen2Auto, they are quite similar, Screen2auto can be considered as an "upgraded" version of AAMM
WM SIZE RESET : it reset the screen resolution to default settings
WM DENSITY RESET : it reset the DPI to default settings

Hello.
Maybe you need to set another resolution manually. Netflix may have internal mirror protection. I dont know. I have never used this app.
I got "Do not set the recovery options screen". What should I do?

Hello,
thanks for that wonderful app, i love the small back button, better then by AA Mirror.
One quick question:
Is it possible to restet the orientation when i go out of Screen2Auto but not disconnect from car?
Example, i start Screen2Auto then i go to Maps for example, now Screen2Auto is not activ (but not disconnect from car unit), so i want to set the Screenrotation to 0.
Is it possible, or is it only possible when i disconnect from head unit?
Thanks.

No. Screen2Auto screen rotation settings will only reset once you disconnect your phone from the head unit.
If you want to handle many different scenario of screen rotation, I advise you to use Tasker and Rotation Orientation Manager. It's not easy at first but then you can automate a lot of things
