Does my Galaxy S have true standalone GPS?

I just got this phone a few days ago and I'm camping in Maryland now and I've been playing with it. Is the GPS on this thing true standalone GPS or is it track-you-like-a-tagged-animal-thru-the-cell-towers-GPS? The way GPSTest and Google Navigation behave gives me hope it is the better standalone type. Any confirmation?
the SGS is not standalone GPS.. But mine works well and has stopped me from getting lost a few times.
for some is works well for others it dont.
you are one of the lucky ones
Correct my understanding, are u asking that our SGS has gps capability without network signal?
If thats ur question, then the answer is Yes
/nik on MIUI
So I've got one answer for NO and one answer for YES, LOL. So does it or does it not have independent GPS hardware in it?
SGS I9000 has standalone GPS hardware .
It also has A_GPS thats the network/Wifi add on for faster GPS lock etc .
GPS on cold boot no Wifi shows 6 satellites indoors with a 10 m error .
The specifications show it .
Broadcom BCM4751 chipset
The Samsung I9000 Galaxy S comes with a GPS receiver, which got a satellite lock in about three minutes with A-GPS turned off. A-GPS can speed this up quite a bit, but requires Internet access.

Check your model as their are some variants .
GPS test remove sim card turn off wireless .
Delete GPS data .
Get satellite lock or show satellites = GPS hardware as the A_GPS and Network Towers cannot work .

Yes it does, at least on the internation version. But as JJEgan said it won't lock on as quickly if you have your WiFi/mobile network turned off, as it would if you had them turned on.

GPS Signal reliabilty on LGOB?

Hi all,
what are your long time experiences with GPS reliabilty? I only used GPS with google maps / Navigation a few times and experiences are mixed - on motorway or in the countryside it was fine, but expecially in the city i had trouble with the position being totally off or jumping around ...
So please - is GPS reliable and stable for you? Please report.
Thanks,
Kusie
Yep , same here even when in 3g area and with asosiated wifi networks in range the positioning is bad, never gets under 10 m error.
And once on the road it gets worse good job i use it as a refference only and do not relly on the navigation
For proper navigation i use my Nokia 5800
it beats the P970 even without AGPS on

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 GPS Issues (AT&T)

Anyone else having issues with their Note 3 GPS? I'm having an issue were every time I plug or unplug the charger from my phone the GPS drops out. I have to then toggle the GPS on/off in my quick settings to get it working again while navigating. It also seems to drop the signal when I get an incoming phone call while using the navigation app. I have confirmed this same behavior on 2 other friends Note 3's. I'm hoping this is just a software issue that will be fixed in a future os update.

Anyone Experiencing Poor GPS Tracking/Lock?

Have been enjoying my brand new Oneplus 3T for exactly a week now. I switched from Oneplus One because I was tired of how poor the GPS lock is (If I recall correctly it starts to be problematic since Android 6). I was hoping that Oneplus 3T has better GPS lock & tracking, turns out it is more or less the same.
The GPS seems to be very accurate and working as it supposed to when you are not navigating, i.e. geotagging photos, checking in places with social media applications, or just opening navigation application but not navigating with them. But as soon as you start navigating, I had "No GPS signal" every few seconds and it is often confused where I am.
Anyone here experiencing the same problem with GPS? I'm on Oxygen OS 4.1.0.
Yep, I have the same problem I wonder if there will ever be a fix?

Are you on 3G? I found out that GPS works perfectly on 4G and 2G.
I have the same issues. If this software or hardware problems? 2g 3g 4g have effect on gps too?
I usually use waze, but it's keep loosing signal.
This is so anoyying.

Surprisingly yes. I read somewhere in the Oneplus forums that one member solved his problem by switching to 4G or 2G. I didn'ton't believe it at first but it turned out to be real.

GPS and WIFI receivers. Any connection between them?

Hi to all:
An observation on my moto g5s plus. When activating the GPS and obtaining the position, the system takes time, or the first time, to locate the current position. I'll call it First Positioning.
The first positioning time is less if I activate the WIFI receiver, even being in open space and far from any WIFI network signal.
Does anyone know or is interested in investigating, how the activation of the WIFI network signal search affects the improvement of the GPS signal reception?
Undoubtedly, if I activate the WIFI on the smartphone, I get quicker time for establishing the GPS position or less time for the First Positioning.
Tested with GPS Test apk and other offline navigators.
Currently this behavior occurs with an Android Oreo 8.1 Stock Rom and Android 10 Plus Pixel Experience.
Thank you, best regards.
I have no idea about a connection between GPS and WiFi. Android can use WiFi to help GPS, but why enabling WiFi can speed up the GPS fix when there are no WiFi networks in reach, I don't know.
The GPS of my G5S Plus has become so terribly slow (fix time of more than 20 minutes, losing position while walking outside). I have absolutely no idea what caused that. Last system update is over a year ago.
I use my phone for navigation in the car and for hiking. Last summer I bought an external GPS receiver.
