Did you replace Kinguser with SuperSU? Seen reports of FlashFire not playing nice with other root managers. Be sure to use the latest version of FlashFire. Default options are fine. Only include the ROM; GAaps can be added later. Finally, try Nexus ROM as it has been least problematic with FlashFire.
I realize your question is focused on compatibility with FireOS 5.1.2. Try simplifying to narrow down root cause. Not sure FireOS version directly plays into the equation.

I'm running Fire Nexus Rom and came from 5.1.2

Thx guys I'll try Nexus. I've tried everything else . ?

Not so sure given other recent posts...

I also loaded the Fire Nexus ROM having 5.1.2 on the tablet. No problem and is running great.

SUCCESS! FLASHED NEXUS ROM ON FIRE 7 - 5.1.2 version!
I had bricked my Fire 7 a couple of times trying to install the Slim ROM with Flashfire.
I restored the stock 5.1.2 firmware by following Root Junky's video, "How to Firmware Restore or Unbrick your Amazon Fire 5th gen Tablet"
Finally the Nexus ROM install was a success.
I flashed the Nexus rom ("lp-fire-nexus-rom-ford-20160405.zip")
on to my Fire 7 (2015) firmware version 5.1.2 using Flashfire v.031.
I rooted the Fire 7 (firmware ver 5.1.2) with Root Junky's SuperTool ("AmazonFire5thGenSuperTool.zip" - April 6. 2016 version).
Here are the steps I used to root the Fire 7 and install the Nexus ROM on it.
I am going into detail in order to assist others.
Make sure your Fire 7 tablet is fully charged.
1. First I reset the Fire 7 to Amazon factory defaults. You do this by booting the Fire 7 while holding down the Power and Volume-Down (left side of Vol button) buttons. Don't release the buttons until the "Amazon system recovery" menu appears.
-While holding down the Power and Vol-Down buttons, first the "Amazon" logo appears, then the "Amazon system recovery" menu appears. Using the Volume keys, I highlighted "wipe data/factory reset" then I pressed the Power button to perform the task.
-Then using the Volume keys, I highlighted "wipe cache partition" and then I pressed the Power button to perform the task.
-Finally with "reboot system now" highlighted, I pressed the Power button to reboot the system.
2. The Fire logo appeared for a few minutes (a bar may appear and a message about updating software might appear). It may take up to 10 minutes to boot.
-Then the Fire 7 Setup screen finally appears. I selected the language and then I connected the Fire to my Wifi (Kingroot needs an internet connection in order to root the Fire using RootJunky's SuperTool). I skipped the portion of the Fire setup that registers the Fire with Amazon.
3. Go to SETTINGS, DEVICE OPTIONS on the Fire 7.
Tap on the SERIAL NUMBER field 7 to 10 times.
This opens a new field below titled, DEVELOPER OPTIONS. Click on Developer Options. Make sure ENABLE ADB is turned on (switch is to the right and orange color, rather than off and grayed out).
4. Using the data cable that comes with the Fire, I connected it to my Windows 10 computer on a USB 2.0 port. I copied the Nexus rom (lp-fire-nexus-rom-ford-20160405.zip) to the root folder of my SD Card.
5. I then rooted my Fire using RootJunky's SuperTool. There is thread about rooting the Fire 7 using Root Junky's Supertool here on xda forums. Make sure to watch Root Junky's YouTube video with great rooting instructions.
(AmazonFire5thGenSuperTool.zip - April 6. 2016 version).
6. I installed a copy of Fireflash v.031 on my Fire 7.
(RootJunky's SuperTool only had Fireflash v.030 at the time. I had a copy of Fireflash v.031 .apk that I downloaded from a European server. I replaced Root Junky's copy of v.30 with my copy of v.031 and installed Fireflash on my Fire 7 using Root Junky's SuperTool batch file). I then disconnected the data cable from the Fire 7.
7. I started Fireflash v.031 and made the following menu selections:
- Click the Red + and choose 'Wipe'
- Ensure System data, 3rd party apps and Dalvik cache are CHECKED
- Click the Red + button and choose 'Flash ZIP/OTA'
- Navigate to and choose the latest Fire Nexus ROM Zip (I used "lp-fire-nexus-rom-ford-20160405.zip" that I had previously loaded on the root folder of the SD Card.)
- Ensure Auto-mount and Mount /system read/write are UNCHECKED
- Move (drag) "Wipe" to the Top of the order (just above the ROM flashing).
- Press the big FLASH button.
- Ignore any warnings that appear.
8. The screen will go black for a few seconds.
-Then it will say, "Loading" and lines of text will go by rapidly for a few seconds.
-A red bar will then appear at the top of the screen titled "Fireflash".
-The rest of the screen is black. Don't touch the tablet. Just let the program run. It takes 5 or 10 minutes. It looks like nothing is happening, but it is.
-Finally the tablet will reboot. The Amazon logo will appear for a little while, then a pulsing color dots animation will appear. This dot animation will run for 5 or 10 minutes more as the tablet boots for the first time. Don't touch the tablet until a Setup screen appears.
9. You can now set up the tablet, registering it with Google and loading your desired apps.
Nexus is a nice ROM. Much better and faster than the stock Amazon Store ROM.
Good Luck with installing the Nexus ROM on your Fire 7, it's well worth all the effort.

Well I bricked my tablet by accident by grabbing the wrong firmware....that sucked guess I'll send it back.
So I went to best buy to get another tablet since I'm the road a lot, used super tool to root and block ota's first of all... first time I flashed slim rom it worked finally..
Thx for all the hard work and helping others ?

Hello guys!
I just came on this awesome forum and I would like to stay active here
So, I got my Kindle Fire HD 7'' recently and yesterday I tried to root it but I failed ( some problems that said : Permission denied ) and I left it there. Today, I turned it on and the status bar and the sidebar with home etc has been disappeared. I tried a lot of things , but with no success. I have installed file manager but I can't find something that could be useful to restore my Kindle. I just want to get on the menu "Device" and press the button that format in factory settings my Kindle. Can someon help me, please?
If you're using gmail, turn off notifications. They interfere.

Ok i would suggest buying a fastboot cable (factory cable) you can find one on amazon for like 3$ but first lets see if we can get that thing rooted maybe it will bring it back to where you need it. Follow these directions exactly and should get it rooted.
First things first lets get your sdk and drivers setup correctly.
1. Download the sdk package from here http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#download
2. Open the file you downloaded and take the sdk folder and the sdk manager file and copy it to you hard drive. C:/sdk** C Being the hard drive letter. Sdk being a new folder you created. Put files in sdk folder
3. Now you need to open up sdk manager and go to tools menu and select manager addon sites. Now select user defined sites tab and select new and enter this site. http://kindle-sdk.s3.amazonaws.com/addon.xml and click ok.
4. You need to click the following boxes to install the packages you need. TOOLS, ANDROID 4.0.3 (api 15), and EXTRAS. Then click install packages to install them.
5. Now you need to install JDK from here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html
6. Now you need to install your basic java from here http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
7. Now you need to install kindle fire hd adb drivers from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890413
8. Now shut down your kindle and connect your kindle to your pc and let it boot all the way and unlock the lock screen.
9. Now you need to run this tool https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18.5.1.zip
And select option 1 and on your kindle when the screen pops up asking to restore go ahead and tap on restore.
10. When your kindle restarts the lock screen should turn black and look funny ( if this does not happen then run the tool again untill it does) Now unlock the lock screen.
11. Now you need to run this tool https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/Qmenu-v2.5.zip and select option 1
When it says press enter to proceed make sure you wait till it fully boots and you unlock the lock screen before continuing to next step. Once all steps are completed you should have root.
Open superuser to activate it and enjoy.

So, okay, I installed all the things and I am going on the step to open the RunMe.bat and then I choose the option 1. Then, it scans to get my Kindle, but can't find it. Now, the thing is that I can't know if the Kindle has opened the ADB as I can't go in the Sytem etc.

Can you help me with restoring my Kindle? C'mon! There will be a way to restore it from File Manager!
Without root or knowing if adb is enabled. There's not much i can do for you. The only other thing you can try is unplug your kindle ,reset your pc, wait till it boots, then plug kindle into pc this will power on your kindle. Then go into device manager and under kindle when you open that branch it should say android composite adb interface. If not you can try to update drive and choose the option that lets you choose what driver to install. Then search in program files/amazon and install drivers from there. But without knowing if this kindle has adb enabled its kinda hard to help you. But if these do install and it does shows up as android composite adb interface. Then try the rooting process again steps 9 - 11. If you cannot get steps 9 - 11 to work your only other choice is to get a fastboot cable ( factory cable ) and use the kindle restore tool from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254KFHD System.img Restore Tool and follow downgrade to 7.2.1 section.

Trying to unroot kindle, ADB not working

I bought a rooted kindle off of craigslist knowing it was rooted with what the guy called "CM10" I bought it thinking unrooting it would be easy; boy was I wrong.
I tried a guide that I can apparently not link to since I'm new, but
It worked up till the point of typing 'adb shell', where I got the error message "device not found".
I have the developer options on and USB debugging enabled on the kindle fire, but ADB will not work. I've tried putting
HTML:
;Kindle Fire
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_6860
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_6860&MI_01
in my android_winusb.inf file, and I've also tried install the kindle fire hd USB drivers, but NOTHING works. It just says the device cannot be found. I'm about to just toss the $120 POS out the window.
What else is there to even do? I just want it to be on its stock software. I dont want it to be rooted

Using the device, go to the Amazon Kindle Fire software update page and download the software update for your particular device. Make absolutely certain that you have the right one or it will brick your device. If you aren't sure, check your device in settings under "About Tablet" for the version number and post it here for help. The original Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire 2 are identical in every way except for the software so don't jump the gun and just assume you have the right one without checking.
Once you have the right software update on your device, use the file manager that comes with the device to locate the software update you downloaded, most likely located in the Download folder of the sdcard, and change the file extension from ".bin" to ".zip". (This step is very important)
Reboot the device and repeatedly press the power button during startup to access custom recovery.
In the custom recovery, locate the "Wipe" option and perform a "Factory Reset" (This step is also very important). It probably wouldn't hurt to wipe System as well, but be sure you DO NOT wipe external storage or sdcard.
With the necessary wipes having been done, go back to the main menu, and select "Install".
Use the panes on the right and left to navigate to and select the software update.
Make sure you have selected the correct file then swipe to install.
Reboot and enjoy your 100% stock, unrooted Kindle Fire.
This worked magnificently!! THANK YOU SO MUCH

[Q] Possible Bricked Kindle Fire HD 7"

I have a Kindle Fire HD 7" system version 7.4.3 that has the proverbial "Red Triangle" of death.
This unit has not been rooted and I am very much a newbie.
I have rebooted the unit many times. Periodically it will work and then lock up again with the Red Triangle.
90% of the time I no longer have wireless access as this has been disabled with the error.
After reading many of the posts here, I have considered rooting it to a) back up my system files (including email) and b) reloading the software. However, if I am not mistaken, I need to load an ADB file. Since the "Enable ADB" under Security Settings is on OFF and cannot be turned on, is there any way that I can revive this unit?
What I would really like is to back up those hidden system files that include email files, program data, etc. as well as make this work like it used to.
Can any one help me?
Without adb on you can't do much, you could just reflash the system image from fastboot, but you would probably need a fastboot cable since u don't have adb or root access. On the bright side a system reflash only reflashes the system partition, you won't lose any of the data for any of the apps. It also is prerooted, so you don't have to worry about doing that later. There's a tool that does the work for you in the android development section called kindle fire system restore tool. You will still need a fastboot viable to run this tool though. Also I haven't looked into it but I thought the red triangle thing was a kf2 error, but maybe I am mistaken?
Edit: I'm a moron, red triangle is the useless stock recovery on the kindle. Least thats my best guess.

I do have a factory cable (same as fastboot cable?) from SkOrPn, but will have to look through the forum for how to do a system reflash. I am glad to know that I have an option to save all of my data.
Unfortunately the red triangle is not limited to the kf2, but don't I wish it was.
Thank you.

If that doesn't work try kffa in the general 7" forum.

Since I am such a newbie, I have a couple of questions:
1) Can I assume that the "KFHD_SRT_v1.3.5- 7.3.0 (separate option for restoring factory recovery)" would be the option that I should use for my KFHD running system version 7.4.3? If I read thru this correctly, it will reset the system back to 7.3.0 and then auto update to 7.4.3 once connected to the internet. Is that correct?
2) If so, step 2 says to enter a command if your device recognizes ADB. Will this work on my device since the ADB option is turned off?
Thank you again for walking me through this process. [And by the way, you are not a moron. ]
Step 2 is misleading, you only need that command if you don't have a fastboot cable. I personally haven't had to use this tool, but from what I know it kinda downgrades the system but it should update on its own which also unroots it. And yes the download you were talking about it should be the right one.

After downloading the KFHD System Recovery Tool (that took a long while) and installing the driver for my KFHD, I am now running the SRT batch file. I am afraid that I am a bit confused here. The batch file gives you the following 7 choices:
1) Restore-Factory Rooted with SuperSU.apk
2) Restore-Factory Rooted with SuperSU.apk, Apex Launcher, and PlayStore
3) Restore-Factory Recovery
4) Erase cache & userdata
5) Check fastboot status
6) Reboot normally (must have a standard cable connected to work)
0) Exit
According to the instructions, I am to select #4 and Erase cache & userdata. Won't this erase my hidden system data (i.e., program data, email, etc.)?
Please advise before I take the next step.
I would use option 1 or 2, idk y it says to use 4.

Okay, my KFHD is in Fastboot mode (or at least that is what is displayed on it's screen).
However, my PC found new hardware - Tate-PVT-08 and needs the driver for it. Do you know where I can find this driver?
The SRT Tool is stuck in "trying to locate device" in the interim.
UGH, I am so close and yet so far away.
Just FYI, I had to go way back to remember CMD line instructions, but I also tried typing in the "fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img" command. This generated an error message of "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Oops, now I am the moron.

I have no idea, usually if someone gets stuck with this app I recommend using kindle fire first aid, it can do the same thing and probably has a better rep. I just prefer individual apps so I recommended this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888

Okay I have my KFHD temporarily back up again. It is more functional than it was, but not all applications are running yet.
I haven't tried the KF First Aid yet, but will. I have downloaded the zip file and extracted the files so that I will be ready. Not sure yet if I have to upgrade my Java (it is SE v7up25, but not the developer version).
However, before I proceed much further, I really want to back up my KFHD.
- My data has been "backed up" by making a copy via a USB cable and Windows Explorer to my flash drive.
- What is left to back up is the hidden section/partition of my KFHD. All the postings I have seen so far discuss backing up the system (OS) of the KFHD, but what about the area where applications store user profiles and/or data. For example, the email program stores all the email data in this hidden area. How can I get that backed up?
Once this is accomplished, I would feel much more comfortable in running the KFFA as well as the replacement of image files.
Any clues?
If u can find the email app's internal name you are using then goto "/data/com.emailappname" and copy that folder, usually that's where a program stores its data, not positive about that on the kindle is though, last time cleared my cache and dalvik cache on that os, I had to reset up my email account so I don't know for sure if that's correct exactly.

Okay after multiple manipulations, I have run the KFHD SRT using Option 1) Restore-Factory Rooted with SuperSU.apk (WooHoo!)
Can I assume that my KFHD is rooted? If so, what do I need to do to actually see these hidden files? (The email program is e-mail.apk or so I have been told.)
Of course with the standard USB cable, I still see the usual stuff with Win Explorer.
What is my next step?

[Q] App/Tweak to force reboot

Hi, I'm new to this whole android thing. I got a Kindle Fire HD 7" it's rooted with SuperSU and Google Play store on it successfully!
My main issue is it seems many tweaks like a reboot after installation, but my power button is completely missing. I can plug the device in to turn it on, and open/close the cover to put it to sleep.
Are there any tweaks around where I can like slide to power down, or force reboot how you would if you were to press the power button?
Alternately, I'd also like to remove the ad lock screens and potentially install a live wallpaper on either the lock screen or the home page. And maybe have an actual android grid set up. I know you need a secondary launcher to do this kind of thing, but all the ones I looked at screamed brick, and I got a bit worried. Could anyone point me at some basic tutorials? (I've jailbroken my Ipad rather extensively, but this seems to be a bit more in-depth to the actual operating system)
ETA: I haven't Used QMenu Just the ABD Drivers and the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33
If this is the 2012 model with a camera you can flash cm 11 on it and use maromi's kernel, it has double tap to wake, and cm also has double tap corner to sleep.
There are apps in the Google play store for rebooting methods that I believe allow for reboot normally as well as to fastboot and recovery, I know CM's built in power menu has those option if you enable them, but then there's the issue of getting to them with a broken power button.

It is the 2012, it has the camera with the clear slider to unlock.
I installed Nova Launcher off the G-play store, but yet again something needs to be rebooted! Hmph.
I'd love if you have any links to those store based power options, or to the CM 11 (is that a launcher also? what does "Flash" mean exactly? I've seen it around. ) The power button issue sucks, but I can't complain since it was a free gift!
I guess I can just run the battery down to reboot, but that is such a pain.

hehe wow this is a first, ok cm 11 is cyanogen mod 11. its a rom you can flash instead of amazon's original os, it is way faster and more up to date and is more like pure android. Flash basically means we are overwriting the system files and such that came with the device. It can have any launcher, set wallpaper, is already rooted and has alot of cool things like themes and performance options you can set, much better than stock amazon os. You seem quite new to the concept of flashing a rom though so i advise you to read the tutorial thouroughly and as long as you don't mess up you shouldnt need a fastboot adapter even though its always advised to have one anyways. Heres a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909
Let me give you some advice so you don't end up with a red screen brick. Make sure when you follow this that when you see the red text at the top of fireflash(you will understand this when you start this part) that you check that box off thats either to the side or above the red text, this is a vital step you must follow or you will need a fastboot adapter to fix. I also recommend grabbing the cm rom and its corresponding gapps ahead of time.
Feel free to ask questions.
Also if you install a launcher on amazon os you will need root and you must copy and paste the app into the system folder and set the permission to a certain way or it will bootloop. I think titanium backup has a convert to system app button that does it for you. Wallpaper doesnt defaultly work without my fix either.
Nevermind, it finally worked

Thank you so much for being patient with me!
I had been doing the app thing, but it seems like such a pain to do that with every app. I removed the installer, it wasn't doing much of what I was wanting anyways, the CM11 sounds much more like what I'm wanting to get to.
I'll give the tutorial a good read through and update this post with any questions I have!
Question 1: "commonly associated .... higher without first flashing the Amazon OS 7.2.3 bootloader" With flashing the cm11 do I need to (or do you recommend I) first restore or go back to the 7.2.3 or can I continue with 7.4.8? I will obviously be making backups as it seems that's the only way to recover with a standard usb cable.
Question 1A: If you are NOT on the 7.2.3 bootloader (you'll see red letters warning you), then hit the check box next to that to flash the 7.2.3 bootloader, otherwise you'll see a red screen after you reboot. If you don't see that warning, you're fine, move on. Is this the box you mentioned? It seems like this saves the hassle of going to 2.3 THEN flashing.
Question 2: "Alternatively, you can use this if the first method failed: Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry," I used this method in the first place. I had some issues with the ABD drivers not being recognized but got them working when I used amazon's direct ones. Furthermore, when I did get rooted (I used an app to check that it was and since nova worked I assume it was correct) superuser wasn't installed. I went and installed superSU manually. will this be an issue? (things have asked for and been granted permission and show as such in the superSU app)
Question 3: I'm using my work computer which runs through a server. when I go to back up through cmd it says the folder will be in C: and to then transfer it. The server shouldn't matter, right? I guess I can always just do a search for the file name and it'll turn up somewhere.
Question 4: Once you have the .zip files for the ROMs with GApps (Google apps, like Play Store), place them on the sdcard, and turn off the device. Turn it on, hold Volume-Up before the logo turns blue, and enter TWRP I did find an app called "reboot" which allows me to reboot (shocking!) without the power button. Can I still use that app at this point?
Question 4A: Once there, immediately do two things: make a backup, and after that, wipes: system, factory reset, cache, and Dalvik cache. After it finishes, go ahead and again, wipe cache and Dalvik cache, then reboot This section calles to wipe some sections, will this also wipe my apps? it calls later on to reboot again. If the first bit wipes the apps, then I wouldn't be able to reboot at this point. (aside of waiting for the battery to die)
Answer 1: you don't actually need to downgrade the os, as long as the bootloader gets downgraded it is fine. So yes that was the checkbox I meant, believe it or not people have missed seeing it before because of the red text around it.
Answer 2: I think it will be fine, though I'm surprised you could root it with Amazon's drivers, theirs were kinda crappy.
Answer 3: I think this is OK, not sure how your setup is exactly. I don't see network issues being a problem.
Answer 4: you can still use the app. As to the wiping, yes you will lose all your apps, it is required to do the equivalent of a factory reset in twrp when coming from amazon os as the system apps leave some data left behind that causes cm to malfunction. You can install anything you had again from the play store or manually if you had apk's lying around. You can backup app data for games and such with titanium backup and restore it once you reinstall titanium backup in cm.

Thank you so much again! I'm excited! I'll let ya know how it goes.
Sweet and I thought I'd mention if you get confused on what cm 11 build to download, the unofficial builds are a little bit more dated now that the device is a officially supported cm device, I recommend the link that isn't under mirrors that goes to cyanogenmod's Tate download page. The URL has those 3 words in it so you will know it when you see it. The m6 release is the stable release I recommend download instead of a nightly, I think m7 should be out soon, the cool thing is whenever a update is available it can ota like a phone, I believe it will make you choose to install the update though. I was impressed by how it updates, just seemed cool to watch. Not positive if cm's updater notifies you when updates are available though.

Firstly, when I go to back up through the command prompt I get this:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Users\admnasst>adb shell su -c "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0boot0 of=/sdcard/boot
0block.img"
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Am I missing some step? I do have ABD enabled on the kindle.
Secondly, on this site: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=tate
am I wanting the download second from the bottom that says "snapshot" and ends with m6-tate
I would figure so, but I wanted to double check.
Yes that the right file, as to that command not being recognized it is because it expects you to have a copy of that command handy and in the directory the command prompt is cd'd into. For instance download my wallpaper fix in my signature and extract it, then shift + right click the folder and hit open new command window here, then try the command again.
I have and by itself laying around on a thread I made here on the forum but this works just as well.

I ran the first line and it started. I'm going to do everything tomorrow when I have more time. I'll keep you updated! Thank you again for helping me, and being so welcoming.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot this was my favorite reboot app and it works well although I see your doing the custom ROM thing now.

ROM toolbox has a quick-reboot option that is similar to respringing iOS, and it well let you create a launcher shortcut on your home screen.
>>>Sent from my homebuilt TARDIS running Android 4.4... or maybe it's a Kindle Fire HD running Cyanogenmod 11<<<

what guide should I use

I have a kindle fire HD. About a year and half after we got it, it started to randomly reboot. Since the warranty was expired Amazon would not fix it without payment. The reboots started about once a month and increased to about daily. At that point we did a factory reset. This has continued to today.
At this point I want to completely remove the amazon firmware and replace with a full version of Android. I am hoping this fixes the random rebooting.
Before we can replace the firmware, we should root it in order to make the process easier. To root it, we need to determine which OS version you have. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification bar, and then tap "More". Select "Device", and then "About". You should see a string that begins with 8.x.x or 7.x.x. Please comment back on this post with that string, as it's critical in determining how to replace the stock Amazon OS.
System version 7.5.1
Start here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56678177&postcount=5) with the directions that @sd_shadow posted for rooting 7.5.1. Once you're done, verify your root access with an app such as this one (http://www.amazon.com/Free-Android-Tools-Root-Checker/dp/B00TSA0MWY).
Also, if you're running Windows on your PC, download and run the 15 second ADB installer (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979). Answer yes to the "install ADB and fastboot" and "install ADB system wide" questions, and no to the "Install device driver" question. Also install the kindle drivers linked in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890413). If you're on Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, follow these instructions (www.howtogeek.com/167723/how-to-dis...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/) to temporarily disable driver signature enforcement before you install the kindle drivers.
I am on Windows 7. I assume I should follow the windows 7 directions AFTER I verify root, correct?
Correct. Reboot after the kindle drivers are installed, and then follow @Hashcode's instructions here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848) to replace the firmware.
